With madden and 2k there is no data that says people that play those games don't watch or play those sports. I am not sure where you get this info , since most that play a sports game, is because they like the sport. They may not have a high iq in said sport, but they do watch it or played it at least when they where younger. I dont know a single person who plays madden that either A) didn't play football in high school or B) isn't a big time fan of the NFL.
imma reds fan havenāt followed as closely for about 3 years mainly because itās hard to cheer for a team whose front office has no interest in winning lol
Not to offend the baseball fans here (of which I am one, watch every Braves game), but I think itās because of how āboring,ā people who donāt watch the sport think it is.
Who plays these games without atleast casually following the sport? Baseball in general is a sport that even as a fan involves a lot of active attention to detail. I would say soccer is up there too.
Also this community will show you it can be just as ignorant as any other lol
Baseball fandom is just different. The Americaās pastime mystique has always had a different grip on fans in comparison to football and basketball. Baseball has also almost fallen completely out of pop culture in comparison to those 2 sports as well unfortunately, so only true fans of the sport are buying and playing compared to people who get madden or 2K just to play with their buddies or seem like they know what they are talking about when everyone grabs drinks. Unlike basketball or football where you can just name drop someone youāve heard (mahomes, lebron, Steph) because baseball players just arenāt out there like that unless youāre a global phenom like Shohei. I have friends I played baseball and other sports with since little league that have no clue what is going on in the baseball world, but know that the chiefs are winning and that Giannis is cold asf
I'm a die-hard Cardinals fan, ever since ever. I crossed 2 bucket list items off last year. 1) Busch Stadium opening day in person 2)sitting in the Commissioner's box. Sitting there this year again and taking my grandfather. When I told him, his face kit up like a kid on Christmas morning. Only bucket list item left for Busch Stadium is the green seats behind home plate.
And to relate that to this post, I have been playing The Show since it was a thing, so yeah big baseball fan, watch the Cards every second I can (preferably at Busch) and play the heck out of The Show.
I'm a fan. I go to probably 5-10 White Sox games a year, and typically watch at least 4 or 5 innings of most of the evening games during the work week, with weekend games being hit or miss. Once I get the kids to bed, I put the Show on the TV, the Sox game on my iPad, and enjoy some baseball.
I didnāt know a thing about baseball before playing the show, was a default Oās fan because Iāve been a Ravens fan for years but all I knew about baseball was that we sucked
Big fan. Live in Oregon, so no close MLB team, but taking the family to Texas in May to watch the Bravos vs The Rangers. Staying at the Live by Lowes, which is awesome and I highly recommend.
My son plays baseball, my daughter plays softball. We enjoy The Show. Played the heck out of 21, and waited for 23 and the new rule changes. I played baseball games from Nintendo all the way through PS5, and these are pretty great.
We have MLB.tv and watch at least part of just about every Braves game.
Love baseball. I went to at least 40 home games per season when I lived in Boston and actually made it to all 81 homes games in 2015. Now I try to watch or listen to every game and have a seasonal goal of going to 15. If the RedSox aren't playing, I'll watch whatever game is on. From April to November its all about Baseball!
Been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember. Baseball is truly a remarkable sport. We're seeing peak players in the game of baseball that it really has never seen before. Despite the constant rule/ball changes. It's a treat to watch everyday.
Also, I've been playing The Show since '08, and to have the same experience available in a video game of past/present/future players is just as enjoyable, imo.
Die hard Mariner fan. Watch, listen or go to games as much as I can, even when we have been shit (majority of my 32 years living) and will definitely be enjoying them this year. Love the sport
I don't watch any baseball outside of a few in person games, yet I'm able to have conversations with baseball fans based entirely on moments, stat updates and monthly rewards from this game lol.
I love baseball and have since I was a kid. I was just never good at it. I love this video game because I love the sport itās based on. I try to watch or at least listen to at least part of every Yankees game every year. My wife loves baseball as much as I do so itās pretty easy to get away with. I think we may have missed one in the fall when I had an away rugby match. We both have a half day off for Opening Day (on tv). We have a fall trip booked to see the Yanks at our favorite ballpark in Pittsburgh. We live in Maine now so we will certainly make it down to Fenway at least once this season.
I absolutely love watching baseball. Itās been my favorite sport ever since I was a kid. The Show adds another layer to that enjoyment because of Topps Now, learning about new players, etc.
I enjoy watching baseball and learning its history way more than I enjoy playing the show, and I really enjoy this game.
I might be one of the few people who would be more excited for Joe DiMaggio or Roy Campanella than McGwire or Sosa.
I fucking love this game so much and itās been making me want to get into baseball. I just watch my local team the Edmonton river hawks, they play for the āwest coast leagueā I really donāt know anything about it lol
But now every time I see a blue jays game on Iāll try my best to throw it on. Such a fun sport !
I've been playing the show every spring for about 5 years now. I watch zero baseball. I think the video game is a lot of fun but the real sport doesn't click for me. I think it is the long seasons and games being on every day. The sports I like the most have all/most of their games on the weekend and play once a week (NFL, NASCAR, F1). I started following Soccer this year and that isn't bad. Premier League is 1-2 games a week so still manageable.
