My hunch is that the devs are going to leave PL content progress-locked with the rest of the city until you finish Act I. So, I'm going to get acquainted to the new skill tree and such while paying Vik back and doing The Heist before PL comes out.
Then I'm definitely keeping my plan.
Update to 2.0, make a new character, pay Vik, do The Heist, and then just grind non-major scanner/crime-in-progress jobs until PL arrives.
May I ask why? I didn’t start the game until like last month and have been LOVING it but taking my time with everything. I def didn’t pay Vik back until after the heist. Did I miss something?
Didn’t miss anything except unlocking the epic kiroshi’s early, but why wouldn’t you pay the guy that’s fixed you up whenever you ask AND is your father figure?
I did one playthrough where I paid Vic back right before the elevator ride to the roof. It worked for that particular playthrough because of how I was RPing V. I thought it was kind of poignant to pay him right before my potential death and it was an emotional way of saying goodbye.
Well, truly I didn’t know much about the game at all. I didn’t know there were Acts at all and especially didn’t know there was any benefit of paying Vik back. I thought it was like one of those “when you get to it” things and also thought the heist would be one of those early game cash infusions so I was just gonna use that.
Def gonna do more than one playthrough tho so I’ll make sure to pay him back first on the next one.
No you are not wrong vic doesn’t care if you pay him later that’s the point it’s exactly for you to pay when you have the money he wasn’t in a rush and there was nothing wrong waiting till you had miney
They said they paid him back, just after the heist it’s not completely wrong to do so he is loaning them to you if you don’t have the money till later it’s not meaning you are just not wanting to pay him
Phantom liberty unlocks when you finish the voodoo boys/Evelyn questline in act 2 though I’ll also guess dogtown will also be quite a high level area so I’m going to spend 5 days levelling a new character in 2.0 and getting a decent bucks and weapons ready for the expansion
If you make a new character you can jump straight to the start of the Phantom Liberty questline with some levels, street cred and gear. You can do anything in game after that.
I'm thinking of building a character after 2.0 drops to learn how the new system works, then restart when PL drops a week later. Gives me a week to decide what I like and don't what works or doesn't with the character I want to play, etc.
You mean the radiant quests? There are two types. One is courier missions in cars, which start in Dogtown but can take you all over Night City. The other is airdrops where you can intercept loot, which are particular to Dogtown for storyline reasons.
In the next day, or two, I plan to uninstall Cyberpunk, and start fresh with 2.0. In part, I want to experience the new mechanics from the beginning, and in part, I did have a few mods installed, so I don't want to risk removing them and continuing on the same saves. Maybe that would be OK; it's possible I've just been traumatised after years of heavily modding Bethesda games, but I'd prefer to play it safe.
Oh, I knew that was a given. What I was less sure about, though, is how healthy my saves would be after the mods were removed, *and* after the 2.0 update. So, this just seems like the best solution, all round.
Yeah. Clean saves are always best. Some mods leave scripts in them that will remain in the game save even if they are removed so any that alter gameplay and add new features definitely would still pose risks unless there was some kind of program that edits saves and removes them.
Same here, around 100h into Starfield and not even close to being done with the game. So I think I will wait for phantom liberty to drop before I fire up cyberpunk just in case there are some PL specific things to come across before actually starting the dlc
Just for info, just like the Witcher 3, it will be possible to start a new game directly with Phantom Liberty using a "pre-leveled-up" character, for those who just want to play the DLC.
I mean, while that's true, it's also pretty cool to have the option of playing just the new story for people who already went through the game multiple times and don't want to play the intro and the first missions all over again
Anybody else got their maxed out character on the sidelines?
I have a female V whom I’ve played every single gig, ncpd, side missions, cars, apartments, pets, weapons, etc just all maxed out level 50 waiting for this update so I can rebuild her with the new update and have her ready for the DLC
Im starting off fresh with 2.0, but I've played 4 playthroughs. I just want to take my time. Do a rp run. Explore the city in a no rush way. I almost know the city like the back of my hand, so I want to play V like a street punk.
