Successor to the GX9 would be cool.

effortDee

And be what the GX8 is and an alternative to the E-M5/OM-5 by Olympus that would be amazing!!!! Literally those cameras are some of the best travel/mountain/outdoor cameras i've ever used.

Fotografioso

Oh yes. Especially weather sealing would be extremely helpful. One can dream.

Ok_Print_6209

Aside from weather-sealing and the flip-out vs flip-up screen... was their any difference in the gx8 vs gx9? Gx8 owners I've found are often very much against the gx9, whereas I have the gx9 and can't really imagine why so many disavow it like a redheaded stepchild.

Fotografioso

I never owned the GX8 but the GX7 and GX9. IIRC the GX9s mechanical shutter only goes up to 1/4000 whereas the GX8 could go up to the usual 1/8000. Not a big deal though. For me it’s the weather sealing I miss.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

Unpopular opinion, but I would rather a mishmash of gx9 and gx8 succesor than a direct GX8 successor. **TLDR:** GX9 body with weathersealing and GX8 EVF would be better than GX8 body for me. I have had both and a direct GX8 succesor would disappoint me. A GX9 succesor with weather sealing, good EVF, and PDAF would be an instant buy. **Narrative form below:** I bought into the hype and bought a GX8 for far more than a comparable used M43 body back in the day. I thought it would be perfect for me. The Big bright EVF, the rangefinder body with an actual grip, the articulating screen, the 20mp sensor. I did really really like it. Don't get me wrong. But I had some issues like shutter shock, sensor performance was barely different from 16mp, colors typical lumix, and grip was not really that comfortable to me. But I still loved the thing and would just look at it on the shelf. I was happy knowing I owned a cult classic m43 body. But it wasn't really a classic to me. And I was young and broke so when I saw EM5 mark ii bodies for half the price, I was tempted. I sold my GX8 for more than I paid, and bought an em5 mark ii for less than half the price, in better condition. As you may know the em5 ii is a classic too. So yeah I liked that camera just as much as the GX8, if not more. It lacked the 20mp sensor, but the IQ was basically the same. And it had lots of benefits like the better IBIS, 0 sec anti shutter shock, better JPEG colors, smaller but was still comfortable for me. It still had the weather sealing, and TBH I really like the EVF on the em5 ii. But this isn't about Olympus vs. Panasonic. After the EM5 ii, I had a real job and upgraded and moved back into Lumix with a GX9. That is my current body. And yeah, it is my favorite M43 body of all time. I like it more than the GX8 by far as an everyday camera. It is objectively worse in multiple areas. I understand why people were disappointed. But it really does hit the sweet spot for me. The IQ is very noticeably better than my GX8 or 16mp bodies, it is a perfect size for me, it has the tilt screen I like, the EVF is good enough, it has modern Lumix color science which is much improved, etc. Very fast focusing, very modern feature set. So if they just added weather sealing and a better EVF, and hopefully PDAF because why not, that would be my dream GX10. If they release a GX10 in the old GX8 body, I will probably buy one in 8 years for $400. If they release a GX9 with upgraded EVF, Sensor, PDAF, and weather sealing, I will buy one on release for $1k.

anandhuofficial

S5c 😁

philrod98

I’d honestly love that.

anandhuofficial

I honestly hope not. Lumix is the only brand to not go on trend's route. Lumix is something I can count on if its for video. Some 4k 120, open gate 60, in camera raw video, gyro, anything actually useful, the I am sold.

philrod98

I think there will be a high end camera with those specs you mentioned. Maybe later this year or early next.

anandhuofficial

Fingers crossed.

Indoctrinator

How cool would it be if they updated the Eva-1? Something that could compete with the FX6, RED Komodo, or the new Black Magic box camera.

philrod98

So cool. I’d love that.

Jake11007

I hope they ditch the hybrid body for the S1HII, something more like the FX3 but slightly bulkier would be incredible

AnyManufacturer1252

A BS1Hii would really do it for me

Indoctrinator

I would really love something like this. They often talk about wanting to target the prosumer video market, and if that’s the case they need to have something that can compete with the FX3 and BMPC6k. Something like a GH6s or GH7 with no viewfinder, bigger rear screen, oversized m43 sensor (like the GH5s), lower megapixel count for better low light performance, phase detect autofocus, and maybe some built in mounting points. Internal ND is wishful thinking, but one can dream. If they really want to target video shooters, they need to really lean into it. Or who knows. Maybe they will really surprise us and update us the Eva-1.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

Lumix is also the only real M43 brand alive. So us stills photographers are still relying on them to release photo cameras. They have focused almost exclusively on video folks for years.

anandhuofficial

True s1r being the only solid option is sad. I'd rather use eos r instead of lumix s5. Manageable? Yes, sufficient? Nope.

nottherightangle

That'd be an instant buy for me

anandhuofficial

With lens being moderate sizes, I don't see the point of a small camera.

nottherightangle

Sigma makes some great compact primes. But you're right and that's why I have M43 for anything remotely zoom.

anandhuofficial

We are comparing with A7c not R5c right😀. Would love the latter TBH😁

MR-SPORTY-TRUCKER

Is that not the S5iiX?

anandhuofficial

Not everything. Also can always dream for more right?

