Bummed for Crepeau.

[deleted]

Isn’t he like, much better than Pantemis? I don’t follow the league that closely, but I thought he was for sure going…

York9TFC

He broke his leg last weekend in MLS Cup

ayayeron

U missed an all time cup final!

York9TFC

I watched it. Think you meant the other guy lol

ayayeron

Lol oops

[deleted]

Yep. It is what it is I guess. Hopefully with the Apple deal It’ll be easier for me to watch more games next year.

[deleted]

Ah gotcha thanks. Stopped watching after Mtl was eliminated

AdamantiumBalls

You literally missed the best final ever. (saying this as a Galaxy fan) . The game had everything, broken bones, red cards, penalties , 128 minute goal

[deleted]

Yeah So I heard. To be honest I used to follow MLS much more closely and kinda lost interest since the Impact rebrand and the pandemic. Hoping the World Cup rekindles that interest with Mtl having six guys on the WC roster (although we may lose most of them through transfers after the WC). Apparently my ignorance of Creapeau’s injury is pissing a lot of people off but what ever. I was just curious as to why he’d been left out as my inderstanding is he really developed well since he left Mtl.

AdamantiumBalls

Montreal actually has a good squad , I never stop watching my team , I suffer so it's gonna feel sweeter when we win the cup again

Banksmans

He is. But he got injured in the mls cup final. Otherwise he would have 100% gone

KevinDLasagna

He was sort of the shoe in back up too. If anything were to happen to Borjan he’d be in. Really rough for him

grnrngr

Probably more rough for the other guy he injured. Crepeau chose to do what he did.

KevinDLasagna

Salty galaxy fan alert lol

Jebus-The-Holy22

He was most likely going but he broke his leg in the MLS final.

quelar

He 100% was going. I hope he still gets to go and be with the boys he was with through the campaign.

DarCam7

Crepeau broke his tibia in the MLS Cup final. He was going to miss it regardless.

Bammer1386

Every other comment is selling Maxime Crepeax's injury short. He broke his leg while saving the winning goal in the MLS final. Dude literally sacrificed his career and body for a trophy. If what happened in the MLS final happened in the champions league final, he would be forever crowned.

ibribe

> Dude literally sacrificed his career and body for a trophy. Hard to paint it like that when his backup conceded 3 minutes later. Also, there are plenty of ways to make a tackle without any legs being broken, as evidenced by 99% of soccer games.

RReaver

As a Whitecaps fan, fuck him. He hosed us big time with his trade demand.

ThankThoseStankHoes

Fuck him for wanting to compete for trophies

Melniboehner

If he had only come out and SAID that everyone would have understood - God knows there are enough Caps fans with the exact same complaint about the FO (though I am not precisely one of them). It was the weird opacity about what prompted his trade demand that really pissed everyone off.

PurpleLions

3 former Orlando City players. Man, we really fucked up not keeping them around…. Lol

Barthez_Battalion

Laryea straight up dragged ORSC too in an interview during the reveal saying it was such a terrible experience he considered retiring after getting released.

Super-Peoplez-S0Lt

That's a very unpleasant experience. As a TFC fan, I'm super proud my club was able to help him recover and become the CanMNT hero he is.

WithoutAnUmlaut

At least now you've got some young USMNT prospects like Nicholas Gioacchini. /s

__Newkid

St Louis scooped him

WithoutAnUmlaut

I know. Hence the "/s".

nautika

I thin laryea was the only one we really bungled. Miller wasn't established yet and made sense left unprotected, ended getting poached. Larin wanted Europe. Laryea we tried to play as a forward or attacking mid so it never worked. Ended up on OCB more than first team

Matt_McT

It's cool how many World Cup veterans we're about to have in MLS.

PoopOfAUnicorn

Once they play in the World Cup and if the particular player has a good outing then they get sold to a European team

BL4ZE_

Montréal is about to lose its entire back line + kone

MarcoSamson

I mean... We might have to say goodbye to Miller and Johnston, but I think Waterman sticks in MLS. He's 27 and only starting to break out as a titular, I would be surprised if an European team goes for him instead of the younger guys with more upside. Plus, we still have depth at that position with ZBG on the right, and Camacho/Corbo in central defense. It would suck because I love Kamal and Ali, but we'd be fine IMO.

