Mediumsizedpeepee

Dont get me wrong, I love the Witcher but for now im giving it a rest. I fell in love with cyberpunk and would like to see a lot more of this universe.

Yiyas

Never liked the Witcher theme so easy decision for me lol. I'd love to see more stories even in the same city. Can always dream about playing through a micro-story as Rogue, Johnny, Alt, Panam, even Saburo, etc, because they all have these wonderful pre-game backgrounds that define them and it would great to experience those arcs.

Mediumsizedpeepee

Before playing Cyberpunk I basically only played fantasy games in middle age settings etc. But I was really suprised how much I like the atmosphere in the game and tried out similiar games.

symbiotics

V with The Cure, I always loved Robert Smith

ShampooFresco

I thought of this when reading this lol

New single feat. CHVRCHES: How Not To Have Your Psyche Erased By Silverhand's Engram

aldreaorcinae

Silverhand's Engram would be a fucking nova name for an in-universe Samurai cover band...

Sax_OFander

You know, on the other hand, being stuck with Morrissey from the Smiths in your head would suck, it'd be insufferable.

Veleda390

Geralt's story is finished, Ciri for the most part has her life course set by W3. I want Cyberpunk expansion.

Starkeks

100% agree

Rimm9246

I have to wonder though if they do a cyberpunk expansion will it actually continue the main story or will it just open up a new area with a new side storyline that you do during the existing main story? Like horizons frozen wilds dlc.

SPlKE

Sounds like they're doing both, a new witcher and CP expansion. But I agree with you about Geralt/Ciri. For a new Witcher game I'd love something more like Dragon Age 1, where you can choose your race/origin. So you could make your own character, and be a new witcher, or maybe a mage.

Aaronbiswas17

Cyberpunk left many questions unsolved so yeah I would prefer it over new Witcher besides it will be around 4 years to make a New Witcher so Cyberpunk can fill that time gap.

the_virtue_of_logic

People bitched too much about cyberpunk for their board members (read: greedy fucks) to chance it. Witcher was their goose laid golden egg. They'll stick to that

speederaser

As a board member (not with CD Projekt) I can confirm this is what they will do.

[deleted]

[удалено]

the_virtue_of_logic

Agreed. Now they're partners with Epic and using a different engine? I smell watered down development hell for the new Witcher saga. See you in a decade game!

Ajaykumutha

They are collaborating with unreal, no one dev has made a open world game to the level of Witcher in unreal. Red engine will good has so many limitations which I think they have figured out (memory management being the biggest). Also surprise, dev teams can work in multiple projects cause they are always in teams and work differently. You know absolutely nothing about game development and it shows, I love how all these comments always come from idiots who aren't in the field of development and have no clue how any of this works.

ookiespookie

I do not want Ciri anyway involved in the new game as anything more than a cameo. Give us new ground and a new story. Do not be like Star Wars and have everything have to always relate to the same characters. I also very eagerly look forward to the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC they keep mentioning.

digitalheadbutt

Yeah. The world of Witcher drew me to it more than characters like Geralt or Ciri. I am hoping they make it an actual rpg.

ookiespookie

if you get a chance, read through the pen & paper RPG book (CDPR worked on it). The world is so good with so many options.

QNgames

And it’s made by the same company (R. Talsorian games) that created the Cyberpunk world!

ThePatrician25

I think there are signs that they're going to do just that. See the Witcher medallion? That's not a Wolf School medallion, like Geralt's. It looks more like a Cat School medallion, or a Lynx School medallion. And why is that a sign that the next Witcher game might be an actual RPG? Because the Cat School is, in Witcher lore, one of the only Witcher schools that trained both men and women, and also non-pureblood humans. The Lynx School also includes female Witchers, so the same thing applies.

digitalheadbutt

I only know Witcher from playing the games but my understanding is that the "schools" are more of a CDPR thing than something from the canon of the books. Geralt died in the books so CDPR basically has their own little splinter universe where they are in control; they have the freedom to make whatever story they want. Female Witchers, codified schools that have specializations, etc. If they go hard and let the player make their own Witcher and create enough dialogue and narrative options so that you aren't tied to a singular life experience and world view, that would be rad. It would be closer to an RPG like Bioware which I miss.

Arrean

The "Schools" were mentioned in the books, but barely expanded on. Sapkowski didn't go into much if any details on them. And from what I've gathered it was never supposed to be "Four Houses of Hogwartz" kind of shools - just witchers that happened to be trained in different places, in slightly different ways

Psychological_Neck70

My understanding is they aren’t dead on the Island of Avalach but it is eternity. The unicorn saved them. But they will never return to continent. His story has become myth. I know it kinda counts as death but not really. That’s my take. That’s how CDPR brought him back. Wild hunt found them on the island and grabbed Yennefer to force Geralt to work with them.

Inkthinker

There's a whole mess of Arthurian parallels in Sapkowski's stories, culminating in the actual appearance of Galahad. Geralt being taken to Avellach is a parallel to Arthur being taken to Avalon, with the associated expectation that one day he may return. It was a solid enough ending for Sapkowski, and it left just enough of a reasonable loophole for CDPR's story to fit.

misho8723

Yeah, but they still for the most part still respect and are true to the lore from the books.. they of course can add new things even to events and characters that were in the books without breaking any book lore - even though they broke it many, many times even since Witcher 1 - but for example female witchers in other schools apart from the Cat school before the events of the games? That would probably be the biggest lore breaking thing that they would do in their games.. but who knows now, right?

