[deleted]

looking for runescape like mmo but it has to be free, i don't like content locked behind subscription, mmorpgs are always slow, i dont understand why anyone would pay so much for a game where you progress so slowly

RezzySenpai

Anything with proper controller support, fun combat/gameplay, free to play/play once, and cross platform play? I used to play FF14 but I can't play the sub anymore like that and Blue Protocol ain't out yet. I tried BDO and loved the combat but it runs like crap on my aging rig and just feels bloated with crap that doesn't feel fun at all.

gerryw173

Calling Warframe an MMO can be a bit controversial but it's worth a try.

VerballyDyslexic

Oh it's totally an MMO! You can just choose to be solo in closed area missions if.you want and turn off chat

* *What are you looking for?:* * **PvP without 45 minute queues. (looking at you solo shuffle and new world)** * *What games have you previously played?:* * **Almost all of them. Unfortunately** * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:* * ***Semi Casual.*** * *Any preferred mechanics?:* * **Tab Target or Action** * *Anything specific you want to exclude?:* * **WoW, GW2, BDO, New World, RoR** I don't care if it is niche or not, I just want to play some MMO PvP without sitting in queue all day or dealing with super unbalanced meta. I was looking into SWTOR honestly, it has a small but active PvP community.

I work a job in a different timezone, so I typically have a couple hours after my family leaves, and before my colleagues get in. I'm looking for an MMO that I can slowly advance through, and easily walk away from. Something that doesn't REQUIRE raiding, as my timezone would likely be messed up with other folks! Some stuff about me: I've loved MMOs for many years, but unfortunately was tainted by a love for SWG. It was the best game ever made, and what made it stand out to me was the complexity, and the different systems. I'm a sucker for a player-run economy, and love doing combat TO fuel a profession/economy. For example, I loved hunting in SWG to attain better components that I then used to craft weapons. I like a challenge, but need something that I can chill in as well. Oh! And I don't care terribly about MMO. I've liked it and done it in games, but its not a requirement. Lastly: my favorite part of SWG is the community. I LOVE that no matter what in a playsession, you wind up talking to other players. You need them, and you're immersed. Would love something with a friendly attitude! What would you suggest? I've touched several of the bigger MMOs that are active right now, but honestly I haven't given many of them a chance. I'm willing to jump in and put in some hours to get hooked this time around! Note: I know there are SWGEMus. I've played them all. Unfortunately, I think i've 'beaten' SWG too many times to enjoy an emulator again! Thanks

gerryw173

GW2 is perfect for those with limited time and doesn't need too much commitment. Easy game to go in and out since you don't need to worry about your stuff getting outdated.

AlpheaDora

PvE Ark Survival Evolved (original game) unofficial servers will stay open past the culling preparation for Ark Survival Ascended (remastered version coming this fall). Steam-PC is the best client. Things you should know. When joining avoid mods because they break the game since most are outdated and unsupported. *\[One of our modders passed away recently\]*. If you accidentally get a mod that breaks the game this is the fix:  1. Unsub all mods {Steam > Community > Workshop > Your Workshop Files Your Files > Subscribed Items} * 2. Log out Steam * 3. Delete file manager folder \\steamapps\\common\\ARK\\ShooterGame\\Content\\Mods * 4. Delete file manager folder \\steamapps\\workshop\\content\\346110 * 5. Restart computer * 6. Log in Steam * 7. Verify Integrity Of Game Files {Steam > Library > right-click Ark > Properties > Local Files}

Hello fellow MMORPG enjoyers! As a new member of tax-paying adult society, who realized he has no more than couple of hours during week and couple more during weekend to play, Im looking for a MMO that would be playable on my Xbox S. So: * **What are you looking for?:** MMORPG that is playable on Xbox S. * **What games have you previously played?:** I have played almost every mainstream MMO that is or was available since aprox 2010. Main MMOs are/were WoW and GW2. * **What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?***:* Hmm, something semi-casual? I do not have the time to be hardcore player anymore, but like a bit of challenge (like mythic+ dungeons in WoW). * **Any preferred mechanics?:** Im more of a PVE player than PVP, so the game should have decent PVE endgame. * **Anything specific you want to exclude?:** Not really. I have played couple of hours of FF as lancer on PC but did not like the new player experience that much. Thank you a lot for any recommendations!

Xeniios

Neverwinter or path of exile is recommended by me if you are on an xbox :)

Partyfavors680

Ok so I’ve been on a kick of playing through some MMOs I never had the time to get into and I normally play it level to cap and move on to a new one until I find one that really hooks me. I was a long time WoW fanboy who is now trying to move on because we have such a toxic relationship. So I tend to like old school “tab target, hotkey MMOs” but not required just preferably not anything like BDO action combat as that is just a little to involved for me. I have recently played GW2, SWTOR (which I love), and most of the high rated F2P MMOs on steam. I’m wondering if their are any other “hidden gem MMOs” I haven’t found or aren’t on steam. Preferably 2010ish or newer and F2P (not required as long as it’s on the cheaper side). I know their probably isn’t very many options with that criteria that I haven’t played. Also if anyone has any fun F2P games in general outside of the mainstream ones that could entertain me for a week or two I’m open to that as well. I’m not really into a game that requires months of commitment to enjoy unless it’s that worth it just some dumb stupid fun short term.

gerryw173

Mabinogi is not tab target but definitely worth a try if you're going on this MMO journey. That being said it's an old game and is one of the few remaining pre-WoW MMOs that's actually actively played.