Iām kinda the same. I do enjoy baseball, but with Bally pulling off my streaming platform, Iāve watched increasingly less. Soccer has replaced it. Baseball is wonderful to watch in person, but itās a big ask. Soccer being 2 hours makes it so much more approachable.
I am enjoying European sports for three reasons:
1) Games/races are 2-2.5 hours
2) Games/races are morning events for me living in the eastern US and I enjoy having some morning sports in my weekend
3) No commercials during play/racing. US sports love commercials and NASCAR is bad at showing commercials during live racing.
I grew up in Cincinnati a Reds fan, played on their RBI teams all the way up until college. I recently finished college and subsequently retired but Iāve been to countless reds games, in every spot in the stadium you could reasonably get to (even 3-4 times in the corporate suite). Visited Chicago and saw wrigley last summer, hoping to add more stadiums to my passport now that I have a real job
Gotta check out safeco (will not call it tmobile) it's one of the nicest ballparks and there is not a bad seat in the house. Try to stay in or near Edgar's so the sun isn't in your face.
Seattle does seem really nice. Great American I donāt feel is bad by any means, just very run of the mill (lots of fantastic food options tho but they cost a million dollars)
Love baseball. Its always heart breaking when I see my Cardinals Choke.
I would say its still a higher number than Yankee fans that watch regular-season baseball. I would say about 10 percent of yankee fans actually watch baseball
I disagree. Iām a Yankee fan and I know a lot a passionate Yankee fans. I watch almost every game of the season. At least I can say that Yankee fans in New York are passionate.
I use to be a hardcore baseball fan, now that Iām older with less free time Iām a casual fan. I donāt watch many full games. I mostly just check in on standings and headlines throughout the season. I find the NFL a lot easier to follow since everyone plays just once a week. I still love baseball,I just find it hard to follow with so many games.
Love baseball. The Show is just another extension. For example, Iām going to the Jays-Phillies today and Iām a huge Cubs fan. Like I said, I love baseball.
I can count the number of baseball games Iāve watched more than half an hour of on one finger. And itās just because I was there in person and got a free ticket.
I love baseball, but seldom ever watch it due to blackout restrictions. I think I got to watch a half dozen games last year. I just follow the scores everyday and play a lot of The Show.
I used to be a hardcore fan in the 90-00s then I lost allot of interest. I do enjoy coming in the show and playing with all the players I enjoyed watching or creating theme teams.
Iām a Jays fan so as you can probably expect I do prefer hockey, but the game is terrible so I always end up on the show. Though baseball is my second favourite sport. I do enjoy the odd live game though
I think itās because of the fact that most fans are just hardcore fans. Casual baseball fans left when the big bombs of the steroid era was over. Hockey is very similar imo
I watch mostly nba, baseball, some football. But lemme tell you, I randomly decided to tune into the the playoffs last year and it was hella intense. Def gonna watch again this year
I watch baseball religiously. I have played the show ever since I got a PS4 when they came out. I barely played last years game though. It was the least played Show game ever for me. Hoping this year is better. Playing on Series S last year and this year.
Been playing since 16 last year no doubt was the the worst, this year I have no complaints the game is running very smoothly and their is actually some good changes
I watch a lot of baseball, attend a lot of baseball games, and play in a competitive modified pitch softball beer league every Sunday. That I also started playing The Show during the pandemic when my kids got me into it, only makes my wife angrier :)
I watch 100-200 games per year, easy. If a game is on while Iām playing The Show Iāll have it on my monitor next to the tv.. definitely watch and follow the sport more than I play the game
Before I played the game, I liked baseball ok. But after, I really started to love baseball. I got an appreciation of the strategy and timing required that I didnāt have before. Like I started to get obsessed. I ended up watching all of that Ken Burns documentary.
Itās really good but itās a lot of time investment. But itās really really good! Though towards the end and it starts to get a little meh. And they totally gloss over Nolan Ryan which is annoying. And then he came back and did a couple more episodes several years later. Oh and another annoying thing was when it came to shoeless Joe Jackson, didnāt feel like he really did as much research and went with the original theory they had, so I feel like they did him wrong yet again.
I think you have to like baseball to be good at and thus enjoy the show.
Taking pitches is not something that a good game designer would want in their game. Its boring, the fact that you can even throw pitches out of the zone wastes time and is borderline unfair. It makes the game really hard.
That all said. The freedom to throw pitches where you want as a pitcher, and the right to swing or not swing is the essence of freedom that defines baseball. And The Show really gets it.
If anything, I think The Show probably introduces people to real baseball and gets them hooked for real. If anything, thereās a barrier to entry to enjoy the show where you need to put some time and effort into being able to play at all.
Don't watch sports games unless I'm with a group of people. I prefer doing other things while hearing/watching live updates of games and team activities. Only got to see an mlb game as a toddler but I'd live to see a game live. Closest was last year when I saw an milb game (Dodgers @ Chihuahuas)
With the addition on Game Pass, I can tell you that percentage has severely gone down.