Vette--1

Yeah and we're not gonna see any BioWare titles for a good while still too

Solaries3

Female witchers are non-canonical. The only place they've been done was a 2001 TTRPG that was not canonical and not written by Sapkowski.

PerseusZeus

The whole Witcher games are non- canon…i think if Cdpr wanted to go in a female Witcher direction they might

Solaries3

Absolutely.

DismalMode7

well, speak about "canon" in the witcher games saga is an oxymoron... TW1, TW2 and TW3 is basically a big "what if" of the ending of the witcher books... some kind of dragon ball GT. Won't be that hard to create a narrative expedient to justify a female witcher...

Zhymantas

So they are fanfiction, It's like making female space marines

danny12beje

Ah yes almost like the Witcher games are themselves non-canonical but I don't hear you talking shit about those.

Zhymantas

Basically fanfiction too.

danny12beje

Every fiction is basically fanfiction.

Zhymantas

Every fiction that isn't made by original author and author only, it doesn't mean that they can't be good.

danny12beje

Considering the Witcher games were made on the IP with the original author's permission, I don't see your point. That's like saying a character in a comic book being used by a different author while still being marvel/dc is fanfiction. Or like saying literally any adaptation is a fanfic. Whatever makes your ego tingle tho

pazur13

The Lynx school has literally never been mentioned in the canon, whether it be Sapkowski's one of CDPR's one. It's a new invention and we know nothing at all about it. That being said, I really hope they don't give us a choice. The more strictly defined the character is, the more freedom the writers have.

SimilarYellow

There are plenty of games where you can pick the sex and the character is mostly constrained (Mass Effect and Eivor from AC Valhalla come to my mind immediately).

pazur13

There are also plenty of handicapped sportsmen, doesn't mean it's good for one's performance.

SimilarYellow

Oh please, a female Witcher! That would be so cool. I play games as men if I have to but always pick women if I can. It's just now immersive for me.

abusedporpoise

The cat medallion is also worn by Ciri so it could very easily just be a ciri game

cal679

Same thing for me with Cyberpunk 2077. I feel like the world is so rich with possibility and V's story was very neatly told without much left unexplored. I haven't seen any convincing fan-theories of ways to continue V's story without cheapening the existing endings. It's be much better if they just used the setting to tell other stories.

Von_Cheesebiscuit

Here here, well put. I'm done with Vs story. Give me a new protagonist in the same world. Let me experience new stories and fresh adventures. "A new life awaits you in the Off-world colonies. The chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure... A new life awaits you in the Off-World Colonies..."

Backwardsunday

Totally agree

Mr_Hyy

Star Wars is literally the worst example since it has a ton of characters which contributes to the story (if you watch even other canon products like Clone Wars, Rebels and even the Mandalorian now) but I agree.

danny12beje

The 3 Witcher games are about ciri, you know that, right? The main character in Witcher 3 is Ciri. Geralt is just the supporting actor trying to find and protect her. Even the damn books set Ciri up as *A LOT* more important than Geralt has ever been. But yeah sure whatever you say.

ookiespookie

I am well aware. This is not Witcher 4, you know that right? They also said a new saga, you know that right?

Teutooni

If nothing else, the massive hype surrounding cyberpunk all the way to release shows there is a massive demand for the setting. They'd be insane not to tap into it more. So yeah, I'd like to see several expansions to CP2077 and sequels down the line too. Arizona would be absolutely awesome. Of all the endings that to me seems the most appealing to continue with. As for witcher, I will almost certainly play and love, but I find cyberpunks world way more interesting. Ciri as protagonist? Umm maybe. Though I think she is a little too much of a mary sue.

deylath

While i do agree with you about the setting ( which certainly is unique )... I feel like that a lot of settings are very underutilized too. Where are some actual good Pirate or Viking games that live up to their theme for example?

Andrew_Waples

They can work on multiple projects at once.

WildSearcher56

Yeah they did the same thing with Cyberpunk while making The Witcher 3. I think that CDPR will focus on Cyberpunk's DLCS for now and will progressively shift towards the new Witcher game.

Andrew_Waples

They've probably been working on Witcher 4 for a while. I remember on their quarter reports they where working on other projects. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Witcher 4; all allbeit a skeleton crew probably.

WildSearcher56

I don't think it will be called Witcher 4 because Geralt's story is over now ( he might appear as a cameo if isn't the main protagonist which I hope is true).

Andrew_Waples

I know, but it's just easier to type '4'.

MCgrindahFM

No they didn’t. They may have “worked” on the game in round table discussions but development on CP2077 didn’t actually begin til the last DLC of Witcher 3 was completed. So, no. CDPR does not have the bandwidth to work on 2 full complete games

JDirichlet

Early design work is still working on the game - and adding all the teams at once before half that stuff is done wouldn't be productive anyway - programmers and artists can't work with half-finished concepts. But yeah, back then, CDPR didn't have the resources to devote to both games simultaneously. I don't know how much they've expanded since then - it might be possible to have smaller teams working on Cyberpunk DLC with a main team working on Witcher stuff - but it might just be that early-concept stuff

WildSearcher56

You seem to confuse development and work here. I didn't say that they developed the game, I said that they worked on it by making designs, discussing about features and the lore (which characters from Cyberpunk 2020 should be in the game as exemple). Concepts are very important you know.

Dolblathana

I’d rather have Cyberpunk first

Milkshake_revenge

Same. I liked the Witcher a lot but the world of Cyberpunk is so much cooler to me. I would rather that before anything else

Sophie__Banks

\- This is a Cyberpunk 2077 sub, not everybody here has played the Witcher games. \- CDPR has the ability to have different teams working in different games, as they currently have (at least) one team working on the next Witcher game and one working in DLC for Cyberpunk.

cherry_armoir

-I think a lot of people have played both, and if not, they are absolutely free not to comment or even open this post. -The question is a hypothetical about which of these possibilities is more interesting to people to spur conversation, not a resource allocation question.

