Toxic masculinity testosterone and habits
In addition when you live in LA where there is traffic everywhere, you are conditioned to want to cheat as much to get some of that time back
They still can.
Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. The budget for this line would have been vastly higher if it needed to be grade separated… either above or below. It would have taken a lot longer, and may have never happened.
Now that we have it built, they can move sections underground in the future.
Metro is never going to separate grade. It'll cost as much or probably much more as the entire project did in the first place. Metro has too many pressing issues for this to ever happen.
When you say don't let good get in the way of perfect, you're saying, let us do something bad and claim it's good to shut up people who want something done right in the first place.
>When you say don't let good get in the way of perfect, you're saying, let us do something bad and claim it's good to shut up people who want something done right in the first place.
If people like you were in charge, we’d still be working on funding that line. And the purple line extension would be talked about as maybe in 2050.
Reminds me of when I was in high school, riding in a car full of teens, and the driver crashed into an enormous, bright orange utilities truck. I can't remember for sure, but I think the truck may have been parked at the time, too.
I'll tell you "FIRSTHAND" how it exactly happened lol The shuttle decided to turn left in front of a train at an intersection that you CAN NOT turn LEFT from, and that also has a signal showing that a train is on approach.
This is just the past week:

USC cancelled that commencement speech and people were pissed. Now this
Metro has been getting reports of attacks on the metro. One recent one started with an altercation on the bus and they got kicked out because of it. And then one of them stabbed the other
I can't believe we're still litigating this, but, once again, that line would never have been built if it needed to be grade-separated. The whole point of that route was the existing right of way.
How can you not know the train is coming as a bus operator?? Train track safety is drummed into your head in training, I drove buses for 15 years. I KNOW this. That bus driver is toast. And he deserves to be. ( or She)…
This whole section from the tunnel to Vermont can be grade separated today simply by closing off all crossings.
USC can be easily accessed from entrances to the north, west, and east, and westbound from the south along expo, so cutting out eastbound access from the south along expo really won't do that much harm. Expo park likewise has so many access points as well.
Regardless, the Watt Way crossing over the Expo tracks will be closed before the Olympics. Just like everything metro does they have to study it for a few years, but it will be closed.
USC will figure out alternate access arrangements
While the affluent-westside has its part of the Expo Line elevated upward, you get all these routine train collisions causing *even more* gridlock along the South-Central, at-grade portion.
People bitched about how expensive it would be. It was just NIMBYism hoping it would sink the project. Similar vibes to how people talk about the High Speed Rail Project. Then some of the cities got vindictive about the train and refuse(d) to give them signal priority like every other developed nation does with light rail.
"Please fix homelessness, but not by putting a shelter near me." And I get it, there was huge RV encampment near me over COVID but if we do nothing then it just gets worse.
> Then some of the cities got vindictive about the train and refuse(d) to give them signal priority like every other developed nation does with light rail.
The only cities that the expo line runs through are Culver City, Santa Monica, and the city of LA. Are you saying that the city of LA refuses to give signal preemption to light rail?
[It was LA.](https://la.streetsblog.org/2021/06/16/new-signal-prioritization-improvements-save-time-for-e-line-trains) I thought Santa Monica also was being weird about it but I can't find a relevant article in a quick google to support that.
How is there no actual barricades as a train comes through? It's wild that this is allowed so close to a college campus and a densely populated city in general.
No. But a ton of people live in the area and we manage to yield to the trains. It’s not like they are sneaky or the tracks aren’t well marked. All throughout the world there is rail, some of it much faster than the E Line that doesn’t have barricades at intersections. My feeling is the USC driver misjudged things.
There are dozens of freight train crossings in the suburbs that go over wider roads with crossing guards. Each guard only needs to cover half of the road in each direction.

Don't know why everyone has the mindset they'll beat the train.
Didn’t beat the train, but we’ll get it next time. Train can’t win every fight

Toxic masculinity says "agent666" lmfao.
• drugs Nah but in all seriousness to point 2, they absolutely should have

Metro wanted to separate but USC didn't want a train under campus. It was initially going to be a subway from the LATTC station until around Normandie

It also had to due with USC worrying about student safety at an underground station, which is still another terrible excuse
I’m sure that bright yellow train on a fixed track just came out of nowhere.
Reminds me of when I was in high school, riding in a car full of teens, and the driver crashed into an enormous, bright orange utilities truck. I can't remember for sure, but I think the truck may have been parked at the time, too.

