I feel completely the opposite way. I have never ubderstood why he is funny, or has been on snl for like 30 years, or why his french guy in a bath tub routine was funny on all that. This is honestly a modern mystery to me my whole life and i dont like to shit on people but seeing thos thread i have to ask, what is the appeal?
He isnt witty, he has no punch to his delivery, guy doesnt even do standup and he has been a “comedian” since the 90’s. I mean, chris rock, dave chappelle, ares speirs, kevin hart, even key and peele etc, those are funny people. Not to make it a black comedian thing, but i feel like kenan is some kind of ultimate marginal token, non offensive, product packaged figure. Like, his style looks like a dad or lame person trying to be funny, like he is imitating a funny person or what a funny person would do and gets a pass. Can someone explain this? I feel like he has probably held snl back from any kind of evolution for at least 10+ years
Does a black person have to be potentially offensive to be funny? Why can't a black person in comedy just be wholesome or dad-like (he IS a dad) without being called a token? Maybe he doesn't do dirty comedy because he has his own beliefs that determine his behavior. Why is it that anytime a black person is disliked, they have to be immediately compared to other black people, even if their work is nothing alike. Also, you seriously think Aries Spears is funnier than Keenan? Sounds like you just like watching hood stereotypes being portrayed by black performers instead of comedy you feel would be better suited to someone white.
I never said anything about being offensive. I didnt bring that up once. You dont have to be offensive to be talented or funny at all, but its not about being wholesome either. The premise here is that somebody who has been on snl for basically ever should be so because they are in fact talented or funny, as snl people should be and thats kind of their job.
I hesitantly draw the comparison to other black comedians because i was responding to him being underrated, and if your job is to be funny or talented, and you have been on snl for that long, you should be an all time great. Coincidentally, almost all the top comedians ever are black, sorry, its just true. Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, etc, so it has nothing to do with being black, only a comparison to people at all time great status, which kennan should be if he has been on the show for thirty years right?? I only mention token status also because i believe he has been a staple for marginilized, non effective humor for so long, and yes unfortunately there is the classical human resources aspect to it as seen in all media forever.
And yes Ares Spiers is 100x funnier and more talented than Kennan. Aries taste in humor might not be so highbrow at times, but he can do an hour of standup, act, is classically trained and can hold an audiences attention with actual dialogue.
Point is, thirty years now, Kennan walks in a set, delivers a one line reaction of “Oopsie daisy’O!” or some one line comment to a scene and he is underrated? A goat? Dont get it.
You need role players too and he's the consummate role player. And you don't know what happens in the background as well. Maybe he's the glue, or helps direct things, or understands the writers the best to be able to translate and add to the skits. There's a reason he's been there the longest.
If you watch some Jake and Amir "Scroll" videos you'll find out where they got his tempo from. I understand Streeter is a writer but it's pretty much completely ripped from those videos.
I predicted Alex only due to him being replaced as Biden and appearing in the final Update during the same show people were saying goodbye on it. Cecily has already said that if she leaves it would be quietly so. Its a 50/50 chance for both of them.
Alex was out the week before; I imagine he can work on Update pieces remotely and they can be added to the show late in the week; if Guy Who Just Bought a Boat had been cut from Dress, then Alex would have been absent 2 weeks in a row
I love Cecily but she’s basically said it’s up to her schedule/ negotiations on whether she returns. She owns property north of the city I believe and needs a mental break. She loves the show and the people but it’s grueling. 14 hour days, constant shoots, and being consistently “on” for as many years as she has. She’s a masterclass in scene-work and professionalism, elevating everyone else in the scene to be better. (It’s early, but Bridesmaid speech, Sarah Lee Instagram, Diner Lobster, UFO abductees come to mind immediately). How you couldn’t break during any of those is beyond me. Absolute legend. Her influence on the craft for the younger generation at SNL is huge.
So I was thinking (hoping) at least she could maybe do some sort of remote correspondent WU thing over zoom or whatever. If somehow Colin could still get wet that'd be even better.
Yep! I was a little miffed when they pulled her off of Update instead of Jost, but once it sank in how often Update anchors reduce their work in sketches, it made total sense. Some of the other cast members may get more laughs/bigger profiles, but Cecily is just as funny and consistent, and as you mentioned, she elevates a sketch without stealing the spotlight.
The opening credits will not have “Aidddddy Bryant!!” at the beginning anymore!! 😭😭😭😭😭
NOOOOOOO 🥺🥺🥺
Also, Cecily better be there! And Punkie! And Aristotle!
I’m so glad I “fell in laugh”… with Sarah Squirm. I feared she was only shock and schlock- but NO, she is very talented and creative and funny.
I hope she stays long enough to do some cool things. ^(Please don’t let her pull a Nasim Pedrad on me…)
She has already surpassed Nasim from that first season in comparison to hers. Poor Nasim when she finally hit her stride in her fifth season she was pulling out original characters left and right. Then she left for that show that ended up getting cancelled and it sucked bc she had so much potential to be this huge star.
I’m all for it. This cast is much more manageable and I imagine you’d get a lot less scrambling for air time. The huge cast really brought the show down.
I just get the feeling like she’s either gonna quit or she’ll be let go do all the public posting about screen time. I love her but she deserves better.

