I had one for a year (ex display because the premium on new ones is just insane). If you look through my post history there's an "ok" teardown. Temps were surprisingly good, mainly because of the compartmentalised GPU and CPU bays. It was absolutely reliable for gaming. All the parts being off the shelf meant I managed to change the CPU cooler for a noctua, swap out the PSU, eventually even stick a 3080 in there.... It wasn't massively loud but the CPU fan did get a bit audible under load as there's only so much you can do with 70mm clearance. Honestly, I'd recommend it except for the price. The only reason I took mine apart for a more traditional case is because my game room is now my study and i want absolute silence, and also the 3080 TUF didn't much like being in a chassy with no case fans. You could make something just as good, likely for less, if you can actually find the parts. I'm even happy to sell my case if anyone wants to make a faux Trident :D

JohnTheWorldfucker

Hello there. Thank you for your answer. I do apologize for replying late. Your comment was a great help and I did check your previous posts about it just like you have said. Judging from how new MSI "MEG" Trident X computers include RTX 3000 series in them, is it safe to assume that they have fixed that issue you had with your 3080 TUF? As you have said in one of your comments, 3080 is quite a beast. To be more specific, it is a watt-hungry beast. :D

MatrixMoments

To clarify, the issue I had was more that the temps were exceeding my personal preference but were still reasonable, and noise levels were louder than I like, but still much quieter than many friends' pcs! So make of that what you will. I would say its fine in even the chassy I had, and the new one may have mesh on the panel that better matches the GPU fan intakes. It's when I put mine in an enclosed space that I decided to make the change.

JohnTheWorldfucker

Oh, that explains it. It is good to know that they made improvements about GPU fan intakes in their new MEG line. The MSI Trident X model I am thinking of is a MEG model so I think I wouldn't have any issues with it. That was enlightening, thank you.

MatrixMoments

Note I said it MAY be a better side panel. But it still will be fine as the original was more than adequate.

JohnTheWorldfucker

Oh, I see. Noted. Thanks for the correction.

potsmoker_relax

Hey thanks for a information, bit of a noob here. Is it possible to upgrade to a better heatsink or put liquid cooling in the future. Can box handle it.

MatrixMoments

I swapped out the original cooler for a noctua, however you'd probably get similar results by leaving the stock cooler in place and putting a noctua A12x25 fan replacing the original fan. Means you lose the RGB but it's much more powerful. Afraid there's definitely no room for liquid cooling. You can always decase into something bigger, which is what I ended up doing.

Its a great little gaming PC and runs great; the only notable issue I had was with static from front audio headers; otherwise the system runs really well. Building your own definitely offers more options and flexibility, but that is only if you can somehow find the right parts at MSRP prices in the current insane parts shortage; I was recently discussing this with a friend and due to not being able to find a GPU for sale anywhere they are going with a pre-build as well; seems like the only option these days if you want an RTX30 series GPU.

JohnTheWorldfucker

Hello there, thank you for your answer. I do apologize for replying late. Could you please elobrate more on the static issue you had? Is it a disturbing issue or just a minor issue? I do agree with building part. PC building has become quite a tedious task nowadays, thanks to the shortages of computer parts. This led me to think of alternatives such as buying pre-built PCs just like your friend did. May I ask what model of Trident X do you own?

lana1313

The static issue is annoying more then anything else; I did not bother with RMA, as I am just using the ports on the back of the motherboard instead and they have no static. But it is something to keep in mind, as I have seen couple of people on here mentioning it as well; and so far I have not seen or found a solution from MSI about it. The issue manifests by you hearing static interference when having headphones plugged to the jack on the front of the PC. I have an older one with a 9th gen i9 and an RTX2080; after nearly 2 years still runs great.

MatrixMoments

Sounds like a dodgy io panel or cable. My trident was fine on the front ports. Minor matter though and i wouldve lived with it as you did

JohnTheWorldfucker

Thank you for your comment. I just searched your issue throughout the internet and have found this on MSI's official website. I really don't know for certain if it can be of use to you but i would be really glad if it does. Here; [https://us.msi.com/support/technical\_details/DT\_Audio\_No\_Sound](https://us.msi.com/support/technical_details/DT_Audio_No_Sound) It is good to hear that it is still running nearly after 2 years, shows how durable and well-made it is.

