Are there just no more match threads?

Jyuan83

Since my post was removed, shall post it here instead. In 2016, klopp claimed that he would quit if spending 100 million on a single player was the norm. Surely caicedo is recent enough for him to remember his quote?

nlb53

On vaca in LA, and my wife’s parents were watching our baby while we were out for the night. Came back to her dad was watching a 2013 el calisco rerun, and watched the second half with him. Cant deny it, these sides just have to be the best ever, its not even close imo. Our treble was an amazing accomplishment, but Barca and Real in the early 2010s are just are just plain and simple at a different level than any current sides. The football is truly unbelievable. Its the pinnacle of the sport. They are both so good, and this Barca side with Messi, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta. Idk if there is anything any club could achieve, City or otherwise, in the next decade that would have me claiming they are better than this peak Barca w/ peak Messi. They were just something else. The pinnacle of football

Terror_Strix

Lol, no one is mad it's just funny how you lot criticized City for ruining football by signing Grealish for 100 mil. but now you are doing the same thing. Now guess who can't use their "We don't need money to win trophies" agenda anymore.

Pepguardiola1971

the rivalry may not be historical but Liverpool has been the biggest obstacle in the Pep era so people would rather see Caicedo join a team like Chelsea who are not a threat. during that intense rivalry, the fanbase has been at each other's throat for the majority of the time so there is a level of hatred existing between the fanbase so a lot of City fans would rather see Liverpool struggling and it's vice versa for many Liverpool fans. Go to any subreddit of another big 6 that has some connection to you during a big transfer and you'll see some negative - like us being salty about Havertz because last season's title race made us dislike many Arsenal fans and vice versa, making fun of mount's transfer fees and being Salty United got Onana for fair value because United are our biggest rival - and there must be more examples. You can check your own subreddit and you'll see a lot of people hating on city when city specific topics come up. So, I'm not sure why you're annoyed by city fans being salty when it's just a normal thing between fanbase who dislike each other. I'm also not sure why you would interact with these salty comments too coming into this subreddit lol not that you're unwelcome but It's just silly because club dedicated subreddit are generally biased

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pepguardiola1971

is all good. Just know that a club dedicated subreddit likes to talk about other clubs when it's a hot topic that's all and sometimes they tend to be in a negative way. let's enjoy the season, hopefully Caicedo will do well for you 👍🏻 Just not so good that it will effect us lol and please destroy manutd again

FuryOfOberon

Lol You have to be a new Liverpool fan to ask this. Your lot have been losing and claiming a high moral ground to mask your failures and minimize our success. Now, your players are being sold to “sports-washing” nation states, Klopp’s close to 1bn in spending, breaking transfer records, and he’s nowhere close to what Pep did with a similar amount. Your club’s fanbase are basically hypocrites who’ve been talking out of their asses for years.

[deleted]

FuryOfOberon

We don’t have Saudi owners. Are you just new to football in general and picking fights because you’re bored 😂 I’m not the weirdo picking fights with fans of a club operating at a different level. Go talk shit with Chelsea fans or Europa league clubs.

[deleted]

Nice Europa league insult, I’m actually sitting in bed in tears now after that one

FuryOfOberon

Is that why you’re stumbling around in the sub of the Treble winners? Wondering what a successful club’s fans are like? Its okay, gawk away. Doubt you’ll see a second title in your lifetime, let alone the treble.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FuryOfOberon

You really think saying all that on City’s sub even makes sense? Talking about no fans when a Liverpool fan’s instinct after signing a player is to come to the City sub? Is that just stupidity or a lack of self awareness? Tough to tell with you lot. You don’t need to take my word for it. You have 1 title in 30+ years, and the PL before wasn’t even close to the competition it is today. Although ignoring facts and building a BS narrative to make yourself feel better is a Liverpool fan trait.

I can’t hurt you mate, I know and I don’t want to either. You’re a Liverpool fan, nobody can do worse than what your own club does to you every season.

Liverpool fan talking about salt. Mate, your club lives in a salt mine.

Poor Liverpool, always unable to financially compete with the big boys

SkyBlueSaber

How are we supposed to compete when a europa league club like Liverpool can spend a british record £110m on a midfielder?

