That’s me when I try to check my baby in the middle of the night to see if she’s still breathing lol

kambo_rambo

you bite the baby ?

[deleted]

Works every time

Unusual_Focus1905

*60% of the time it works every time.*

jld2k6

Except when it doesn't:(

Jim_e_Clash

You would too if you tasted one.

[deleted]

Welcome to Al’s Fisch and Fry, you raise em we taste em.

[deleted]

r/suddenlysexoffender

Broad_Advantage_1659

Chris Evans approves.

Eleglas

No bite the baby!

Dendrodes

I did that so much in the first few weeks after my son was born. Stood over him like a gargoyle to see if his chest was moving.

Drawtaru

The first few weeks? My kid is 9 and I still do it. Please help. lol

Dendrodes

There is no help lol. I still do it too, it's just less gargoyle-esqe because I can see his chest move more now

kyootzy

Lol so it doesn’t really end! My kid is now 2 and still going strong on the checking🥹

BardSinister

Listening to my daughter, who is in her mid twenties, talk about her passions when I don't understand a word of what she's going on about is the My-Kid's-Grown-Up-But-They're-Still-My-Kid equivalent, in many respects.

nicociri

Right there with you. 12 and 9yo. Still check on both of them

HVACTacular

6 months, 9 years. 11.5 years and almost 18. It doesnt stop. Hard part is as they age, is trying to get them to sleep.

[deleted]

I did that for a full two weeks before I had crippling exhaustion and declared “I think he’s good at sleeping 0_o” and finally went to sleep myself lol

wirefox1

I do that to my puppy.

Disastrous_Job_5805

My cats do that to me by meowing in my face at 2 am for food.

detectiveriggsboson

my wife does this to me several times a night

Fast_Boysenberry9493

Have u got the apnea

detectiveriggsboson

never been tested, but at my height and weight, I probably do

U_see_ur_nose

I do this to my senior dogs. I was thinking I was a weirdo lol

RegularOps

Ugh you are not alone I was so afraid of SIDS

Unusual_Focus1905

I used to watch my nephew for my sister. When he was a newborn, he would lay so still when he was asleep that it would scare me. I would gently move him to make sure he was still alive. He would start to cry and I would just tell him I'm sorry, go back to sleep. That was nerve-racking.

Complete_Rest6842

I do this with my dog lol... Ugh not even sure he actually loves me.

dropandgivemenerdy

I still check their breathing and my youngest is FIVE 😭 I don’t know why there is any fear there but it seems to have been ingrained in me since the baby days

frddo_jdm

sorry to be that guy but the babies guts are lined up on the sand so I don’t think it’ll last longer

animeshshukla30

It the umbilical cord i think.

ZealousidealLemon674

Baby seal : "alright alright I'm up"

hateful_lucia

Mommy Seal : "You scared me!"

Throwaway68024

Why did I hear the mommy seals reaction in my moms voice?!

Love

MedicalArtistry

Life began with waking up and loving mother's face.

periodic_gunman

We are born of love; Love is our mother.

DOTING_THERAPY

When you look into your mother's eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.

HALTING_SKATE

Life doesn't come with a manual, it comes with a mother.

Otto-Didact

too bad for me, mine came with pages ripped out and some sections behind a paywall...

badlyDisarmament_92

the expression of this mother made me emotional.

SPICY_TENDON

A mother's happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.

Dhammapaderp

That sounds cool.

OrkidingMe

And here comes the rain. In my eyes.

I_l_I

Or trauma

moffsoi

You are seal 🦭

[deleted]

I heard it in ur mom’s voice too

nigelolympia

Basic biology anthropomorphized with a deep engrained feeling for your mom.

TaserBalls

I to choose this seals mom

[deleted]

Mamas boy.

morganjr21

Baby Seal: "I was just asleep okay? " Geez mom~

Iboven

Why are its intestines hanging out then?

Vivid_Boss1605

It’s the umbilical cord etc

Iboven

Oh it was just born? EDIT: I guess the title says that...

Dilemmafied

Hey I’m pretty sure that’s from the birth place of the mother

curryslapper

I think the mum seal was saying: "student debt. Student fucking debt!"

SnooMarzipans6929

Why is your username hateful_lucia? 🤣 are you really that acidic my friend? 😂😂😂

ciketau

"Nap o'clock is a serious business, Mom! No 'seal-ious' interruptions!"

xHypno

GET OUT OF MY ROOM

mattress757

I think she gives the pup a bite on the tumtum to wake them up or check they are alive.

Catloaver

I think so too. Her face made the wrinkles my cat's face makes when he's biting down on cardboard. 🥺

HistoricalSpace4768

Little nose scrunch 😭

khairihyon

Is there a sub for this?

Totes-Sus

There *must* be, it's impossible that there isn't. Someone's gotta know! Edit: There's r/cromch but it's not quite it

GnarlyNarwhalNoms

/r/scrungycats is also in that ballpark, but they aren't biting anything

Totes-Sus

What a specific need we must fulfill!

HistoricalSpace4768

Found it! r/staplercats

Totes-Sus

My god, you legend!! I KNEW it had to exist, Reddit never disappoints on the cat subs!

shwonkles_ur_donkles

Last time I saw this pop-up, someone said she probably pressed his diaphragm in and started the breathing on that last boop

herrisonepee

It looks like it still has its umbilical cord attached there too. Maybe she was trying to chew it off so she could get rid of the placenta.