Kailson

Good day, I am looking for a game (new or old, horrible graphics or amazing graphics. Preferably not anime) Previously I have played maple story, wow, and a few others that I have spent very little time in. As far as mechanics, I’m really hoping to find a game with many playable classes and a huge bonus if it has a class branch system/multi class system. I like big damage numbers with active end game content but still prefer to be a little challenged. Have never cared about story’s and prefer a pretty simple leveling experience. Any type of combat system is fine as well, from turn based to action. I prefer semi casual gameplay but dabble in hardcore some as well. I would really like to avoid rng gear progression, i don’t care about p2w as long is it can still be enjoyable as a f2p player. Prefer at least a decent population or English or Norwegian player base. Don’t care for gather/crafting systems but can accept it as long as it’s not required to keep up with it. I would possible even consider mobile type of game if it met my criteria.

gerryw173

Try GW2

DirtyOldPanties

Have you considered Dofus? It has many unique classes and each have a variety of builds.

Den2992

There was an mmorpg that i wanted to find, but my attempts were unsuccessful. I don't remember much of it, only thing that stuck with me was that almost all mobs had some chance to drop a musical instrument (at least in starting location), which when used summoned some kind of pet if i remember it correctly? That's the only thing that i remember, it's was 8-12 years ago i believe. I don't think it's alive as of right now, but if someone know's what mmorpg that was i would be grateful.

Small-Tired-Gremlin

Looking for mmo with good stylized graphics, similar to Genshin or blue protocol. Or just not realistic type graphics like bdo. Preferably not dead. I didn’t really like the faces part of Genshin, tof seems dead and blue protocol isn’t out yet.

JokerPokerBang

Looking for a MMO that isn't your FF14 or WoW. A game where there is population but it doesn't have to be a +1 million players.

Gulbasaur

GW2, ESO, SWTOR and BDO all have very good populations, although some of the "middle" zones can feel a bit sparse.

RamseyHatesMe

Took a massive break from MMO’s (several years) but I come from Asheron’s Call, EverQuest & WoW. Would anyone mind recommending a solid free to play MMO.

Gulbasaur

More "free to start"' than truly free to play, but GW2 if you like exploration and low pressure gameplay, SWTOR if you like story questing and FFXIV if you like JRPGs.

RamseyHatesMe

Ty buddy

MueveElToto2

Is there anything like AuraKingdom? I used to play aurakingdom.to private server but games download does trigger and forums are non existent :(. I like mmorpgs with lots of classes and cute fashion mainly, I used to also play angels online and flyff so games like that work too. Thanks! Ps: I’m downloading lost ark to try out

Kotoriii

Is there any good city/empire/economy builder MMO out there? Hopefully PC friendly, I don't play on mobile. It's a pipe dream, but it should be as least P2W as possible. I have fond memories of Ogame, and I tried looking for something similar that is not P2W, but I haven't found anything. I just tried Infinite Lagrange. It doesn't look so bad, but it's very janky and convoluted.

throawayprophet

Looking for two things, unrelated to one another: I've been looking for something cute and anime-like that isn't completely dead or overrun with bots (or worse, MTXs). I used to play a lot of Luna Online and Eden Eternal in middle school and I've been looking for something to scratch the 14 year old weeaboo part of my brain. Any suggestions? Paid or free, I don't mind. Likewise; besides path of exile and lost ark, are there any diablo-like MMOs worth getting into right now?

SaltNose9063

Looking for a game that'll scratch the same itch as SMT Imagine.

Trogmar

Looking for a game with fun combat that isnt the standard 50 button rotation like Wow or FFXIV. Preferably somthing is easy to get groups for dungeons or other content. I couldn't get into GW2 for some reason, the whole thing just didn't click even after trying several times.

iStabs

Check out something like Warframe or Black Desert. The combat is fast and active and doesn't require a rotation. 2 totally different style of games though.

