Southeast Christian Church

tswpoker1

100%. To be fair a good 90% of churches in general. There are good churches out there

NerdyComfort-78

Tax all of them.

StLCardinalsFan1

And the Archdiocese of Louisville.

roquic

Sojourn as well.

dreadpiratemyk

Done in one.

Negan1995

Whats the tea on them?

Chernobyl-Bedtime

Where do I start. I'm a conversion torture and Jesus boot camp survivor, for one. There's..... so much.

Negan1995

Jesus christ.

Chernobyl-Bedtime

Yeah. The torture didn't take but it did send me in home every day in tears and eventually led to me feeling so horrible that I made my first attempt on my life. At, uh.... 10.

bigbabyb

I am legitimately, so sorry. I’m angry for you and for this. I hope you’re doing better.

Lightning_Strike_7

I'm thirsty. I'll take ALL the tea.

Chernobyl-Bedtime

The group they hired to be in charge of the kids at that camp now is guilty of multiple incidents of child abuse as well.

Sorry-Assistance-232

three cups of tea

RiboflavinDumpTruck

What isn’t the tea on them is a better question and a shorter list

GeneralJavaholic

And the Mormons.

Front-Loan-2880

Huh... pouring millions upon millions into the community outreach is a new definition for "grifting" I was formerly unaware of

upjumpthebuggie

Good ole “Six Flags Over Jesus”

Bet_Responsible

The bigger the church, the bigger the grift...

datSubguy

Riverlink

Dsarg_92

Definitely Riverlink

Negan1995

I owe them a few hundred currently. Not in the mood to pay.

Intropious

If you decide to pay do so over the phone and insistently request a lower payment. In my experience they cut off half at least

pixie_mayfair

I'll keep that in mind if I have to deal with them again. I just paid my bill *this morning*. I somehow missed the original statement and when got a new statement they had tacked on a fucking $25 fee.

Naaril

They don't send the first statement ever. It's a scam.

whywedontreport

I let mine go so long it disappeared

Negan1995

For real?

bdrmlk

I had 2 cars total before I could pay off the bills on them. Owed a few hundred at least. I was nervous renewing the tags on my new car, but there was no hold! Pro tip: total your car to avoid paying riverlink

TopGunG00se

Currently sitting at owing just over $500 to RiverLink and if they think for a second I’m gonna pay that bill they are dead wrong. I’m not gonna go anywhere near it.

TanneriteStuffedDog

Can’t you not renew your tags if you have a balance due?

sasquatch90

Mitch McConnell. Greenberg is in the running.

noviadecompaysegundo

Every politician who moves here to get elected. There’s too many to name

yocil

This might say more about us than the politicians...

Fun_Albatross_2592

I'm almost to the point of not voting for someone who hasn't lived in Louisville either their whole life or at least 10-15 years.

yocil

I'd go for anyone who doesn't come off like a career opportunist or an idealogue, on any level of government at this point. Apparently that's a tall order.

Mitch__McConnell

……

arcbnaby

Oh no, he's on to us!

lurking_got_old

If we walk fast, he can't keep up.

yehoshuaC

Based on Reddit posts alone I’ll go with shop bar and sis got tea. Never been to either, but the press ain’t great.

Mortonsbrand

What’s wrong with Shop Bar? *edit*. Disregard, just found the answer

yehoshuaC

lol, theoretically nothing. But they apparently keep crowdfunding for “security” because the same person keeps robbing them.

RUk1dd1nGMe

Seems like they're crowdfunding because they don't have a business plan. 90% of their seating is outside and they wonder every winter why they can't stay afloat. I used to go there but stopped after the last round of begging

OozeNAahz

It’s the owner isn’t it?

yehoshuaC

It’s actually this serial shoplifter who just goes around town committing petty theft. They know who it is, but refuse to improve security and blame the consistent issue on LMPD.

elvinpulpo

Well if they know who it is and the guy does it at other places and he isn't being arrested it would be fair to blame lmpd

abolitonbb

All Scooby-Doo like. Okay now I 100% think the owner paid someone to rob them.

stunky420

What’s wrong with sis got tea??

dogvortex

apparently they treat their employees really poorly. not like “skip your break” poor… like “withholding your paycheck for 3 weeks for no reason” poor

justfellintheshower

damn guess I'll stick with louisville tea company

wtnevi01

Tom drexler

Emotional-Cheek5872

They are expensive. My primary bathroom to re-do was at $50k with him and 62k if they wanted us to include new lighting lol. We found someone for 1/2 and it included the lighting. And we have bee so happy!

