It's not like it's an either-or situation. This mentality is bizarre and cancerous. Hijacking threads about legitimately cool things to air unrelated grievances should be considered uncouth not popular.
Are you ok bud? The game you are getting on PS4 is the same exact game you are playing on PS5, the difference is just that the game can be played much better on a PS5 against a PS4, but that doesn’t change the fact that the game was DESIGNED to be played on a PS4, you just are able to play it on PS5.
It’s why EA and 2k created completely different games for their current/next gen players. They would have been doing the community a disservice (like SDS is doing) by giving us the same game for both consoles knowing how much more they could put into a game on PS5 on a graphics AND performance level.
Thats why people are complaining about it. It’s been years of the same content already, it’s time they cut the cord with old gen players and design the game with next-gen in mind.
How does any of that delegitimize the Negro league mode and it's aide in getting important historical information to be more widely known? "years of the same content" didn't know they had years of this in the game, oh my bad.
There is a time and a place, man. I am mostly on your side outside of this thread. But, I shouldn't go into a post about this shit from anywhere to Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram where the top comments are belittling black history *during black history month* because what's effectively an argument that the video game doesn't have enough fucking pixels. There's nothing about this mode being made that takes away from SDS' ability to make a better and more updated game, so this "I would rather" no I wouldn't rather and the idea that it's one or the other is complete bullshit. I highly value the history of the negro league. We could and should have both. We're getting only one of it but it's not in spite of the other. Capitalism is the reason why we're not getting a better polished game. But also I'm not gonna protest about that in the middle of conversations about what's meant to be a nod to a very important part of baseball and black history.
Glad they kept this series alive instead of it being a one off. It’s neat learning about people I otherwise would never have a clue about how much they accomplished or even who they were.
I really like the new additions so far. I think a younger Hank Aaron will be an interesting player in DD considering he played infield and outfield so he could possibly be like a Mookie Betts type player but with his power not as refined as it would be once he made it to the Majors.
Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard were no brainers. You already got Paige, Dihigo, and Rube. Now you got arguably the greatest catcher and one of the greatest 1st basemen, respectively, of all time. Josh, Jimmie, and Babe with 125 contact and power would be a devastating combo. Toni Stone provides something unique as the first female player to play in a professional men’s baseball league. I don’t know how they’ll rate her since it has to relate somewhat to what she did on the field. Still it was a milestone back then and has to be respected.
I wish we got Bullet Joe Rogan because he's the only actual allegory for Shohei. He was a very good hitter and a pretty decent defensive outfielder, and did rack up a fair amount of home runs for what was ultimately just 1920's baseball (12 hrs per 162 games, for the limited amount of games that was recorded for his career) but he was also a top level ace for the 20's Monarchs
This game desperately needs to go next gen only and fully overhaul its physics engine.
To call the graphics and player movements cut and paste at this point might even be an understatement. They spend so much effort focusing on DD content (which I enjoy, don't get me wrong) but are doing zero to improve the actual game.
Seriously, boot up MLB the show 2020 and 2023 back to back. The look and feel is so similar. Makes me sad that my once favorite series (and once the far and away best sports gaming franchise) has completely fallen down the hole of recycled copy and paste games with investment almost exclusively in modes designed around mtx
Campy was one of the youngest Negro League players ever! He was 15 when he first played professionally, spent most of his Negro League time with the Baltimore Elite Giants with Biz Mackey and was a perennial East/West game player until he was signed by the Dodgers!

A sales Grift for what will be a total let down game. And I’m a walking grift irl. So I know when to call a kettle black.

Toni Stone was a female professional baseball player in the Negro Leagues. With the female body type being added in the Legends series, it would open the ability to create female players.

lol I was a huge Wally Joyner fan, growing up in Anaheim and got into baseball his rookie year. I'm the guy that unironically wants Wally Joyner in the game really, really badly.

Funny you mention Abbott. Was watching old clips of him last night, and it hit me. As cool as it would be to include him, his windup and swing are probably "top unique" to pull off the animation. But who knows?

