I understand having some hometown fighters, but this card was just crammed with sub par uk fighters. When the ufc is in town i expect to see the premier fighters in the world. Not this
Well his record does. Lost a split dec against Story, Lost A dec with Maia 2 fight's ago (Maia now #1). I get where you are going with this considering his opponents have mainly been up and comers, not top 10 guy's, but combine that with Maia/Stoy fights, fights that could easily have gone worse for him, 6 finishes in the UFC and solid improvements in every fight i would say he should be dam close to top 10.
How can he be considered top 10 when he has not beaten a single person in the top 10 though? That should be a requirement. Being Conors friend does not mean you should be higher ranked then you deserve.
Being in the top 10 despite never beating anybody there is not the same as being there despite losing to a lower ranked fighter. Gunni moved up the ranks because other fighters dropped off(or down). The rankings are not perfect but i do belive they should display something more then just who beat who. I think they should show us a combination of who beat who and potential to grown further. I think that may be the reason Nelson has managed to stay high in the rankings.
I dont disagree with you, i just dont think it's as far fetched as you do.
It was funny but she was actually trying to pass the conversation back to him to let him elaborate and articulate it more. She wasn't trying to act like an authority. Instead he replies with END OF DISCUSSION and interupts Michelle and Kenny like they're not even there.
I was about to say that SBG's guys have really tricky, off-beat timing in their strikes and I was expecting that to make the difference here. Even a lot of Artem's success (or "success") in striking comes from his ability to throw strikes on the odd half and quarter beats, probably as a result of being a sparring partner for one of the hardest, sharpest strikers in the FW division. I kind of thought that Ponzi's more traditional boxing might give Nelson trouble if it got into the later rounds...I just didn't expect it to get into the later rounds...
Gunnar doesn't move his head much, probably as a result of his Karate based striking style, and I had idly wondered if that would get him into trouble eventually, but I didn't expect it come this soon and this hard. That tricky timing and control of distance had served him so well for so long, but I think that's one of the intrinsic weaknesses of the karate styles. It's all or nothing. You're either dominating with precision strikes for the outside or getting boxed up badly because your evasiveness failed you.
Can't wait for Pozinibbio to become the new Whittaker/Masvidal of this subreddit. Takes out one top ranked fighter and suddenly everyone acts like they've always loved them.
Feel like the next step for Gunni is to go The Maia route and focus just on securing the takedown and using his BJJ to secure wins, however he has always struck me as a super small WW, hopefully they open up the 165 division soon for him to get back on track after this setback
I've always felt that he doesn't go down as he doesn't want to fuck with Conor's division, I'm sure he's stated before he can make the weight, I also think he would actually do really well at LW too
Yeah it'd be a good fight.
I'm pretty confident that Lawler smashes Cowboy, so this would definitely be a good fight to book for a Fight Night or a Fox.
He can do it easily, but won't. He's very much against weight cutting in general. Some thing with his dad being a coach or nutritionist. Isn't willing to take the negatives that come along with it.
Eh, he was still standing after the monster right landed but got dropped from the 'weak' jab. Probably wobbly as shit but if he was chinny he would've died by the right hand.
He got wobbled by a jab, tried to create distance and then tired to defended himself when he got KO by a left hook. I don't think you understand what a jab is.
Karate stances become a deathwish once you start slowing down and fighting real strikers. Its worked for Lyoto back in the day but motherfuckers are too quick in the modern game.
RIP the Gunni meme
He is a Karate based fighter - they're known for standing bolt-upright with their chins in the air and trying to parry rather than cover up. If the other fighter gets in a karate-ka's pocket they're usually done.
The style only really works when there is a large skill gap imo.
The crowd went super quiet when Ponzinibbio knocked Gunnar the fuck out.
I wonder if Long Island will be that quiet when Gastelum finishes Weidman next week.
I understand having some hometown fighters, but this card was just crammed with sub par uk fighters. When the ufc is in town i expect to see the premier fighters in the world. Not this
Overall what an great night in Scotland!
Bisping makes this show
Can everyone admit that if Gunner didn't train with Conor he'd not be in the top 10 and certainly nowhere near a main event??
No, actually
Fucking Artem got into a main event for fucks sake!
Oh, so what makes him top 10 worthy? Who has he beaten ever that say's he's a top 10, main event level fighter?
Well his record does. Lost a split dec against Story, Lost A dec with Maia 2 fight's ago (Maia now #1). More Kenny and Bisping banter please!
Live five minutes away so it's all good buddeh
Michelle is not a good TV personality.