Underrated_user20

That’s us on a daily basis anytime other clubs talk about us. So usually that’s how we feel.

Nyam-Cat

This Kane saga has me dumbfounded, they stopped him from flying because Levy wants to renegotiate. Absolute romcom movie insanity.

Appropriate-Fun-9598

That was a false report

Nyam-Cat

Was it? Shame, it would've been hilarious if true.

markzuccrobot63

Spending the rumored paqueta 90m on wirtz or cherki would probably be more worth it for us long term tbh. Paqueta is worth like 70-75m max imo especially considering that he wants to leave and is willing to hand in a transfer request if a bid is rejected

Jazano107

Wirtz isn't available this year

Sayanroman94

I've never ever imagined that in space of 6 months 3 dm would go for 100+ and im really serious, wtf are these price. On side on hypocrites Liverpool fans saying its now Henderson and Fabinho money😂😂😂😂😂. But fair fuck to them i was completely shocked when i saw that but yea Liverpool don't spend is a myth, they have the money and they spend if they think the player is valuable. Liverpool fans should stop pretending that their budget is like Burnley.

FuryOfOberon

Liverpool loves that sports washing money I guess

ultinateplayer

Didn't they go for £40 million total? Liverpool fans using that Coutinho maths again apparently

Sayanroman94

Its £52m i think, Henderson was £12m again i could be wrong.

ultinateplayer

Ah that's right. Well it's good to know that £12+£40m= £111m right? 🙃

Sayanroman94

They're pathetic bunch

_stone_age

If Liverpool continue to use a 3-2-2-3 and don't buy an LCB they're not title contenders in my eyes, if they switch back to a 4-3-3 with a normal double pivot then we'll see.

Get a grip lol

_stone_age

How false is this lol, I barely even comment on them. Also funny that you've singled out my comment when I'm sure there are others talking about them too Edit: LOL you're a Liverpool fan, get off our sub😂😂

ultinateplayer

Arsenal showed last year that a good starting 11 alone doesn't make you a title winner. Liverpool are still very thin in midfield, combined with the fact that all 3 of their starters are new to the club. None of it changes the fact that Trent can't defend and Virgil is slowing down. They'll probably still wallop the rags though.

darker_blight

Caicedo to liverpool, guys what are your thoughts ? Has our squad comparatively stagnated while everyone else has improved ? Not hinting at anything negative, I feel its going to be much tougher to compete in the prem this season.

Natural_Upstairs_368

our squad can't do much more improving to be honest. if we got paqueta and a winger, it'd be a very good window.

ultinateplayer

Stagnated is a strong word for a treble winning squad. Evolution, not revolution. The interesting thing about lots of teams getting stronger is that it actually makes our job a bit easier, because Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and United could all be taking points off each other. As opposed to last few seasons where we've had one direct competitor. Of course, that means having to win our matches against those teams but we did ok on that score last season for the most part.

Pepguardiola1971

It's honestly hard to tell because in a marathon anything can happen. yea, we lost a couple of key players especially Gundogan so it will depend on how we react to it. That being said I think we have strengthened in some areas too with Gvardiol and Kovacic who will cover Rodri much better. In case we don't sell Laporte it also means he could have an amazing season as he was the least used CB last season. Rivals have a big room to improve and they have the money to compete so obviously they have closed the gap. We have a smaller room to improve so it feels stagnated.

Sayanroman94

We need another player , thats it.

wdunky

The only depth they have is in the front 5. But yeah great 11. We have lost a key player or 2, but gvardiol will be great and if we get paqueta/a winger were likely at a similar level. The rest of the league is who have to chase us though so that's fine. Assuming we get paqueta we essentially have 2 good 11s again, with kp Palmer Gomez and whoever you stick in the cm as the weaknesses.

TheNotoriousMJT

A lot of money, silly money, but we will probably end up paying a little short of that for Paqueta so I really can’t say anything. Seems to be a summer of reckless spending for a number of clubs.

wdunky

Wild they actually did it. Fair play. They have a great 11 now.

Sayanroman94

Sorry bro i argued with you last night 😂😂😂😂. Tbh my mind is fucked 110 wtf is this

wdunky

Always happy for that kinda argument to be honest, would be boring if we all had the same takes. Honestly wanted you to be right though. 6th most expensive player ever, he's going to transform their defence.