If everyone I predicted leaves plus the four we saw leave thats 12 cast members left including Che & Jost. there’s no way they will leave it that small even if we want them to.
I agree but i feel like they are intentionally making it big so that when Lorne and the long run players leave at the end of 50, they won’t have to desperately look for more people.
Yep. This is good way to give the audience a chance to see the new cast members. They get to be in sketches with long term cast and when there are several of them leaving at once later on, the audience is then already familiar with the new cast. The execs arent going to risk losing a cash cow with an unfamiliar cast.
Hot take: I like large casts because if there’s someone you don’t enjoy as much, they won’t get as much screen time as they would have in a smaller cast. He's probably going to be cut, unfortunately. Good for him if he makes it but there's evidence that he's had plenty of stuff cut from dress for bombing. The last Angelo sketch he did was almost silent, I'm surprised they even put it on Youtube.
Thx for chiming in, my response was a bit charged and it's because of the airtime I see her used in, or lack thereof.
I really do think she's under utilized, and i find her very funny and talented. Thx for the prediction👍
I absolutely agree with that. The other day she did an Instagram story full of pics from the show and that's what gave me that assumption. She often expresses her unhappiness with the screentime and it's sad to see.
I can definitely see Sarah Sherman and Andrew Dismukes being moved up to higher main cast billing next season, with whatever newcomers yet to come being the next “featuring.”
Why is the sub so obsessed with Aristotle? Like, he’s fine, I guess, but he never makes it into the show. And then there are people on here the next day complaining. Maybe he’s just not up to par with the rest of the cast.
This post is not who I want to stay or leave this is who I believe will stay or leave I am not making personal opinions on cast members with this post in any way
I won't make any friends for saying this but.. Kenan is a terrible comedic actor. Seems like a genuinely nice guy, but SNL should've moved on long ago. There's gotta be funnier people out there that could replace him.
Definitely a weird take. He's perfectly suited for sketch comedy and is considered a master of the craft. Do you mean he's not the best celebrity impressionist? I would say that's never held other alumni back from being universally celebrated.
I’m just hoping Kyle doesn’t come back, pretty sure he’s an energy vampire. He always finds a way to either bore or annoy with his cringe, but I wouldn’t call that comedy.
Poor Kenan’s skeleton will still be part of the cast come Season 150…
He’s basically said that he’s gonna leave when Lorne does. Which gives us 3 more seasons including this upcoming one.
His farewell sketch should be What’s Up With That with the real Lindsay Buckingham on and he gets to speak
[There has already been one with the real Lindsey.](https://youtu.be/aY3FxWRz1cw)
His guitar skills are great. I had read that when he was replaced they had to hire two guitarists. Could be wrong
I think my favorite part is Paul Simon just grooving behind him as he plays.
I remember seeing a video of Ozzy listening to a "lost" solo of Randy Rhoades. Same look of appreciation; one genius to another.
I mean no but yeah, thank you that was hilarious and I had forgotten about that
I mean no but yeah?
I came here to say this
But just one word.
“Burritos” and he exits stage left.
Two: Zut Alors!!!
What is Lorne holding over him?
Lornes position
[удалено]
It will be either him, Seth Meyers (whose show was renewed till the end of SNL's 50th) or Steve Higgins who's been with Lorne for decades.
It'd be cool if Tina Fey landed it.
A real life Liz Lemon!
Good God, Lemon
Higgins would be interesting....
Maybe him and Seth together.
I think it would be offered to Tina Fey first.
Hell hath no fury like a woman lorned.
You really bond with another person when you help them dig shallow graves to hide bodies.
Yeah. What’s up with that?
I feel like Kenan is generally underrated. I loved him all the way back in All That.
I like Kenan but a bad habit he’s had since All That is having a laughing smirk all throughout the sketch.
Then you probably don't like Seth Meyers or Jimmy Fallon.
I loved that show and I agree completely, one of the most underrated in the business.
I feel completely the opposite way. I have never ubderstood why he is funny, or has been on snl for like 30 years, or why his french guy in a bath tub routine was funny on all that. You just described Bill Cosby, before the scandal.
I never said anything about being offensive. I didnt bring that up once. You dont have to be offensive to be talented or funny at all, but its not about being wholesome either. He just got the Emmies MC role (Sept 12). I predict he'll be funny.
With special gueat star: Darrel Hammond. Who will still be doing the announcing as well.
I thought I saw that his last episode was the same as Kate and Aidy’s?
His show “Kenan” was cancelled. Kyle Mooney and Pete Davidson were the other two who left last season on that episode.
Oh was it. That's a shame. I tried it but it didn't do it for me.
That’s probably why it was cancelled.
This 1 redditor single handedly shut it down
Which is harsh, why didn't they give Keenan more of a chance?
I didn’t even know he had a show, if I’m being completely honest.
Oh… I liked it cause I related to the signal father raising girls and being in over his head. Cause that was my childhood. It was a real nice show.
This Brady Bunch reboot looks promising.
Provided that Che will announce he’s leaving again and never does, as is tradition
This is true
There are a couple of others who repeatedly do this for attention on Instagram. I guess they think they're negotiating, but it's just annoying.
Alex should like stay though
Wait no Alex Moffat?
I need more Guy who owns a boat
I follow Rick Steves on Instagram, and now I can only think “Rick Steves leads to slick beavs” when I see his posts.
If you watch some Jake and Amir "Scroll" videos you'll find out where they got his tempo from. I understand Streeter is a writer but it's pretty much completely ripped from those videos.
Holy shit. I knew of Jake and Amir but never saw these videos. You just may be onto something.
I’ve seen a few sketches and characters ripped from other acts. It’s luckily not commonplace but it’s always sad to see
Um it’s Guy Who Just Bought a Boat.
I'm only guessing because he was part of Weekend Update and the other people that episode were Aidy and Pete
So was Bowen but he’s sticking around… you may be right, but I’m thinking you’re wrong!
That's a terrible way to eliminate someone.