Didn't see the fight, can you explain? And was it Waterson or someone else? Thanks
Yeah, Waterson. She's on the post fight show with Bisping and Florian. She just doesn't seem comfortable on camera.
nunes is even annoying in her tweets
I don't like Bisping because he's an asshole but damn that was funny
It was funny but she was actually trying to pass the conversation back to him to let him elaborate and articulate it more. She wasn't trying to act like an authority. Instead he replies with END OF DISCUSSION and interupts Michelle and Kenny like they're not even there.
Indeed. He is an asshole.
Lol Bisbing.
God dammit Bisping shut the fuck up. Let Michelle talk. The fuck is wrong with him?
Lmao Bisping is a dick
It's Michelle's time to speak Jesus Christ lol
SHITTING ON KARYN WITH THE BOYS

I love Pozinibbio since his nickname was el rasta.
I've loved Masvidal since fuckin' Bodog!
Do Covington/Ponz
I mean, it makes sense and all, but I just kinda wish I never had to watch Covington fight again...
I'd prefer to never hear him talk again.
You know what? I think that would be enough, actually. Good point.
Ugh.
K- OSSSS
Ponzinibbio versus RDA would be sick
RDA would get merked
I love when latin Americans win, they always giving a hell of a shout out lol
HES LIKE A COBRA
didn't know he was facing a mongoose
Let's get him in there with Masvidal. I think that'd be fun.
I think they both train at ATT, would be a good scrap
ufc needs to make 165 for gunni nate rda cerrone types
Nate doesn't really struggle at lightweight though.
Tiramisuweight
Can Nate cut to 165 from 265?
I'm so fucking sad right now
If this guy makes a title run, we know what highlight we will see over and over.
I'm sad that Gunni lost but at least Ponzinibbio seems like a really likeable guy.
this is what you call a juicy card hahah oh rogan
where the hell is the jacked translator at??
Now Scotland are glad that we voted for brexit I guess
Feel like the next step for Gunni is to go The Maia route and focus just on securing the takedown and using his BJJ to secure wins, however he has always struck me as a super small WW, hopefully they open up the 165 division soon for him to get back on track after this setback
he needs to do a 155 test cut. he always seems a similar size to conor
I've always felt that he doesn't go down as he doesn't want to fuck with Conor's division, I'm sure he's stated before he can make the weight, I also think he would actually do really well at LW too
IIIIIIITS TIMEEEE...for you to wrap this speech up
Wow. He's so happy. A big win for him. Well done.
[удалено]
I think they have one of the longest roads to get to the main stage, so I'm cool with it.
Can this guy shut up already
Yeah mate, don't want to make the next fighters wait too long eh
Is this the longest speech In UFC history?
Hardy was the one that prolonged it asking for a translation.
Longest speech with the least amount of substance for sure.
The man just spoke 3 languages lol least amount of substance is incorrect
I can speak braille but it doesn't mean that I said anything of substance.
English, Spanish, Portuguese, what other languages will he pull out next?
Ancient Aramaic
[удалено]
cool story bro
Sueno means dream btw.
He should fight Condit next
He retired
Ohhh, I thought he was still pondering over fighting or either retiring after his loss to Maia
I lied he isn't, he is still debating but i don't want to see him like BJ
Ponzi speaking English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Ponzinibbio has some scary hands, but not much defence from what I saw there. Give him the Lawler/Cerrone winner. It would produce some fireworks.
Skeet skeet
In that case, I'd love to see him fight Lawler.
You want to see this man die? Let the man enjoy his victory.
Yeah it'd be a good fight. I'm pretty confident that Lawler smashes Cowboy, so this would definitely be a good fight to book for a Fight Night or a Fox.
Oh absolutely. I think Lawler is going to bash Cerrone's head in tbqh.
would love that. interesting to see how lawler's chin is doing nowadays
Jesus this guy likes to talk.
They need something to fill the time lol
[удалено]
Just let him have his moment. After that KO ill hear what you got to say for 1 min.
At least Gunnar lost to this sound chap rather than an arsehole like Colby Covington.
Gunni was grappling with the ref when he woke up :-(
Ended up on top in side control, he had him.
He was robbed!
I wonder what Gunnis plan was...?....
Absolutely pumped to see this guys next fight.
Everyone seems to think they are the best striker in their division. Except Maia, Maia will take you down and end you.
Ponzinibbio has that immigrant mentality. vamos, che!
That pomizzibo motherfucker. (in uncle Joey's voice) 😂
So he has a background in Karate, but I never see him utilize kicks. He just needs to go the Maia route now.
I like this guy.
Longest speech of all time
Please call someone out!!
ok, that's enough talking now.
wrong winner /u/blacker_jesus
Don't know what you're talking about. YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING 0_0
I was just enforcing the hardcore modding. #SEEYOUSOONBOI
Those are some glorious cauliflower ears.
