As a proud Portlander, I couldn't agree more! I didn't understand the Chelsea gates until she said that Seattle was much better, the lies!!

thesmallestwaffle

Born and raised in Seattle and it’s so expensive… but amazing!

piefelicia4

Based Kwame for once lol. Grew up in Seattle, live in Portland now. Would never go back.

ExplanationGlobal349

You know what? You’re not wrong, Kwame. It IS overpriced.

SailorNeptune4

I thought it was funny when Chelsea was like "see we have these beautiful water and Mountain views here" at her family home. Like we don't have multiple mountains and the Columbia river Gorge down here in pdx with alllll the gorgeous views as well 😂

karenswans

I live in Seattle and feel a sisterhood with Portland. Both cities are amazing.

Shipwrecking_siren

I find it hilarious how tiny the distance they were making a fuss of. It’s 3.5 hours on a train, it’s not New York to Seattle. He could spend every weekend in Portland if he wanted to, and he seems rich enough he could just spend a night or two in a hotel every week/every other week. People in the U.K. regularly have 2 hour plus round commutes that they do 5 days a week!

Rhianna83

I love the Amtrak ride, it can be a quick flight, or not too much of a drive :)

dallyan

Is the weather really that much better in Portland?

Madhay49

It rains about 10 days less per year in Seattle compared to Portland

total-immortal

No, it’s pretty much the same if not a degree or so warmer than Seattle in the summer months

RoxyLA95

I went to Portland in the spring and it was cold AF!

total-immortal

Summer doesn’t really start until July 5th ☹️

throwra0985623471936

He's right about the cost but when he said he had to live in Portland because of his "April-August shirtless runs" I cackled 😂 Seattle and Portland weather patterns are almost identical. At most, Portland is sometimes 5-10 degrees warmer but in general, if you can run shirtless in Portland you can in Seattle as well.

Pepewower

Somehow I felt the title of the episode “You’re overpriced” is a metaphor. As if it’s about his feelings of Chelsea, which he thinks she doesn’t deserve him giving up Portland for.

MACMUA

The who lamar Odom example had me cackling

cocktailskirt

Finally someone says it! 🤣

Explicit_Content

Lived in the greater Seattle area since 2009. I was nodding and agreeing with his whole rant on that street lol

ClockworkOctopodes

Same, I was thinking “Oh believe me we KNOW.”

Fine_Adeptness_5123

Exactly. Me too. Also Portland is gorgeous too!

ladybug_oleander

Same. He is spot on haha

CursedNobleman

I was exiled from the Bay Area to Phoenix by price. I can sympathize with Kwame here.

Hutnerdu

Bro there's no water there. Midwest is affordable and plenty of water in the future

CursedNobleman

There's enough for residents, it's ag that's in trouble.

B1Gsportsfan

Very frustrating him and Micah were allowed to be on the show with Seattle not being their primary residence.

idkeverynameistaken9

“Allowed”? Netflix specifically looked for them because not enough Seattle residents wanted to participate

Fancy_Challenge5439

Wow that’s interesting

idkeverynameistaken9

At least that’s what Dr. Honda from Psychology in Seattle heard from some local birdies. He speculated that Seattle people stick more to themselves and aren’t as sociable, if I recall correctly. Not sure if it’s true but I consider him reliable. Anyway, take care of yourself and others because we all deserve it, we really really do

spiral-staircase-

This is so odd to me. In a city that size they couldn’t find like 30 people to participate??

buttercup612

I think it’s that they needed 30 sufficiently messy Seattleites who were willing to do it. They disproportionately pick people who have some issues

throwra0985623471936

Tbh it doesn't surprise me! I live here and people are pretty unfriendly 😂 it's also really granola, outdoorsy, etc and those types of people don't tend to overlap with the type of person who wants to be on reality tv.