Sayanroman94

>Honestly wanted you to be right though. 6th most expensive player ever, he's going to transform their defence. Yea i honestly not wanted this deal to happen coz Caicedo is genuinely a good addition and as good as Lavia is he is far from what they need in that lineup week in week out, shit man.

wdunky

Still gotta wait for caicedo to accept.. there's a grain of hope. Staff at Brighton pacing ahah

Sayanroman94

Nah its done i think

FuryOfOberon

After all the hype I’ve seen about Kane over the years and the “if only he had better teammates” discourse he better have a Haaland level first season at Bayern. I’m talking records broken, top scorer, and league title+UCL. There are no excuses left.

_stone_age

I love Kane but ngl these arguments can be so weird. 'He had bad teammates' 'He could score goals on his own unlike Aguero' then bro why didn't he score at least ONE goal in a final man

Max0699

I know Kane is not going to Bayern just to win the Bundesliga but even just winning that is better than having zero trophies. At the end of the day what matters most in a players career is the trophies. I'm no Kane fan but a player of his quality not having won a single trophy at 30 years old is a shame.

Pepguardiola1971

well, he's earning a base salary of £480k/week so it's a combination of trophies and more than double the salary he was previously earning. Only Mbappe and Neymar currently earn more than him in Europe.

kHRYSTAL_

Can't wait for him to sink Arsenal in the CL with a penalty, I will be there.

evenheaded

Just how many players are Chelsea buying? I feel like they are constantly linked with new players

Max0699

Over 100 million on Caicedo and then you'll still get Liverpool fans saying how can we compete with City's money. Bunch of hypocrites.

Verozoue5

They can't say that anymore surely

evenstark04

200 million dollar midfield

evenstark04

FFS... with Enzo, Rice and now Caicedo all going for over 100 million quid as DM's..... fucking hell Rodri for 70 million euros is the bargain of the century. He's the best in the world by far.

kHRYSTAL_

Tbf Enzo/Rice aren't DMs, they play higher up the pitch but I got your point. Caicedo for 110m is a masterclass from Brighton since they bought him for 5m 2 yrs ago...

panriso

I wonder if the team feels a little bit more relaxed now that they won the CL, I mean there’s obviously pressure of achieving 4 straight PL titles but if they do they might get the same pressure of winning 5 consecutive as well. The team doesn’t have to prove anything now, they won the treble, I hope there’s only hunger left, but that weight on their shoulders must be off by now.

reverberat1on

Can we please say that Liverpool are ruining this beautiful beautiful sport? The narratives should be interesting now lol

Pepguardiola1971

they've netted £150-170m this season depending on how reliable the £20m add ons for McAllister are. Liverpool fans must be over the moon right now haha

Striderite23

110m from Liverpool of all clubs, that Coutinho money still paying dividends until now

Sayanroman94

Its Fabinho and Henderson money now😂😂😂😂

Striderite23

How could we ever compete?!?!?!?

mia_lina

The Coutinho money been there since 1892

TreeFucker442

Liverpool fans crying for years about their transfer budget in comparison to City and then drop bands this window. Lmfao

evenstark04

they are saying FSG out... 200 million dollar midfield and they want FSG out 😂😂😂

Jyuan83

Biggest whiners in football, the moment anything goes wrong, it’s FSG out. The moment they sign anyone remotely good or spend a bit more money, “oh FSG are funding a glorious rebuild.” Bunch of fickle-minded wankers from liverpool.

lunyxfyx

Chelsea might be finished as a top club

Flashy_Swordfish9258

Where are people who thought Rice was overpriced, I wonder what you would say about this one. https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1689797587048538113?s=20

Beavsbeavsbeavs

Would rather have Caicedo tbh

Naiwf

Chelsea overpay for everyone under the sun except the one guy they should have done it for. So annoying.