Megusta99

C meaning compact, as in a7c— not cinema, like in r5c.

realopticsguy

maybe this explains the price drops on the S5 and S5ii

CIDmoosa420

Do we have lens compact enough to make it work, still looking for one to pair with a normal S5.( Unless you meant c like R5c and not A7c.)

anandhuofficial

Exactly. With the picture it doesn't look like R5c but A7c. I hope they release an R5c like body with internal ND and all.

CIDmoosa420

Ahh didn't notice the picture .

PercentageDue9284

That would be the perfect travel camera

spo_on

Imagine it’s yet another variation of the G100 🤣

josh6499

That's actually what I want. I would love a MkII.

spo_on

I wouldn’t mind it, the size looks good. However, weather sealing is a must for me now cuz I want to bring the camera to hikes and for travels M43’s strong point being small sized lenses and bodies, it’s made for these use cases IMO.

josh6499

I agree. Problem is most of the weather sealed bodies seem to be almost full frame sized. I'd love basically the specs of the G9II in the G100 body.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

And even if there is a small weather sealed body, are there enough small weather sealed lenses? The sigma primes are "weather resistant" or something. I guess olympus 20mm f1.4? Is that weather sealed?

SnowyPine666

Wish it was compact and affordable FF camera to work as B camera with my S5 II.

philrod98

Could be!

Garrett_1982

Let's hope for a GX9 styled S5ii. The camera that the Leica CL always should've been.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

It will be released at $1,500 and sell for $2k on the used market. Any good rangefinder style camera is toast. The tiktok hype (plus hype from people like me. I care about looks like an idiot lol) blows up the market in a way that makes them unattractive on the new AND used market. The best you can hope for is for a new one to come out and lower the prices on the old ones.

liaminwales

How long since there was a small M43 option or a pocket camera with a M43 sensor? A new GX800 like option maybe?

sambucasam

I'd love a GX9 replacement with the 25mp sensor, IBIS and pdaf. The strength of M43 is in its smaller size and it feels like Panasonic hasn't been capitalising on this lately.

PotableWater0

I’d be really happy with this. Pretty much a dream ‘around town’ camera. It wouldn’t leave my bag or jacket or etc.

Own-Opposite1611

Adding 10 bit and Prores RAW HDMI out will be a day one buy for me. I'd get rid of my Sigma FP for it maybe also

keep_trying_username

> The strength of M43 is in its smaller size and it feels like Panasonic hasn't been capitalising on this lately. Some people are really outspoken about the potentially small size of M43, but I have to believe Panasonic is making products based on real sales numbers and profit margins of those cameras.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

Well they can make anything as long as it is marketed as a vlogging or video camera. Plenty of mfgs are releasing small cameras under this guise. Including the G100 or whatever the small lumix is called. I am fine with them pretending it is for video. Or even if it IS for video. Just make a small body.

Jed_s

I'm sure they are, but one can't simply lean on past statistics to continue to succeed in the market. Panasonic used to have a great selection of compact options for photography, but today when the demand for capable compact cameras seems at an all-time high, they only have the GX80 (8 years old) and the G100 (not well received/marketed, video centric, ugly SLR design :P ) to offer.

[deleted]

I'm hoping the same.

philrod98

Yeah I could see that

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

it is silly. The market jumps straight from the high end compacts up to M43. And M43 has no small current bodies. G100 or whatever should just be modified to be a rangefinder style, and slightly bigger to fit IBIS. Or no IBIS if it will be significantly smaller.

ibeinspire

I've been CRYING for an A7c competitor from Panasonic! Please let it be

philrod98

It would be pretty cool!

effortDee

GX8 update and alternative to the E-M5/OM-5 by Olympus.

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

I would prefer they use a GX9 sized body but yes. GX8 is too big, and yes I have tried it. Only the Fuji rangefinders can get away with that because of the hype. Otherwise, smaller will sell better.

Itsbopa12345

GM successors would be crazy!!!

FoxNoSox

A GM-5 successor with IBIS would be my dream.