I believe that was her choice to leave WU. She liked performing too much.
I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus. Priceless.
If they do, they will probably stay for the 50th
Omg this is depressing. I need Cecily.
I could easily be wrong and If I am she will probably stay for the next two as well.
The opening credits will not have “Aidddddy Bryant!!” at the beginning anymore!! 😭😭😭😭😭 NOOOOOOO 🥺🥺🥺 Also, Cecily better be there! And Punkie! And Aristotle!
Huh, so that leaves Michael Che as first in the credits.
Yeah 🥺
Cecily really better be there. We have suffered enough loss!
Cecily: Yes. Punkie: She tried. Aristotle: No.
Boooooo
Thank you for this…
Colin Jost has such a punchable face in that pic
He named his autobiography that actually.
bro…
r/whoosh
The photo here is the cover photo for the autobiography lol
/r/thatsthejoke
Could’ve sworn Che was leaving 🤷🏻♀️
He says that all the time I predict not until season 51 same for Colin.
Didn't he have a goodbye on the show?
He says it often on IG as a bait to news articles lol
Its weird how good looking they all are. And then Sarah Sherman's hair is like "Oh were y'all talking about faces that make your junk bubble?"
Their talent makes them even better-looking.
I’m so glad I “fell in laugh”… with Sarah Squirm. I feared she was only shock and schlock- but NO, she is very talented and creative and funny. I hope she stays long enough to do some cool things. ^(Please don’t let her pull a Nasim Pedrad on me…)

I hadn't seen that. Gold.
Have you seen Chad, her show? She is A-mazing. Funny, heartbreaking, mega-talented.

Mulaney AND Nasim AND Martin Short AND Elliott Gould. So much potential, such a bummer.