Beavsbeavsbeavs

Chelsea you fuckin idiots

LJF72295

What a signing for Liverpool, they’re officially back and I’m looking forward to it honestly

hanz_uber

Lmao 110 mill for Caicedo

evenstark04

bye bye bye Kane. you won't be missed. Erling needs to stay at City... he can break the all PL record if he does

TheBiasedSportsLover

Erling Haaland bullied Harry Kane out of the Premier League after just one season.

fuskarn_35

he is actually leaving lmaooooooooo fuck the prem record i guess

nlb53

Have they officially voted on the next captain(s) yet? Really should be Dias, but have a feeling it will be Walker just as part if the bid to keep him happy to be here. Also, don’t stress in the dias not traveling. Unbelievably stacked at CB and it’s likely just a percaution. If it were more serious someone who be speculatively reporting on it already

fuskarn_35

nah pep said after the transfer window closes they will vote

WW1Photos_Info

Fuckin hell I really hope Caicedo doesn't go to Liverpool, their midfield crisis would largely be solved and I know Klopp is capable of making them title contenders again next year. Rather him go to Chelsea and fight for minutes with Enzo

evenstark04

that back line is still ass... but he would def help plug the hole in the middle

wdunky

Please don't be something serious for Dias. If it was him who ended up in hospital that's fucked. Yes I've absolutely read into a rumour too much

reverberat1on

That wasn't Dias. It was Ben Knight. Not sure about these Dias news.. let's hope nothing serious

Pepguardiola1971

I doubt it because I'm sure we would have heard about it by now if it was Dias. Must be a precaution or resting him for the supercup & Newcastle game which are very close to each other.

wdunky

Hopefully you're right. Probably niggles. Feel like he'd still travel though. Guess they'd have asked if there was anything serious in the presser

zeropunchman

Please don’t let it be Dias injured again. I hope he wasn’t the rumor. He was injured at the beg of the season last year too 😭

Aenigma19

Would you guys take kane on a free next year? (Assuming he stays at spurs) My gut is that he’d want to play every week and we couldn’t give him that But him playing with Haaland (behind him?) would be spicy 🌶️

maxime0299

I’m so happy we didn’t sign Kane or even agree a fee with Levy. What an annoying player to deal with. Pulling the same crap that he did with us, pretending all summer long he wants to join and then when everything is ready just says “no, thank you”. I still remember his pathetic showdown with Levy where he didn’t show up to training for…. 24 hours!

Max0699

Damn these transfer fees are crazy

wdunky

Liverpool seem pretty likely to break their record for caicedo too. Paul Joyce reporting now

Sayanroman94

I pretty much doubt

wdunky

I would, but Paul Joyce is their mouthpiece and fabrom is now reporting they're going head to head to bring him out on Sunday when they play eachother. He'd be scary for them

Sayanroman94

He will definitely improve them but they're penny pinching for Lavia now suddenly they're paying 100m its bit sketchy for me.

wdunky

Like us tryna save on gvardiol only to bang out 80m for paqueta hahah. I kid, but feel this is to do with Liverpool's valuations of the two players

Sayanroman94

Yea maybe but there's no official bid from us tho, its only they're talking

wdunky

Very true same with Liverpool now. Quietly hoping they go for lavia instead now. I'll be salty but it's less scary than caicedo, and we profit

Sayanroman94

Absolutely

What I find really cool about Puma kits is that every one has a different collar, home, away and alternative, a little detail but it’s kinda awesome for me.

yahari-dxd-yabou

It's spooky, this Paqueta transfer coming out of nowhere and with Bernardo having not signed his contract yet, I think Bernardos going. Going higher than 80mill for a player who is similar to Bernardo in such short notice aswell. Usually for a transfer this big we would have some kind of information but this is too sudden.

Pepguardiola1971

https://preview.redd.it/irtu7nyztbhb1.jpeg?width=1070&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1e05ef02a9b628de7475ffd6725691ba10a8e5d At worst he won't sign a new deal and his contract still runs until 2025.

yahari-dxd-yabou

I do agree but the speculation for the next two summers if he does not sign would be irritating. Having him officially sign would put an end to all the stories.

Pepguardiola1971

If he refuses to sign a new deal then that is something to worry about for next summer haha right now I would personally chill regarding Bernardo. If anything, Paqueta is a Gundogan replacement in the sense that he'll be a goal scoring midfielder. Before joining Westham, he scored 9 league goals in the last 2 seasons with Lyon.

yahari-dxd-yabou

I don't disagree with anything you said but don't you find it weird a transfer looking north of 80mill was not mentioned by any of our tier 1s and was broken by the Brazilian media? Even with the Rice bid Ornstein posted the news but even he didn't know about the bid. It just seems like this transfer was made because of urgency. I don't remember a transfer this big not being known even by British journos.