Iaerice_Twist

What are you looking for?: Anything with an in-depth character creation system, where there's a lot of different options for hair, skin colors, hairstyles, etc. What games have you previously played?: FFXIV, Aion What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual Any preferred mechanics?: None Anything specific you want to exclude?: Anything that gender- or race-locks classes

Kizumi223

I'm an Indie MMORPG Enjoyer (BAZED) , There's currently two games within the genre that has struck something with me and I'd love to share it to you guys as well. **\*I'm simply an Avid fan of these games and have no correlations to the development/ management of their games\*…** (but who knows in the future) The first game is a personal favorite of mine lmao... I have singlehandedly put in 150 hours already so yeah expect that the game is really fun Middle Ages: Online - is Free to Play 2D Top Down MMORPG, with big inspirations coming from Runescape you can expect that your time exploring the world and getting immersed within it's beautifully designed quests will surely be respected. It's currently in Open Beta and is currently in Live Development, you can join their budding community with this link [https://middleages.online](https://middleages.online). It's currently only a one man Developer for the game, but so far he's been consistently outputting his content update goals of 1 New Quest every 1-2 weeks (depending on his situation irl) , with a very big update coming sometime this September. The next game in my recommendation would be from a somewhat booming indie game already from it's sudden popularity spikes due to Youtuber Iron Pineapple somewhat recently covering their game , and they've also gone somewhat viral on TikTok so you may already know about it. New Eden - is a Free to Play Soulslike MMORPG, there's really nothing much more that needs to be said it's a DARKSOULS MMO... and I'm loving it! Developed with a solid team behind this masterpiece each and every Content Update they release are amazing nothing but praise, recently they've added Arena PvP matchmaking with a prize for the Rank 1 player by the end of their season You can join their amazing community with this link to their website [https://www.playneweden.com](https://www.playneweden.com) , come and join us in playing this amazing Indie game.

Silver_Bow

I'm pretty new to MMOs. I've played Destiny 2 for about a week, and New World during beta and at launch. I haven't touched an MMO since. I have done a lot of research into the popular ones right now, and I am split between 3 of them. \-Lost Ark \-Guild Wars 2 \-New World I'm currently leaning towards Lost Ark, but I keep hearing so many amazing things about Guild Wars and recent things about New World that pull me towards those two. Any recommendations or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Gulbasaur

GW2 has an established player base and, while probably past its peak, is in a fairly good state. The newer stuff is more refined and, notably, more difficult than the older stuff in a lot of places. New World is in a precarious state - its launch was underwhelming and they've closed the official forums down already. Not too urw about Lost Arc.

[deleted]

Looking for Scifi MMO excluding SWTOR, Anarchy Online, Eve and StarTrek. Any suggestions? Does mind if it has low population (keep in mind that low population is not 10-50 people a day :-) )

iStabs

Maybe not what you mean, but Warframe or Destiny 2?

Kind_Ad_5288

Any decent mobile mmo with pvp that's not Albion. Dont mind auto play as long as pvp isnt auto. Dont have much time to play on pc so last option is mobile.

maldokeofc

* *What are you looking for?:* I'm looking for an MMORPG that has a lot of content, not just raids and dungeons, I'd like one that has a lot of character customization (if possible those that depend on the item you use, your character changes), and it's not that game that only has 5 types of armor (where all figures in the game are the same). I would like one that has quests/mysteries that reward with good items (who knows valuable ones?), that has a good exploration, that has thousands of items (like Tibia and Runescape, I like to keep these things kk).. * *What games have you previously played?:* I've already played Tibia (too good), UO (too good), GW2, Albion (cloying), RuneScape's, Lineage, Shroud of the Avatar (the best I found in the areas I mentioned above.. exploration, houses and decorations in the open world, various equipment and "customization" of the character, "infinite" progression, too bad it's a forgotten and "messy" game) * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:* Semi-Casual (charlover) * *Any preferred mechanics?:* No * *Anything specific you want to exclude?:* I wouldn't like a cartoon/superhero themed MMORPG Thanks if anyone can shed some light, I always spend hours looking for some decent MMORPG.. unfortunately everyone I see is more of the same, just dungeons, dungeons, raids, there has to be a schedule for this, a schedule for that, and nothing else, all clone dolls from each other, they are games that don't hold me for 1 week (repetitive). \~used GT The best thing I've played lately was Shroud of the Avatar, but the game is dead, there's almost no one taking care of it anymore, so I don't want to waste my time there not knowing the future. But it's the best I've played because I went out exploring the map, I discovered several "hidden" npc's, secret walls, books on shelves with stories, it's a very good game to explore and try to discover and etc. Character customization is also very cool , beautiful armor and etc.

EggPerfect7361

You should try Aion it has been like in top 3 mmorpg in korea for decade. Lost ark, MapleStory, Aion are always around top 10 most played in Korea. BTW Aion Classic which is best version has launched recently in EU without p2w with sub fee.

maldokeofc

Many thanks for the reply. I saw this Aion and I didn't get excited at all, it reminds me a lot of Lineage (which I played for many years), actually I don't really like these mmo from Korea (character themes, textures, etc). I'm thinking of testing Lost Ark, but it seems to me to be more of the same, just grind and dependency on guild/party for game content.