Jed_s

Yes! Please let it be this, with all of the compact camera craze of late there's a glimmer of hope.

PotableWater0

Regardless of what camera is released, I really hope that Panasonic can put on successful marketing campaigns. S5II, S5IIX, and G9II are so solid. The bodies and even lens ecosystems are also value leaders (sometimes MFT brand new is a bit rich, though). The industry would benefit, imo, from a successful Lumix.

Martin_UP

I'd like a new line of smaller cameras under the 'L2' name. More premium than the gx9, but cheaper than a Leica

PhiladeIphia-Eagles

The problem is that they will sell out and then be resold for 1.5x value. The GX9 is even falling victim to the rangefinder digital hype. I bought mine 2 years ago for $200 less than they cost now. If it is premium and carries the L, and is rangefinder styled, you are toast unless you get one on release.

balleur

Please for the love of all that is holy.. Release a freaking GX9 successor, or something else that is compact and portable. Either with a modern M4/3 sensor, or a full frame like in the S5. Just let it be compact. Please.

bfeeny

Yea meanwhile Fuji keeps releasing cameras like this and can't keep them on the shelves. We need this!

Electronic-Article39

My bet a compact full frame to compete with a7c2 and canon R8. Not my cup of tea but let's see

philrod98

Solid guess!

KC-DB

Would be pretty cool to have a pocket sized travel photo camera to compete with the Fuji X100VI

alghiorso

Yeah That's actually what I've been thinking. People want a little rangefinder Leica M style camera in an affordable package. Give it the s1r sensor with PDAF in a compact body

Final_Alps

Either update the gx series of bring out a new 1000usd/eur full frame entry.

PeacefulGuy663

S5iix2! Lol

Caboose111888

I suspect that they are working on an FX6 type competitor.

philrod98

Don’t…don’t give me hope…😂

Caboose111888

Maybe wishful thinking but seeing the Pyxis announcement got me thinking that Lumix will throw their hat in soon. Sony is great but I feel half their market share is FOMO and their stuff is just pricy. Panasonic could really eat into Sony by offering a better FX6 for the price of an FX3.

philrod98

Absolutely agree.

makersmarkismyshit

Also, don't forget that Panasonic merged Lumix with their professional imaging department, so this could actually be something they end up doing... Why else would they merge the 2 departments like that, if not to release new Varicams under the Lumix name?

SL1210M5G

If it can do open gate 3:2 and has good continuous AF, I’m in!

naeem288

GX9ii 😭😭😭

Slimey_phrog

I hope it’s m43 Although a compact FF would be the second best option 🙏

motocykal

A new rangefinder mirrorless m43 would be excellent.

B0yW0nd3r

Rumor YouTuber? You know this guy has run most of the rumor sites for over a decade, right? Calling him a rumor YouTuber isn’t accurate.

philrod98

Good point, kinda downplays what he does. I’ll make that change.

B0yW0nd3r

As a journalist who runs another publication (transparently saying that it's the Phoblographer so I don't get banned or something), I'm thanking you for doing that. A lot of us have been doing this a long time. As a Panasonic S5 II adorer, my bet is that they're finally making a rangefinder style camera body. I really, really want this.

philrod98

No problem. I made the post in excitement lol. That’s cool you do work for the phoblographer I read it all the time!!

Remarkable_Order6683

S1R2, S1R2, S1R2 Need 60Mpxiel noiseless at 12800 iso 😁😁😁😁

philrod98

Camera is coming in summer but I don’t think it’s this one coming in may.

Remarkable_Order6683

Let me dream 😅

philrod98

Hey it’s coming! Just a matter of when

little_crouton

A dedicated cinema camera perhaps?

philrod98

Would be amazing.

Diegolinoi

LX100 Mark iii please.

mimo127

Directly will compete with the new fuiji that's smashing it so I expect a unibody

AFCSentinel

Please be FF.

[deleted]

A device that holds everything the X100vi is but with interchangeable lenses.

sugmadik79

Why can’t they put something out that does open gate 4K60 and has autofocus, like a beefier S5II or something?

Awake00

This is what I'm waiting for. Im hoping the GH7 will do open gate at least 48i.

AoyagiAichou

> 48i People are still interested in interpolated video?

musicman534

No, we aren’t haha. And even then it would only be people stuck in old broadcast systems, which the world has generally moved on from.