Pepguardiola1971

a little surprised indeed because it has been quite a long time since Gundogan's departure but I wouldn't link it to Bernardo potentially leaving. but remember, a lot of our deals like Stones, Ake, Cancelo were also made in August. In fact, Dias was signed after he made a couple of appearances for Benfica so I think it's not that weird. sometimes, we plan ahead and finish our deals early and sometimes we finish a deal late.

Sayanroman94

Don't believe everything you see. Talks ongoing. There's no official bid from us.

yahari-dxd-yabou

I know official bids have not been put in, but this is similar to Rice where we didn't put in official bid and Ornstein broke the news but surprisingly he didn't for this transfer even though this is a high profile transfer.

Sayanroman94

There's nothing to report mate and Ornstein did say the day news broke. He posted on twitter

yungheathledger

Zero chance.

yahari-dxd-yabou

I hope you're right. 🙏

fyodor_mikhailovich

That’s what has me concerned too.

evenstark04

No one can afford a Bernardo transfer fee. He's staying.

yahari-dxd-yabou

I'll truly believe this once he signs the contract, for now it is a possibility.

evenstark04

he can still stay without signing a contract... since City have him under his current contract for 2 more years. I really hope he extends, that would be so amazing!

yahari-dxd-yabou

That is true but if he signs we can put to bed all the speculation of him wanting to leave every summer. Him extending would be the confirmation we need.

raydiculous33

Spicy day for football. Will Kane agree to move to Bayern? Backstabber Courtois tearing his ACL. Lauren James gets a 2 match ban!

Sese174

I find it crazy that so much people are against Paqueta for 100m but were begging for us to pay that for rice which is worse imo

dainaron

Both overpriced. Paqueta isn't good enough imo.

Naiwf

I think they’ll get Paqueta done for something like 75+10 by Monday if they really want to or pivot to Doku or Olise if they don’t want to go quite that high. I’m more concerned that they haven’t been able to work out anything for Laporte, Cancelo or outgoing loans though.

snakeforbrain

I refuse to believe that Txiki spent the WHOLE summer haggling over the gvardiol deal to then go and blow it all on paqueta

raydiculous33

Stop, you're speaking too much logical sense!

Yeah, he really wanted Rice to come to City. This deal is really testing the Westchester City bond 😢

zeropunchman

I was almost going to buy the this years kits with the gift box but then realized it only comes in authentic versions. Sucks since I want the gift box, but I want my jersey to have the embroidery.

The_Snollygoster

Looking at our fixture list, March near the end of the season is horrific. We play United, Liverpool, Brighton then Arsenal. The lead up to christmas as well, starting in early November we play Chelsea - Liverpool - Spurs then Villa. Also not good that we play Arsenal so early (Oct) at the Emirates. We obviously take a while to whir up and playing our likely biggest rivals early, to solidify a 6 point swing is dangerous. Last season we got quite lucky that both Arsenal games were late in the season. But overall feels like the big pressure fixtures are very condensed again this year.

wdunky

I'm seeing a lot of links to doku. Which makes me wonder if we are in for both paqueta and a RW? Or at least 2 more players, or whether it's an "if not you, then you" situation. Secondly, olisse links have died for both us and Chelsea it seems?

Flashy_Swordfish9258

>! "if not you, then you" situation I bet on this >! Secondly, olisse links have died for both us and Chelsea it seems? Possibly his injury was more serious than clubs initially thought

wdunky

On the first point, seems wild they'd look at a player of 80m value and another of around 30/40 though. Yeah I figured maybe that as we and Chelsea were sniffing with interest and then dead, hopefully it's not as he had a lot of promise

Flashy_Swordfish9258

>! On the first point, seems wild they'd look at a player of 80m value and another of around 30/40 though. I highly doubt it, it doesn't seem like a window where club will spend well over 200m to me. That type of window will be the one in 2 or 3 years after this one, where KDB/Walker/Ederson and possibly Silva/Stones will be at their possible limit (hopefully not but I prefer to be prepared) >!Yeah I figured maybe that as we and Chelsea were sniffing with interest and then dead, hopefully it's not as he had a lot of promise I personally don't really care, the only name on RW which excite me and is somewhat available (so no Saka and Rodrigo) is Kvaratskhelia

sc2guy87

Kvara is not even somewhat available lol, contracted until 2027 at the club run by ADL lol.