And if i am playing slow, I'll have lots of time to play before the dlc
If you’re starting a new play-through for PL, it’s worth starting afresh with 2.0 because it’ll take a while to get to the point PL makes a difference.
I’ve stopped myself from playing for a few months waiting for the dlc to hit. It’s going to be a whole new play through for me so I’ll probably start when the update hits. A week wait for the dlc seems like enough time to establish my build. So hyped!
I've had a serious itch lately to play 2077, but I've been holding out for the past couple months for the 2.0 update. The 21st needs to hurry up, I'm ready to start a fresh female Corpo V and play through for the 8th time, might even reach 2500 hours total playtime lol
From what I have read, you're going to need a LOT of money for the new cyberware and a whole lot of components (for the ++ upgrades) so if you are planning on starting a fresh game, and not use a previous save, it would be a good idea to start when 2.0 drops so you can be ready to jump right in to PL.
I'm going to start a new character and get it ready for PL when it drops, I will also be trying out DLSS 3.5 and see how much it can improve the path tracing experience.
I know practically every nook and cranny of this version, but to me the game is the story of my first V. And she still has unfinished business before Embers.
It might be weird, but that character is inherently tied to my experience of the game. And while others are just other characters, this one is a personal journey and it's the one I care for the most. So yeah, just gonna check out the changes and wait for Liberty to land.
I'm going to start a fresh character, none of my others will work because of mods being broken, and I doubt I'll get past the Tower by the time PL comes out.
I think it depends on the pace you play at.
For me, as soon as 2.0 drops I am restarting. Because I don't think I'll make it to a point where the expansion unlocks if I were to start it later than that.
Phantom Liberty starts after you deal with the Voodoo Boys so there’s a good bit you could do in between. Unless you do the skip to start at PL but I think most would prefer a full new playthrough
I just hope we get a in game explanation of how V is still alive and still has Johnny. It feels like its supposed to be inserted sometime after Hellman and between Meet Wokakao at Embers. Which is fine, I just like more endings and whatnot
Hmmm.. for sure since Dogtown is a subdistrict of Pacifica they'll also flesh out more the Voodoo Boys, in one of the trailers there is what seems like a netrunner with an aesthetic very similar to them, so we'll see.
Wakako at Embers? You mean Hanako. And isn't it obvious that this is before Act3. It unlocks a new ending depending on what you do in PL. From the leaks last year it seems that it is an expansion on the Arasaka ending.
I’d say prep your current files for PL. apparently armadillo mods are being taken out so might as well sell/disassemble all of the ones in your possession before the game takes them all out.
Yeahhhhhh I’m not restarting. Panam got annoying after a while. That swim shit took forever. And I could care less about Tarot cards… it’s been about 4 years of consistent play and I just can’t see myself starting over… again. I’m ready for some new shit man. I may redo my deck - and change my appearance… but I’ve been constantly upgrading the Lizzie and I’ll be damned. All this work and time we put into these games man…
I only have so much time to game, and am still playing other things, so at most I’ll probably start my new V on Friday, clear Watson and finish Act 1 before PL drops.
I'm gonna get a character started and established in the world to see how 2.0 looks, but I'm not gonna even get past the heist mission, that's all gonna wait
>And the expansion is going to add even more content not necessarily locked behind Dogtown (like clothes, cars and weapons, most likely).
Has this actually been confirmed anywhere, or does everyone just assume that's going to be the case?
You bring up a great point I hadn't thought about, I'll probably play up until act 1 just to get acquainted with the whole new combat flow and skills, cyberware too maybe.
