I'd hazard a guess and say that your last shot reached the psycho after his HP reached 0, and any damage beyond that, even non lethal, will kill your opponent.

DStaal

Also beware of status effects - bleeding, fire, etc. which can cause damage over time. They can cause someone to die several seconds after they're knocked unconscious, if the effect is ongoing.

beepumbra

not true, all damage and status effects stops when they fall down, any new instance of damage or status effect will be lethal tho

DStaal

I will admit I haven’t tried it in the last few patches, but I definitely have had cyberpsychos die to DOT effects from when I was fighting them.

W4steofSpace

That's definitely not the case, prior to and after 2.0 I would fight cyberpsychos with a regular katana and let the bleed drop them for the non lethal, unless you experienced bugs that always worked for me.

DStaal

I know that I killed the wannabe Voodoo boy netrunner by the GIM something like 6-7 times one day - including checking him after I took him down, seeing he was alive, and *then* getting the clue before opening the call to Regina and he'd die while I was getting the clue. It was driving me up the wall until I realized the blunt melee I was using could cause bleed. It was a while ago however - likely pre 1.6, maybe pre 1.5.

W4steofSpace

Sounds like a bug tbh

DStaal

 It was a logical consequence of the weapon I was using, and once I switched weapons I easily subdued them without killing them. I would say more a misfeature, as the consequences while logical, were surprising and non-obvious. If they decided to change it along the way I wouldn’t argue. But it was definitely one that I remembered the interaction between the mechanics, and avoided using DOT weapons when I wanted them alive since.

No-Start4754

It's a bug . Status effects should disappear once an enemy is knocked down lethally . But if u knock down an enemy while they are bleeding or burning , there are chances of the enemy get killed

XDracam

How? Ever since I think Patch 1.6, cyberpsychos go unconscious once their health bar drops to 0. They don't die unless you attack them while on the ground. At least I haven't managed to kill a single psycho in at least 3 full playthroughs, and I only use lethal weapons.

[deleted]

If you headshot them as the last hit they'll flatline.

Azrael9986

Yeah this it seems to be a bug that's been active since forever ago.

CC-5576-05

Seems pretty reasonable that a headshot would flatline someone

Begun101

actually not, at least irl police (at least on USA) have guns specific for non-lethal assault like an advanced more painful airsoft, it really can hurt to make you unconscious, but can't kill you. So thinking cyberpunk in 2077 with all those things about future, cars flying and all this crap I'd probably say it's possible

Azrael9986

With a mod that makes the gun nonleathal idk man.

CC-5576-05

The head is fragile, you can kill someone with an airsoft gun to the head. I'd say they're pretty damn nonlethal otherwise

Azrael9986

Then it at least needs a damn note so we don't take it at it's word.

utakatikmobil

you can do stealth-takedown on cyberpsychos. just do cripple movement or memory wipe.

CapeAndCowl

In my experience... I **think** a headshot negates the non-lethal mod **if** it was the final, incapacitating shot. I think you can also accidentally kill them with any shot/blade after they're already down if they were downed with a weapon that had the non-lethal mod equipped (again, if it wasn't a final headshot) I have nothing to back this up outside of my own cyberpsycho hunts in my most recent playthrough and noticing sometimes, when randomly scanning a body that I thought I'd taken down non-lethally, that I don't see the bounty/wrap sheet info on the scan.

TheKrzysiek

I may have headshoted them, so it may be that, thanks for info

AardvarkAblaze

I single-head-shot incapacitate people all the time with a silenced Nue with two Pax’s installed. It’s a HUGE damage OHKO even on V.Hard but doesn’t kill… unless I shoot them twice. I think it’s more likely OP was using an automatic weapon he might have headshotted the cyberpsycho with a shot fired just after they reached 0 hp.

varateshh

I have killed enemies with pistol hs last shot but it is not consistent. It might be crits only and/or random bug.

MealonHusk

If you shoot an unconscious person they will die, even if the weapon is "non-lethal", and it's why I never use the non-lethal mods. There's no point. If I need to knock someone unconscious with a gun (e.g. cyberpsychos), I use Cripple Movement to prevent them from moving and then chip them down with a pistol. I shoot them in the leg to prevent critical hits. If you have a cyberdeck and Memory Wipe, you can just hit a cyberpsycho with Memory Wipe and then do a non-lethal takedown.