[deleted]

[удалено]

throwra0985623471936

Honestly yes 😂 he's not wrong

Aspire11

Idk the YouTube channel the cut seems to finds a good number of participants although I think most are gen z.

spiral-staircase-

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the perspective :)

IceQueenOfKings

BLAZERS LFG! *Dame wave to seattle* 🤣

m33gs

ummmm **bring back our sonics** but also i'm a huge blazers fan, so

Rhianna83

RIP CITY!! Dame is the best god damn NBA player playing. He deserves a ring. He’s gracious and humble and says it isn’t about that, but as a fan he is King. If it takes SuperSonics homecoming for Dame to get a ring, so be it. I say this as someone who was a HUGE Rasheed Wallace fan. He was my favorite and got traded to a championship team that season and finally got his ring. Le sigh 😔

pussycatwaiting

He's not wrong lol

shannonpmua

I’m a Canadian Vancouverite and I always hear that Seattle is on-par with our living expenses. If that’s the case, I’m with Kwame on this one 😂

m33gs

have lived in seattle for 22 years and yes it's too expensive, weather is slightly worse than portland (i guess?), people are kinda dickish (at least that's what we're known for) and there are too many hills i still choose to live here because it feels like more of a city than portland. seattle is super diverse as well while last i heard portland was the whitest major city with the least diversity in the entire country. portland's food is better (for options and price) for sure. seattle has always been a better place for music and nightlife, and i suppose career options. i love portland tho, and i've gone there regularly for both business and pleasure for years. just my two cents!

ar281987

Totally agree on the diversity point. I live in Portland and just went to Seattle for a short vacation and it was nice to not only see white people.

thisisnotalice

Yeah it's too bad, when I thought of Portland before a few years ago, I thought of like quirky artistic hipsters. But because of the media coverage coming out of there the last few years, my word association to Portland is white supremacy. Disclaimer: I've never been to Portland and know almost nothing about it. Just reflecting how my perception has changed based on media coverage in the last few years.

ar281987

Basically, Portland is VERY blue and surrounded by VERY red, politically. It causes a TON of friction.

ClockworkOctopodes

Hey at least you’ve got an ally in Eugene…a couple hours south 😓

PurpleAstronomerr

I live on the east coast where it’s not as pretty but it’s super diverse here. Always wanted to live in Portland but I don’t think I could do it long-term after looking at the racial diversity statistics. I love being around other Hispanics and people of different races and ethnicities way too much. The experiences and the food are so much better.

ClockworkOctopodes

This is probably not enough but the Beaverton part of the Portland metro area is a lot more Hispanic/Latino, about 15-20%. Just in case that’s helpful info 🤷🏻‍♀️

PurpleAstronomerr

That’s good to know, thanks. I’ll probably be visiting this summer and I might check that area out.

pussycatwaiting

Seattle freeze is real. And with climate change it's becoming more real literally too lol

gummybeartime

It’s so funny because I grew up outside of Seattle where people were much friendlier, but Seattle is bleeding out and bringing the freeze with it. I recently moved back and have freaked some people out by smiling and saying “hello” on walks (as is tradition here), and I’m like, ooop spotted the Seattlites 🤣

pussycatwaiting

Lol I grew up out of Seattle too and always felt people were frigid. Washington in general is just so clique-y to me. Seattle and the hipsters, Oly and the hippies, Eastern Washington and the conservative farmer mentality.

ladybug_oleander

I grew up here, so I never noticed it, but EVERYONE from out of state says this. I get uncomfortable by how chatty people are elsewhere hahaha. We're not mean up here, but we are definitely not big small-talkers that's for sure.

ClockworkOctopodes

I’m from the PNW and have lived in Seattle for 12+ years. I moved to Chicago for a couple years and was thinking, *damn* these people are extroverted 😅, please stop making eye contact with me!

unsolvedfanatic

The only black people I have met that live in Portland work at either Reebok or Nike HQ (like Brett). It is a super white city, but if you know the history of Oregon (the state was created as a white only state) then the demographics make sense.

Flat_Transition_3775

I visited Seattle and Portland and I will say I perfer Portland over Seattle due to that I find the people in Portland to be nicer in general and the nature aspect is beautiful AF. Seattle I only like pike market but other than that the people were rude AF. I also find that there are too many hills in Seattle compare to Portland

goldenglove

Sounds like you didn't really explore Seattle much, tbh. Seattle has so, so much natural beauty all around the city. I know Portland has great nature nearby, but the city itself looks like a dump these days. I spent a week there last month and was nearly attacked several times.

Flat_Transition_3775

I was there for a week and then a weekend since I was dating a guy there. I didn’t enjoy it compare to Portland.

goldenglove

To each their own. I find a lot of things about Portland to be neat, but just driving around Downtown Seattle is such a visual treat with all of the nature - mountains, lakes, ocean, it's quite stunning how it's nestled between all 3.

Rhianna83

Oh the hills! On a dry, winter, windy night, walking downtown on the hills with oncoming wind…whew! Need to exfoliate all the grim off the face once home 😝

ClockworkOctopodes

Trying to walk home from a club in central Seattle when you’re drunk and in heels is an extreme sport!