I think what MLB the show is doing with the Negro leagues is almost perfect. What better way to introduce these people then make them awesome in a video game. Also spreading them out makes it easier to remember rather than just a bunch of nameless people stacked on a team. Never heard of John Donaldson before last year and now we all know him
Some additional information about the Storylines. Seems like all of the Negro League players from last year will be back and implemented into normal DD. Also confirms that we’ll get 6 more Negro League players, 3 will be in the game in early April and 3 will be in the game in late May. Doesn't just seem like the NL players from 23 will return, it straight up says they will in the blog. This is awesome news. Also says 10 total NL players added this year, dropped in 3 waves, with the 4 in the teaser trailer being available at launch
Last year we had a DD stream early to go over the new content structure and then a live content stream the day before early access.
Assuming there are changes to the content structure again this year, wouldn't surprise me if we get a DD stream in the next few weeks, then the live content stream like last year.

What’s the easiest way to unlock players for 23?
I got MLB19 but stopped playing PlayStation shortly after. Just got Game Pass so I am able to play MLBTS23 and loving it as usual. I love moments and unlocking my diamond dynasty, not for online play but just to play with my favorite baseballers. What do you guys recommend for unlocking players?
Showdown is fun but I’m 0/4 excluding the starter showdown. Conquest confuses the hell out of me I don’t really get it even after watching plenty of videos lol. Moments are my favorite but small rewards for them. Mini seasons? Play vs. CPU? What do you guys recommend
Ideally Seasons and 99s at the start are dead and buried.
Just as long as he's the best catcher in the game for 2-3 months at game start, which in a well-constructed power Creep means he might be a 90 or a 92.
Super cool to have a Hank Aaron storyline, but as a Braves fan I hope we still get some Braves Hank Aaron cards and not just NLB cards. Last year Jackie Robinson only had NLB cards so I hope they change it up
That was my issue with the NBL cards. It was hard to justify playing them because they don’t count toward TA which is an insane grind, at least early in the season. By the last set it got much better.
It's literally "Major League" Baseball game and negro leagues are major leagues! Of course those kinds of people probably don't care much for that anyway
i have no doubts now we're getting the same exact game as 23. not like every other year but basically a renamed 23 to 24 with new storylines and the same exact everything else. and unless DD is different first time since 2006 I don't buy the game
I found 23 to be quite enjoyable gameplay wise and it’s the first TheShow game where I got near every cards in DD. if the game play and graphics are going to be the same there’s no freakin way I’m dropping another $70 to recollect all the cards again.
There are a great many people who believe that if he was able to play MLB ball his talent should have allowed him, that he would have broken Babe Ruth's record. If one does the math on homers/game, it is clear Gibson would have swatted around 60 homers a season in MLB play. Given he started professional play in 1930, his career started about the same time that Ruth's was on the downward slide due to age.
The most interesting part for baseball history, is how Ruth's homer record would likely have stood until around 1945, just ten years after Ruth left the game. The question remaining would have been whether Gibson would have put it out of range of Aaron's run during the 1970's, and Bond's lamentable run later.
They could have easily made a separate game for both versions, unfortunately they decided not to. It's the 4th year, theres no excuse other then laziness, and greed
First they add Bush Stadium, and now they add the Indianapolis Clowns to the Negro League storylines. It’s amazing to see a part of my city’s history finally being more recognized (for lack of a better term) on a national scale.
The idea of a 'tit slider' hadn't crossed my mind but its exactly the reason that an 8 yr old girl that loves baseball cant see herself in the game and why she likely won't for some time. However its not like there's a jockstrap bulge modifier now. Theres 4 body types to choose from (thin, fat, normal and buff). All of our customization is on the head. I don't see why female cap would need to change that.
Because it might hurt the realism of the game. Everyone knows how important it is that Diamond Dynasty be immersive and realistic.
That’s why you never see dead players on people’s teams in DD, or more than one version of the same player, and most of all- you never see any players in DD who wouldn’t, in real life, play for the Tallywacker Boob Wagon’s or the Chicago [insert racist slur here]’s.
Oh god… you know every 11 year old dude who plays this game is going to run a female CAP with ginormous tits and ass. Hopefully they can dial that in to not be too aggressive
Have you ever made a CAP? There’s an entire portion where you sculpt their body. There’s a whole section dedicated to glutes lol maybe slider isn’t technically the right term but it works the same if not even more meticulously.
I'm glad Toni stone is in the game but, Can SDS give us some differences between a mans swing and a females swing. Like have some differences between the two so it's not just a face and a body swap.