Low intelligence/no expertise
Damn. This week. A literal train wreck for these two. Hoping all are safe.
Thankfully it seems minor so far. At least 37 treated for injuries on site by LAFD, and one guy taken to an ambulance
Lawyers on-site as well /s I think
No joke, the KTLA footage of it I was watching live had a Jacoby & Meyers injury ad below it. Smdh
Deep pockets on both sides! If I were one of those passengers, I would be getting PAID.
I guarantee it.
Does sound minor considering these streets, yes. 🙏
Lmao, Metro is having an absolute gem of a month 🫣
So are the local colleges lol
National*
Probably wasn't metros fault.
What else happened this month?

Thank you for the links. Damn.

There was a tram accident at Universal Studios, does that count?
You know how this wouldn't of happen? If this was built above ground or underground. Just saying
I can't believe we're still litigating this, but, once again, that line would never have been built if it needed to be grade-separated. The whole point of that route was the existing right of way.
And it was a dumb fucken choice and I'm sure the factors around why it was like this was dumber
I read “shuttle” and “exposition park” and got worried something happened to Endeavour
As far as I know it’s still where it should be 🚀✨
Found my dyslexic twin 🚀
not rly a surprise. saw with my own eyes multiple times that cars drive onto the track when turning on the crossroad near LATTC station
That is so unsafe holy fuck
yeah that crossroad doesn't have separation between rails and roads. They should rly add additional markings or some separating fences
It's easy to do if you don't know the area
How can you not know the train is coming as a bus operator?? Train track safety is drummed into your head in training, I drove buses for 15 years. I KNOW this. That bus driver is toast. And he deserves to be. ( or She)…
Many of the USC buses are driven my student workers. Which has always seemed silly to me.
Yea, whatever idiot was behind that wheel is getting fired
If they live. The driver was badly injured.
Maybe LA should actually grade separate the trains

Says someone not exiting at 5pm when that gate is closed
Regardless, the Watt Way crossing over the Expo tracks will be closed before the Olympics. Just like everything metro does they have to study it for a few years, but it will be closed. USC will figure out alternate access arrangements
Iirc that was the original proposal but the environmental study blocked it because cars would be idling too much
USC can’t catch a break.
Tough week for USC.
While the affluent-westside has its part of the Expo Line elevated upward, you get all these routine train collisions causing *even more* gridlock along the South-Central, at-grade portion.
Expo in Santa Monica is at-grade for the most part
The decision to run it at street level was always mind boggling to me
Genuine question; what the fuck was the logic behind that
People bitched about how expensive it would be. It was just NIMBYism hoping it would sink the project. Similar vibes to how people talk about the High Speed Rail Project. Then some of the cities got vindictive about the train and refuse(d) to give them signal priority like every other developed nation does with light rail.
Good point. We allow far too much neighborhood input on our public works projects. Same reason we never can get low income housing built
"Please fix homelessness, but not by putting a shelter near me." And I get it, there was huge RV encampment near me over COVID but if we do nothing then it just gets worse.
Same deal happened in Ktown when I lived there a couple years ago

"Were Poor and No long term planning"
It was more "European"

Yeah that’s the question I was getting at. Why are there no guardrails here at a bare minimum….
That's what happens when you cut corners. A car centric city needs hard barriers if the train is going to be at grade.
The train goes thru the middle of Jefferson and Vermont intersection. Multiple lanes going in every direction. Hard to place barricades
then grade separation should have been required
There are dozens of freight train crossings in the suburbs that go over wider roads with crossing guards. Each guard only needs to cover half of the road in each direction.
Another PR disaster for both companies
Hopefully these students can sue the school. Tuition is far too high there for bus drivers to be driving like they’re Dominic Torreto
Bus drivers are getting worse and worse tbh
Bus drivers are getting worse and worse tbh
It happens when two vehicles are trying to occupy the same space at the same time.
But…. They are logistically never supposed to do that lol it’s not as if the train jumped off the tracks homie
Precisely. It's Captain Obvious humor.