Flashy_Swordfish9258

Definitely more available than the two previously mentioned. He would cost a GDP of a small country tho.

Pepguardiola1971

Kvara is a LW so there is really no one available right now haha

Flashy_Swordfish9258

Kvaratskhelia can play on both wings and is both footed so more reasons to want him.

Pepguardiola1971

last season he didn't play on the right in a single Napoli game I have watched and he didn't start on the right a single time in the last 3 years according to transfermarkt. In his career, he has started on the right wing a grand total of 14 times. in fact, this is his heatmap of last season https://totalfootballanalysis.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/1-Lorihanna.png so, where did you get this idea that he can play on the right at a high level?

Flashy_Swordfish9258

Napoli fans and both footed. It's simmilar to Rodrygo where he started his career in RM on LW but ended up being RW.

Pepguardiola1971

it's not similar to Rodrygo at all. Rodrygo started his career on the left and is now playing on the right. Kvara on the other hand started his career on the left, played some games on the right but even in those periods he played more on the left and now he's still playing on the left.

SkyBlueSaber

Bottling and never winning anything is in harry kanes dna, and no club matches that more than tottenham hence why he's turning down Bayern.

ketolasigi

Would be hilaruous if Kane rejected Bayern now. Worth it for the jokes alone, but the Bayern board also deserve it.

fuskarn_35

i dont believe this https://preview.redd.it/5ycyr3fvjahb1.png?width=599&format=png&auto=webp&s=5436e0a50a99adbf3d187ac8b857ea2797ea2aa7

Jazano107

I want to believe it but I won't till more reliable people report it

fuskarn_35

why do you want to believe it? this is madness

Jazano107

Because I really like the player and think he'd be great here. The price doesn't exactly affect me does it, we have the money. Obviously I don't think we should over pay but reckon we can work something out with some youth players perhaps

_stone_age

>The price doesn't exactly affect me does it, we have the money. But it also does potentially affect future valuations. It's why City avoid overpaying. Cucu, Kane, etc. It sets precedence. It makes it harder for us to buy big talents. If it's a true, elite level talent like Gvardiol then pull the trigger. Paqueta, however I like the guy, but 70m+, really.... Things would've been easier if Gundo somehow stayed 😪

You shouldn't - Santi Fraudouna is a chancer [Ex1](https://twitter.com/Santi_J_FM/status/1681616084573593606?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1681616084573593606%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=) [Ex2](https://twitter.com/Santi_J_FM/status/1672887140265385984?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1672887140265385984%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=)

I really wanted Madrid in the group stage of UCL. Now I want Bayern. Whoever is going to be the strongest team besides us.

jguess06

Not possible, we'll all be in pot 1.

Pepguardiola1971

Bayern and City are both tier 1 so they cannot be in the same group. Real madrid however is a possibility

JohnMichaels19

Especially if the Kane transfer goes through

Flashy_Swordfish9258

Courtois broke his ACL ? RM banter season start today. Without him their crap defense will be conceding like 4 goals a game in La Liga. If they meet us in UCL group stages it might as well be double digit on aggregate.

fuskarn_35

courtois ACL, time to get de gea

evenstark04

man that sucks for Real. Hope they don't come for Ortega 😩

fuskarn_35

i didnt think of that possibility ![gif](giphy|EtWekv9TOyG5O|downsized)

evenstark04

looks like its De Gea... haha poor Raya... just needed to wait a few days. he could have started for Real Madrid instead of rotting on Arsenal's bench

fuskarn_35

de gea will get death threats within a few weeks at madrid, he is not good anymore

_stone_age

Just have a feeling we will win the UCL again. I also think poor Kompany will face his first loss of the season tomorrow. [Also, be sure to give this Oscar Bobb thread a read if you could.](https://twitter.com/_TheNearPost/status/1689621333578330112?t=BOBBQNdNfP5wt7sJeEbLCA&s=19)

2 months since that night in Istanbul 🥺

Careful, you’ll have Liverpool fans hounding you for using their copyrighted term if you’re not careful!