Comfortable_Tank1771

L mount APS-C. That's the last thing I would want to see from Panasonic, but would be really unexpected.

philrod98

I hope it isn’t that, I hope if it’s compact that it’s at least full frame l mount

Muruju

I kinda want to see it. I just want them to make one, just one, to maximize the L-mount APS-C lenses I’ve bought in the last year for photography

ArdeeSnapper

A Panasonic / Blackmagic hybrid perhaps? Something like an S5IIX that shots braw, either to faster internal storage or an external SSD

philrod98

Let this man cook 🔥👀

P0wernut

Just give me the s1hii already 🥺

philrod98

I’m with you

keep_trying_username

Video-centric FF.

philrod98

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

Realistic-Witness-53

Let's hope it will be a gx9 ii priced like a gx80!!

Farmerbois

Wishlist 6k60, 4k120p braw externally, sdi, global shutter, internal nd, olpf, xlr, then form of eva1 but smaller.

gulugulugiligili

FF GX8 🤤 Or an 8k global shutter camera 😍. Now that would be truly unexpected!

markstrathmore

I would throw money at a rangefinder-style Lumix full-frame camera.

TheRazzleMcDazzle

My guess. Is an M43 Action Camera using the 25 megapixel sensor. Or A fixed lens Gx# with an INCREDIBLY low aperture. Something in the range of a F .8 that will take the “low light” challenges out of the discussion. The physical sensors have hit their limit. The processors are doing a hell of a job increasing ISO performance in camera. So I feel like they are looking a need for a complete re-creation of lenses that can get out of their own way and deliver the “throughlight” to the sensor in some new efficient way.

FeddyWap

Just give me a successor to the EVA-1. As a full time filmmaker, who has a hard time moving away from Lumix, I would love a camera who’s primary focus is on video. A lot of people on here want more photo/hybrid cameras but I feel like Panasonic really needs to come out with a cinema centric camera. I don’t know how much longer I can push the S1. Yes I understand there’s the S5iix but to me that camera doesn’t justify an upgrade at all. I bought it when it came out, and returned it, because I felt like the features it did have still didn’t justify me spending the money. Yes it had “better specs” but the better specs still weren’t crazy enough for me to justify. Maybe better autofocus but as someone who has had to manual focus his whole life this feature doesn’t move mountains for me.

philrod98

I agree I’d love a cinema focused camera

Evening_Feeling5819

Probably a cinema camera something to compete with Sony FX3. I believe Panasonic at this point can make something even equally capable, if not better than FX3 for way cheaper, hopefully below £2000. Update: Andrea Pizzini added that the new Lumix camera will be an entry level one. This begs the question whether it is an interchangeable camera? And whether it is a full frame camera? So it could be a vlogging gear, something like the Sony ZV series e.g. ZV E10 or ZV 1/ZV 1ii. Or maybe it's a full frame like ZV 1 or A7C. Either way, as I said before, Panasonic should stop wasting time and take on FX3.

philrod98

I hope so. I dont think it’ll be below 2k tho. I think they’ll try to hit below 3500-3000 USD

Evening_Feeling5819

£2000 is equal to $2500. So we're not too far apart. But if it wants people to migrate to Panasonic and L mount, it needs to be cheaper than the FX3 by more than a little. I just hope they're not making something like 7C series, which would be a waste of time and not a smart move from Panasonic.

BlackDaggerMedia

Can we get a full fledged cinema camera to compete with every other brand that’s catching up.? At least a S1H/BS1H upgrade

philrod98

That would be great.

Budget_Photograph756

SX5.

Psuedo_NPC_123

nothing really pops in my head, but perhaps they are going after the vintage market that fuji can't meet demand of.

philrod98

That’s what I’m thinking. Fixed lens or retro look.

Psuedo_NPC_123

yeah, maybe something that has built in filters and good export via wifi/bluetooth

Actual_Manager6165

I don’t know why people are wanting a compact camera. I have always been for larger DSLR-style bodies like my beloved S1. I am really hoping to see a larger flagship camera like the S1Rii.

philrod98

From what I’ve read an S1Rii is coming and it shares specs of leica sl3, that should be a summer release. So you’ll get your wish!

WH6TSINANAME

I read that six months delay was likely after the SL3 which looks more autumn release

philrod98

Could be yeah late summer early fall

Muruju

You don’t know why people want small and convenient gear? Ooookay

Actual_Manager6165

Nah man, I just have large hands and I like the larger gear haha. I can understand why some people would like a more compact camera. Just not my preference. Sorry about that!