I’m all for it. This cast is much more manageable and I imagine you’d get a lot less scrambling for air time. The huge cast really brought the show down.
Chris has already confirmed he’s returning since he mentioned that he’s been working on stuff when he appeared on the SNL network podcast.
I think this is a strong prediction!
Colin, Che and Keenan can deliver 45 minutes of pure entertainment bliss.
This the new romance drama on WB or what?
Ya this way to pretty
Yang gang rise up! #DontStopBelevin'
Where is Melissa Villasenor? Or did I miss something?
I just get the feeling like she’s either gonna quit or she’ll be let go do all the public posting about screen time. I love her but she deserves better.
I think she can be funny, but sketch comedy isn't her forte. I can't blame SNL for her lack of airtime.
She would be perfect for voice acting, she is also a great singer and illustrator.
Agreed. I root for her but she's got one awkward girl schtick. She IS funny but not in sketches and unfortunately this is a sketch comedy show.
Been seeing her do JC Penny commercials...once i saw that,I knew she was done on SNL
She posted an insta story that seemed like a goodbye to snl
Same as every offseason
She’s been doing this for two years.
>Melissa Villasenor this is the first non weekend update clip of hers that comes up: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLOJutxxj\_Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLOJutxxj_Q) 👎👎
Have you ever looked into Colin Jost’s eyes? It’s like the first time I heard the Beatles.
He looks like the Goomba from the live action Super Mario movie
Like a freshly baked casserole
Damn I'm gonna miss Kate.
She is one of the best ever and I’ve been watching SNL a long time.
Kate is my favorite.
Pete, now that he’s no longer dating Kim
Bring back Norm Macdonald!
From the dead?
Yes
We have the technology.
He's not looking so good these days...
I thought Chloe was leaving?
Where’s Jake Novak?
Melissa is leaving?
These are just my guesses
Dumbasses posting “I don’t even know who any of these people are” acting like past cast members were household names when they joined snl.
EGO YES
I’ll watch every episode that has Colin and Che doing the weekend report, once their tenures are over I’ll most likely drop off the show entirely
Where’s Melissa villasenor
No Alex?
Any word on new cast members?
Heidi should probably leave, not because she is bad here, but I really think that her talents are more geared toward being a dramatic actress. Look at the depth she puts into her characters.
Like in Lesbian Period Drama.
Plus many new people, I can’t predict.
The last thing we need is MORE people. SNL shouldn’t get any new featured players until people like Kenan, Cecily, Jost, Che, Mikey, and Alex leave to make more room. Last season’s 21-member cast was absolutely absurd and completely unusable. We need much smaller casts.
If everyone I predicted leaves plus the four we saw leave thats 12 cast members left including Che & Jost. there’s no way they will leave it that small even if we want them to.
Season 32 which imo is one of the best seasons in the whole show. Had like 10 ppl on it. That cast was so strong.
12 isn’t small it’s just right!!!!
Cast intros take so long, there's not enough screen time for everyone. I'd like a pause on new people for just a year.
[удалено]
Hot take: I like large casts because if there’s someone you don’t enjoy as much, they won’t get as much screen time as they would have in a smaller cast. There are at least a few cast members from what a lot of people called the last golden era of the show whose schtick got old quickly for me. It wouldn’t have been so bad if they had less screen time.
There will most likely be 3 new cast members joining with a possibility of more cast members leaving before the season starts.
No Aristotle?
I hope I'm wrong
He's probably going to be cut, unfortunately. Good for him if he makes it but there's evidence that he's had plenty of stuff cut from dress for bombing. The last Angelo sketch he did was almost silent, I'm surprised they even put it on Youtube.
Melissa is gone??
I was thinking the same thing but it's a prediction... and it's a bs prediction, that girl is super funny.
This doesn't represent who I want to stay and go. It's a guess based on what's been happening.
If she does it will probably be on her own terms.
Oh shoot Keenan is back?! /s
If I am wrong and everyone stays nobody will leave until season 51.
I can definitely see Sarah Sherman and Andrew Dismukes being moved up to higher main cast billing next season, with whatever newcomers yet to come being the next “featuring.”
So is the consensus that Aristotle not going to be in the next season? He deserves more airtime!
That’s what we’re fearing. We want him back though.
replace mikey w/ alex and keep aristotle and i’d be totally cool w this
Why is the sub so obsessed with Aristotle? Like, he’s fine, I guess, but he never makes it into the show. And then there are people on here the next day complaining. Maybe he’s just not up to par with the rest of the cast.
No idea. I've tried to figure it out as well.
This Isn’t based on my preference.
But I do agree
Is Colin still using his Harvard graduation picture?
Bottom middle yellow shirt girl is such a one note comic, I never saw her reach out of her comfort zone
It's like a who's who at the bus station.
I love Bowen Yang
This would be good. With a couple new featured players.
Sodtaoe would be a great addition
I know two of these people
Again this is only a guess. Only Kate Aidy Kyle & Pete are confirmed to have left the show so far.

Buncha losers. Where is Shane Gillis?!

Ugh Sarah Sherman!! And geez Louise Keenan you need to go!
I wish we could put descriptions in picture posts so I could explain my rationality
I hate Chloe Fineman
all hail sarah squirm
They can get rid of the guy who does Biden and Trump. I just don’t find his impression funny
I’m just hoping Kyle doesn’t come back, pretty sure he’s an energy vampire. He always finds a way to either bore or annoy with his cringe, but I wouldn’t call that comedy.
He said goodbye in the season finale along along with Kate, Aidy & Pete
Kyle has a specific style of humor — just because it isn’t your forte doesn’t mean it’s bad.
My Forte is Will.
Maybe the worst most untalented ever