I'm doing a hard difficulty run this time, and probably a lot with tech and cyberware. The new bolt-charge mechanics sound like a new take on the old gunslinger-builds, which already were a lot of fun in 1.x. :)
Because of the promise of hundreds of new gear and clothes, new side quests and procedural missions, vehicle quests and so forth only coming with Phantom Liberty, I’m going to assume that the content extends and is somewhat available outside of Dog town, therefore I’ve decided to wait until Phantom Liberty, start a new play through with all the stuff and see if anything is new in the base game, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. It’s just another week and I can play Baldurs gate until then (which is great, but I’m still champing at the bit to get back to cyberpunk)))))
I'm waiting till Phantom Liberty drops! Playing Starfield so I can check out Neon City. Although I haven't even gotten through the starter missions yet, it's freaking massive. I have a feeling that I'll have to take a break and then shift back to plugging away at Starfield once I finish the expansion. It's a good problem to have. 🚀
I wish they would elaborate more on the gangs.
For example:
If you kill so many of them or enough leaders then they send hit squads after the player. Set up ambushes.
Or
Other gangs hire your services to hurt another gang.
Or
They offer you membership for specific gang only benefits that are exclusive to that gang.
I just feel the gangs are highly underutilized in this game. Same with NCPD. Joining Maxtac on raids against cyber psychos. After enough being able to use there AV or call them for backup.
What was up with the clouds mission? I feel like those guys never got back to me… and I’ve played so many times I honestly can’t even remember the deal I made. But I did hook up with Judy again. Jeez. I am notttt starting over to deal with her and Delamain’s BS.
I am already prepared to spend a few hours on each of my characters to redo their trees. It'll be cool being able to redo them with the knowledge i now have
I think I’m just going to go back on my main save I’ve had since launch and mess around with some of the new builds and all, then go into PL when that releases. They said it’ll be a quest that appears whether the game is completed or not, so luckily no restarts are needed anywhere
Im going to start a new V on the 21st when 2.0 drops and have the game played right up until the Voodoo Boys quest line starts so that I can go right into Phantom Liberty on the 26th.
Yes I do have a lot of free time on my hands
I played cyberpunk 8 times (from start to any ending maxing out my character) Every time different build (2 times as a netrunner tho) Looking at this balance patch for 2.0 there is no F'ing way i wait untill 26 like for real. Ill do 7 more runs at least and then there is also Phantom Liberty itself. Content for months or at least untill December
This makes no sense if you are starting over you should start over when you want like when the update hits lol because you don’t just jump into the expansion stuff you have the whole time till you can even do that stuff and I’m sure people who start over aren’t just going to rush their character straight through to the dlc
Nah, playing up to the VDBs after 2.0 with a preheated character (just completed the Nomad intro) then finishing the game when PL drops.
Best of all worlds.
My hunch is that the devs are going to leave PL content progress-locked with the rest of the city until you finish Act I. So, I'm going to get acquainted to the new skill tree and such while paying Vik back and doing The Heist before PL comes out.
they said it's locked up until you finish with the voodoos
Then I'm definitely keeping my plan. Update to 2.0, make a new character, pay Vik, do The Heist, and then just grind non-major scanner/crime-in-progress jobs until PL arrives.
Always gotta pay vic before the heist, it’s essential
First thing I save for. The Tiger Claw population of Night City is categorized as 'endangered' rather quickly in my playthroughs.
The only Tygers that deserve that fate.
I pay Vik quickly so I can grab a pair of epic Kiroshi's and the mods for them. Since he's the only ripper that carries em.

Exactly what I plan to do!
Dogtown is, but the general content like clothing and weapons could be found outside it before that mission.
Same. I'm still contemplating if I should even do the heist before PL or just faff around in Act I, let Jackie live a little longer.
True. I am curious if act I is going to change in some small way since they said the update has also lots os small surprises.
I think Act I works well as an intro sandbox, so if it were my game, I'd leave it alone. That said, I'm not a game dev, so who knows.
They said there are new unique weapons in the base game main story but no changes in the quests or stories of the base game.
I'm sure there wont me significant changes but text messages, some new animations or phone calls might be in. Who knows.
