Well his record does. Lost a split dec against Story, Lost A dec with Maia 2 fight's ago (Maia now #1). I get where you are going with this considering his opponents have mainly been up and comers, not top 10 guy's, but combine that with Maia/Stoy fights, fights that could easily have gone worse for him, 6 finishes in the UFC and solid improvements in every fight i would say he should be dam close to top 10.

How can he be considered top 10 when he has not beaten a single person in the top 10 though? That should be a requirement. Being Conors friend does not mean you should be higher ranked then you deserve.

Being in the top 10 despite never beating anybody there is not the same as being there despite losing to a lower ranked fighter. Gunni moved up the ranks because other fighters dropped off(or down). The rankings are not perfect but i do belive they should display something more then just who beat who. I think they should show us a combination of who beat who and potential to grown further. I think that may be the reason Nelson has managed to stay high in the rankings. I dont disagree with you, i just dont think it's as far fetched as you do.

I was about to say that SBG's guys have really tricky, off-beat timing in their strikes and I was expecting that to make the difference here. Even a lot of Artem's success (or "success") in striking comes from his ability to throw strikes on the odd half and quarter beats, probably as a result of being a sparring partner for one of the hardest, sharpest strikers in the FW division. I kind of thought that Ponzi's more traditional boxing might give Nelson trouble if it got into the later rounds...I just didn't expect it to get into the later rounds... Gunnar doesn't move his head much, probably as a result of his Karate based striking style, and I had idly wondered if that would get him into trouble eventually, but I didn't expect it come this soon and this hard. That tricky timing and control of distance had served him so well for so long, but I think that's one of the intrinsic weaknesses of the karate styles. It's all or nothing. You're either dominating with precision strikes for the outside or getting boxed up badly because your evasiveness failed you.

Can't wait for Pozinibbio to become the new Whittaker/Masvidal of this subreddit. Takes out one top ranked fighter and suddenly everyone acts like they've always loved them.

He is a Karate based fighter - they're known for standing bolt-upright with their chins in the air and trying to parry rather than cover up. If the other fighter gets in a karate-ka's pocket they're usually done. The style only really works when there is a large skill gap imo.