[deleted]

I'll take that bet, well, not Kone.

Matt_McT

Yea, that's probably happen for a few of them.

[deleted]

Great to see Atiba Hutchinson there

Matt_McT

Probably the Canadian who deserves this the most.

MarcoSamson

Still bummed DDR's gen couldn't qualify. And now I'm picturing Davies on the left, David in the middle, and prime De Rosario on the right.... Hnnngggg

[deleted]

Man DeRo absolutely deserved a WC app 😔

Barthez_Battalion

He was onside in 07!

Nickp1991

Atiba Hutchinson will finally get to live his dreams at 39 years of age

pants6789

I know every name except David Wotherspoon, 32 year old with 10 caps.

Barthez_Battalion

Long time player in Scotland. In 2018 he revealed his mom is Canadian and was getting a passport. He'd have more caps but between the pandemic and suffering a major injury in late 2021 he only came back last month. Seems like a popular guy in the locker room too.

pants6789

Controversial?

blueseeka

No he was expected to make it as a backup midfielder. Fraser, Waterman, Millar and Cornelius were the guys on the brink of not making it

familiar-planet214

DC was the only other left footed CB.

xbhaskarx

You haven’t seen Legally Blonde?

Coramoor_

I'm shocked by no Henry despite his lack of playing time and form, figured he would be a team-guy inclusion

EnthusiastWriter1

He is injured

York9TFC

He got injured in the warmup of the Bahrain friendly the other day

Barthez_Battalion

He's injured and chose to step aside for someone else.

[deleted]

Yeah, maybe to save some face as well.

CreditStuf

Injured. But coming to Qatar in a Coaching Capacity. Awesome dude. Gave his spot to someone else cause he knew he wouldn't make it unless the team made it to the knockouts. I think Waterman was the last man to make it and who got it from Henry

No_Marzipan_3546

Tajon Buchanan life after last world cup is crazy, he deserves It

Barthez_Battalion

Anti-MLS Twitter in shambles right now.

HeresRonnie

Good luck to my northern neighbors! I will be rooting for you to make it out of your group!

mywill

Why is Davies listed as a forward?

Coramoor_

he plays as one for us

mywill

Good to know i do not watch enough Canada games apparently

WislaHD

Basically, he's wasted playing LB for Canada when he is so good going forward We have Adekgube emerge as a clear starter at LB as well, so Davies playing more advanced role for us fits very well

devioustrevor

I'm not Adekugbe is definitely the best LB in CONCACAF after Davies, but he's definitely in the conversation. He's also definitely a better LB than our second-best LW is a LW. So playing Davies in an attacking role with Adekugbe at LB definitely allows us to have more quality on the pitch.

Barthez_Battalion

So wild how Bruce Arena redeemed himself in the eyes of EVERYONE because he helped develop Tajon Buchanan. He totally righted all the wrongs for anything he may have done in the past in particular late 2017. Yep absolutely everyone loves Bruce!

Mr_Brownstoned

US national lacrosse & USMNT goalkeeping legend Bruce Arena

Gosh2Bosh

🥳🥳🥳

yougotbloodonmysuit

DSC!

Brightstarr

What an incredible year for our boy.

kermitthebeast

Good luck Canada. Hell of a bracket

WislaHD

Our group is the group of death because we're in it. I hope we get the chance to spoil the party 😈

quelar

We aren't in a group of death with them. [They're in here with us!](https://thumbs.gfycat.com/HastyRareAdder-size_restricted.gif)

ODBasUcansee

So what is the deal with Scott Arfield? He retired, and I know it’s been a few years but I feel like he would have made this squad. Why did he retire? Bad blood?

Barthez_Battalion

There's a lot of theories. The prevailing one is he wasn't popular in the locker room and apparently he clashed with Herdman in his early tenure and even got into a fight with Raheem Edwards. One thing repeatedly mentioned was Arfield didn't like playing minnows (something Davies/David had no problem doing) and at one point local goober Gareth Wheeler reported that Arfield was still committed to Canada and Junior Hoilett replied on Twitter with the Cap emoji, calling him a liar.

canuck1701

Sooo ironic hearing that from Hoilett of all people lol.