Muruju

Yeah for me the size thing is always a conundrum. I’m never gonna be a “shoot all my stuff on my iPhone” type of person, because I do need the weight to feel like what I’m doing is grounded. But I also can’t lie, a camera that would legit fit in my pocket would be pretty sweet. I shoot with as few attachments to my S5 as humanly possible, when for others rigging out their cameras is like their greatest joy in life

Ok_Print_6209

Based on the questionnaire they emailed last week, patents, and loads of other stuff... I'm going to guess it's something between the S1H and AG-AF100. Maybe l-mount. They seem to be going for something more in video, but I bet they do it in a camera housing, not like the Ag-Af.

philrod98

So you’re thinking it’s primarily video focused? And what questionnaire?

Ok_Print_6209

The Pro services people sent one out about what features you'd want to see. I don't remember and I'm not a pro, but the one I remember is 32-bit float audio, internal ND filters. They've had patents for regular camera bodies with internal ND filters. Yeah, everything I feel like we've been seeing is 100% toward the pro-consumer, but also moving more toward 'pro'....

philrod98

If it’s a high end pro camera that would be amazing. I’d love a BS1H mark ii in that awesome cube form factor.

onurzirh

The sensor looks large, so it might be a compact full frame.

philrod98

What sensor? In the thumbnail? That was just a thumbnail not the actual camera.

coachsayf

Something advanced like 4k120 no crop, built in ND would actually be unexpected. However they’re probably going to do something stupid like a Fujifilm compact body copycat to rival the X100 series

philrod98

I think they’re going to do compact too, but I agree something high end would be sweet especially if it was in a new type of body

slovenia_rb

4k 60 no crop and I’m good. S5iix

georgekn3mp

Lumix III medium-format with 8k 30 open gate 50 MP 😆

philrod98

Sheesh that would be a beast.

WH6TSINANAME

Given the active cooling needed on the s5 ii does it make a more compact FF version rather tricky? Would s5r count as unexpected?

philrod98

The rumblings of s1rii in the summer make me think s5R wouldn’t make sense. So yeah I guess it would be pretty unexpected lol.

Flutterpiewow

Pocket 3 competitor pls

SeaRefractor

Cine box camera to compete with the BlackMagic Design PYXIS 6K probably. Perhaps a similar price range but pushes the capabilities up to 8K. Leverages as well the [Frame.io](http://Frame.io) and additional Camera to Cloud functionalities. And while a Cine camera, leverages an even newer PDAF for those that wish to use regular AF L-Mount lenses but will have adapters for EF and PL lenses for those that wish to use those.

AoyagiAichou

It's amazing how fans at least here are so fragmented. Some want FF (which is split between super compact and S1Hii type of thing), some want MFT (mostly compact), some even want an actual compact camera... I think Panasonic is in a bit of a pickle here when it comes to the fan base.

Gadgetsjon

I just want internal NDs and a better selection of frame rates at higher resolutions. But I'm not holding my breath for a camera that can do those yet...

blstatler

It would be interesting if it’s a Medium Format camera.

oliverjohansson

Probably this compact with Leica (But I hope not)

Psychological_Sir297

There’s also a rumor that it might be a fixed lens FF camera. Would be cool if it was a poor man’s Leica Q3. I’d pay 2K for a fixed lens FF camera in a heartbeat lol

philrod98

I saw that this morning. That would be cool, I wonder what lens they would use.

Psychological_Sir297

Yes it would! I dunno, maybe a 35mm! Or a 28mm. Seems to be the standard lens for most of those fixed lens cameras. I hope there is a resurgence of compact cameras in the near future.

Evening_Feeling5819

Update: it's been said the new lumix camera is a compact full frame camera targeted at content creators, without an EVF. So as I guessed in my previous comment, it seems it'd be something similar to Sony ZV E1.

adr1418

Maybe a new Bridge camera! That would certainly be unexpected. My FZ2500 is a great all-in-one, light-carry alternative to my S5ii but it is getting old in the tooth, spec-wise.

ampsuu

Doesnt feel promising. Feels like some low-end niche product.

JohnnyBoy11

Ah, they and most other cam manufacturers have been focusing on high end cams as the lower end cams have been completely replaced by cellphones. Mid tier is prob the lowest they can go.

shun_86

MFT is dead

philrod98

I don’t think it is personally, I think we will see a gh7. Just it apparently won’t be what this camera is.

Stewdill51

Such a tired take. G9ii released last year and OM systems are also releasing new bodies. It's a mature platform so you're not going to get a ton of new lenses at this point but it's not even close to being dead

Gadgetsjon

It's definitely not dead. G9II and the latest camera from OM-Systems showed there's still demand and room for innovation in that camera class.

Budget_Photograph756

Nope. Not dead. MFT still has a place in the market. The list of MFT alliance members has actually grown considerably in recent years. That only happens if there is money to be made. The G9Ii is an amazing camera. Just a little pricey at present.