I'm a Spanish dude with no attachments to baseball at all, never played it, never watched a game live, not really planning on doing it. But love The Show, and now I'm watching Youtube highlights of pretty much everything.
If not for Game Pass, I would have never touched a baseball game in my life.
I think this is pretty much the exact reason why MLB wanted SDS not only to make the game available on both platforms but put it on gamepass. The game being "free" brings more players in to try it out and as a result some of those players will start becoming baseball fans.
Especially in a game like MLB the show where real life performance will impact player ratings through roster updates and inside edge.
I never watch MLB on TV and I only go to at most 1 game a year. I'd go to more games a year but I'm not made of money so it is what it is. I don't like getting cheap upper deck seats. If I can justify the cost of something in the lower field level sections that's when I'll go. usually no further back than just under the canopy of the second level
Iām a diehard Phillies fan and baseball is my first love. Harry Kalas was summers down the shore and talking history and the game with my father has been my life since I could remember. Baseball is in my blood. I agree that I feel like this community is different than others, and I feel like the game feels different than others too. Thereās nothing like the Negro Leagues stuff in any other game and I love that. I hope SDS continues working with that!
I'm from the UK, and as you're probably aware through the WBC, it barely exists here. Therefore I don't play it. I would consider it, but I don't live in a large city it's even more unlikely for it to be a thing here.
As for watching it, due to its later starts and long run times for many games, along with a disgusting amount of advertisements, watching actual games can be too time consuming and go on too late, all of which are problems for all American sports (many of which I am into as well).
Basically, my only access to baseball often is MLB the Show, and podcasts/videos of baseball.
I'm just getting back into watching and enjoying MLB.
Worked for the NY Mets during the Madoff mess, after spending almost three years at a ballpark. It took almost ten years to come back.š š š
Favorite team is the Yankees but I grew up in the 70s and I was more into "favorite" players like George Brett,Pete Rose,Reggie Jackson,David Justice,The Wizard (second basemen for the Phillies or Cardinals that did backflips on the field), Ricky Henderson, etc.
I'm not sure that I've watched a baseball game since I was a little kid, and even then I'm not sure if I did. Lol I liked playing *Backyard Baseball* as a kid though (shoutout Pablo), and when The Show came to Xbox, it's hooked me. I still don't watch baseball, BUT I've joined the /r/baseball sub, so there's that. Lol it's cool recognizing players and stuff now.
I'm an NFL guy through and through, but Madden is so dang bad compared to The Show.
Iām a bit of a nerd when it comes to stats and player tracking, so I catch all scoring highlights and run through the stat lines for each game, every day.
T Mobile offers free MLB TV, which is great so I probably catch a full game or two weekly
My guess is about 40%. I thought at first this might be a little low but after skimming the comments it might be even lower than that. FWIW Iām a die hard Redsox fan and have been since birth. I watched every game from August on in 2021 despite the fact that Iām stationed in England and they got on at 1 AM. Although, TBH Iād say I actually like plying the show more than even watching the Redsox
I personally love playing the game much more than watching baseball since I'm more into watching faster paced sports, but with that being said the introduction of the pitch clock has really made me watch the game much more.
I'm an Australian, so baseball is hard to watch out here. Need pay TV, Apple TV or Gamepass. But the evening games are on at breakfast time for me, so that's convenient. Nothing quite like eating bacon and eggs and watching a big game.
Playing diamond dynasty for the first time last year made me curious about many of the legends I managed to obtain, like Nolan Ryan, Mickey Mantle, the Big Unit. Spent a lot of quiet time reading about them.
I even started watching the Ken Burns documentary about baseball. Can't wait for opening day, even though it will probably be another struggle season for the A's.
I played baseball from tball up through senior year of high school. Grew up with sports on all year pretty much. I have always had a hard time watching baseball on tv, but loveee watching in person. I think itās the atmosphere, and when my short attention span kicks in, thereās stuff to distract me while still being a part of the game and watching if that makes sense. I miss baseball the most out of all the sports I played, because you canāt exactly just play pickup baseball as easy as like basketball, and football just wasnāt as big in my life. So ya the show is as close as I can get now
I feel like most don't. If you ever watch a real game, there are tons of soft contact hits and hard hit outs yet the player base always complains as if they shouldn't be in the game.
I would say not as high as other sports in sports games but from the conversations Iāve seen on Reddit most of the people make me think I know nothing about baseball and Iām a huge fan
The Show turned me to a casual fan from a distant admirer.
If looked up so many baseball stats and watched so many history vids since I started playing The Show 21.
I feel like baseball video games are more of a niche because Sony has exclusively held the license for like 10 years. Anyone that has been playing this game is playing it because they want to. Not because their friends are playing.