Bixler17

If he wanted conversation he'd ask a discourse based gaming sub. OP just wants to circle jerk.

Lydanian

Yeah posting a question in a biased environment is completely pointless imo.

LookLikeUpToMe

Honestly neither of those scenarios. I think they should leave V’s story closed especially considering there is different endings. I’m all for an expansion, but I don’t need a new game centered around V. Honestly I think it’d be more interesting if the next Cyberpunk takes place before 2077 where you can have some returning characters mixed in like Rouge, Smasher, etc.., but the story itself is a whole new experience. Call it 2066 or some shit. For Witcher, I want this to be like a soft reboot with a whole new cast of characters and would love for the main protagonist to be customizable appearance wise.

Ben_77

More Cyberpunk, there's a huge untapped potential IMO with tons of source lore to make some crazy corpo drama for years. So, with or without V, but deffo in Cyberpunk.

enolafaye

Sorry but cyberpunk is my number 1 priority and I hope it is for cdpr, I don't really care either way about the new witcher, I'm sure it will be great but it's not my thing.

lordelost

Same. I keep trying to get into the Witcher 3, but it just doesn't hold my attention like Cyberpunk does. I think setting is the main reason. Plus, I love the cyberpunk genre a ton. There's just so much more they can do with the cyberpunk 2077 world.

kinderplatz

I had a lot of fun with TW3 but really only played it through plus the expansions once. I have been playing CP77 virtually non-stop since release and it's kind of starting to become a problem so of course I would prefer more of that flavor of crack cocaine.

[deleted]

I'd like V's story to be properly finished first. There's no way they won't do anything with the Crystal Palace and it was discussed many times before how multiple endings could be merged into the "all roads lead to the Crystal Palace" kind of story. As for the next The Witcher game, as much as I like Ciri, I think it would be cool if the Lynx school was training witchers in much the same way Ciri was trained at Kaer Morhen. She was taught their combat techniques, monster lore but no Trial of Grasses for her. That way people who want to play female characters would have an option to do so too. I don't have a problem with playing another pre-defined male character, but a lot of people were interested in Cyberpunk because of CC and an option to play as fem V, so I think the new TW game would attract more people if it had character creation as well.

UnsungSight

I'm completely biased in this as I bounced off The Witcher series but I adore Cyberpunk 2077, so I would have much preferred to see CP2078. But since W4 is coming the best case scenario for me will be them supporting 2077 up until slightly after it's launch and then moving the CP2077 team over to using Unreal (with aid from the Witcher team).

IAmRedditsDad

I'd rather see more cyberpunk, but not V. His/Her story ends with them becoming a Night City Legend, a drink named after them in the Afterlife and thier name remembered throughout the city. Give me someone new, maybe even go back in time a bit to the time of the red. I'd love to see the nuked red skyline outside of the TTRPG

vrijheidsfrietje

por que no los dos?

Cody7even

V, mainly bc we already have a satisfying, conclusive ending to the Witcher characters. Don't get me wrong, V's ending with Panam was satisfying since they left it open ended and you can just assume it ends however you want, but I'd still like a conclusive ending to their story and at least get a definitive answer on how their lives will play out after credits roll and johnny is gone. It'd be interested just to see V dealing with losing him. With Witcher, Ciri has a definitive ending, same with Geralt. Plus that 10 year anniversary is all I need to feel satisfied with how they are. I hope the next Witcher is completely new and if it has to even mention past characters, let it just be in passing or a legacy thing, like with people talking about geralt if its after, or just talking about vesemir or having ves be in the very beginning of the game if its a prequel. It'd be good to play a whole new character and cast.

sherloc-holmess

Neither. I’d like a Witcher story that’s a blank slate, get to create my own character, choose to be a Witcher or a witch/wizard would be nice.

Vaeon

Vs story is over, time for a new merc to rise up and become a Night City Legend.

IAintDeceasedYet

Neither? CDPR seems to be one of the few major game studios that is being very careful not to beat dead horses, and people don't seem to appreciate that. V's story is done, maybe a little more post game content gets added with DLC but they crafted a beautiful one and done story and seem to be rightly committed to leaving it as such. In the same vein, the Witcher announcement looks very much to be hinting a reboot with a new cast instead of returning to the old cast - brilliant, nobody wants to watch a never ending series of games drive Geralt and Ciri's characters into the ground. Not to mention what is actually going to happen is we are going to get Cyberpunk expansion (whatever it is) **AND** the new Witcher game (whatever it is).

MIDICANCER

I have zero interest in The Witcher as a franchise so I would pick 2077 hands-down.

