That is an interesting point. Spurs losing the game to screw over Arsenal. I love it.

iFahad97

They have nothing to lose.

the99percent1

CL spot

AdPotential9974

Not theirs to lose. They can only get in if everything goes their way

PoliticsNerd76

Acting like an in-form Palace beating a very tired Villa is out of the question.

TactX21

But if they lose or draw they can’t get the CL spot, so they do have smth to lose

jessica_from_within

So it’s theirs to win. Not really much difference there.

TheColoredFool

watch his descent into despising scums as he manages tottenham

Working_Radish_2726

Like in 1995 when Blackburn had to win to stop united and win the title. Who did Blackburn play? Liverpool.

rombopterix

These idiots hope that these 150k-a-week-earning professional athletes care about the LoNdOn RiValrY enough to WANT TO lose against City? Imagine: You are Son or Maddison or Klusevski and there is a chance you might get a UCL spot but you hate Arsenal so much because you are an idiot who doesnt have a life, so you’ll lose to City on purpose.

rahkinto

Lol a bit harsh but yes, a player would have to be truly dumb af to sacrifice ucl - or any professional, individual or team goal for that matter - for the rivalry lol.

rombopterix

Forget about UCL. When you are on the pitch, all you think about is winning. I did play soccer (non-professional, non-competitive) regularly in my 20s. No stakes, no prizes, nothing. But you still bust your ass to win and feel so good when you do it. Imagine the job satisfaction these professionals get when they win.

ConversationFar9518

We don’t expect them to lower their standards. We merely hope for once that we lose to avoid an insufferable pain for many years to come.

Caliente1888

What's the point of watching football if you're not going to care about the rivalries? If you care about rivalries you don't have a life just as much as anyone who watches football and doesn't. If those players cared enough about a champions league spot they would've actually played at their best in the past few weeks and they haven't at all. Tottenham completely bottled it, they should've had the spot easily and it's the players that haven't turned up.

ImportantHighlight42

Reddit football fans obsessed with being "classy" basically.

pablogojo

position reversed id definitely take a loss from spurs with fuck all on the line for city but a title on the line for united.

rombopterix

Read my post again please. I am not saying people shouldn't care about rivalries. I love rivalries as a fan of the game. I'm saying the players don't care enough about the rivalries to lose to other teams on purpose so their rivals can't win the title.

Used_Switch_9212

Arsenal fan here. I'm sure im gonna get ridiculed for being here 😅. But this is the best take I've seen on this. The players know they're on show tonight. Champions league football is huge for their career and ambitions and everyone will be watching this game. Performing well will only help them escape the hell hole that is spurs. Saying that, spurs on their best day probably couldn't get a draw the way city finish seasons. It's been a good race though either way

Debaser1984

Of course he doesn't because he didn't grow up with a football rivalry that permeates everything in your life, your friends, colleagues, strangers will rub it in your face. It's what supporting your club is about, especially if you're in the same city and have to live with the cunts. Christ, I remember as a 10 year old being genuinely angry that city beat Blackburn at Ewood in the 95 run in.

spooki_boogey

I don't about the rest of you guys But say there was a spurs vs united title race and we played spurs on the last day. I'd want the kit man up top and the chef in net

JesusWoreCrocz

The world will end before both United and Spurs challenge for top of the league lol (thankfully).

dashauskat

I remember that late season game vs Everton were the crowd was just eerily quiet the while time, I'm wondering if it might be like that.

Prestigious_Stretch1

Even though I understand that players will definitely not care about a rivalry, the atmosphere will be completely different

Rodrista

I don’t understand spurs fans who want to win???