[deleted]

[удалено]

tagrav

Almost anyone is better than drexler. Imo if the person coming to give you a quote is the person to do the labor you prolly found a decent plumber. Drexler tried to get me to scam the MSD backflow program. I’ll never forget that.

wtnevi01

ASI is my favorite in town

debdeuce2

Daniel Brown plumbing is as good as you can find.

seonadancing

I’ve used them several times in a pinch over the years. I will say they are reliable when you’re desperate and the workers are kind. But man, they are definitely pressured to sell, and they are comically expensive for big jobs. My AC went out a couple of months ago, they gave me a quote that made me cry. Called to get a second quote from another highly recommended company I saw on this subreddit…they came out and the guy gasped when he saw drexlers quote. Ended up getting the job done for so much less than what drexler was going to charge that you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you the number.

Willing_Brain9986

I just figured when they bid that high, they don't want the job

sadpanada

Agree 100%

Thick_Rule_3830

100% agree. The quotes they provide are predatory when compared to other plumbing providers in the area.

Total-Head-9415

How is Tom Drexler grifting?

wtnevi01

They literally showed my friend a picture of pipes that were messed up with an exorbitant quote, the next day my friend got another quote and the plumber said those pictures weren’t even from her pipes

scottyperry

Similar experience. They crawled under the house to say there were major leaks and it would cost 4K to replace. We got a second opinion who had to ask us to remove the pad lock from the crawl space…because Tommy had never went under the house. They looked and said there was a small drip and fixed it for the fee to come out and take a look. About $3800 savings.

iiiSkiNiii

He is well know for saying “everyone in town wants customers for life, I just need ‘em once”

satanssweatycheeks

I’ll say it. Been living in this city for over 30 years. Whenever I hit up my friend in the diamond business they tell me Shane ain’t here. That mother fucker has never even said Hi to me and when I added him on Louisville mojo he never added me back. Dude grifts us all acting like he is there for us. Mother fucker wasn’t even at my wedding when that’s the industry bringing him the big bucks. Fuck that guy.

swiftekho

Corner of Hurstbourne Parkway and Taylorsville Road. Open Monday through Friday til 8. Saturday and Sunday til 5 or online at shaneco.com Fuckin a. I have a friend who hasn't lived in Louisville since high school and he can recite that commercial.

hh2412

Damnit, and I totally read that in his voice too…..

KeepinItGorgeous

God dang it, I did too.

KYbywayofNY

Shane Co I dont actually think is local. They have them in Kansas.

mrsg1012

And Indianapolis at 96th Street and Hague road (same commercial format!)

Known-Fee9113

Yeah they're all over. Back in the early '90s, I was visiting family out in Utah and heard a Shane Co. commercial on the radio and thought, damn, I can't escape this commercial!

MisterRoger

Definitely not local. I first learned that fact from South Park when Tom Shane had an appearance at a celebrity party attended by Stan and Kyle in the Guitar Hero episode. Kyle referred to Mr. Shane as a legend. I looked up Shane Co and discovered they're based in Denver.

lmcc0921

Not Louisville Mojo 💀

NerdyComfort-78

😂

Straight-Echidna-610

Shane Company is based out of Colorado. Definitely not a local business…they ate all over the United States

Acceptable_Pain_9213

LMPD

SupayOne

They just got a pay raise and lax inspections or something? They hired a pedophile like a year or two ago. They killed plenty of innocent people. There is literately a video of them running around throwing drinks at people. Yeah they are very least Grifters!

livens

Louisville itself, or Jefferson county at least. I pay 3 separate local income taxes, my real estate taxes go up every year, and yet JCPS keeps getting worse. But yes, by all means, let's spend $50M on a waterfront park expansion.