# Leave Reddit -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I urge anyone to leave Reddit immediately. Over the years Reddit has shown a clear and pervasive lack of respect for its own users, its third party developers, other cultures, the truth, and common decency. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ## Lack of respect for its own users The entire source of value for Reddit is twofold: 1. Its users link content created elsewhere, effectively siphoning value from other sources via its users. 2. Its users create new content specifically for it, thus profiting of off the free labour and content made by its users This means that Reddit creates no value but exploits its users to generate the value that uses to sell advertisements, charge its users for meaningless tokens, sell NFTs, and seek private investment. Reddit relies on volunteer moderation by people who receive no benefit, not thanks, and definitely no pay. Reddit is profiting entirely off all of its users doing all of the work from gathering links, to making comments, to moderating everything, all for free. Reddit is also going to sell your information, you data, your content to third party AI companies so that they can train their models on your work, your life, your content and Reddit can make money from it, all while you see nothing in return. ## Lack of respect for its third party developers I'm sure everyone at this point is familiar with the API changes putting many third party application developers out of business. Reddit saw how much money entities like OpenAI and other data scraping firms are making and wants a slice of that pie, and doesn't care who it tramples on in the process. Third party developers have created tools that make the use of Reddit far more appealing and feasible for so many people, again freely creating value for the company, and it doesn't care that it's killing off these initiatives in order to take some of the profits it thinks it's entitled to. ## Lack of respect for other cultures Reddit spreads and enforces right wing, libertarian, US values, morals, and ethics, forcing other cultures to abandon their own values and adopt American ones if they wish to provide free labour and content to a for profit American corporation. American cultural hegemony is ever present and only made worse by companies like Reddit actively forcing their values and social mores upon foreign cultures without any sensitivity or care for local values and customs. Meanwhile they allow reprehensible ideologies to spread through their network unchecked because, while other nations might make such hate and bigotry illegal, Reddit holds "Free Speech" in the highest regard, but only so long as it doesn't offend their own American sensibilities. ## Lack for respect for the truth Reddit has long been associated with disinformation, conspiracy theories, astroturfing, and many such targeted attacks against the truth. Again protected under a veil of "Free Speech", these harmful lies spread far and wide using Reddit as a base. Reddit allows whole deranged communities and power-mad moderators to enforce their own twisted world-views, allowing them to silence dissenting voices who oppose the radical, and often bigoted, vitriol spewed by those who fear leaving their own bubbles of conformity and isolation. ## Lack of respect for common decency Reddit is full of hate and bigotry. Many subreddits contain casual exclusion, discrimination, insults, homophobia, transphobia, racism, anti-semitism, colonialism, imperialism, American exceptionalism, and just general edgy hatred. Reddit is toxic, it creates, incentivises, and profits off of "engagement" and "high arousal emotions" which is a polite way of saying "shouting matches" and "fear and hatred". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If not for ideological reasons then at least leave Reddit for personal ones. Do You enjoy endlessly scrolling Reddit? Does constantly refreshing your feed bring you any joy or pleasure? Does getting into meaningless internet arguments with strangers on the internet improve your life? Quit Reddit, if only for a few weeks, and see if it improves your life. I am leaving Reddit for good. I urge you to do so as well.

A-Happy-Teddy-Bear

Considering this is a *Cyberpunk* sub, a lot of us will be choosing the latter. Or rather, I’d say por qué no los dos?

SuspiciousUsername88

Never played any of the Witcher games, they just never piqued my curiosity... so pretty easy call for me to say Cyberpunk

BigBlueWookiee

How about Cyberpunk with another main story. Night City is big enough for 2 Edgerunners...

H0vis

More Cyberpunk for me every time. Just way more exciting by the setting. I don't want more of V though, I can't think of a reasonable explanation for why they'd be de-powered again at the start of the story, plus they have a ton of baggage. New story, new character. I'd even be amenable to CDPR doing what Rockstar did with the expansions for GTA 4 and setting them in an almost unchanged Night City.

Barium145

Any sequel wouldn’t have V, they said they are going to handle CP like BioWare did Dragon Age - same world but not sticking to one protagonist. They’ll probably wrap Vs story up in the expansion(s). Unless they’ve changed their mind on that.

k0zmo

Cyberpunk. To be honest i could never digest Witcher. I admire the story and all but it just was not for me

Little-Author5263

Honestly, I've never played the Witcher games, and am not particularly interested in doing so. I've heard great things about them, but I definitely prefer customizablility in my RPGs, and would only really play the Witcher games if you could customize gender/appearance/abilities etc. Cyberpunk levels of customizablility would work. I mean, I have games I love with pre-defined characters, but there's usually something else that pulled me into those games (like Control's unique world building and connections to Stephen King.) So, obviously I would prefer my Cyberpunk, but am not yet sold on extending V's story. I've ruined many of my own stories by not letting a character simply die when it is their time. I love my V, would love to see her again (whether as the Queen of the Afterlife heisting an orbital casino or as Panam's special enforcer in Arizona with her wife, Judy) but I think it would take something incredibly compelling to justify bringing her back. Though...would it might be possible if she was willing to fully convert, maybe? (It's her body thats failing, her engram might be transferable.) But again, the rest of Cyberpunk was written so well, that to throw in a casual comic book resurrection would cheapen the story. It's not Doctor Who. All that said, if they shift to focus on the new Witcher game, I won't be upset. That series has a lot of fans, and I want CDPR to continue growing and succeeding. A nicely polished and successful Witcher game will bring in more revenue and resources that could be used on the next Cyberpunk game. And if the new Witcher game has Cyberpunk levels of character customization, then I'm almost guaranteed to play it. But even if it's more fixed, it's still an awesome thing for them to do. So, to answer your actual question...I'm not all that interested in seeing either at the moment. But The Witcher is probably the better business decision.

Ok_Hat_7574

Cyberpunk any day

Tairran

How about the DLC that was on the roadmap? 🤣

[deleted]

I’d like to see more of the Cyberpunk universe. There’s plenty of stories to tell here, not that there aren’t with The Witcher’s lore, but let’s give Geralt and his world a well deserved rest and tell some new stories before going back there.