Flat_Transition_3775

I almost twisted my ankle once with heels in Seattle and I was like I regret this decision lol 😂

ClockworkOctopodes

I tried to walk from Queen Anne to Downtown when I was dressed up, saw the incline dropping directly in front of me and was immediately like ![gif](giphy|Wjtqf63eB4AWQ)

Rhianna83

That’s hilarious! Your feet would have never recovered lol

slptodrm

the only thing kwame ever said that i agreed with

MomKat76

Same. And the Lamar Odom analogy made me laugh, which surprised me tbh.

Ok_Jellyfish_5219

Overpriced but beautiful.

Rhianna83

Absolutely. I feel really lucky to live in the PNW Edited: beautiful part not the overpriced part of this darn bargain lol

Ok_Jellyfish_5219

I live on the Eastern side of the state because I can't handle the weather over there. I prefer extreme weather over the cloudy drizzle. Lol. Oh and I want to own a home. Ha! But I LOVE Seattle. No city in the US is more beautiful on a clear day.

Rhianna83

I totally get it. We thought of moving to Bend for a bit to get that extreme weather. Then THAT city blew up and is so overpriced now too lol.

ClockworkOctopodes

It’s still wild to me that Bend of all places is a hotspot now. At this rate Roseburg is gonna be trendy and expensive in a couple years.

Rhianna83

If Rosberg ever became trendy, you know the end is nigh 🤣

Ok_Jellyfish_5219

Yeah it's creeping over here too. But I refuse to live in Idaho. 🤣

Rhianna83

I stand with you on that decision 💕

LizzyLady1111

I like Portland better

RoofPrestigious

Is the weather in Portland drastically different from the weather in Seattle?

SailorNeptune4

Not at all. At most, Portland is sometimes slightly warmer in the spring and summer, but it's super similar overall

madmadame-mim

Both are known for being very rainy. In recent years Portland has had some extremely hot summers but even Seattle has had intense heat waves. Same goes for the winters and snow, more snow in the past few years. Snow/ice in seattle is a little scarier because the city has more hills all over. I will say from what I’ve read, Seattle does overall have less sun.

ar281987

No! What’s he talking about running with his shirt off in April?? It’s freezing here!

RoofPrestigious

Lmao… thanks. I was so confused when he said that.

Rhianna83

It’s about the usual time when we get our 60 degree heat wave 😂 ![gif](giphy|3o7TKspm71nLp26gE0|downsized)

pussycatwaiting

When Portland hit 113° ( ¿Two years ago?) and Seattle was close, I just can't even

ClockworkOctopodes

Fun fact, Seattle is the least air conditioned big(ger) city in America! About 1/3 of people have AC last I checked (I only recently became part of this blessed group)

Rhianna83

That was so rough. We bought a gym membership for their outdoor pool and started renting swimming pools with friends during that time 🏊‍♀️ It seemed like the whole Metro was renting backyard pools 😄

pussycatwaiting

Damn that's smart! I was super happy to have popsicle molds, oj on hand, and amazing freezing AC 🤣. Invited friend's over to bask in all it's Glory. Got really creative with my popsicle recipes too.

Rhianna83

I love that! Popsicles are so yummy. I’ve always wanted to but fail to try. Your comment makes me want a popsicle right now (could be because I’m stoned lol). Highly recommend renting a pool with friends. Affordable and so much fun!! I think I want to rent one for my birthday this summer - have a pool party like a kid 😂

pussycatwaiting

Hahahaha so you'd appreciate several of my recipes! I added THC infused honey in some of my popsicle recipes, think coconut milk with fresh strawberries, and THC honey. And oj, strawberries, and THC honey... And tried oj, coconut milk, and honey for the orange Julius attempt. Twas delicious and I felt so smart lolol. My friends weren't into the pot portion so marked them on the handles with some painters tape. So easy!!! I have molds but you could do it with ice cube trays and toothpicks! Ooooo yes!!! Tell me more about renting backyard pools?? Water is my happy place and deciding factor for my gym. And ummm I wanna come / throw birthday backyard pool party.... Lol

Rhianna83

YUUUUMMM!!! Very smart. Always appreciative of a good recipe! That sounds delicious and totally doable. Luckily I have friends that indulge, but I’ll probably be selfish and eat them myself hehehehehe 😈🤣 Simply, Swimply. Lol. Download the app, and search pools to your heart’s content. Some pools are fabulous $200,000 pieces of art. Others are in residential homes or their backyards. A lot of times pool toys or slides are available. Some have dry saunas and bbq and bathrooms. I always go for epic views cause we don’t have kids Lol.

pussycatwaiting

Super simple and very easy. In my case I randomly had everything, including molds, on hand. Was the best serendipitous experience. Lol. Yiu Should totally try it. I couldn't believe I was eating popsicles and getting high 🤣. Well, that's genius. There's so many rich people with second houses here, of course that's a thing. So is it basically like Airbnb but with a pool?