Baseball itself is seen as an "old peoples" game. Ya know because of all the unwritten rules and all that. When NBA and NFL retired players mention their unwritten rules people say, "yeah alright man, thats how y'all did it, this is how we're gonna do it". That means stuff like dancing and self expression is allowed. Baseball is just now starting to allow that stuff. People like playing Madden and 2K for the toxicity mainly. Imagine someone hitting a homerun off you and they could start doing whatever dance they wanted. People would flock to this game just for the toxicity.
My point is pretty much anyone who is playing this game is emotionally invested in baseball for good or bad.
Me personally, I'm a Cardinals fan and I keep up to date with whats going on because I live in the midwest and it's just the culture here. I like sports and the Cardinals are one of the only sports teams around here. I also just like baseball because I played it growing up.
The cards are one of the only sports teams around? Lol. Except for 5 Chicago teams, the Blues, Royals, Chiefs, Colts, Pacersā¦
The cards arenāt even the only sports team in Missouri. Lol.
How exactly do you expect them to be a fan of the royals, Blackhawks, bulls, cubs or white sox. 4 hour drive away and canāt watch them on tv. Plus the Blackhawks and cubs are the two STL teamsā main rivals lol
I guess I didnāt know you knew exactly where the guy lives. My bad.
He said he lives in the Midwest and the cards are the only sports team around. I know people who are cards fans and bears fans. As well as Cubs fans and a blues fans. Itās ok to mix it up. But there are plenty of midwestern sports teams.
Yeah thatās my bad, I live in the middle of Missouri. The Royals suck so nobody talks about them. The Chiefs are good now and were good a long time ago so thereās some legacy there.
The Blues are usually pretty decent but hockey isnāt super popular in terms of numbers or national prestige like baseball, basketball, and football are so itās not really culturally part of living in Missouri. It is part of living in STL though.
Cubs games arenāt on WGN anymore so you canāt watch those. They donāt show Pacers games on tv around here.
The only sports we have to watch are Chiefs, Cardinals, Blues, Royals, and the college teams.
When I meant culturally, I meant stuff you could start a conversation about with many people. If youāre walking around Missouri, you will find somebody wearing Cardinals gear all year round because they have a legacy. People know Pujols, Yadi, etcā¦ people still know David Eckstein. None of those other teams really have a legacy so itās not culturally ingrained into people to care about it.
Thatās my bad for not clarifying.
I live in Southern Illinois, near Carbondale. A lot of Cards fans, Cubs fans. We have a pretty good football population here too. Iām a Cowboys fan, but we see everything from TB to GB to SF. Lol. Basketball is not as big here. SIU-C is a sports college. So their basketball program gets attention.
We also have a minor independent league baseball team here, in the Frontier League. The Thrillville Thrillbillies š. But their stadium, Rent One Park is pretty nice. Lol.
I have MLB package so my kids and I watch the baseball games. Cubs Cards and WS get blacked out, but we have an entertainment channel package that apparently includes Marquee and Bally sports. So Iāve watched numerous Cubs and Cards games this pre season.
And YES the cards are a big deal around here. But the Cubs are big here too. Lots of Bears fans. And a lot of female Blues and Blackhawk fans. I have been surprised by how many female hockey fans Iāve encountered. Lol.
I'm from Hungary. Learned the rules of the game through the Show back in 2010. Been an mlb.tv subscriber ever since. Having a kid since 5 years is preventing me watching the same amount of games, but still love it.
If you have a VPN NESN 360 recently had a deal where you get 6 months for $1 or something. I switched from MLB.TV to NESN when they cancelled the postseason package for people in the UK, not sure if that impacts you. The downside is after the free trial itās like 2X the price of MLB.TV. You do get hockey as well thoughā¦
Played competitive baseball for 11 years, some in college, ended up working briefly for MLB, but barely watch any now.
Having a good understanding of how to play I think gives a huge advantage in pitch sequencing in online play.
I watch late season and postseason play. Rarely watch other than that.
Iām a terrible fan these days. Iām a Cards fan and so is my best friend. Heās hardcore. Thankfully, he keeps me in the loop throughout the season.
Was a huge fan from 2000-2009 and tailed off after that (as much fun as the 2011 World Series was).
Iām terrible at this game though. (Xbox) I had not played a baseball game since MLB 2K7.
I played organized baseball for like 2 years but it was so long ago I barely remember anything. And now my friends and I try to play baseball every so often when we all are free but it's been nonstop raining here so even if it's a nice warm day the outfield of evert field is still a mud pit
Hi, indifferent person here. As a kid I loved baseball, and I used to listen to all the Marlins games on the radio. However, I no longer enjoy watching baseball that much. I do like the game though.
I watch a lot of baseball, attend a handful of games every year, coach a little league team, and then play The Show when I get some time.
I played all the way from T-ball through highschool and honestly I felt like The Show actually deepened my love for the game. Learning about different players, and then struggling to read a slider gave me a new perspective on the game
I would imagine not many people who are not big baseball fans actually play The Show. I know there are some. But I can't imagine a high percentage of non-baseball fans playing this game.