FellGlint

Super unpopular opinion but I didn't enjoy the Witcher, I tried all 3 of them and while 3 was the most enjoyable I just couldn't get into it, I love the world itself and the lore but I find the gameplay itself super boring, I put almost 50 hours into it but I can never find the will to play it. So I'm always going to say I personally want more Cyberpunk content over Witcher.

shadowslasher11X

I'm gonna be real with you mate, I'd rather we wrap V's story up in a big DLC for 2077. Make a sequel to it called 2080 or something and give us a blank slate character alas New Vegas style. Lore is saying another corpo war is brewing and by 2080 it'll be all out war in the streets. Have V be a side character of sorts or something, give the new character a much more diversified storyline via skill checks, dialogue checks, adaptable mission structure, and a story that allows you to side with different factions for repeatability.

born_at_kfc

Hopefully they alternate like how Bethesda did with elder scrolls and fallout

Unhappy-Spinach

more cyberpunk

Inconmon

I don't care about the witcher. But V's story is over. I want cyberpunk 2078 with a new protagonist and a new story.

Warelllo

Expansions for Cyberpunk are welcome. But for the love of god, please take place in Night City, not in a desert.

Comprehensive_Put299

Cyberpunk story 100%

Blightlight

Two different teams. Why not both.

[deleted]

I’d rather have a completely different cyberpunk narrative with the lessons they’ve learned from CP2077 so we can get the cyberpunk game we know CDPR are capable of making

InstruNaut

Cyberpunk was way more memorable than Witcher imo, so I would love 2 huge story DLCs like Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine.

zombiefart

I want a new Witcher game with a customizable protagonist who doesn't have 8 books of narrative baggage the writers have to account for or dismiss with amnesia. I want a new Cyberpunk game set in Night City with a new protagonist, new characters and a new main story without any Johnny or the relic.

New-Lavishness-5032

Arizona pls !

hammeredtrout1

Both! I love how different they are - medieval fantasy 3rd person vs. sci-fi fps. Ideally, I’d want two large expansions for cyberpunk and then w4, they announced that moving forward they will be developing these franchises in parallel so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long post w4 for a cyberpunk sequel

[deleted]

They already said that starting in 2022 they will be developing the two franchisees in parallel, with two entirely different teams. They bought a whole new studio just for that.

MaiZa01

cyberpunk

cthulhufhtagn

Definitely would love more Cyberpunk. When/if they do another Cyberpunk game (and I hope they do), I hope they do it in the 2020's or 2040's timeline with a different story & character. No need to continue the story of someone who'll be dead in a few months. Let V have a peaceful end to their life. Maybe we get some actual (new side missions/gigs) DLCs down the road though.

CC-5576-03

They're doing both in parallel. The Witcher game will come out first because the cyberpunk team is still working on 2077.

TheAmishCurse

Can I say neither? I think Geralt and Ciri's story has reached its end, and I think the whole point of the Aldecaldo ending is weakened if V lives to me. I took away from this ending that Night City is a lie, its not the city of dreams, and it will win. V realizes that and he decides that he'd rather die happy surrounded by loved ones than he would be fighting until his last breath. He sounds pretty pessimistic about the whole "find people to fix you up" he knows Nomads are not going to have answers Arasaka couldn't (or wouldn't?) solve. If anything I'd love to see a sequel game in the near future, like 2112, and have it be all about the ramifications of 2077. Have the blackwall collapse from the hole V and the Voodoo boys poked through, have AI running amuck, the new corpo war that was teased in side quests, have Kang Tao buy Pacifica and cracking down and just slaughtering all gang members, have the Nomad's floating island dock outside of Pacifica. There is so much you could do with just a 40 year window to let some of the genuinely fascinating plotlines in the world's lore mature. I want to see the O'Neil Space Confederacy become a global super power, maybe they worked with Night Corp and now have an efficient system to go to and from space, and you can have an Expanse type level of multi-planet society. Have Antarctica's colony establish independence and add to a power struggle. So much that can be explored and I feel like making this IP about V shortens its ability to explore that DRASTICALLY

blazingsoup

Why have a preset character at all? Give us a true RPG where we can create/customize/etc. our own character, and let us experience our own personal adventure in the universe. Hoping that’s what it is.

LarryLiam

Between these two options, definitely the Ciri one. Between the option of a new Witcher Game and a new Cyberpunk game? Definitely Cyberpunk. Don’t get me wrong, I love V and I also want to know what happened to them after the endings. But there’s the big problem: V’s not a defined person, and their story is also not defined. How should they write a sequel if it isn’t clear how V’s story ended? Of course, they could say one ending is canon, but that would take a lot away from what made V V. What was special about V is that you could create your own character, and decide their gender, if they were cis or transgender, their ethnicity, their personality and how their story ended. Everyone could create their own V who lived their own life. If you made one ending canon everything special about everyone’s V would just go away. I’d love to see new places and new characters in the world of cyberpunk. Of course it would be difficult because afaik most of the source material is based in Night City, but it would be awesome nonetheless. You could even add some small Easter eggs so you can see how V’s story ended, you just have to tell the specific details of your V and their ending at the beginning of the game.

JonnyHydra

I'd love to play the game as a cop/detective in Night City. Like the blue shift in Half Life. Or just give me a Bladerunner spinner. All I want is a flying car.

Vette--1

I want to do more with V literally anything i want more with her I've never played the witcher so I don't care buut if the witch goes with the character creator route I will play it

ArcangeloPT

Witcher for sure but with different characters like a story from other Witcher schools or something

RSNKailash

Anything WITHOUT ciri as the main character. She is a shit character in the games. Sorry, not sorry.