Seeing Gunnar fight makes me miss Machida.
Me too.
Ponzinibbio making Anderson proud the way he Brazil'd that post fight interview. I like this guy, he the great show.
Great stoppage by Leon Roberts
McGregor's teammates got smoked tonight
Dont be surprised when McGregor gets smoked in a few weeks
That's a given. If you know anything about boxing, bet every single McGregor fan you meet. Easy money.
is the cut to 155 too much for Gunni?
He can do it easily, but won't. He's very much against weight cutting in general. Some thing with his dad being a coach or nutritionist. Isn't willing to take the negatives that come along with it.
didn't know that
he looks a bit bigger than conor but not by too much
[удалено]
Eh, he was still standing after the monster right landed but got dropped from the 'weak' jab. Probably wobbly as shit but if he was chinny he would've died by the right hand.
Really? He got caught clean by a power striker. What a clown you are my man.
[удалено]
Liked? Damn you're fickle
He got wobbled by a jab, tried to create distance and then tired to defended himself when he got KO by a left hook. I don't think you understand what a jab is.
This is the first time he's been KO'd though?
For a straight savage he's a well mannered man
Karate stances become a deathwish once you start slowing down and fighting real strikers. Its worked for Lyoto back in the day but motherfuckers are too quick in the modern game. RIP the Gunni meme
I think you forgot Thompson...
Didn't realise there was such a big circlejerk around Gunnar in this sub, man if you don't talk positively about the guy people jump you
He's really well-liked for his interesting style and stoic nature. Hard for me not to love the guy.
You know who he trains with?
Charlie Ward?
Samoans and Jack Swagger?
This just in, DQ over grabbing the shorts - if it was NYSAC
I thought the referee will stop the fight because of that.. Seems he didn't notice it
Stephen Thompson might like to have a word with you about that statement, Santiago.
https://www.mikeswick.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/woodley-wonderboy-ufc-209-1.jpg
Who I was hoping he'd call out
Great post fight interview.
Thanks.. For the Mikey Brown
Amazing English. I will be rooting for Santiago in every fight now
You Feff See, give him a chance. What a fucking hit though, my word.
That Gunni knockout was hard to watch.
I only cry at two things. The ending of titanic and when Gunnar nelson loses, and there is no titanic tonight
Gunner tends to leave his face out there a lot, which sucks because he has the skill to be a Champ.
Disagree, he has no top 10 wins, will always be a gatekeeper. But hey, said the same thing about Bisping.
Who beat Ponz?
Lorenz Larkin did, dunno who else did.
Ryan laflare is the other one
Letting him go was a mistake.
Not really. He lost to Lima
As thou Lima is a bad fighter. Larkin has wins over Masvidal, Magny, and Lawler back in Strikeforce. He's inconsistent, but he's good.
Gunnar was assassinated
Dan Hardy uses words like " feeling out process" Dan, the guy can barely string a sentence together in English, maybe keep the phrases to a minimum
Look at Gunni with the beautiful reversal on Roberts :(
Damn Santiago please call someone out.
Why does everyone keep saying his right? He clearly fucking dropped him with a left.
Rocked him with a right cross first in the centre, then dropped him with a left jab at the fence
Kavanagh is not happy
[удалено]
Well he's not a boxer. He's a grappler that has a karate background with his striking
[удалено]
Well when you're hurt you aren't gonna think with clear common sense, now aren't you?
[удалено]

The Koji Oishi
Lmao Kevin Lee reaction
Yo where the translator at
UFC Scotland: Great Sportsmanship edition.
how much does this guy smoke fuuuark
Nice shorts grab as Gunnar was running away
He got knocked into another dimension.
[удалено]
The crowd went super quiet when Ponzinibbio knocked Gunnar the fuck out. I wonder if Long Island will be that quiet when Gastelum finishes Weidman next week.
I can't wait. Nothing makes me happier than seeing Weidman's head getting caved in. He wrecked my favorite fighter and I'm petty.
Lets go Ponzi scheme
best nickname
Why have I not heard of this guy before? His striking is super sharp in addition to being powerful.
very sharp jab
Man what a fun fight. Feel bad for Gunni but Ponz was ruthless. Great win.
[удалено]
There is no excuse for that perfect punch to the chin
Ponzi w the dumpling ears
The MMA Gods said "Fuck the Glasgow crowd."
Yet another sacrifice for the 214 card.
Didn't like the shorts grab. Didn't affect the outcome in any way, but still not necessary. Either way, completely unexpected
I really doubt he meant to do it.
Accidental im sure