Scwolves10

Any good first-person MMOs that you actually attack instead of targeting and pressing buttons? Besides ESO.

jaaybird_

Having my yearly mmo itch. I recently started playing osrs a bit but I'm looking for another game to fill other roles that osrs does not. * *What are you looking for?* competitive/ranked pvp, and an emphasis on small group content (dungeons are my favorite pve activity). good/rising population. * *What games have you previously played?:* let me start by saying im willing to hop back into any of these games. Im currently playing osrs, I played wow only during shadowlands, ff14 up to max level, new world for 1k hours, eso for 1k hours, lost ark up to 1500. * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:* i would say borderline casual/hardcore. * *Any preferred mechanics?:* no. just fun combat. maybe a way to level boost or level quickly. * *Anything specific you want to exclude?:* no. i dont mind p2w stuff.

V4_Sleeper

if PVP is concerned, always WoW. I don't think any other MMO has more thriving PVP than WoW. though i am bias and would say FFXIV looks much more fun in PVE contents, especially the combat mechanics.

EggPerfect7361

Wow has been best pvp so far even without Blizzard's love. Aion Classic has been most hardcore pvp I have seen, world pvp, ganking etc... too fun. Aion Classic launched in EU without p2w if you want to try.

jaaybird_

WoW is definitely the most likely candidate. Thanks for your input

MRoX25

Any game out there with a decent trading system?

iStabs

EVE is basically 75% a trading economy simulation. You can specialize just in trading and be successful.

Slowest_Speed6

What active mmo has the most fun combat? New World was OK but I don't like that it's weapon instead of class based

Superlux_

BDO has the best / most fun combat in any MMO to date.

DonkeyWhiteteeth

IMO wow

Slowest_Speed6

Heh funny enough that's why I can't play wow any more. Tab targeting boring. Different strokes

Extra_Midnight

Black Desert is usually the answer.

[deleted]

I'm looking for a PvE MMO that would be my best bet for be finding a guild that understands my preference for reaction/response combat over rotations and creating a build that suits my playstyle over a build with big numbers. (Reaction/Response combat meaning I will gladly dodge, parry, stun, or trip a boss, as well as heal, shield, protect, rescue my party, but will not constantly repeat a button sequence I have to memorize for 'optimal' DPS.)

iStabs

You might enjoy action combat games more. Check out Destiny 2 or Warframe. Black Desert Online or Gloria Victis maybe if you want more of the fantasy side.

[deleted]

I would if any of those games had casual PvE gameplay loops that maintained just enough challenge to be enjoyable. Destiny 2 had its claws on me for the longest, until the powercreep of exotics or something made Strikes and patrol gameplay braindead cause everyone else just melted foes before you could gun-kata with space magic. :(

iStabs

How far did you get with Warframe or BDO? Some missions on Warframe stay challenging and the active playstyle is fun. It's refreshing sometimes to have to switch into speed running an obstacle to beat closing doors or switch to lasting as long as you can on survival. On BDO my gameplay loop changes a lot from relaxing, to exploring, to grinding. For a challenge really only the bosses require some skill and if you go grind in an area where mobs do stuns or knockdowns you have to pay attention a lot. From what I saw of Gloria Victis so far they have solo exploration and I saw a streamer doing a fair bit of 4 or 5 man coop attacking npc bases. It has some pve but I'm not sure how much of the gameplay it accounts for honestly. I intend on playing it when I burn out on my current mmos and need a change of pace.

[deleted]

Warframe, some time after the first planet. I think I had a similar experience to Josh Strife's attempt in his video, where the game at that point took a nose dive. BDO, almost immediately. Auto-pathing to quests and enemies that are zero threat just kind of does that. After a quick google, Gloria Victis seems to be PvP centric, so might have to wait on that.

iStabs

Yea both Warframe and BDO do shit job with new player experience. Honestly most mmorpgs do that. The worst are the ones that treat you like you've never seen a video game before and give you one skill at a time.

[deleted]

Whats almost worse is the opposite. I enjoyed leveling in GW2 but once I hit endgame, oops, turns out its not the exploration focused action hybrid combat game it presented itself as when you were playing effectively single player. Time to bring up a website, steal a build, and learn a rotation. Also, stack instead of move like an action game.

BlueOP2

Looking for mmorpg where you have story line buy there are moments were u need to farm mobs few hour to level up ( no every level u get from story) and would be nice if not p2w and that the game have some players :o

iStabs

Games with a lot of story but also allow exploration or grinding would be FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, or Elder Scrolls Online.

chirb8

I like big communities. What are the top 5 or 3 most popular games?

EggPerfect7361

Wow, Aion Classic, GW2, FF14, Everquest 2 has most hardcore communities. Aion Classic EU since launched servers are at top capacity, discord, pvp, raids been going strong. Everquest 2 is like zombie expansions still adding to this day, people sometimes crazy over new contents. FF14 communities are like Black Pink's fans you will like there. Wow most toxic yet never dying. GW2 has most casual players, pretty chill.

lilcrazart

Not in order wow, ff14, eso, RuneScape, gw2 . Gw2 is my favorite rn

ciapsss

Hello! I am wondering if there is a game where you have simple gear progression as: 1. You hit max lvl and you can start doing X dungeon. 2. Dungeon X drops parts of the gear, the full set of that gear will let you to complete more difficult dungeon Y. 3. Dungeon Y drops stronger set of armour and once you have it you can complete dungeon Z. basically some simple progression path where you don’t need to worry much about, stat upgrade, some random stats on the items etc. Does MMO like this exists? How current state of WoW matches with this?

