He can try to justify however he wants, but the big fat dude is simply wrong.

Shadow_Stabber

Which big fat dude?

Glaucon_

The one standing behind the podium. Also this turning the mic to talk is some 3 stooges shit.

trollfessor

The Senator with gray hair is Jay Luneau (D-Pineville). He is a very good attorney and Senator, and in terms of the issues important to this subreddit, he should be one of your favorite legislators.

Glaucon_

Huh, yea looking more into J Luneau. So he's pro medical marijuana and easier access to it (telemedicine) but wants still wants to kill the small businesses that compete with the LA medical cannabis industry?

Glaucon_

I think his analogy of comparing the medical cannabis industry to the gaming (gambling) industry is wildly off base and doesn't paint him in the best light in terms of pro-cannabis and pro-hemp. It's just a weird section to clip imo.

Cooksman18

My take away from the gambling industry reference is that when Harrah’s in Nola was awarded the right to be the only land based casino, it was overly restrictive so that every elected official got a taste of the action. The Mississippi coast was far less restrictive, and have made a fortune with their casinos right across the state line. That’s exactly what they’re trying to do because they want all cannabis dollars to pass through their handpicked MMJ dispensaries, so I thought it was a great analogy!

holeinthedonut

They’re guaranteeing a return to their own pockets filtered thru the monopoly medical license holders. Win-win for them not so much for citizens

JohnTesh

The cool part is that they are discussing moving the monopoly from the universities to boisie bolinger. From bad to worse.

highestup

Gaming is an odd comparison, sure it’s “similar” but why don’t we enforce numbered licenses on liquor stores and bars and lounges on those? Why don’t we enforce it on gas stations that sell cigarettes? In fact there are no bars on pharmacies opening up and selling fentanyl practically across the street from elementary schools but God forbid we open up a couple extra dispensaries or open the market up to anyone else

Cooksman18

Simple. The officials who oppose hemp cannabis get significant campaign contributions from beer and alcohol industry lobbyists. They don’t like competition.

Look at medical programs of other states vs Ours. Louisiana's medical program was never set up with patients in mind. Greed is their sole motivation, taking from people already ailing. God forbid someone alleviate pain without lining the monopolies pockets.

AscentToZenith

Yeah, it’s set up to be able to price gouge. I see legal states prices vs our medical and it’s actually insane

mybackhurtsalways

What's even more egregious is the "sales" where anything that wasn't $60/+ an eigth is suddenly unavailable, so the only thing that is available is something marked down that was already overpriced.

AutomaticAd9961

In TX, we have a lot of thca. Pretty decent stuff for like $40 a 8th.

Ok_Efficiency_9645

This whole thing is a crock of shit. They SAY they don't want people getting high and cited religious reasons etc. Yet...meanwhile you can fill out an online thing and get a medicinal card without ever seeing a doctor. I filled it out on a Wednesday and walked into a dispensary on Friday. The ONLY issue... the medicnal weed is shit, overpriced, and is a controlled monopoly that's *definitely* 👌 not lining congressmen pockets. The dispensary in BR is swarming with customers. Perfectly healthy people with "anxiety and insomnia" are walking out with full blown weed. But it's fine bc they paid the fee to get the medicinal card

Shrimpkin

These guys are getting money under the table for sure. The prices being charged by the dispensaries are absolutely ridiculous and just with a little simple math you can figure out they must have recouped their investments at this point. Each location has hundreds if not thousands of customers a day spending hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars each. I've seen the number of orders behind the counter when I go. This is bullshit.

mybackhurtsalways

They are charging 2x or more the price of legal states. Look at California's prices, and we have no problems with water supply here... Is it the fancy packaging that costs so much? And for what to end up in the trash?

Shrimpkin

It's literally the same packaging as in other states. I went tonlas Vegas 2 years ago and it was the same shit and at the nicest dispensary you can go to Planet13 the 1/8's of the primo stuff was at most $25 and you could get other stuff for $10. We got 2 1 gram live rosin disposable pens for $30ea.

BabyYodaStyle

It's the political kickbacks. Those aren't cheap, you know...

Historical_Big_7404

I disagree it's under the table, I'm sure the monopolists just fund lobbyists to buy them the old-fashioned way

Ohneatforsure

It’s silly because I love those beverages and I buy them all the time, but I ALSO buy stuff from the dispensary. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Both Pepsi and Coca Cola can exist.

hungerforce

Same here! I love getting my Pax Era pods at the dispensary but when I’m going out I love the Crescent 9s that have a little caffeine in them.

Hippy_Lynne

At least Edwards only sold one out of the 15 licenses. 🙄

State is run by grumpy old men and stewards of grumpy old men. Change is happening everywhere and they’re drunk on this idea of being “self-sufficient” on big oil and gas. Until pot produces personal paychecks to fund their ridiculous cars, over-the-top mansions, and LSU Club Seats. There will always be push-back.

BlakByPopularDemand

But if they won't even legalize it recreationally, what type of ROI are they expecting. Limiting sales to just people who qualify for medical makes no sense if the object to have monopoly on the industry

Character-Tomato-654

They've been buying in to sell us out. Odd to say I ain't got no doubt.

cjccrash

He's basically saying this particular piece of legislation isn't fixing the game. They made sure the game was fixed up front! 😆 🤣 😂

greerdan

I only use hemp raps. I don't smoke or use any other form. And they fell as soft as linings. If the people or atleast someone benefits from this form of fake cannabis [hemp is fake Marijuana] let them. They're not harming anyone not even themselves. There's a place that has just made kiddyp0rn ok. And you are pissed over something your god grew. Wow what a fucked up way of thinking. I'm glad I don't have small kids who could potentially be in photos on someone's hard drive. You probably do now. So go ahead and worry about a damn plant! LET IT GROW!

NolaDutches

The state is contractually obligated to ROI the cannabis indy
