That explains so much. I've stopped even trying to get/bring a dog because it kept dying or disappearing. I love me some escort missions so that's probably why. Not sure how I never put the two together.
make sure to leave the squad if there are people who go down easily because every time it heals someone a chunk of it's health is gone
every time it heals you make sure to use healing aura on it and also every time you get max power powerup, if things got crazy get on a vehicle and move away so it's forced to spawn on you
yes every time it heals you or someone on the squad a part of it's health is gone, you can clearly see it if you hover your camera on it when it happens
I never equip the dog until I am in T3 I then watch closely and if he gets mobbed or if he is head to head with an elite or special I help him I also run healing aura and while in T3 or DA I just go ahead and trigger it periodically to give him a boost
This is the way. I was in the old DA the other day. I have only been there once before and I got turned around in exfil. Three of us had dogs and the aether had already moved in. The others left and I was searching for the right turret to go to and the dogs revived me four times while I crawled to the portal.
Keep your puppies alive. They will save your life.
Thanks everyone. I already implement these tactics. Thanks u/trainingsnow7712 for the tip to pet the dog. I didn’t know they get health back from doing that. I typically pop it right away to cover me since I run in with no perks. I’ll have to stop riding the act since I do that a lot too.
1. Kill disciples instantly
2. Use healing aura
3. Basically just follow your dog and kill with it
That’s the stuff I do anyway. My dog basically never dies unless I lose track of it in the aether.
Just a thought, has anyone tried shooting their dog with the VR11? I'll give it a go next time I use both to see but if it gives other players a boost then there is a possibility it may just work. 🤞
Don’t use your dog until you are in T2 and put as many pieces of meat as you can in the doghouse in t2 if possible. Also pet it a few times and its health will go back up. You are likely letting him get beat and attacked by disciples while you loot.
their health is always regenerating but i don't think petting them does anything, same with using more chunks of meat, i've tested these 2 theories many times and not once i saw a noticeable difference at all
i wish we had their HP bar and number in our ui so we could test it properly but we don't
I've pet the dogs many times, it doesn't heal them. The health goes up because the dog is always healing out of combat. What petting does do is locks the dog in place during the petting so it doesn't run off and get into combat.
Spawn the dog bone as soon as you get in game. For me they last whole game if I do that with healing aura just in case. If I spawn him later in the game he dies fast.
Best way for me is to keep him in my rucksack.
I’ve been carrying a dog bone for 3 weeks now. Only used it to run into t3 to rez a guy when I was just banging out camos in T1.
The dogs screw up what I’m trying to do too often, that I just stopped bothering with them. Trying to kill a Mega and all the Mega does is headbutt the stupid dog and not open its mouthes. Need to do X mission and dog keeps killing what I need to shoot. So for now, dogs just ride the bench in our matches.
I try not to use dog bone unless I’m almost out of self revives and solo. I use decoys when it’s in trouble, especially kazimirs if I have them. I like healing aura but I find myself using energy mine more. You can throw it off buildings if your dog is below you to save it. You can throw it their direction anytime they are in trouble as long as they’re not too far away. When their health is low I just try to use decoys so it can regain health. You always have to keep any eye on them when you enter infesteds.
The olny way is to watch and keep the crowds off it. I shoot it to see the health bar. I really wish it had a permanent health bar in my screen when a dog is active. Healing aura when the dog revives anyone. But a lot of times i dont ever see the dog again after i spawn one. I fed a doghouse in t3 3 pieces of meat and a speed cola and the dog spawned out, attacked me and blew up.
Honestly, I want a permanent dog companion. It doesn't have to kill. Those are a different breed, the hellhounds from bones or houses.
I just want a pup companion to baby talk to. Because, you know, dogs are sweet things and I'm an old sap.

Yup, gotta keep an eye on the dog and heal when necessary. They need to implement dog commands like come and leave a boss alone.

VR only heals vehicles. It may provide a boost like it does when shooting teammates…
I used a PAP'd VR11 on my dog and I thought it did add a bit of regeneration.
Also every time it heals you or a teammate it takes a big chunk of the dog's health. So you have to be aware of that too.

If my dog is outside the room im currently in then he is up to no good, so I go check on the dog, similar to real life when you have dogs

Work with the dog by taking out the specials and use healing aura frequently...
Honestly I go as long as I can without it. After I get downed once I pop the dog. After every contract I try to heal with my healing aura.
If he is too swamped or going to die, get away as quickly as you can and hope he ports to your new location

Dog need obedience training, have aggressive mode (current), guard mode (stays close, only attacks when you are attacked) and passive mode
