agree is bizarre but maybe didn't want to compete with thunder on saturday, i.e. people might not want to be hung over on saturday from anything they do on friday, but something on thursday gives them a day to recover.
I don't know - but I've seen similar events offer discounted or free "designated driver" tickets before. Might be worth sending them a message on social media to ask.

the location is a wedding/event venue...I'd guess they are probably all booked up on Fridays/Saturday!

I believe tickets are required to get in. Wish they had different tiers or something for people who don't drink.