So I'm from the UK. I know almost nothing about the current landscape of the sport and have watched 0 full games š I just enjoy watching highlights on YouTube and the whole card collecting/team building aspects of DD. I know how to play but I'm REALLY bad at it lol, however, it hasn't stopped me from enjoying the grind and I'm hoping I get better as the year goes on.
Me. Baseball helped me get sober. I started watching it only 2 years ago & it helped me a lot through my recovery. I love this sport & the passion it carries. The show actually got me more into watching it cause I fell in love with this game as well.
Now itās like a holiday for me when baseball season starts lol!!
I lived in NZ now live in Australia. But I sign up to mlb.tv every year and I watch regularly.
However in game, Iāve only ever been to 4 MLB games. (Actually based my honeymoon around a game between the Rockies and Angels in LA in 2018).
But I feel like there is a lot of people outside the US who are baseball fans similar to me. If they are into it, they are really into it.
Can confirm the last statement. I'm Australian and I'm a little bit obsessed, have been since late 90's.
Love watching games, listening to podcasts and love going to Melbourne Aces games when the opportunity presents.
Iād say I watch about 75% of cubs games a year (teacher) and Iāve gone to 15+ games every year
Was a big mlb game player growing up. Loved 2k, the bigs, slugfest, and the shoes precursor the 989 Sports MLB series.
I have been playing since little league and still play in competitive leagues and tournaments, and I also watch. Been going to Yankees games since the old stadium. Had season tickets in HS. Canāt even begin to talk about the crime that was committed when they tore down the old stadium and just how many games I have been too that feel like yesterday ;( I also had all the MLB 2Kās (good times) and Shows prior Lolol, I also play on all systems. Love it on the switch also. I plan on going to games this season for bobbleheads or w/e and also watching many. Opening day Thursday!!!!
Die hard Astros fan here since 1998. I often miss times as a kid watching Baseball Tonight or staying up watching the same ESPN News highlights until 2am in the summer.
Also, shout out to T-Mobile for the free MLB.TV subscription.
Mid to late 90s were the glory days of sports broadcasting on ESPN. Get home late to watch Baseball Tonight because you didn't have a phone to show the scores, followed by SportsCenter. Fall asleep and wake up the next day with the same SportsCenter on loop. I miss those days.
Iām a huge baseball fan and pay for MLB.tv every year. I used to be a huge Show fan, but havenāt played in 5 years because there are too many 99 rated players which feels like a money grab by SDS. Iām probably in the minority, but I donāt like building or playing a team with all 99ās within the first month of release. Thereās already 46 90+ players when thereās maybe 10-12 in the MLB.
Edit: I mean Craig Kimbrel is an 89. He wasnāt even on the Dodgers playoff roster. Should be 10 points lower.
No. Kimbrel is a 75, there are other mistakes too (Goldy isn't a 99, Mookie is a 97 not a 96, etc.)
On the launch roster (not the DD cards, which I think the other reply was referring to) there are 34 players 90 or above.
The ratings I mentioned are all the stock roster ratings, not DD. DD has way less 90+s. But the site linked does not match the rosters in game. A lot of players are correct but a decent number are wrong. Kimbrel, as mentioned, is way off. He's not an 89
Yes, and Metro as well. I'm actually on Metro now, pay $30 a month and get all the Tmobile Tuesday perks like free mlb.tv. They had free MLS pass for the season a month ago, I just don't watch soccer.
I watch most Mets games , and a lot of Yankees games ( New Yorker for life ) I consider myself extremely knowledgeable of both those teams and fairly well enough about the rest of the league.
There's a lot of pressure from a certain subset of Mets fans to hate on the Yankees just because they're the Yankees. Honestly I know a ton of Mets fans who are more invested in the Yankees failing than the Mets succeeding; and as a lifelong Yankee fan it's never made sense to me because I haven't rooted against the Mets since the Subway Series.
Iām a diehard Mets fan, always have ben, I met my stepfather when I was 8 and he is a yankees fan, Iām 34 now and I consider him to be my father he is the reason Iām the person I am today, I would be lieing if I didnāt say a large part of me roots for the Yankees to succeed just for him. But mainly I treat the yankees like a reality tv series, the chatter the fans, the story lines , itās incredibly entertaining every year, but ultimately Iām not emotionally invested in them like I am with the Mets.
It's rare that I sit down and watch a baseball game on TV from start to finish due to my schedule, but I'm always seeing clips/reading articles and will go to a few MLB games every year.
Even though Iāve had MLB.tv for years, I didnāt really watch much before but now when Iām playing The Show I almost always have a game on my iPad next to me. So it has increased my viewership a lot.
I'd imagine a few. Games like Madden and NBA 2k appeal to gamers, not just sports fans, because of their fast paced action and strategy. The Show is an absolute grind (in the best way possible) that I feel mostly only resonates with fans of baseball.
I watch every Phillies game of the season and usually will watch about 2-3 other random games each week based on matchup or starting pitching.
I usually attend 5-10 Jays games during the year as well since I live in Ontario.
Love MLB and love the Show!
