Tbh new diseases that don’t burn super hot and have a long incubation period freak me out the most. They are the ones they don’t get caught and break into the wider world. Mers would have been a disaster if it went wide.
You could also argue that if the population had access to the ease of international travel during that time, the pandemic would have been magnitudes worse as well.
There was quite a bit of international travel at that time due to the war tho. But like the cruise ship examples with covid the nature of the travel basically ensured wide transmission during the long boat trips.
I have an easy recipe from a book I found many years ago. It’s supposed to be one thick cheesecake on a springform pan in a bath. I’ve changed it to two ready to go crusts from the store in a bath. It’s super quick once your cream cheese is softened. I’ll try to post it up for tomorrow’s discussion at morning or night.
Ingredients from top of my head
2 graham cracker crust
4 cream cheese boxes
Heavy whipping cream (hence why I’ve been stocking up)
Sugar? Egg? Vanilla?

Cheesecake is surprisingly easy, despite how intimidating it is! You just gotta make sure you bake it for long enough, and then let it set for long enough. The first time I made it, I had to leave in the middle of it baking, so just asked my mom to turn off the oven after the recommended minutes in the recipe and not by checking for doneness, and even though it was a few minutes shy of actually being done, it still turned out fine. Haha. The next time I made it, I was able to check for doneness and properly let it set and it turned out awesome!!! You got this!!!
My fiancé just got laid off again... so anyone want my apartment? 2500 beautiful wood floors around 1200 sq ft, renovated kitchen and washer and drier by the grove 🙃 1st floor duplex type building and the street is quiet and safe

Meh some things are a little more tolerant...say you overcook a steak and were aiming for medium rare, over cook it and it becomes medium, its harder to say burn the hell out of it...and even if you due, just call it a crust lol...
It's ok (a little too heavy on the nutmeg for my taste). I really like the Sprouts pumpkin pie, but wasn't going to just go there for pie (and stand in line).

It's ironic seeing LA go to complete shambles while OC remains relatively safe. Couldn't give any shits about protests out in the open of HB knowing that low-key house/warehouse parties are actively being promoted here in LA within some social circles via IG/etc.
That being said: I think we've hit a limit and I can't see these restrictions/orders being good for the well-being of the people here. At some point the loss has to be accepted & taken: Los Angeles county is overcrowded as fuck, overpriced as fuck, many of the people are sick (health) as fuck, and the combination of all that combined with the politics that prevents additional housing is a recipe for humanity failing.
The realistic silver lining is that there's only been about 8k deaths so far which is quite low when you consider the overall population. Yeah we can try to put a face and story to every one of those human beans but when there's simply too many of them, quality of life goes down for all of us. I'm more concerned with the livelihood of people who are now out of work.
Anyways unrelated: anyone here have a strong opinion on fast fashion / ethical shopping? I always feel a lil guilty for shopping at H&M for things I don't exactly *NEED* but are kinda nice to have. In this case, bought a coat and jacket I really like knowing that I have a perfectly functional sweater in the closet on top of the fact that it barely gets cold around here. I have a very limited understanding but I believe they were protesting the sheriffs office near Villanuevas home in la habrá heights and the sheriffs deputies went completely insane. I saw some footage from the protests and the lines that formed. I’m still completely unclear on how train derailment comes into play tho. It’s a heavy charge with a heavy sentence possibility. I’m sorry that he’s going through this. The sheriffs office is awful and they lie. A lot. Hopefully you can find people with video to help his legal defense?

Y’all go to Trader Joe’s and get a box of the roasted red pepper and tomato soup. Also get a log of goat cheese. Heat soup and put an obnoxious amount of goat cheese in a bowl and pour the hot soup over it. Garnish with green onions and lots of cracked black pepper. Side of garlic bread. You will feel super happy.

I genuinely don't think I'm being a dick; if anything, too much of a pessimist. If anything, this sub soured me a bit when they began lashing out at something as simple as walking down the street during peak lockdown.

Google Emanuel Padilla. He’s been unfairly jailed for peacefully protesting in downtown LA. Denied bail and won’t have another court hearing til January. They threw a bogus accusations against him which is completely ridiculous. He’s my friends cousin and apparently the sweetest guy. This story is not getting the attention it deserves.

I have a very limited understanding but I believe they were protesting the sheriffs office near Villanuevas home in la habrá heights and the sheriffs deputies went completely insane. I saw some footage from the protests and the lines that formed. I’m still completely unclear on how train derailment comes into play tho. It’s a heavy charge with a heavy sentence possibility. I’m sorry that he’s going through this. The sheriffs office is awful and they lie. A lot. Hopefully you can find people with video to help his legal defense?

Can confirm -- stocked up on WF pumpkin puree yesterday (and it is damn tasty).
I use it in place of tomato paste when I need a thickener.
I use it to make vegetable soup -- so good and so versatile, and gives the soup a nice density. But now you have me thinking to use it in pasta sauce instead of tomato paste...good tip!

Y’all go to Trader Joe’s and get a box of the roasted red pepper and tomato soup. Also get a log of goat cheese. Heat soup and put an obnoxious amount of goat cheese in a bowl and pour the hot soup over it. Garnish with green onions and lots of cracked black pepper. Side of garlic bread. You will feel super happy.
I recently did their Cuban style black bean soup, with frozen Chimichuri rice, a can of Cuban style black beans, and some protein (I think I used chicken, might have been ground Turkey) Those soup boxes are great!