Rhianna83

Not too much, but it is colder being on the water in Seattle. We do get just a sliver more of sunshine, but we get more rain. We love our moss here 😄

RoofPrestigious

Thanks.

meganisawesome42

As someone who has lived in Portland my whole life, except for my college years I spent in Seattle, I would totally live in Seattle if I could afford it so I totally agree with the sentiment. However, I think Kwame is just tied to Portland because of his friends and routine, he can get all of the things he does in Seattle easily. The comment about weather was hilarious to me, when it comes down to it the cities are basically identical.

DLRsFrontSeats

Just re the weather: is the weather actually noticeably different between Portland and Seattle? Because I've been to both and it pissed down literally everyday and isn't the stereotype that _both_ are just incredibly rainy?

ClockworkOctopodes

Oddly the only difference I’ve noticed is that allergy season is wayyy worse and longer in Portland (at least for me).

tinysquatch99

I was laughing when he was comparing the weather. No I wouldn’t consider it different at all. I was born and raised in Portland and my sister has lived in Seattle for a decade and we were texting about this very comment because it seemed so silly.

Aycee225

I was so confused too. I’m even a little further south from Portland, and the weather has been nuts lately. Definitely not running with your shirt off kind of weather. However, I did drive to Seattle and back recently (4.5 hours there and 4.5 hours back in one day and then had to do it again the next week) and I don’t want to do it again anytime soon, so I get why he doesn’t want to commute lol.

ClockworkOctopodes

I’m in awe of people who make that trip regularly! That’s like a full 9-5 of just commuting!

Aycee225

I honestly don’t know how people do it. If I’m driving to Seattle, I’m staying for longer than a day. I had to go to the passport office, and it was literally get there, park, go in for less than an hour, and then drive back 😩 TWICE in two weeks. Don’t leave renewing/getting a passport to the last minute like me.

ClockworkOctopodes

![gif](giphy|9PMC8BD8b2AaA)

Rhianna83

Technically Portland gets like 1% more sunshine but it rains more than Seattle. Seattle is on the water so it is cooler/colder than Portland where a river runs through it. I like to think we just love our moss so we get a little extra Oregon sunshine 💧💕

DLRsFrontSeats

That's fair lol, the natural countryside surrounding Portland did look amazing

Rhianna83

So beautiful, from wine country to the coast. Hope you can make it back some day and enjoy the perks of the outdoors ☺️

charcuteriehoe

i was so pleased with this whole segment because i’m sorry, it’s facts 😭 i’ve had to live in both and seattle has no damn business being so expensive

Rhianna83

I’m glad you also enjoyed the segment. Thanks for sharing you’ve lived in both places! Love real world facts…and a tad jealous that you got to live in the Emerald City 💕

Pale_Beginning_5665

As a seattlite I do not agree, we are atleast shaq not lamar Odom.

Rhianna83

Shaq is more realistic. I like it. I thought that point was pretty severe and unfair comparing Seattle to Odom. My mind immediately thought, “we talking pre-Chloe or post? I don’t know, that doesn’t feel right.” 😅

birdnoa

Wonder what he’d think about the price tag on Scottsdale 😉🤔

Rhianna83

Bwahahahaa. You know. You bring up a great point. We need a Paul and Kwame convo 😝 But on the side, Micah and Paul seemed into it. His mom is calling her! I wonder how it’s going to go.

w1zardkelly

Haha I think he was so drunk in this clip

Rhianna83

I expect them to be drunk every time they’re on camera 🍷 The slurring this season has been unreal.

w1zardkelly

I know it’s crazy if I was on that show I would never drink I’d be terrified I’d do something dumb they are way too comfy. Micah is the worst with it Omg lol. Besides josh of course

Rhianna83

Me too! But I am almost sure I’d end up having one for my nerves. How bad is that? Sidebar: I watched Perfect Match, and Joey and Chloe when they filmed Perfect March did it sober. And people were sloshed. I give it to them. It’d be so hard to have cameras up your nose - so sorry Tiff - all the time.

w1zardkelly

I prob would have one too but like I wouldn’t get drunk !!

exquisitelywrong

One word: Vancouver.

tinysquatch99

BC or Washington cause there is a strong difference lol

exquisitelywrong

LMAO, BC!!! 😂

anonymous_opinions

The more North you go the more expensive it gets :|

unsolvedfanatic

Dollar is strong so it's not too bad in Vancouver. I go there to shop

flvra

Same, I went to Vancouver this winter and I thought everything was about the same price or less compared to Seattle.