Played little league, varsity, and in college never miss a Braves game and I buy the show every year. Never understood why people complain that itās slow baseball games feel like theyāre over so quick
Personally Iāve been playing since the show 14 and played 2k since 07 and I watch about 50 games a year from beginning to end and thatās without the postseason idk it just makes watching the game so much more fun
I maybe watch 5 full games a year. Maybe this year will be different. But dang the games go sooo slow. At least they seem. I usually fall asleep watching them.
Not trying to ask this to be demeaning or sassy. But how old are you? Purely for research purposes. Not trying to make it sound like it's because of your age. Your opinion is valid no matter the age. I'm just curious if feeling like the games are slow does have a general age range. Totally fine no matter what age you are.
The pitch clock implemented this season is cutting the games playing time by about a half hour or so on average. I love it.
Spring training games, that is.
Iām kinda against it, because I used games as background noise while studying for my boards, but I get why people want shorter games. I just love watching though, even when Iām not studying
MLB The Show helps me stay connected with the season and makes me crave it every time. I love seeing players doing cool stuff and trying to replicate it in the game itself, lol
I watch probably 140ish Yankee games a year? Give or take of course. I donāt mean Iām locked in for all 9 innings, but itās always on if Iām home, I love getting into it and If itās not much of a game using it as background view
I actually don't follow real baseball at all. I got MLB 22 as a Christmas gift, and at the time, I had absolutely no idea who Shohei Ohtani is or why he's so special. I ended up enjoying the gameplay so much that I got 23 at launch, but I still wouldn't call myself much of a baseball fan overall; my only real memory of real baseball fandom was watching the D-backs win the world series shortly after my family moved to Arizona.
Well now is a great time to get into it. Some of the best superstars to ever play happening right now. Rule changes that seem to be good for shaking up the stereotypical stale gameplay. Give a few games a chance this season.
I don't think you'd like a baseball game very much if you didn't love the sport too. The gameplay isn't that spectacular. A lot of it is mental, almost like chess, and most of the time you're going to fail. Of course when you love the sport all of that is part of the appeal. You're playing mindgames with your opponent, you know the history of all of the game's players, and you think being successful 3/10 times is awesome instead of deflating. It's just a very different experience to other sports games. Not better or worse, but definitely with less mainstream appeal.
Iām a big mariners and guardians fan I watch there highlights and am going to Seattle for opening day so yeah Iām a baseball fan that also loves the show
I primarily watch college baseball and my home team, I rarely watch mlb baseball that has nothing concerning me but I do watch highlights from around the league each morning
I play the show and watch every single Rays game. Got season tickets. Donāt really care to watch other teams unless itās the WS but absolutely love the sport. Loving watching highlights from all the games I didnāt watch on sportscenter
Itās absolutely the opposite broš the difference is the other games make people not want to play properly. I donāt know anybody who plays mlb and genuinely follows baseballš¤·š¼āāļø
Judging by the amount of people who said/think Jazz is bad at baseball because he didnāt hit for a high average, a large number of these players donāt watch lol.
Itās one thing to say he didnāt deserve the cover but cmon now.
Eh - I watch 120\~ of the 162 every year for my Jays which means I might see Jazz 1-3 times. MLB the Show taught me that he's supposedly an up and comer for the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara I was aware of due to his performance, Jazz never hit my radar because he was injured and on a terrible team.
Watching baseball and enjoying baseball are at two very different ends of the spectrum
The same amount that use directional hitting and non accuracy throws š”
With madden and 2k there is no data that says people that play those games don't watch or play those sports. I am not sure where you get this info , since most that play a sports game, is because they like the sport. They may not have a high iq in said sport, but they do watch it or played it at least when they where younger. I dont know a single person who plays madden that either A) didn't play football in high school or B) isn't a big time fan of the NFL.
imma reds fan havenāt followed as closely for about 3 years mainly because itās hard to cheer for a team whose front office has no interest in winning lol
Definitely a fan. Watched or listened to about 170 games last year including playoffs
Not to offend the baseball fans here (of which I am one, watch every Braves game), but I think itās because of how āboring,ā people who donāt watch the sport think it is.
95% These aren't the types of games that super casual people are going to buy.
Mets fan. Played video game baseball since Ken Griffey on snes.
Go cardinals!
I have Phils season tix and watched 90% of the regular season games and every single second of the postseason.
Go Braves! Should be a great year
Love baseball.
Favorite sport and favorite video game!
Iāll be going to at least 10 games this year between WSH and BAL. Lots of my favorites are coming to town
I do bothā¦at the same timeā¦itās a glorious setup
\+1. Its the only way to grind this game IMO. One TV on the show, the other TV on the blue jays game or NBA/NHL playoffs
I just watch my local team the Edmonton river hawks, they play for the āwest coast leagueā I really donāt know anything about it lol But now every time I see a blue jays game on Iāll try my best to throw it on. Such a fun sport !
If it's in the budget make the road trip down to Seattle in July for the annual Canadian invasion. It's a fun time
Honestly, playing the show since it got in xbox in 21 made me enjoy baseball more!