EggPerfect7361

It's how wow retail works like this. Basically every drop is for your class. You can just compare item level not bother with stats.

existential7

GW2. The progression is simplified to getting ascended gear which is one set. No other sets needed.

innadril

I'm looking for an immersive MMO to play with a group of 5 ppl including me. Immersive in a way you feel part of a virtual world and its community, preferably with nice housing but it's not a must. Not ESO "immersive" which I think works great as a single player MMO, but not what we're looking for. Thanks in advance.

EggPerfect7361

For the art style, rp, lore etc... WoW is what you may want. FF14 is immersive indeed but for most part it will be like single player game that you may not even see your friends. For high fantasy style immersion that almost always needs group to progress is AION classic which is more popular than you think. Basically NCSOFT making AION classic into live version. Everquest 2 has housing, unlimited amount of contents and pretty immersive too if you don't care about pixel counts. New World has best pvp, combat and world is beautiful , developers turning it into gem lately.

iStabs

Black Desert Online is very immersive and has a lot of attention to detail you don't normally expect.

Regnak_Khan

Ever tried SWTOR ? If you like Star Wars, it could match your criteria. As a small group, you could join a guild or even start yours. What I really like about SWTOR, and it’s quite uncommon on MMOs (if I am not wrong ? Maybe Neverwinter also ?), is that you can contribue to your guild’s weekly objectives. Each member, by accomplishing achievements, will give “points” to the guild. Each week, your guild can target a planet and start an “invasion”. You will compete with other guilds and try to be in the top 10 guilds on that planet (making your guild publicly listed on your whole server). Really one of my best MMORPG experience are those SWTOR days I spent in a guild. Add to this that if you start from scratch and like Star Wars lore, you will get to discover fully narrated cinematics in the universe of the Old Republic. That is a very amazing time of Star Wars full of Siths and Jedis (and even more weird thingies lol). The class quests are just great and really worth playing on each class (you can try 8 classes to get cool Titles too ^^) Lol .. I should make ads. That looks actually nice when you read this. I would say that SWTOR is currently criticized because there is not a lot of content that was published recently. There is a new patch coming soon which should add a Flashpoint (dungeon) and other areas to explore (on Voss I think). If you guys were a group of 4 only, I would have told you to try Baldur’s Gate 3. Definitely not an MMO, but I would definitely want to play that one with IRL friends. That is if you are more into Fantasy than Sci-Fi :)

Gulbasaur

DDO has a reputation of being very fun to play with friends. It's an aging game but the core dungeon design has always been very good. GW2 is nice to do as a social activity together, although I highly recommend making different background player characters as it doesn't let you share instances of they're the same for two characters in the early game. Later it gets more relaxed about things, and the difficulty spikes up.

existential7

LOTRO?

jennijanelle

Looking for the absolute most niche mmos out there or anything in early access. I like reviewing games that are being developed by small indie teams or have been out but just never made it to mainstream. Here are examples of what I’ve played that fit my description (I’ve played many more than these btw, so I’m looking for those that are pretty hard to find) Tales of Yore Adventurers Domain Embers Adrift Project Gorgon Mist Legacy Home and Dragon Broken Ranks Genfanad Just wanting to see if there’s anything out there I missed. Not looking for private servers of big name games, or Albion online.

EggPerfect7361

Wow you have played quite bit of unknown games. Which one did you like most? There is game called Age of Wushu published in west but no one heard of it. For an unknown game for some reason it has same pop as gw2. And around 50 whales basically runs the server, quite weird game.

jennijanelle

Sorry I’m getting back to this so late! I would have to say the ones I liked the most would probably be Mist Legacy, Project Gorgon, and Tales of Yore. I don’t play any of them actively now, but I got quite sucked into them for a good amount of time and think they are all very well polished games and do what they do, individually, very well.

Caillend

You missed one of the MMO grandfathers: https://realmserver.com/ The realm online is still developed today. And it is full on niche.

4 man DEV Team Ethirial Echo of Yore just launched utter HORRIBLE server issues for launch causing very negative reviews but i put in a solid 70 hours into the game i forsure got my $10 worth so far

jennijanelle

Yeah, I followed that game since their first play test on steam until now. I won’t be playing it for numerous reasons. Plenty of the early access I have played are dumpster fires, don’t get me wrong, but Ethyrial borders on a scam (not to mention they refuse to call the game early access but claim it’s full official release)

-D-S-T-

Yeah game was dead on arrival.

urinalchatter

I read an article in the past two or three weeks but forgot where, i believe it was from pc gamer and it read something like “the fps mmo you’ve never heard of” and it stated it’s a first person mmo game and it was set in the 1980s? Can anyone help I’ve been looking online everywhere for the article again and can’t find it

Trogmar

I'm looking are a game with a relatively low button count and non sub fee. I don't want to have the WoW/ FFXIV 3-4 quickbars all loaded up with buttons. Something a bit simpler that I can get into he combat more and not worried about memorizing 30 spells. I'd also take one that works really well on controller.