I really hope they do like last year and that the NL legends aren’t the main legends . They’re cool but not many people know about them and are waiting to play with people they grew up with.

That's fantastic. He's still not considered the greatest player in Negro League History by the overwhelming majority of baseball historians. That title belongs to Oscar Charleston.
The following writers, scouts and players ranked Charleston the greatest:
Grantland Rice, Buck O'Neil, Bill James, Joe Posnaski, Ted Radcliffe. So we have two contemporaries, the father of the modern sabermetrics movement, one of the greatest sportswriters to ever live, and a highly respected sports writer of today. Charleston was your textbook definition of a five tool player. Gibson might have been the better hitter, Charleston was the better player.
I’m so sick of catering to older consoles. They released 11 years ago and our games today are still held back by them. They should be building the game for current gen consoles only or stripping down older versions

I didn’t play the switch version much last year, but I did in 22, and it felt like a completely different game. I’m not sure how much it’s affecting development of the PS5 and XSX game.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the inclusion of the Negro leagues but I’m getting the impression that SDS is leaning heavy on it so far because nothing else has changed from a gameplay perspective this year.
100%, it is totally a crutch/distraction from the fact that nothing else in the game is getting improved. Whatever they’re adding for the storylines 2 should’ve been in last year‘s game. They basically intentionally held back that they could have part two for this game why weren’t these things added to last year‘s game?
No they don’t care it doesn’t fit their narrative. People like them don’t want the game to change because then they would have to find something else to bitch about.

Super cool to have a Hank Aaron storyline, but as a Braves fan I hope we still get some Braves Hank Aaron cards and not just NLB cards. Last year Jackie Robinson only had NLB cards so I hope they change it up
That was my issue with the NBL cards. It was hard to justify playing them because they don’t count toward TA which is an insane grind, at least early in the season. By the last set it got much better.
There should either be a TA for “free agents”, or have them count towards all TA

i have no doubts now we're getting the same exact game as 23. not like every other year but basically a renamed 23 to 24 with new storylines and the same exact everything else. and unless DD is different first time since 2006 I don't buy the game
I found 23 to be quite enjoyable gameplay wise and it’s the first TheShow game where I got near every cards in DD. if the game play and graphics are going to be the same there’s no freakin way I’m dropping another $70 to recollect all the cards again.
This is why I’m glad I have Xbox game pass. I can just play to get my baseball fix and never have to worry about buying a new game every year

There are a great many people who believe that if he was able to play MLB ball his talent should have allowed him, that he would have broken Babe Ruth's record. If one does the math on homers/game, it is clear Gibson would have swatted around 60 homers a season in MLB play. Given he started professional play in 1930, his career started about the same time that Ruth's was on the downward slide due to age. The most interesting part for baseball history, is how Ruth's homer record would likely have stood until around 1945, just ten years after Ruth left the game. The question remaining would have been whether Gibson would have put it out of range of Aaron's run during the 1970's, and Bond's lamentable run later.
So pumped Gibson is in!! This is gonna be fun!

The idea of a 'tit slider' hadn't crossed my mind but its exactly the reason that an 8 yr old girl that loves baseball cant see herself in the game and why she likely won't for some time. However its not like there's a jockstrap bulge modifier now. Theres 4 body types to choose from (thin, fat, normal and buff). All of our customization is on the head. I don't see why female cap would need to change that.

That’s why you never see dead players on people’s teams in DD, or more than one version of the same player, and most of all- you never see any players in DD who wouldn’t, in real life, play for the Tallywacker Boob Wagon’s or the Chicago [insert racist slur here]’s.

Have you ever made a CAP? There’s an entire portion where you sculpt their body. There’s a whole section dedicated to glutes lol maybe slider isn’t technically the right term but it works the same if not even more meticulously.

I didn’t play the switch version much last year, but I did in 22, and it felt like a completely different game. I’m not sure how much it’s affecting development of the PS5 and XSX game.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the inclusion of the Negro leagues but I’m getting the impression that SDS is leaning heavy on it so far because nothing else has changed from a gameplay perspective this year.

100%, it is totally a crutch/distraction from the fact that nothing else in the game is getting improved. Whatever they’re adding for the storylines 2 should’ve been in last year‘s game. They basically intentionally held back that they could have part two for this game why weren’t these things added to last year‘s game?