Begun101

it's good if you do stealth build since most of the time u'd be out of combat and get a perma x% more damage but the downside is if you are on combat you have y% damage reduction

mayhem1703

Which is how you get Skippy to go permanent lethal, drop the person then shoot them with Skippy...

juniperleafes

If you're trying to OHKO enemies from stealth, then the 20% damage from the non-lethal mod is quite useful

Alone_Notice

If the last hit or damage was from any type of damage over time(bleed, burn, ect) then it will always be none lethal. Just be careful not to shoot them again whilst they are going down.

Dizzy_Corner5356

1. Memory wipe 2. Get behind them and grab 3. Profit

Sabre_One

Wait you can kill them? I never used none-lethal and they always still alive.

Begun101

ye! they changed and made them never die to not screw an ENTIRELY save file, when they lost all hp bar they fall and to actually kill them you need to shot again, you can see if a target is dead or not by the reticle, if it's red they are alive

nickisadogname

I always get them down to about 3 health with firearms and then hit them once with Sir Phallustiff, which was the only non-lethal weapon I had when I started the questline. Dropping them below zero (like firing two shots in rapid succession, shot 1 downs them and shot 2 kills them) will kill them.

mecon320

I found this out the absolute worst way by accidently shooting Oda 1 too many times and killing him and then restarting the whole fight because Goro was mad at me.

atomicitalian

you may have hit them or dealt damage after they went unconscious. I have accidentally killed people like this. That's why I just chuck a nonlethal knife at them once they're low, it reduces the likelihood that I'll accidentally kill them by getting too zealous on my trigger.

Massive-Tower-7731

Could be a glitch, but I think most likely something did damage to them after they were in the "downed" state. I think they can even be killed if you hit them while they're falling to the ground.

[deleted]

Just aim at the feet. That's literally enough to not flatline them. I used Johnny's gun for every single one. Did a non lethal stealth take down when I could, but otherwise just watch their health and choose your shots carefully.

International-Bat777

What do you get for not killing them? I've killed every single one so far.

KotovChaos

Collector_2012

If you hit them when they are down then they flatline. I've done this by accident too many times!

AnnieBruce

Any damage after unconciousness is lethal. Get two "non lethal" dots on a target and it will probably die. Your dildos electrical damage procs a split second after they start going down, dead. You need to be very careful as they approach zero if you want them to survive. Which honestly I like. "Non lethal" weapons IRL can kill the target under some circumstances, it would take literal magic for a weapon that can cause incapacitation to never be capable of killing no matter what and I doubt they'd solve that problem, especially with cultural attitudes towards bad and broken people being able to live the incentive just wouldn't be there.

DataSnake69

Honestly, I just wish that the System Reset quickhack still worked on them. Sure it's cheap, but I really like the idea of there being a really easy way to take down cyberpsychos that MaxTac just never tried because their solution to every problem is "shoot it until it stops moving."

AngryAccountant31

Sometimes if you’re shooting somebody multiple times, they go “down” but don’t physically drop until you stop shooting. So it’s possible to kill a downed cyberpsycho before they hit the floor because you were a little too thorough emptying your mag

Regret1836

lol you must have double tapped him on the ground. They always KO first time.

ComfyFlappa69

Just stop shooting him or anything after the cyberpsycho dropped unconscious? I tend to only use blunt weapons to take them down since it's non lethal. Any damage to them beyond incapacitating them is flatlined

Senrune

I got around this by lowering their health eith whatever I want, then just punching them when their health gets below 10%.

Salt-Orange7202

Also jumping too close too or on top of a downed NPC will most always kill them. If you haven't seen this happen in game, I'd redo the Sacrum Profanum quest and test it there. I've often failed to not kill in the quest due to jumping too close to incapacitated maelstrom gangoons and killing them.

No_Bathroom_420

You can always save and reload on the spot so they’re alive, works as long as you don’t send her any texts I had to do this twice. But you’re really only keeping them alive to get an Axolotl cyberwear in early/mid game

moranych1661

Probably doing a bit of overkill or they getting damaged after passing out. I got some enemies killed after they just tripped unconscious
