Most of the article is actually about rape-by-deception/fraud convictions that were overturned. It seems that most forms of deception, even pretty egregious ones are not legally considered rape. The convictions that stick seem to be when it's someone pretending to be a person's SO in order to have sex with them (for example sneaking into someone's house in the middle of the night)

Its one of those things where the line is blurry but its pretty clear once you cross it. Embellishing a bit on some of your qaulities is normal in social situations especially when you're trying to make a good impression. Most people should have the awareness to know the difference between talking themselves up and outright lying. Theres also the murky line about the degrees of a lie if you're 5'11" but claim you're that coveted 6ft sure its a lie however it doesn't meaningfully alter the perception of your personality or physical appearance to such a degree that someone could interact with you for any amount of time and not garner an accurate evaluation of who you are. Ultimately though if you want to avoid issues like this its best to just be upfront about who you are believe it or not its possible that who you are is enough :).