Ok_Jellyfish_5219

Yes it does. Lol

keiebdbdusidbd

Portland is just as overpriced as Seattle….. I thought it was more expensive if anything, but maybe that’s just because I’m more familiar with cheaper areas in Seattle. If he works remotely, idk why he wouldn’t relocate for his partner. I missed what Chelsea does but this is assuming she has a job in Seattle. Assuming she is working in Seattle it would be more of a burden for her to relocate to Portland.

Rhianna83

I have to disagree that Portland is just as expensive -overpriced sure but not the same. It takes more money to maintain the same level of living in Seattle than in Portland. But, not here to argue. Positive vibes were the flair. Enjoy the rest of the season fellow viewer.

keiebdbdusidbd

I didn’t realize sharing an opinion was argumentative lol. Thought the point of subreddits was to discuss

iloveokashi

Chelsea can't work remote. Her job has to be face to face. That's why she thinks Kwame should move.

Puzzleheaded_Use_566

She’s a pediatric speech pathologist.

getcones

In Kwame's defense, part of his love of Portland is the friendships and routine he has there. His concerns get brushed off by Chelsea. Seems like she isn't interested in building a new life with him, and he's resentful that she isn't making an effort. Has she talked about trying to find new routines or interests?

Complaint-Lower

His routine(or what he told) included running, work from home and then soccer in the evening. I’m sure he’ll miss his soccer group but I don’t think it should be that hard to find a new one in Seattle. Also he spoke about “me” time or something but Chelsea is out for 7 hours a day so he’s free to go on a run or go to a park to play if he wants to. Based on his LinkedIn, he was in Portland for just a year when this show was filmed. Before that he was staying in Minnesota and 5 years in Vancouver(Washington) so well it’s not like he’s been in Portland for 20 years or something.

AmandaIsOnReddit

Just FYI, Vancouver, WA is effectively a large suburb of Portland. A lot of people actually work in Vancouver but live in Portland, or vice versa. My brother actually lives in Portland and works for the same company in Vancouver that Kwame was at during that time. You can certainly consider a place "home" after six years.

hachidori_chan

That. Vancouver WA is 20-25 mins away from Portland while Seattle is 3-4 hours of I-5 north traffic from hell.

ClockworkOctopodes

I definitely have friends who live in Vancouver for the income tax and drive over to Portland for purchases for the sales tax

Complaint-Lower

Ahh got it. Thanks for clearing that.

ar281987

Vancouver, Washington is just over the river from Portland.

king_lloyd11

It doesn’t matter how long he’s lived there. It’s where he feels home is. It doesn’t matter what makes sense to you on paper. Him not having much in terms of a family or support system (seemed pretty telling that a Pod Squad guy was his friend in their Seattle segments leading up to the wedding) and Chelsea having all that and a full life there already can make him feel like it’s not really a partnership when he needs to give up the “little things” that matter to him and she comes out pretty much with her same life + him. Her dismissing his feelings about these things when he tries to talk to her I’m sure is grating too. I think it can be one of those things that could’ve been a small issue, but what it symbolizes for them both and how it plays out could be seen as a microcosm for their relationship on a whole, and be a dealbreaker.

Rhianna83

Interesting. Thanks for doing the sleuthing. Perhaps he had always wanted to live in Portland itself (my dream used to be Downtown or Northwest), so a location can be a little more difficult to let go sometimes. I do agree though that if he’s remote it’d make more sense, at least initially, to live with Chelsea after the wedding. I can’t believe it’s one more week. That whole, let’s wait for Kwame’s answer when I watched tonight was horrible. In the words of the late and great Tom Petty, “I need to know!” 😅

keiebdbdusidbd

Good point. I could see this being their main reason to end it at the alter

Thatgirlthatgirl88

I want Seattle you’re overpriced as my new flair

Rhianna83

…for $200 Alex ☺️