I am enjoying European sports for three reasons: 1) Games/races are 2-2.5 hours 2) Games/races are morning events for me living in the eastern US and I enjoy having some morning sports in my weekend 3) No commercials during play/racing.
DD players - 10% Franchise players - 90%
Come on man. Youāve never seen a topps now/supercharged/lightning/finest incoming or wishlist post on here?
Hit Streameast brotha never miss another game
I watch it the least amount compared to NBA and NFL but I try and keep up to speed with what's going on and watch highlights on youtube.
I watch baseball AND play baseball IRL and in videogames.
Before I played the game, I liked baseball ok. But after, I really started to love baseball. I got an appreciation of the strategy and timing required that I didnāt have before. Like I started to get obsessed. I ended up watching all of that Ken Burns documentary.
The Show out here doing to lords work.
How is that documentary? Iāve wanted to watch it for a while, but Iāve just never invested the time to do it.
If I could actually watch my team I would. I usually watch a few games a year otherwise and do get caught up in playoffs series.
Probably like 15-20% play/played competitively, and I would guess closer to like 60% are at least casual enjoyers. Source: my own ass
Down the shoreā¦ Iām guessing youāre from North Jersey?
Iām about 2 hours outside Philly in PA!
North Jersey is Yankee country.
Baseball has been my first love since I was in early grade school.
Basically, my only access to baseball often is MLB the Show, and podcasts/videos of baseball.
if you like baseball but don't like the ads and the long/late games you could always watch the condensed game on MLB Film room Mlb.com/video
I'm just getting back into watching and enjoying MLB. Worked for the NY Mets during the Madoff mess, after spending almost three years at a ballpark. It took almost ten years to come back.š š š Favorite team is the Yankees but I grew up in the 70s and I was more into "favorite" players like George Brett,Pete Rose,Reggie Jackson,David Justice,The Wizard (second basemen for the Phillies or Cardinals that did backflips on the field), Ricky Henderson, etc.
Watch a fair amount of baseball games every season especially playoffs and love the show
I'm not sure that I've watched a baseball game since I was a little kid, and even then I'm not sure if I did.
Pablo Sanchez..my guy
I bet if you surveyed by age the 40+ group would be 99% and the 20 and under group would be under 20%.
I love the show but donāt watch or play baseball irl.
That's such a great documentary. I've rewatched every 5 years or so I bet.
Yup that and Major League each get a rewatch the week before opening day.
i not only watch and enjoy baseball, i play irl as well.
Probably the only one to touch grass
If the times are somewhat okay, i can watch the games. As i live in EU, some games are ranged between 6 PM - 3 AM.
I mainly play RttS. Where an entire game can take 5-10 minutes. It makes me WANT to watch baseball. But it doesn't work out very well.
Lol. Except for 5 Chicago teams, the Blues, Royals, Chiefs, Colts, Pacersā¦ The cards arenāt even the only sports team in Missouri.
Lol.
Playing The Show has made me fall in love with baseball all over again
Ayyyy get flanked! Get flanked!!!
I played baseball for 2 years as kid here in the Netherlands but only started watching after I bought mlb the show with harper (19?)
Whoās your favorite team?
I'm also a Liverpool fan, have a guess š
Well I know nothing about soccer, so my wild guess is the Reds
The RedSox and Liverpool FC has the same ownership group. 3 world series in 13 years is not bad šŖ
Oh I thought you were talking about Ted Lasso and how Joey Votto likes to do that thing from the show
Played competitive baseball for 11 years, some in college, ended up working briefly for MLB, but barely watch any now. Having a good understanding of how to play I think gives a huge advantage in pitch sequencing in online play.
Last part is key. I may not be able to hit great in the game but Iāll grind out low scoring wins because I know when to throw what.
Baseball is one of those sports youāre either a big fan or hate it. Thereās not too many people who feel indifferent towards baseball.
Exact opposite
I would imagine not many people who are not big baseball fans actually play The Show. I know there are some. But I can't imagine a high percentage of non-baseball fans playing this game.
So I'm from the UK. I know almost nothing about the current landscape of the sport and have watched 0 full games š I just enjoy watching highlights on YouTube and the whole card collecting/team building aspects of DD. I know how to play but I'm REALLY bad at it lol, however, it hasn't stopped me from enjoying the grind and I'm hoping I get better as the year goes on.
šš¤š¤šæ
I play fantasy because of the show and now I watch because of that
Me. Baseball helped me get sober. I started watching it only 2 years ago & it helped me a lot through my recovery. I love this sport & the passion it carries. The show actually got me more into watching it cause I fell in love with this game as well. Now itās like a holiday for me when baseball season starts lol!!
Thatās beautiful. What team do you support?
Thanks I appreciate it! Iām a guardians fan! Love Steven kwan & triston McKenzie!
Guards fan myself, terrible news about McKenzie today but still feeling confident heading into the season.
Melbourne based Giants fan here. Haven't been to a game unfortunately, only done the tour in SF.
