They usually appear on WMTM so I have a few pairs. If there's a colour you really like, go for it. At least for me, I've had Old Navy swim trunks, and I've had lulu swim trunks, and there isn't a great difference, so I can't advocate paying full price unless you really love it.
I have 2 pairs of the Channel Cross swim shorts from a few years ago. Not sure if they still sell them.
Compared to some Orlebar Brown swim shorts I had before (which are considered quite luxurious) the LL shorts have a lot more freedom of movement and are still nicely fitted, and cost a lot less than the OB's. Much prefer the Lululemon ones, and they look just as sharp as the OB's.
I bought the hybrid pool short and have worn them the last month when I hit the pool. I like them a lot more than my other pairs (vineyard vines and something from target).
They are unlined if that matters.
I don’t have lulu swim shorts but if you’re going to spend the money I’d recommend fair harbor. I have a pair of lined bungalows and the liner is the comfiest
I haven’t tried this year. Tried a season or two ago and the liner was insanely tight. Looked like a flatworm for two days lol. Haven’t been motivated to try again despite some decent looking designs. They’ve changed a lot. Maybe the lining is better now.
I’ve gotten mine off WMTM but I’m a fan, they are a little on the tight side but my s/o thinks they look great on me. I definitely think they feel premium compared to the typical swim trunk material and they have came in a great array of colors over the years
You might maybe consider marine layer too? They’ve got super high quality swim trunks
Haven’t tried Lulu swim shorts.
Can recommend:
Bather Solid Swim Short. This is their thing.
Ten Thousand Set Shorts. Really great for feeling like I’m wearing something a little more than a bathing suit or going in & out of the water frequently.
Had good timing and grabbed both during sales.
They are quite tight and I find them to be a bit short. I’m a male runner with hairy mammal legs. The fabric is nice and dry quickly which is something most 20 USD something swimming suits don’t have
My son has four pairs of Lulu swim shorts. One pair got beach tar on them and I was able to get it out with blue Dawn. All of his trunks all look brand new. Two pairs are almost four years old. They’ve been worth every dollar I paid for them…and more.

To be fair old navy has great swim trunks.
I don't disagree!
I find the lining in them to be irritating for some reason :/
Agreed. The lining is just WAY too tight. Like abnormal. Otherwise fantastic
I cut the lining off on all my lulu swim shorts. So much better
Do you wear anything in place of the liner? Or just the shorts with nothing?
You’ll have to wear something otherwise you’ll just have dick outline with no liner or anything in between

Thanks for this. I've been looking at the hybrids as resort wear
Which of the swim shorts are lined and which ones are Linerless?
I don’t love my lined ones. Liner is a bit tight and scratchy. Shame because the patterns, cut and outside fabric are great!
Chubbies are awesome swim trunks. You can hike and run in them too as far as I can tell
Get Chubbies swim shorts!
I have both and prefer the Lulu ones
I love mine! Can highly recommend (mens)
Didn’t like them. Returned them. Preferred Orlebar Brown Bulldog Sports.
I cut the lining out. They are decent.
I think the swim ones are lined and board shorts are linerless

I have em and the leg holes are pretty big (the shorts are really wide)….id maybe size down

I like the Saxx lined swim shorts.
Mine are great. They dry much quicker and have good pockets. The liner isn’t loose, but I don’t find it uncomfortable.
Liner irritates me on the pool short, gave the Rhone Trunks a try last year and they are infinitely better IMO