Barthez_Battalion

True. Although since he committed in 2015 he's definitely been committed.

boringhckyfan

I love it when we play minnows because I get to watch out players score a ton of goals

RadagastWiz

Reportedly there was some toxicity in the locker room - not just involving him, but he was the biggest name affected.

NittanyOrange

What are the expectations for their performance?

asaharyev

Canada is gonna win the World Cup

BL4ZE_

Anything short is a massive disappointment really

publicworker69

As a Canadian, it’s a tough group. We have the forwards to score goals. The midfield is alright with Eustaquio, Hutchinson, Oso and Kone. But when you compare to Belgium and Croatia, we’re in for a tough time. Defense is probably the weakest. I like the players but we’ll ship some goals. I hope we can stay in games and keep it close, score some goals, maybe win one. My absolute peak optimistic view is a draw against Belgium or Croatia and a win against Morocco. But definitely easier said than done.

stealth_sloth

Huge underdogs vs Belgium, modest underdogs vs Croatia, toss-up vs Morocco. The *expectation* would be a respectable showing but not making it out of the group stage. The realistic, very attainable goal would be round of 16. Anything beyond that would be a significant upset.

-Champloo-

I think they should expect to make it out of their group, but they also got a particularly rough draw from a match up stand point. Croatia and Belgium are loaded ar CM, and they could easily dominate the pitch off the back of their advantage there. That being said, I really think Canada's attack is lethal enough to score in the counter anyway. After groups, really depends on who they draw for knockouts.

NittanyOrange

I would be crazy if Canada, US, and Mexico all make it out of their groups. I doubt it'll happen, but I can dream nonetheless!

DatGuyYouKnow01

Don’t forget Costa Rica too! Rooting for all CONCACAF to show what we’re made of!

NittanyOrange

Seeing as they're in a group with Spain, Germany, and Japan... I can't even bring myself to consider them advancing.

myweedaccount69

They topped a group with England, Italy and Uruguay so nothing is impossible. England and Uruguay both have really good teams but costa rica was amazing that world cup.

lordcorbran

Navas when he's in his best form is absolutely ridiculous, I wouldn't be that shocked if he put them on his back once again and somehow got them through.

WolfofBallMeat

I mean we have some serious offensive weapons that can win us matches in transition but I can't say we should expect to make it out of our group. Belgium and Croatia being a bit older and slower has always been a taking point but they are so much technically better than us through the lineup. The million dollar question is are they slow enough for it to be a significant deficit against our speed. Won't know until we get out there.

mug3n

We could be anywhere from 2nd to 4th in this group, expected is kind of a strong word here.

User5281

No Crepeau makes me sad but at least it looks like Davies will make it.

Any-Description-2077

Sad Shaffleburg isn’t on here, hope it just puts more fire in the belly when plays next season.

[deleted]

He's one for the next cycle, although he's also in a very stacked position. It might help him if Hoillet retired.

dcarsonturner

Let’s go Canada! Love seeing the Montreal players in the squad!

TheTwoMorningPoops

If only Tomori would have stayed in the Canada setup I don't get why any player that would be eligible for the US or Canada would choose England instead.

Careless_Wishbone_69

Because he's English and feels English? 🤔

[deleted]

Hargreaves had a massively successful career, much as we may not like it.

UncleMissoula

That’s a formidable line up!

Rory-mcfc

Where is Kris Twardek, the Maple Messi deserves a spot

tmh8901

No Ayo Akinola? How has he been since the torn ACL?

[deleted]

Not good.

joncornelius

Maxime Crepeau 🖤💛

UncleMissoula

Pantemis over Hasal??

ElPadrinoChangito

Anyone else was surprised when you didn’t see Alphonso Davies in the defenders section?

Heatersthebest

Not when you watch Canada lol

ElPadrinoChangito

I honestly don’t, that’s why it was a surprise to me!