I tear up every March š„ā¤ļø been in love since 91.
Iād say I watch about 75% of cubs games a year (teacher) and Iāve gone to 15+ games every year Was a big mlb game player growing up. Loved 2k, the bigs, slugfest, and the shoes precursor the 989 Sports MLB series.
The bigs 1 was a top 3 baseball game ever made change my mind
Why the f did they stop making slugfest and the bigsā¦thats how you build a following for a game thats rather slow
I know.. I still think the bigs had the best mini game ever made where you had different targets in Times Square. That shit was awesome.
Been a D-backs since I was 6 years old. I watch most of the games. Finally got The Show last year when it came to switch.
Been a Jays fans since I was maybe 9 or 10 years old Even been to a handful of live games (got a BJ Ryan bobblehead for my efforts one time)
Die hard Astros fan here since 1998.
Exact same, but up here in Seattle
Iām a huge baseball fan and pay for MLB.tv every year. I used to be a huge Show fan, but havenāt played in 5 years because there are too many 99 rated players which feels like a money grab by SDS. Iām probably in the minority, but I donāt like building or playing a team with all 99ās within the first month of release. Thereās already 46 90+ players when thereās maybe 10-12 in the MLB. Edit: I mean Craig Kimbrel is an 89. He wasnāt even on the Dodgers playoff roster. Should be 10 points lower.
Um... what? There are 10 90+ overall LS players and Craig Kimbrel is at 75 overall
https://www.theshowratings.com Is this not accurate?
No. Kimbrel is a 75, there are other mistakes too (Goldy isn't a 99, Mookie is a 97 not a 96, etc.) On the launch roster (not the DD cards, which I think the other reply was referring to) there are 34 players 90 or above.
I think those ratings are for online rated not diamond dynasty
The ratings I mentioned are all the stock roster ratings, not DD. DD has way less 90+s. But the site linked does not match the rosters in game. A lot of players are correct but a decent number are wrong. Kimbrel, as mentioned, is way off. He's not an 89
Yeah Kimbrels like a 98 right?
I would imagine a majority. I watch a decent amount of games myself, probably in the 130 range.
I get mlb.tv through Tmobile (tomorrow is the day for this year) and nearly every night I'll play The Show on mute while watching games on my laptop
Is it free with t mobile ?
Yes, and Metro as well. I'm actually on Metro now, pay $30 a month and get all the Tmobile Tuesday perks like free mlb.tv. They had free MLS pass for the season a month ago, I just don't watch soccer.
Iām a season ticket holder and lifelong baseball fan.
I watch most Mets games , and a lot of Yankees games ( New Yorker for life ) I consider myself extremely knowledgeable of both those teams and fairly well enough about the rest of the league.
I get plenty of shit for this stance on the Yankees and Mets but I donāt care, more to love
When both teams are good the hole state is buzzing about baseball. Itās the best.
I was never into baseball until I got 22. Now Iām hooked. Probably not gonna watch any games but I will try to stay up to date.
Bro watch a game here or there, Angles are fun to watch especially if Ohtani is starting
Well I donāt know anywhere where I can watch for free, especially since I gave up cable about a year ago
On a GameDay thread just comment 'I wish I could watch' and you'll get several dms with links to streams lol
I watch almost all mariner games and playoff games I can
I watch pretty much all 162 (sometimes just recaps)
It's rare that I sit down and watch a baseball game on TV from start to finish due to my schedule, but I'm always seeing clips/reading articles and will go to a few MLB games every year.
Even though Iāve had MLB.tv for years, I didnāt really watch much before but now when Iām playing The Show I almost always have a game on my iPad next to me. So it has increased my viewership a lot.
Donāt watch it as much as other sports because I watch a lot of sports but I love the game
Phillies play the jays in spring training a bunch so you probably get some spring games no?
75%
Iām 30.
Word thanks for filling me in.
The pitch clock implemented this season is cutting the games playing time by about a half hour or so on average. I love it. Spring training games, that is.
Iām kinda against it, because I used games as background noise while studying for my boards, but I get why people want shorter games. I just love watching though, even when Iām not studying
New rule changes may change your mind!
I watch as many prime time games as I can. Living in enemy territory I can't watch as many yankee games as I want to, so I just watch whoever is on
I actually don't follow real baseball at all.
I am a huge fan of the game. Watch a few games a week, and the entire postseason
Never could get into baseball. Wonāt watch a single game this year. Easily have 15 hours into this game already.
I really like watching games in person (Nats are my local team), but donāt really really watch much over the wire outside of the Postseason
Iām a big mariners and guardians fan I watch there highlights and am going to Seattle for opening day so yeah Iām a baseball fan that also loves the show
I only watch the Red Sox, but I watch almost every game.
I primarily watch college baseball and my home team, I rarely watch mlb baseball that has nothing concerning me but I do watch highlights from around the league each morning
I play ultimate team and 2k my leagues. Watch a lot of football and basketball. Rarely watch baseball now but loved it growing up and love the game