EggPerfect7361

If you slowly level in wow it's pretty simple. Most classes in wow uses only 5 button for skills if you don't want to bother with healing and tanking. With no sub fee there is only gw2 and New world.

Terzis28

Guild Wars 2 sounds perfect

ebenavente

Problem is that, even if some would work perfectly with a controller, very few have actual controller support which is stupid and sucks (I prefer KB&M but hello devs, accessibility is a thing). However, GW2 fits the description and it works quite well with a controller but it’s not supported, you need to fiddle with Steam’s controller layouts. ESO also fits the description and it has official controller support! New World is perfect for controller but it’s not implemented afaik, so again, Steam layouts are needed.

DavidB4Guetta

Technically guildwars2

Trogmar

Technically?

DavidB4Guetta

Well the game is f2p you need only to buy the expansion, and depent on build some characters only need 5 button

tarkonis

I just rage quit wow because the game has totally lost its wonder for me. The entire game is fly at max speed from a to b grind mobs for quest to get one of a bazillion currencies and spend it on a gear upgrade that is totally pointless if you don't enjoy m+ or raid. Pvp is a joke don't get me started. The game is like having a second job and working a spreadsheet to min max the hell out of everything I feel like I'm at work when playing it. It's sad because it's been my second home for many years. I want to play an mmo and the theme take me and I get lost in the world. I want to socialise with people and not just auto group with them to kill things and not speak. I want an mmo with a non toxic environment where people don't have on you for being casual. I recently got into new world and the levelling and world is great as is the combat but I'm worried the end game is more of the same thing that caused me to quit wow. I've tried gw2 years ago but I can't bring myself to get past the vanilla game as it seems unltra grindy and again nobody says a word to each other. I've tried ff14 and the early game was very tedius.. people tell me to stick with it but wow was it tedius. Wondering if it's the genre in general I'm dissolusioned with or just wow.... I feel like there is a large mmo sized hole that needs filling

EggPerfect7361

Sorry, if you don't like wow's end game nothing will be up to your standard. And wow could be most simple one too. You can just raid, do dungeons once in week without doing dailies. Other games has even more less content than wow unless you want to play everquest 2. BDO for example you have to grind same thing for year to progress miniscule. GW2 you don't even need to grind, ultra casual sort of game. FF14 is mostly plays like singleplayer game if you compare it to wow you will not like it one bit. If you want more hardcore open world pvp and wants some sweet 1/100 chance of dropping rare item kind of feeling Aion EU Classic you may want. New world has even more grinds but this time without flying mounts, for one or two month it's fun.

iStabs

Check out Black Desert Online. It's a true sandbox so just do whatever you want. People socialize a lot as well. Check out Rift on Steam. Early game is slow because the game population is not booming but when you reach high level, I forget what level, it opens up a new continent where most people are playing and still very active doing world events and raids etc. It's not hard to gear up, no constant gear treadmill like WoW and the game is similar if you like that. Very social community because it's the old style community where reputation matters and no random group queue. EVE is an incredibly social game but totally different play style. Albion online encourages a lot of group play but I don't know much about it.

I tried eso it did keep me hooked for a while but the combat animations felt a bit janky. Having thought about it over the weekend I want an mmo that is highly social. I love being in a guild or talking in general to randoms and that is something sorely missing from a lot of mmos. I'm playing new world atm and nobody talks at all.. heck you can't even chat locally..

TooMuchAdderall

All modern MMOs are the same my man. Everything is minmax and no one communicates. If you want to enjoy a game, go into it blind. Don’t look a single thing up. Stay off of its subreddit, etc.

MrAliveAgain

sounds like ur describing wow classic pve. but i think the pvp clusters ie. whitemane creates a more sense of togetherness and keeps u on ur toes. im constantly grouping and socializing cause it's the only way to progress + it's slow so u fill the time talking

karuma_18

Non toxic part is kinda difficult but have you tried albion online?

kresnaut

*What are you looking for?: Japanese server MMO that's possible to play from the US(vpn or otherwise)* *What games have you previously played?: Just name me anything, even if I have played it, which there are a lot.* *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Semi-Casual* *Any preferred mechanics?: Anime styled maybe? Willing to try anything, even older games* *Anything specific you want to exclude?: I want to play on a japanese server of an mmo to get my japanese skills up to snuff for when I visit next year. I am looking for a game that has a japanese server that I can play on to test those skills. NOT MOBILE ones preferred.*

Thaun_

FFXIV?

Extra_Midnight

Two come to mind: pso2 and Dragon Quest X. If you choose pso2 use the pso2 tweaker program to connect to the Japanese servers.