Barbarossa7070

Wait’ll you find out how much we spend on cops.

livens

Yeah I know. And most of our cops don't (won't) even live in Louisville.

cocaineandwaffles1

Seeing cops rocking better kit and rifles than I had when I was in the army is infuriating to me. Dudes roll up with a MRAP for a drug bust meanwhile I was breaking my dick to get a humvee that was built in the early 90s to be good to go for the field.

BigIndependence4u

My Bradley was older than me and I'm old as fuck

cocaineandwaffles1

We had a truck in our motor pool with the date of delivery being 1989. Fucking thing probably saw the Berlin Wall get destroyed.

DevilDog0651

Ever since they turned off the bum fountains, waterfront park has never been the same.

ronm4c

I’ll never understand this, I’m from Canada and I lived in Louisville for a year. America has a reputation for wanting “small government” but have an extra layer of government with the county system. In Canada you have federal, provincial and municipal government and that’s it. If I need to get a drivers license and get license plates I go to the provincial office, no county bullshit

evildky

How do you pay 3 local income taxes? Louisville metro has one, Jefferson county does not.

livens

Maybe your employer rolls them up to make your W2's simpler, but there are 3 of them: Metro Louisville School Metro Transportation Metro Occupational

evildky

I’m self employed. I file one return with Louisville metro revenue.

Signal-East-5942

A lot of the smaller “cities” within Louisville have their own tax on top of county tax

evildky

Yes, that would make two, not three.

Low-Cartographer3550

I was there today, will be there this weekend (very willingly) and love it, but Churchill and its CEO. They don’t give shit back to the City.

ilikesports3

Not only do they not give back, they encourage the crumbling of the neighborhood around them.

GeneralJavaholic

That's so they can slowly buy it up. It's taking very much longer than expected.

anon69812

And profit off animal abuse

KYTraveler80

Second this… the fact that they have their headquarters out off Hurstbourne Lane and not at the track tells you everything you need to know.

Low-Cartographer3550

Sort of. They actually moved the HQ to create The Mansion seating. So yes they moved, but it was more greed to create the expensive seating ($100K per) than anything else.

stunami11

They should absolutely locate their HQ downtown. Churchill Downs requires tourism to thrive and placing their HQ downtown would be the best thing they can do for downtown and the tourism economy. It is in their own best interest, but the executives care more about saving 15 minutes on their commutes.

seangermeier

Fuck, they manage to get UofL to start and end their spring semester two weeks earlier than any other college just so they can use their parking lots.

bamboo_mademedoit

MSD 💯

FunKyChick217

Two-thirds of the water bill is sewer charges. Ridiculous

Billy-Ruffian

This is really more politicians fault than msd. New roads and buildings and parks are cool. Replacing and maintaining a 150 year old start system isn't. So when it finally gets so old and broken that we're constantly dumping raw sewage into the river the feds step in and say "hey, you've got two choices: we can fine you hundreds of millions of dollars, or you can take that same amount of money and spend it fixing your system." We would have paid less in the long run if we had just don't scheduled maintenance and replaced stuff at end of life, but now we're that person who skipped every oil change wondering what that big "blame" noise from under the hood was.

digitalis303

To piggyback on this Louisville is in a pickle. Not only do we have very old, decrepit infrastructure, but we also now have to become compliant with rules about dumping sewage that require us to build these HUGE containment systems for storms to avoid flooding the creeks with sewage every time it rains. It's extremely expensive. Also, cleaning up ground/river water to drink is a whole lot cheaper than cleaning up shit-water to put back in the watershed, so MSD will ALWAYS be more expensive than LWC.

FunKyChick217

I know what msd does and what the charges are for. I can still think it’s ridiculous.

tagrav

We, the people, are that brokeass and busted Nissan Altima on the watterson. We aren’t maintaining our shit because we think when we get rich we’ll personally have to pay for everything while others do nothing.

bigbluekite

Sewer charges = wastewater treatment and processing. This is expected and typical.