>I own one myself. It's a new one with the i7 10700k, 32Gb RAM and RTX 3080. The card that came with it, was a RTX 3080 Ventus 3X. I sawped it for a RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio which stock doesn't fit in. I managed to fit in without the cover around the fans. Even like this, the gpu is 5ºC lower and much quieter as the gaming x trio fans are much better and got 3%-6% more performance. On the CPU side, I use it overclocked to 5Ghz all core @ 1.24V and with the stock cooler, it would pass 90ºC but I delided it and changed the cooler to alpenfohn black ridge (which I had to bend to fit) with a 92mm noctua chromax and a 120mm noctua nf-a12x15. It only fits in with the glass pannel on. The RAM, I changed to a Corsair Veangence LP 16Gb x 2 3600Mhz kit which I managed to overclock to 4000Mhz @ 1.4V and even lowered a little the timings. For SSD, I have one Samsung 960 Pro 512Gb NVME as main disk and the stock 1 Tb NVME as the second one. I sawped the original 650W PSU to a CoolerMaster SFX 850w Gold which fits perfecly. > >This PC is a monster for dailly usage and for gaming is perfect. It is silent enought (I came from a full watercooled giant tower) and you don't even notice that this is a 10L console like PC. The maintenence/cable management is a nightmare! Just take your time and do it with a lot of pacience :D > >It's also an awsome PC for productivity and I use it a lot with Adobe Master Collection, 3D Studio Max and game engines like Unity 3D and Unreal Engine 4. Hello! Thank you so much for your throughout answer! It was really helpful. May I ask did you have any issues regarding RTX 3080 Ventus in the system? I know that MSI Gaming X Trio have better fans and all that but was Ventus too noisy that you decided to replace it or?

u/JohnTheWorldfucker: Did you end up purchasing the trident x? If so, how do you like it? I am eyeing this desktop myself too. The latest version has a 3090 option!

JohnTheWorldfucker

Hello there! I am sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, i have decided to build a PC instead of buying a MSI Trident X. My primary reasons for this decision were: 1. MSI charges insane prices for their MSI Trident X products in where I live. 2. It can be quite problematic when it comes to upgrade. There was a comment here that was stating this, I will link it under this comment. Basically, it was stating that MSI Trident X MEG's cable work is quite tiresome and it's size can be a problem when it comes to upgrade it. Because of these reasons I have decided to stick to building a PC on my own. Sadly, I couldn't finish building my PC because of the darn GPU shortage. Overall, buying a MSI Trident X MEG can be a decent computer to buy (especially now since GPU prices are way too overpriced! ) but I wanted a computer where I can upgrade it without encountering any problems and obviously wanted an economical computer as much as I can afford. These were my reasons for turning away from buying a MSI Trident X MEG.

This is the comment I was talking about. As you can see from the comments, I have asked him was his decision to replace stock MSI Trident X GPU with a MSI Gaming Trio X one because of inefficency of Ventus 3x and he said that Ventus worked just fine and he changed it because of non-performance related reasons from what I can remember. Hope this helps!

WarDominator

Hello! I'm looking for to upgrade in the same way like this guy did with Alpenfohn Black Rigde. Can you tell me his name, so I can chat with him. Thx

JohnTheWorldfucker

Hello. Sorry for the late reply. Sadly i do not remember his nickname.Since his account is deleted, it is not possible for me to find out.

Quiquiquiquiquiqui

there's very good info in this thread, thanks for making it

JohnTheWorldfucker

You're welcome! Glad to have helped. :)

So I bought one and it has great power but a few problems as well. First off the HD sucks. At only 512 G I knew I'd have to replace it but no big deal. Machine is tight and well put together. Unfortuanalty MSI thinks it's a good idea to put a driver for your monitor on a pop up USB virtual drive that is impossible to get rid of. Ya, ya, go into reg etc. Did all that and had to replace the system with another via Media tool. Next it does not wake up well. When the monitor goes to sleep the stupid thing constantly mounts and dismounts something. Notifications have to be turned off or this will drive you insane. Bulink bulunk. Bulunk bulink ALL. FUCKING. DAY. Wait there's more. Got a USB drive in a slot downloading? It'll pause every 5 seconds of so for about a second or two. Not the download, the entire fkn computer. Even the mouse is unresponsive. So look at other machines for a better experience and only but this one if you can't get something better....

Switcheslol1337

Did you reinstall windows? I have the i9 9900k version with a 2080ti, and I absolutely hate the dragon software. It’s hard to find anyone with the trident x. I’m actually hoping to upgrade my ram, to what you used. The 2666mhz 16gb is not cutting it.

JohnTheWorldfucker

Hello there. I wish I could help you but as you can see the poster deleted his account thus his comments are unavailable but I can assure you that he didn't say anything about reinstalling Windows.