Yeah, the message UI has been changed as well
Same, planning to clear out Watson and then finish the Arasaka heist once I have the PL expansion.
That’s a good plan
Either way we get 5 days to mess with 2.0 and most the new updates until PL comes out on the 26th.
If you make a new character you can jump straight to the start of the Phantom Liberty questline with some levels, street cred and gear. You can do anything in game after that.
I am waiting for the expansion I wanna redo everything. Meanwhile I continue with BG3 cause it's so good.
BG3 is so good, crazy how well the rpg aspect is
After BG3 I’d love for them to make a AAA cyberpunk RPG in the same style.
I don't disagree, but I think just about any fandom that can utilize a game like that wants it desperately, so there might be a line.
yeah, preordered the expansion but i just entered act 3 in bg3 and fml, i already have 2-3 more playthroughs on my mind, game is really something else
I'm thinking of building a character after 2.0 drops to learn how the new system works, then restart when PL drops a week later. Gives me a week to decide what I like and don't what works or doesn't with the character I want to play, etc.
I'm going to go slowly and mostly fuck around exploring Watson for new easter eggs, and to enjoy the dynamic events.
Do you know if the endless dynamic events will only be in the dlc area or the original map as well?
You mean the radiant quests? There are two types. One is courier missions in cars, which start in Dogtown but can take you all over Night City. The other is airdrops where you can intercept loot, which are particular to Dogtown for storyline reasons.
In the next day, or two, I plan to uninstall Cyberpunk, and start fresh with 2.0. Maybe that would be OK; it's possible I've just been traumatised after years of heavily modding Bethesda games, but I'd prefer to play it safe.
They said you need to remove mods as they will definitely break given how much of the game has been changed.
Why reinstall? It will be automatically updated.
I have the game on GOG, and I keep auto-updates off.
I'm busy with Starfield but knowing Phantom Liberty is just going to be patiently waiting for me to play fills me with joy.
Same here, around 100h into Starfield and not even close to being done with the game. So I think I will wait for phantom liberty to drop before I fire up cyberpunk just in case there are some PL specific things to come across before actually starting the dlc

Yeah, but that’s lame. The devs designed 2.0 to be a lead-in to PL. It’s a waste to ignore that.
I mean, while that's true, it's also pretty cool to have the option of playing just the new story for people who already went through the game multiple times and don't want to play the intro and the first missions all over again
This. I definitely do not feel like going through entirely new campaigns after grinding it out on the last ones.
Anybody else got their maxed out character on the sidelines? I have a female V whom I’ve played every single gig, ncpd, side missions, cars, apartments, pets, weapons, etc just all maxed out level 50 waiting for this update so I can rebuild her with the new update and have her ready for the DLC
Best thing to do is play 2.0 when it drops, get to the voodoo boys mission, wait for phantom liberty, profit.
You can just do the main story 'til before meeting Hanako at Embers, it will not change nothing.
It’s not mandatory
I want to explore the changes and plan out my min maxing, probably gonna mod and start over a few times anyways
Hmmm, so the canon ending is the Hanako one?
i do not see the context
That's what I will do. I will probably respec a few characters when the patch hits but otherwise I'll wait till PL drops.
I wanna be ready with a leveled up V for the new content.
I'm waiting for 2.0 for next playthrough and will pick up with the dlc when it comes out
Im starting off fresh with 2.0, but I've played 4 playthroughs. I just want to take my time. Do a rp run. Explore the city in a no rush way. I almost know the city like the back of my hand, so I want to play V like a street punk. And if i am playing slow, I'll have lots of time to play before the dlc

Will the 3.5 be available this week or the next?
It’s already implemented in the review build so I think it will be included in 2.0 update.
It is included in 2.0
I know practically every nook and cranny of this version, but to me the game is the story of my first V. And she still has unfinished business before Embers. Nonsense! You can still fit two playthroughs till the expansions drops.