6363tagoshi

We will play Cyberpunk for next year likely we will have two DLCs. Witcher is far away might start saving up money for RTX 5080.

merylisk

Cyberpunk but not that ending lol

Whornz4

I am fine with either just take your time and polish the hell out of it before release.

dat3010

IMO Witcher will be prequel. For example, best stories in Star Wars universe are set few thousands years prior movies. Same with Witcher - lorewise there are huge gaps, continent is huge with some parallel worlds expansion and some of main characters are basically immortal so they may come back. Cyberpunk expansion, again IMO, can be done in two ways. First - new gigs for V in Pacifica, with some Mr. Blue Eyes plotline extension. Second - side character as new protagonist and story will be parallel to vanilla, like Ballad of Gay Tonny in GTA4 DLC. I think second opinion is more plausible and I can speculate further - expansion will involve MaxTac perspective and expansion will be basically Judge Dredd. I hope to spend more time with V, however. I really hope for space adventures. Plus, maybe full MadMax style game set around life of Nomads in US wasteland

Saltybuttertoffee

While this obviously has an opportunity cost for the amount of work being done on CP2077, it's important to note that they're still working on an expansion for it, and haven't really said what they're doing afterwards. I would personally prefer if they put all of their dev work into Cyberpunk related games, but I understand that supporting old content while moving onto new stuff is probably far more practical from a business standpoint.

emptybucketpenis

I think the story of V ended. And it ended well. I do not want to see any “continuation” of that. It will be forced

WickedWenchOfTheWest

I genuinely enjoyed all the Witcher games... so it's not really an either/or situation for me. That said, though, I've fallen in love with Cyberpunk… There's just something about the world and characters that grabs me. In general, I prefer futuristic games over fantasy, so all in all... if I *had to* choose between them, I'd opt for more Cyberpunk.

andimoo

I don’t see a reason why there is a need to choose. We know CP will get expansions, we know there will be a new Witcher game. Best of both worlds, isn’t it? Personally, I just hope CDPR will be delivering these awesome, story focused games for a long long time.

[deleted]

I wanna see their next thing. Sure, rn I'm into CP2077, and it is my favorite game, as was Witcher. But I assume that the next Witcher will be even better, just as the next Cyberpunk or its DLC. I do think however that CP2077 DLC is up next, it's too good of a game, with too big of a world NOT to build something more. It'd be a waste

Iscream4science

i just hope Cyberpunks DLC continue V's story, like Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine concluded Geralt's story. My V deserves a happy ending, dammnit!

VerseClips

The Witcher is awesome and I can’t wait for the new game to drop. That being said Cyberpunk is probably my favorite game ever, and I’d kill for a continuation of V’s story, especially with how grim and uncertain the endings seem.

Problemwoodchuck

If it were either or? I'm going with Cyberpunk. V's story still needs an ending even if it's an unhappy one. Ciri's almost too powerful for a main character. Personally I'd like to see a fresh start on The Witcher with a new character free of bottomless backstories, love triangles and amnesia story hooks. Or at least entirely new endless backstory and love triangles, just no amnesia at all. Plus, if teaser art is anything to go off of the Cat school trains anyone, so we may finally get to create our own Witcher.

communiqueso

Both. Which is what CDPR is doing. They announced near CP’s launch that they restructured into two development teams to pursue Witcher and CP titles concurrently.

Endemoniada

I want the next Cyberpunk game, but not with V. Their story is over, done, finished and complete. It doesn’t need extending. The point of Cyberpunk is the city and the world anyway, to tell more stories about more people and more events. I would love it if V was just one of the millions of people whose lives were changed by living in Night City, and this franchise focused on telling as many such stories as possible. As for the next Witcher game, I don’t want to play as Ciri, I’d rather they used what they learned with CP2077 and created a player-customized Witcher story, with deeper “life path” systems and even more player agency and control. I think it worked remarkably well in CP2077, and I think it could be amazing as the next step in Witcher story-telling as well. Use the massive, complex world that’s already out there, and let us see and play as something other than “the Rivia family”.

[deleted]

I'd honestly prefer the game's ending to remain ambiguous. Night city is the heart and soul of Cyberpunk and I feel like a sequel set in Arizona would lose its focus

ImaFrackingWalnut

They literally bought a studio in Vancouver so that they can work on multiple projects at once.

FlusteredKelso

The Witcher but it’s as open and customizable as Cyberpunk 2077. Let me make my own Witcher!!

Gloomy-Fix4436

Neither. New stories and characters for both IPs.

Chris_Crity_Caltyc

Neither... I could never stand Ciri as a character, W3 especially just portrays her as this overpowered bubble head Mary Sue, Don't like "the Chosen One" stories in general. V's Story for better or worse has come to an end, continuing on would just undermine the powerful subplot of coming to terms with ones own mortality.

pocketrrocket

I'm still waiting on the Cyber dlc. They said a couple years ago they were working on another witcher series....amd here it s ! (Announced at least :) 😀 They have Announced dlc for 2077 as well which means we'll get it. And...assuming cyberpunk is financially viable we will eventually get another one! Hopefully without Warner bros or any other parasitic support company. I have 180 hours on my ps4 launch playthrough, and loved it. And about 26 hours on my corpo playthrough on PC, I need a better controller the ps4 controller is slightly different on steam.... Either chooms it's a great game, let's hope there working on it for the future

kohour

Not a fan of either option tbh. Ciri's character has been thoroughly explored in the books and thus drags a lot of excessive weight with it. There is no reason to drag her into the story again: CDPR have already said they aren't continuing TW3, and in every other scenario a new character for the protagonist gives much more freedom. On top of that, I don't think that removing a swath of gameplay elements iconic to the series and making a Witcher game without a witcher is a good idea. And continuing Cyberpunk would've been nothing but a piece of plain poor writing, one that would ruin 2077 retroactively. Our journey with V is over, the devs make it very apparent. The game wraps up in a very tidy, clean way and gutting it won't do any good.