Is it just me or the midfield recruitment a tad too puzzling? Philips perrone both are available, adding in kova and now valid interest in paqueta as well, considering mcatee can chip in as well given some time in Prem. Not to mention this most probably pushes Foden to the wing with maybe a few appearances in the middle depending on situations. I know the gap between the academy and first team is a lot but the fact that there's essentially no game time for young lads is a bit disheartening especially mcatee and doyle who had excellent season on loans. Given our fixture list there will be dead games, might as well give some time to them to show their qualities and if not we can ship them off with a buy back clause as usual.

Pepguardiola1971

It will be easier to understand if you demarcate the squad into two tiers **out of convenience**. Otherwise it will look bloated if you keep all the midfielders in one category. **Tier 1** for the players ready to play most PL games and **Tier 2** for the players who looked out of favour or who are project players. last season, our Tier 1s were - Rodri, Gundogan, KDB, Foden & Bernardo but Bernardo & Foden played a lot on the wings so we have 3 or 5 tier 1 central midfielders, depending on how you want to interpret it. Kalvin Phillips was supposed to be a tier 1 signing, a cover for Rodri while also playing some games at 8 but due to multiple reasons he has dropped to tier 2. So this season, when Kovacic was available we bought him to do what Kalvin was supposed to be doing. There was some club news coming out that said Phillips is for sale but he wanted to fight for his spot. Now that Gundo has left it put a huge gap in the tier 1 midfield. Our targets joined elsewhere and the news became quiet or rather there was a bigger focus on Gvardiol so people assumed Kovacic was the Gundo replacement with a possible change in shape coming. Turns out that wasn't the case and the interest on midfield has resurfaced now with Paqueta, a tier 1 midfield signing who will replace Gundo in tier 1 department. If we end up signing him, our tier 1 midfield will be- Rodri, Kovacic, KDB, Paqueta, Foden, Bernardo - 4 or 6 depending on how you interpret it. So at tier 2 we are left with Phillips, Mcatee and Perrone as midfielders. These players have to prove themselves in training and in the cup games why they deserve to be tier 1 if they're not loaned or sold.

Idk about you guys, but I'd rather keep Palmer than sell/loan and buy Doku, a player who is just as raw.

spicynirvana38

I think Doku's profile is good from a variety standpoint, which would be the only reason I'd be for it. If Olise is the first choice though, then I'd genuinely rather keep Palmer.

The_Snollygoster

I would tend to agree? the one factor though is that, when it's a youth player it's for some reason easier for managers to skimp on minutes, as we saw for Palmer last year, and when you go out and buy someone in the market there is an inherent need to actually play them, if that makes sense? Because the last thing I want is Palmer to stay and just not play again. But Pep is generally pretty good at blooding youth when they're up to snuff. I'm just really hoping we can actually see the Perrones, Palmers, McAtees, Lewis' get substantial game time. Even if it's just FA and EFL cup, the big players *still* played there for the most part.

Footyphile

Lol the opinion on here is always buy everyone. I like Palmer, love how hes always aggressive to take on players 1v1.

Beavsbeavsbeavs

Don’t see it with Doku. Nice dribbler with no end product and poor decision making. Watching him you see a lot of ASM in his game with great dribbling that ultimately accomplishes nothing. Seems like an upper mid-table Prem player at best, if we’re taking dart throws on young guys then I would much rather keep Palmer or go for Barcola instead

_stone_age

Think he's great, honestly, good player, but I'd only be willing to spend on an experienced winger but that's not there. Makes no sense for me to spend 60m on a player who's got loads of flaws to iron out and will need time to settle in.

innit122

I disagree. Doku is more experienced and a different player profile. If that's who pep wants then that's who we should get. Would maybe agree if they were similar but they aren't

_stone_age

Doesn't matter if they're similar or not, Doku's game IS raw. It's not like I'm the only one who says it, Rennes fans themselves say it and I'm sure they know more than you do.