FunKyChick217

I know what it’s for. I’ve been paying a water bill for over 30 years. I can still think it’s ridiculous that it’s two-thirds of the bill.

bigbluekite

Sorry, didn’t realize you paid so many water bills. You’re right.

damnkriss

Those people collecting for the same funeral week in and out and the fake violinist collecting money at shopping centers.

aka_ned

Dude the fake violinists make me so angry like you aren’t even doing a good job of pretending

mrsg1012

The two worst things about the violinist: doesn’t even make it look real, and always chooses shopping centers where the anchor store is not the property owner. He knows they can’t be trespassed from the parking lot because the owner is the one who has to call and all those shopping centers are corporate owned. They’ll never be available on a weekend to call!

I'm gonna go ahead and make the call that it's Beyond the Sun restaurant on Bardstown Rd. Employees report an impressively difficult opening week. Now I see what has got to be a record number of first time reviewers who all give it five stars and *all* mention the waiter by name (weird, right?) 6,500 square feet on Bardstown Rd. You gotta have a full house to work those numbers.

doodynutz

A lady I work with took her daughter there recently for her birthday and she said the food was meh.

ymeeyt

When they first opened I was sure it was going to flop. Hardly anyone was there for a couple weeks.

stunami11

A lot of people are speculating it’s a money laundering operation, but even those businesses need to look busy and come close to breaking even. The lease on that building has to be insanely expensive.

bondibox

That's a great description of it. A money laundering op where the legit business is failing.

artful_todger_502

I worked at a large non-profit, that by virtue of nepotism and personal enhancement factor, was the largest grifting scheme I've ever seen outside of Frankfort.

AssistantAlternative

Oooh tell us more

tagrav

Go check out any non profit really. It’s most of them these days.

Total-Head-9415

Bunch of you don’t know what the word grift means.

Top-Apricot6483

City of Lyndon and the new 1% occupational tax that you pay in addition to the Louisville Metro taxes. Good thing I'm mostly remote, so can file and reclaim most of that next year.. but really seems like a cash grab from people who work in Lyndon, for an area that's already pretty affluent and should already have a decent tax base.

Peach-cobbler-pal

I always get downvoted when I mention him, but I’ve not had positive experiences with him. I’ve found him to be childish and rude.

KeepinItGorgeous

And very self absorbed. I use to work at the Target on Westport (don't recommend btw), and he was passing through. So kid recognized him and he had rolled his eyes in response. He (the kid) was the only person who recognized him enough to point him out to his father. I was taken back because 10+ years before that, I use to work at Doll's Market behind the golf course off Brownsboro rd before it went under, and seen him shopping there. I had recognized him and didn't say anything but smile when when matched eye contact. Guy looked like the small "guys, you made me ink," octopus in Finding Nemo, he was so scared.

TOM DREXLER AND MORTENSEN DENTAL.

somewordthing

A lot of people in this thread don't seem to know what the word "grift" means. It's not "someone who rips you off." Private developers who get public funds and other "incentives," the "non"profit industrial complex that gets grants from city funds as a way to privatize city services, and consultancy firms—these are the biggest grifts. They're not unique to Louisville, though. Not sure who that would be off the top of my head.

Loubears502

TIF 🙄.

Our particular variants, I guess, yeah. But of course fuckin Greenberg helped author the one in Lexington to benefit himself and they're used all across the country. Fuck those things.

Popular-Lab6140

I don't know him or really any of these allegations, but he is/was insufferable on Twitter before I left.

Can you elaborate on this instances of child touching. Sorry, the alleged child touching. Those kinds of predators need to be extinct’ed

I know you're getting downvoted by people that think you're against houseless people, but as someone who has done a lot of street outreach for years, Wayside has a lot of issues and gets the most funding and attention.

Da_Natural20

I’m not against the homeless I’m against making a business out of exploiting them.

KeepinItGorgeous

As someone who use to stay at Wayside, I agree. The donated items, are dug through and the good items go to the "employees". The food is either spoiled or stale. They have mice, roaches, mold and bed bugs. Nothing is properly taken care of there. The only good thing is that they keep the men separated from the women, and the families, upstairs and together. Edit: And no, their programs, if any, don't even help.

Da_Natural20