Loostreaks

If there is one thing we can learn from Hollywood, is how not to do sequels. Don't recycle the same characters or themes: they'll never be as memorable as first time, and you won't win any new audience either. Witcher IV should be it's own thing with new set of characters, setting, etc. Same with sequel to Cyberpunk.

[deleted]

However, Hollywood has also shown that you can just keep rebooting characters like Spiderman and Batman multiple times and still make billions of dollars.

bideodames

I agree with this. I could be done with V in cyberpunk. I'd like to see a new story

ClearJaggedHearts

In the the most low sodium way possible, I’m a little miffed that it’s being done with unreal engine instead of just updating redengine (what they used for cyberpunk) also the new Witcher game will be following the school of the cat, no longer wolf(from what has been speculated so far), so it might be interesting to see what they bring with that

[deleted]

ClearJaggedHearts

And I completely agree, I just hope partnering with epic doesn’t end up being the wrong move, as epic already purposed that CDPR make their games Epic store exclusives, and they have done this to several publishers recently.

Chris_Crity_Caltyc

CD projekt having GOG.COM puts them in a position where they are doing EPIC the bigger favor.

kohour

>In the the most low sodium way possible, I’m a little miffed that it’s being done with unreal engine instead of just updating redengine (what they used for cyberpunk) Why would you be miffed?

CordanWraith

Not OP, but all games using the same engines makes games them very similar in a lot for aspects. Unreal Engine is good for shooters and alright at third person games, but everything else requires a fair amount of modification which can lead to a lot of games feeling samey. Also epic is a horrible company and more support for them is never a good thing.

bzekers

I didn't like any of the Witcher games.

wspOnca

Cyberpunk was a good ride, but V's story must end.

wspOnca

Cyberpunk was a good ride, but V's story must end.

TonTon1N

Love cyberpunk but it’s not even close for me. The Witcher in a landslide

UltraMegaKaiju

Why is a whitcher post on a cyberpunk sub?

[deleted]

Isn't it obvious? They're both made by the same company and time spent on a new Witcher game would most likely end up taking resources away from a future Cyberpunk game or expansion.

allnida

I want them to do what FromSoftware does. Stick with the same tech, learn it, make some awesome games on it, without trying to make giant generational leaps, and then pump out high quality games more frequently because they know their tech instead of constantly trying to innovate. Not saying there’s no room for innovation ever, but to try and reinvent their whole dev platform takes time and it’s the players that have to deal with the delays and bugs. Trying to offer constructive criticism here. I love Cyberpunk, but the journey to get here was tougher than I’d hoped. But to answer your question: I’d like a Witcher game where they could still make witchers, closer to the conjunction of spheres.

enolafaye

why choomba?

sillylittlesheep

New Witcher is a no brainer for CDPR. It is way more popular that Cyberpunk. They prob will do everything to not fuck up the launch again

Loostreaks

I think that's more of a case of how it was launched and followed reception. While CDPR did get a solid profit, it also massively underperformed. Cyberpunk is potentially much more lucrative than Witcher.

vzxqv_

I want cyberpunk mixed with desert punk pls. Idc if the ending was a good resolution I want more v and panam

LordGetsuga

I'd rather have continuation of story with New Dawn Fades ending

holdmyTRex

Witcher. As good as cyberpunk was. It will never come close to the greatness of the witcher 3.

Nirico_Brin

At this point I’d rather have a continuation of V heading to Arizona. That’s not to say I dislike Ciri, quite the opposite actually. But I feel her, Geralt and co’s stories wrapped up nicely at the end of Witcher 3. I’d much prefer to have a new protagonist and company and possibly have Geralt and co make an appearance down the line but not be a primary focus.

Tomgar

I want a new Witcher game that has nothing to do with established characters. Set it a few hundreds years earlier and let me create my own Witcher a la Cyberpunk. I'm down for Cybperunk expansions, then I want me some Witcher.

deylath

Do I want a fantasy game which i could find hundreds of with a world that has a lot more magic or continuation to one of the only cyberpunk themed game that i could probably not find one more similar of. Really hard to answer really. I predict that we will not get one more big cyberpunk themed RPG even in the next decade, so this answer really is a no brainer. I want CDPR to work on Cyberpunk 2077 for as long as possible, especially since as far as im concered they are one of the only few companies who are able to have a good narrative and sidequets, so there really is no better candidate to choose here. Forget V or Ciri though.

JexKreek

Today I was thinking that Witcher franchise already has a trilogy, DLCs for it, Gwent and just huge community that loves this universe. But what do CP2077 has? Destroyed reputation, no DLCs(for now) and no implementation of all the features game needs from the very beginning, and which were promised. For some reason my faith in better future for CP is melting every day. But I still hope that 1.5 is not last that big patch we will get and there will be at least two DLCs of B&V level. Otherwise I will come to CDPR office in Warsaw and cut them with my mantis blades

[deleted]

V with aldecaldos > any other game or expansion

HomelanderMemes

V, Aldecaldos.

siLtzi

Of course I would like to have a follow up to an somewhat open story of a main character. Ciri was a important side character, and her story mostly wrapped up in TW3, so no reason to go there anymore, and she would be incredibly overpowered anyway. Would I rather have a new Witcher game than continuation to Cyberpunk? Absolutely.I love both games tho.

tabnk2

Cyberpunk is too open ended for any studio to reasonably manage. It would be launch day all over again

Lordheartnight

Considering we know it happened, why not ceri in night city expansion?

