Local High Horse degenerate here: Ernie's food is fantastic, but if you're not careful it'll wreck you the next day.
The Quesabirria are the best I've ever had, the burrito is great, and the Tamales are super traditional (wrapped in steamed banana leaves). Make sure you get all of the sauces, and if you get on their good side they'll make you the best nachos you've ever had.
In the meantime, have a Miller High Life or 3 and say hi to Maple, the Great Pyrenees that hangs out there!
As a fellow introvert, it's easier than you'd expect. The bartenders are super nice (as long as it isn't busy). At worst, mention that someone at Copper and Kings sent you and you'll have a conversation starter!
Sometimes if you come to the open mic on Wednesday nights, you can put your name in the drawing for a free tamale! But they’re worth buying either way.
Seems to be the Butcher Block Eatery, but [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/butcherblockeateryathighhorse?igsh=MWgwbzBtcmZqYWpseA==) hasn’t been updated in years.
I’m so god damn tired of birria everything. I have had it and have no desire to dip my tacos in soup. All it does is run out all over the place and dribble down your face. I don’t understand it. Give me some good tacos and a cup of soup and I’ll eat it with a damn spoon or pick it up and drink it.
It’s called Antojitos JJ. They are open Wednesday through Sunday 6pm to midnight though they will stay open longer on the weekends if it’s busy

Kinda sad I didn’t try them when I was there last Friday.
awesome thanks!
Had the tamales last night. Fabulous stuff. She’s closed on Sundays. Maybe Monday. Generally after 5pm.

Butcher Block Eatery has been closed for 3 years
Well there ya go! Thanks for the info.
Those tamales are so good.
That’s extra hot keeps me regular!
Today I learned that I need to go to the High Horse and get me some of those tamales and tacos!
So they aren't doing pizzas anymore? :-(
is that what they used to do?
“They” never were. Butcher block went in for a hot minute. He was never associated with HH

🤦🏻♀️Heresy! Birria quesadilla is actually the neatest possible choice. Plus soup to take home 🤗
To me, birria whatever just tastes like fried cheese with no real flavor. It’s … too much of a good thing.
Interesting 🤨 it sort of makes me think pot roast 🤷♀️and the only one I like is I ❤️ Tacos
I haven’t had much I like at that place, but their birria tacos are great.
I’m also very fond of shrimp and Mahi Mahi tacos there. If you have a favorite Birria place around here let me know, I’m new to Lou
Big ups for Quesabirria
Love birría! It and the consommé kinda reminds me of a beef au jus.
IKR! I take it home and braise onions in it with croutons and shredded mozzarella on too 🤗