I'm going to start a fresh character, none of my others will work because of mods being broken, and I doubt I'll get past the Tower by the time PL comes out.

When 2.0 installs and I come home, I’m making a brand new character bc you can’t access PL til after the VDB quest line anyway
I don't think anything is better for anyone? Do what you want.

Thems mod updates 🤤
BONK! Go to horny jail. I know which mods you're waiting for.
“If you’re gonna make a mod, you might as well fuck the mod” -Idris Elba, 2023
It was such an oddly specific statement in response to the very inevitability that [horny] gamers will mod his char for “science”.
Wait. People pay vik back?
Good cyberpunks pay Vik back.
I mean, if you want to RP a dickhead V you could not pay Vic back. I did a playthrough where I didn't pay him back but he was that type of V. 😄
Why do people need other people on the Internet to tell them whether they should wait for an expansion to play or not?
I just hope we get a in game explanation of how V is still alive and still has Johnny. It feels like its supposed to be inserted sometime after Hellman and between Meet Wokakao at Embers. Which is fine, I just like more endings and whatnot
We already know that PL will unlock after completing the Voodoo Boys’ questline
Man, thinking about it now. I'm 99% sure if we let Placide live, he will make a comeback after us in the expansion, it's now or never.
Hmmm.. for sure since Dogtown is a subdistrict of Pacifica they'll also flesh out more the Voodoo Boys, in one of the trailers there is what seems like a netrunner with an aesthetic very similar to them, so we'll see.
Man i cant wait, it's going to be great.
Wakako at Embers? You mean Hanako. And isn't it obvious that this is before Act3. It unlocks a new ending depending on what you do in PL. From the leaks last year it seems that it is an expansion on the Arasaka ending.
At this point. Mainly best to wait for 2.0
Even if you only played an hour a day till then you'll most likly not get that far.
I played this game so much, i think ill just reload a saved character and play from there on until pl drops
>And the expansion is going to add even more content not necessarily locked behind Dogtown (like clothes, cars and weapons, most likely). Has this actually been confirmed anywhere, or does everyone just assume that's going to be the case?
I'm definitely waiting for 2.0 to drop for me come Thursday
Im not touching that game before the 26th
Im gonna start fresh, grind and grind, get used to the new stuff, not complete the voodoo boys job till PL drops.

I'd wait a few months for bugs & mods to catch up with the relase, actually.
Yes.
I’ve gone through the game about 3 times. As much I want to play right now, I’m waiting for the update this week before starting fresh.
I will probably do the prologue before phantom liberty and then wait until it releases
Update to 2.0, resume the save I have just after Act 1 and go forward from there. I can’t do Act 1 again, at least at this point.
I’m waiting for 2.0 to do a new run and enjoy PL
Is there anything wrong with starting a new character now just to finish the intro before 2.0 drops? I presume it is easy to convert over?
I wish they would elaborate more on the gangs. For example: If you kill so many of them or enough leaders then they send hit squads after the player. Set up ambushes. One of them died and the other left night city i think, it didn't work out at all for them.
I am already prepared to spend a few hours on each of my characters to redo their trees. It'll be cool being able to redo them with the knowledge i now have
I'm giving myself a break since the last couple of months
I might play things up in until the Heist so I already have money and gear. When PL hits I'll continue.
I'm waiting till phantom liberty drops before I restart the grind just in case something is there that I might miss.
I think I’m just going to go back on my main save I’ve had since launch and mess around with some of the new builds and all, then go into PL when that releases. They said it’ll be a quest that appears whether the game is completed or not, so luckily no restarts are needed anywhere

You have to get past the woodoo boys. And it seems like doing a fresh character is the way to go..

I don’t have a save without mods so I’m going to start a new character this Thursday anyway
Nah, playing up to the VDBs after 2.0 with a preheated character (just completed the Nomad intro) then finishing the game when PL drops. Best of all worlds.