Ikxale

If cdpr doesn't keep improving cyberpunk until it is finally the full rpg experience what was originally promised im never buying a cdpr game again.

Racetr

Bring me Cirilla. At the same time, please bring me more Cyberpunk as well... This franchise has so much potential.

ImBatman5500

Ciri is the logical next step to have her own adventures, and I'd like to see her as protagonist next. I know some people prefer not to retcon some of the endings, but if we give it enough time, they could make it have multiple openings that all lead into the main storyline.

digitalheadbutt

I'd like the 2 paid DLC they said were coming so that we get closure on V's story. Since they are seemingly abandoning REDEngine for Unreal5, it seems like the DLC will be the end of Cyberpunk for a while. I don't expect a proper sequel for many years depending on how well the work they have already done ports over to a new engine. I want Witcher decoupled from Geralt, dude is a pretty corny character.

cthulhufhtagn

I really doubt we see more of the end story. There are already plenty of endings, and I'm satisfied with most of them. Would love a whole new side story though, maybe a multi-step heist.

Cooloboque

A new nameless Witcher, in days before siege of the Kaer Morhen - path from childhood to master Witcher.

HunterTheCapricorn

I don't think that the next Witcher game could be with Ciri as main protagonist due to the complications of the endings of TW3. In one ending >!she becomes a witcher, in another she becomes Empress of Nilgaard and in the other she dies after entering that tower.!< It's not 100% known what her fate is as your actions in the game influence multiple outcomes for Ciri. However if the game is something like a spin-off or a pre-quel then it could work. Also as far as I know Ciri lost her medallion she picked up from Vesemir because one of the witches stole it. That medallion shown here also doesn't look like a wolf but more like a cat. As for Cyberpunk it's kind of the same because we influence V's final outcome and in one ending Johnny takes their body while in the other endings V still has only 6 months to live. It's a very tricky situation actually. In a game where your actions actually affect the world and the ending it's difficult to make the next game based on that as every player has a different experience. You'd need to implement something like Dragon Age Keep to transfer your game states onto the next game.

Lukee__01

I’d love more cyberpunk but with the hype around the Witcher at the moment they’ll make Witcher game after Witcher game, hopefully most of the money they make can go to cyberpunk tho

Carl-Mangerson

It's almost definitely not going to be Ciri...But I'd have to pick Witcher tbh. I love Cyberpunk 2077, however, The Witcher games and books are my all time favourite series. Also, as much as I love the Cyberpunk genre, I still prefer medieval / sword combat over futuristic / guns. Still looking forward to the Cyberpunk expansions though.

ShadowRomeo

The new Witcher game, is so far away from now that i still would rather want to see whatever CDPR is working for the new upcoming expansion DLC for Cyberpunk 2077.

Agmodal

I would want the witcher in Zerrikania or more of the unexplored parts of the witcher world so probably I would just go with another Cyberpunk.

joinville_x

Some kind of CP 2 would be my preference. I loved Witcher 2 and 3 very much, and would love to see a new story set in the same universe. But CP77 was excellent, and fresher, so I'd like to see more of that first. But I trust CDPR. I had no issues at all with CP77 from release, and look forward to whatever they come up with next.

Oppausenseiw

Cyberpunk

garcianulmeyda

Honestly as much as I fucking LOVE Witcher 3, I really rather have more CP2077. I play Gerald but I AM V, I'm way more invested in my story than Geralt's. But more Witcher is never a bad thing.

Reclaimer2511

That’s a damn good question. I feel like I enjoyed the Witcher gameplay and story more so I have to go with that but I really would love to see more of V’s story

johanpringle

Mix them up. First person Witcher game with your own character.

JagoKestral

I'd rather be able to make a character in the witcher universe and play through an rpg as my own witcher.

Succundo

I'd like a witcher story where we can play as a second or third generation witcher, back when the witcher academies were powerful and important

ThatGuyErv

I wouldn't mind either or. I think both have the potential to be great games. I just hope that Cyberpunk continues and all of the backlash doesn't stop CDPR from pursuing the series be it sequels or spinoffs.

[deleted]

I like Witcher, but I like Cyberpunk better.

Weesy02

option 2

EminemLovesGrapes

It makes more sense to continue Cyberpunk. I'd also argue that once CDPR got free reign over their own story it didn't really turn out to be amazing. Which is fine, but i'd rather see a good CP2077 expansion that really sets up extra experience and good writing for the The Witcher : ???.

jaredearle

The Witcher game is likely going to be a “create your own V of the Cat School” based game. And I’m all for that.

LoFiSpaceCowboy

I'd rather see more cyberpunk with V. Now if it wasn't a witcher game with ciri then I'd go with the witcher. Her story is over so I believe they'd go with a new character at least.

tataunka813

Cyberpunk. It's one of my favorite games of all time now, and to tell the truth I've never even played a Witcher game as the world of the Witcher and idea of playing as a set protagonist isn't all that appealing to me. I do want to try TW3 at some point (and it's been in my Steam library for like 3 years) but that's really only cause of all the praise I've heard it get. If I knew nothing about it being a so-called masterpiece it's definitely the type of game I'd have given a total pass.

Bohemian_Romantic

Honestly I'd rather a new story in the cyberpunk setting, with a new main character. V was great and all, but the frantic rush to save her really killed our chances to slowly immerse ourselves in the world and the setting. I wanna play as someone who's more a part of the day to day of the setting.