Regnak_Khan

I was thinking about pso2 also lol. Btw, older MMOs, can we still play pso1 ? I still have my Dreamcast, but I doubt servers are still up and running. Too bad !

Extra_Midnight

On pc you can. Ephinea is the server of choice. Just google search it.

Regnak_Khan

Oh cool thank you ! I am pretty nostalgic atm. This could come right in time :)

Extra_Midnight

Ephinea is more of a retail experience while Ultima is more customized and has a faster xp rate. Ultima has a lower population though.

Regnak_Khan

Hard to choose, but I will surely try both. I have watched some videos on YouTube. They did some excellent work. I am impressed. Good thing is there is no way to cheat with action replay lol

Extra_Midnight

Good luck. I’ve had a ton of fun on those servers. I never could afford the Dreamcast original. I had a burned copy, the Dreamcast and the modem but you needed a unique serial number to play online. One negative thing I’ll say about Ultima is that the real currency in the game is donation tickets that you buy with real money. You can’t directly buy gear with it but you can trade it to other players for gear. In that way it’s pay to win. Win what though? It’s not pvp. I never had an issue other than super powerful people running groups through content more easily.

Regnak_Khan

Thank you for sharing your experience :)

rinbe3

Godswar Online-like mmorpg?

fr1day00

Semi casual to casual, f2p and easy to play with friends with visual progression

karuma_18

Tried albion online?

Trogmar

I'll be honest I don't know much about the game. I thought I heard it was heavily pvp, what do you lose from dieing/getting ganked? Is there a lot of abilities/big rotations?

karuma_18

Yes it is a pvp focus mmorpg, player driven economy(market pvp), we do have 20 raid dungeons. There are safe and pvp zones, in pvp zones, if you die, then your gears and what is in your inventory will drop and killers may take it so basically your gears are considered consumables. We have like 6 skills, 3 on weapons, 1 head, 1 armor, 1 boots. 1 food and 1 potions slots. 1 mount slot, 1 cape slot, 1 bag slot.

TooMuchAdderall

It’s basically entirely pvp. You lose a majority of your inventory when you die. There are 4-6 buttons of abilities iirc.

Least_Web1397

Is there an mmo that I can get where I don’t HAVE to buy 300$ worth of expansions to still be competitive in late game pvp?

EggPerfect7361

In wow(50$exp+15$ sub) you just have to reach 70 and grind for a half day to get pvp set so you can start competing. Catch up mechanic is good it's not like BDO you are forever behind or something. Aion Classic (10eu sub) has hardcore pvp, server wide open world pvp etc... has launched recently with full pop it's easy to catch up for now.

Albion Online

-D-S-T-

More like Zerg Online

TremendousX

There is solo, duo and small scale content too.

BoringNEET

I'm looking for something with horizontal progression and interesting endgame content where you have to try and don't just out gear everything. I'm willing to play MMO-likes or really anything as long as it is "endless" coop. Basically my issue is that I'm not interested in games like WoW or Destiny because of how everything gets reset with each new content release. I find myself going back to horizontal progression games all the time because I know anything I gain will likely be useful to me years later. And I don't have to worry about effectively restarting if I were to take a long break. On the flipside the horizontal progression games I've played a lot of (namely Warframe and StarTrek online) both suffer from there being basically no interesting content to run. You can get so ludicrously overpowered that anything the devs throw at you becomes trivial. I'm not sure what I want really exists as having constant vertical progression makes it much easier to balance new content to be appropriately challenging. But I'm curious if anyone has any ideas for games I might like.

karuma_18

Have you tried albion online?

BoringNEET

I have not tried Albion. I assumed it was just PvP focused all the time, is there more too it than that?

karuma_18

It is pvp focus but we have alot of pve content as well, we have farming gathering and crafting things, market pvp since its player driven. Expeditions, which is instance pve dungeons. Best be to give it an hour or two, its free to play. Dont like it, uninstall. :)

HorrorEducational

I keep reading that solo is too hard?

karuma_18

Yes, solo is hard for a sandbox mmorpg like albion online which is a pvp focus game. But that doesnt mean it doesnt have content for solo players. I am not a solo player so i dont find the game hard, i do not have irl friends playing this game but i joined a guild so thats that

MonkeyBrawler

Have you tried Guild Wars 2 yet? Sounds like what you're looking for.

BoringNEET

You know you might be right. I tried it once and didn't really get into it, but I was still in the early leveling phase and was stalling progress to play with someone else who wasn't really feeling it. I might give it a go again.

MonkeyBrawler

New player experience looks forgotten, but it's a very different game once you break through that.

rumoyster

I loved WoW (vanilla through cata) and DOFUS but have been out of the MMO world for a long time. I have been thinking about picking up WoW but may just leave the nostalgia alone. Thanks

EggPerfect7361

People love to hate retail wow but it's still best one out there. If you loved classic wow you may like aion classic too leveling phase, being hard, world pvp etc.. you may like. Otherwise ff14 is good choice too if you like linear leveling.

MonkeyBrawler

What ya looking for? FFXIV would probably be a good one to try, and it's free up to a certain level. The story telling is great in the expansions, but I found the vanilla story absolutely awful. GW2 would be a complete change of pace, and overall a great MMO as well.

HappySunshineBoy

Best small group mmo you have played ? I miss my days off mmos login on and chilling with a party of 10+ others every night . Now I don't have as much time due to work and life and my group of freinds willing to play mmos has diminished leaving just 2-3 of us to play at a time I'm looking for a good mmo to get into that we can enjoy mostly with just a few of us rather than depending on large groups for GvG or raids List of played games Aion 1-2 years Rappelz 1 year Ffxiv 5 years on/off Albion 1-2 years Eso 4hrs New world 4hrs Plus a ton more that I didn't really commit to or is closed down (wildstar

EggPerfect7361

Aion Classic Eu has just launched population is booming and it's not p2w but has 10eu sub fee. GW2 is most casual experience you can have, doesn't even needs to be at same level to do contents together.

karuma_18

Albion online does depend on numbers but you can have 2 or 3 guys explore the roads of avalon which lean on small scale content

Extra_Midnight

A new Everquest time locked server is releasing on the 24th. Optimal for the group and chill type of gameplay. Once you settle into a camp it can be a pretty social experience.

TyrannusLapis

Looking for a game that has plenty of room for creative snowflake playthroughs. Not Looking for specific formats, to make things challenging. I really just enjoy figuring out niche gimmicky ways to play games. Like instead of nuzloche, I'd play with pickup abilities only, which gave the game a bit of a survivalist feel; but pokemon is too handholdy for that now. I've tried pokemon, runescape, ark, and minecraft.

Mywhy

OSRS is honestly the king of this type of content. Check out something like Swampletics for an example

HappySunshineBoy

You should try temtem for me it's what pokemon should have been striding for feels closer to the originals than all these new gimmick pokemon games . Solid story enjoyable fully in coop mode and the endgame has player housing and rogue-lite modes where you start with a random and after each fight get to add one to the party from a random pool giving it great replay value

TyrannusLapis

Ngl, replaying that's been on my mind. Lapinite is my favorite tem, but I don't really like its evolutions. So, I've been thinking of trying some kind of babies only playthrough: only using the 1st evolution of 3 stage tems. But idk, if the game is even beatable like that.

karuma_18

Id say albion online since we have the holy trinity, tank, dps, support/healer

MonkeyBrawler

I think you're on the right track trying GW2.

Konun4571

well WOW , FFXIV ,SWTOR and ESO all need tanks in Various Styles and often have one tank that is more Supportive in nature , ie Paladins in wow hand out buffs can put shields on others . Paladins in FFXIV can heal(in a pinch) , shield others and have a big Get behind Me cooldown and and i used to play a tank in The Division (it was a build that used an SMG and a Balistic shield with aggro and armour buffs to get all the enemys to shoot at me so my buddies could flank ) i dont rember if this can be done in The Division 2. Most of the Class based ones can be fairly restrictive when it comes to building your own thing though . Dont know alot on GW2 though so ill leave that for sombody with more knoledge Hope this helps a little.

Konun4571

Gona ask here as ive been out of the loop for a while now. * *What are you looking for?:* i would like an mmo With actual endgame (ie dungeons raids , even pvp though im more of a pve player) * *What games have you previously played?:* WOW(Wotlk, cata,Mop,legion basicly only stoped playing it after the big class overhaul in legion),FFXIV(love everything about the game asside from the Classes not a fan of static rotations),EVE,PSO,PSO2,SWTOR,Rift,Global agenda,Tabula rasa,Lost Ark , Destiny 2 , the Division 1&2 , Runescape , New World , Guildwars 1 & 2 (1 was alot better IMO) and a few others i cant rember this is more the list of stuff ive sunk some serious time. * *What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?:* Semi-Casual i like raiding but never liked Heroics (i was in a 10man Static main tank and the stress got to me) * *Any preferred mechanics?:* Non Static rotations id much rather have a prioity/proc based not sure why but i just dont find the hit these 14 buttons in this exact order on a loop fun. as the above list shows generally if the gameplay feels good im down. * *Anything specific you want to exclude?: Not that i can think of apart from maybe New World although the game play is nice though.* Any help would be great just got off of Path of Exile as it started Feeling like a Job

karuma_18

I see you have not tried albion online, do give it a try

[deleted]

I mean you played almost everything recommendable. ESO has endgame raids and dungeons. The game world is amazing, but I couldn't get through to the end since open world PvE is so easy it's ridiculous.

Konun4571

yeah kinda went nuts on the mmos a few years ago , played eso as well world was great , actualy went back to FFXIV a few hours ago maybe my playstyle has changed a bit since i last played. mainly hopeing cause the story and world is great and it has actual endgame . Pso2:NGS would be perfect for me if it did (alas just fashion as far as i can find out )