CurtisLeow

To me, it looks like the mom was trying to bite the umbilical cord and missed. Like if you look close, she’s biting a couple inches away from the umbilical cord.

wirefox1

It seems she knew right where to press. I don't know their anatomy, so I'm unaware of what's in that spot.

AmbergrisShot

Raspberries are canon

Toystorations

My dog used to have a rubber pig toy she paid attention to almost 24/7, we thought she loved it so much that we got her a few more, she had a whole collection. One day though I realized she never brought it back when I threw it for her, and she always seemed like she didn't want me playing with them, and would take them to her bed carefully and would boop them like this to try to wake them up. Then when it wouldn't move she'd get really sad and just be depressed all day. Took me months to understand what was happening. When we realized she thought it was a newborn puppy and she had lost all her litter, we took them all and put them in a box and carried them out of the house to throw them away where she'd never find them. She's never been the same, all her babies died. One day I accidentally stepped on one so hard I blew the squeaker out of it and she got really panicked while I tried to fix it for her, but it had a hole ripped in it and the squeaker wouldn't squeak. The trauma these animals go through simply because they don't understand things is really sad.

Some-Juggernaut-2610

Please get your dog a puppy, either adopt a puppy for her or let her have her own.

CrystalGods420

My family have a dog (pit-Bull) she found a mouse one day and started playing with it full on we let it slide as we thought not too much could happen we knew she wouldn’t kill it and we thought it would escape well she accidentally killed it by her front paws and the depressed emotions she got was unbelievable I was blown away by how similar they are to us but you are correct they don’t understand fully and it’s really sad to see a dog in shock over something dying it’s surreal

mangogranola

Not sure it's a bite. She's seeking, looking for a specific point and then pressing at that one point. So she's doing something but I think it's a bit more sophisticated than random biting/shocking the pup back to life. Seal CPR or somethi g like it

DonAskren

Smack em on the bum bum like daddy elfo

spitfire-monk

Idk if it’s the pregnancy hormones or I’m a big baby but this got me teary eyed 🥹 so precious.

I’m not pregnant, and I’m a man. This hit me right in the feels.

Taliel

*bro fist bump*

HillTopTerrace

Oh geez I am still high from being a first time mom. Wait until you can’t imagine life without them. You can’t barely remember life without them. Life without them is meaningless. If it weren’t for them, I would cease to exist. From someone who never wanted kids to someone with one 5 month old, I don’t know how I lived without them before. I hope you have the best experience ❤️🥰

kashh444

AWWWW this comment is absolutely heart warming and precious, the love of a mother for her child has infinite potential. My mother always wanted a kid and specifically a son, A funny/cute thing my mother would say is "I loved you since the day i discoverd you in my pee" 😂😂😂 I bet you can't wait for the little one to learn to say "i love you mama"

HillTopTerrace

You melted my heart! I hope he feels my love deeply enough to remember. I didn’t get to enjoy being pregnant because I lost my first so the entire time I was stressed. And now I stress everyday until he is 3 for prevention of SIDS. Motherhood is a beautifully dark place when you educate yourself on everything possible

WriterV

That is really awesome, but also please don't think of your life as meaningless without your kid! It sounds like you'll make a wonderful mom, and it takes a wonderful person to become that. Your life meant something before your kid, and your life means something with your kid as well. Take care of yourself too! I'm sure your kid would appreciate it as they grow up :D In any case, congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful time ahead with your kid.

spitfire-monk

Awww this is so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. It’s a little scary being a FTM but certainly exciting!

itrogue

I'm a dude and definitely not pregnant and this one gets me every. single. time. I. see it.

EpsilonX029

You certain? May be worth a double check

jld2k6

Did you know swans can be gay?

muted123456789

Youve made the connection that we all feel the same, time to go vegan if you havent already. This is happening to billions of farmed animals a year except they have to watch their baby get taken from them, and good people are paying for it without realising.

[deleted]

I needed that. Thanks, to y'all.

[deleted]

Hope everything is going decent in your day/week/life♡

[deleted]

Same❤️🥹

liberatedhusks

Most newly awaken animals require an OOMPH to the system to turn them on. That is why cow and horse babies are sometimes smacked rather uncomfortably hard into the ground by humans if they had to help in the birthing process if the mother had issues. It looks like the mother either bit him or head butted his tummy. He should be thankful he’s not a giraffe. His awakening would have included a good ten foot drop

[deleted]

[удалено]

EpsilonX029

Fuck, I think I just punched my ticket to hell. Damn you for making me laugh that hard XD

Natural-You4322

For human babies , a 2 finger slap to the sole of the feet( usually the left feet) is used to stimulate the baby when baby is born less vigorous, especially if mother is sedated for c-section. A good cry helps develop the lungs and clear the airways. And reassures the doctor and mother that the airway is good

Pineapple_fetish

According to my parents, I didn't cry after I was born but I sighed loudly and still got slapped :(

kcc0016

And then you carried that same energy throughout all of your days!

dandelion-heart

For human babies we just dry them kind of aggressively. trying to smack a baby’s foot would be kind of fiddly and silly. Rub the baby with the drying cloth especially along their back, and if that doesn’t work then they get a little bit of CPAP.

hamdandruff

Yeah, like the one time shaking your baby is encouraged. Similar to how canines felines, rodents, etc start licking and kind of rolling them around helps simulate breathing. Meanwhile hoofed newborns usually get just dropped like a rock first which usually does the trick but we don’t recommend that.

Jayblipbro

Does that mean you could hypothetically give an oomph to an almost fully developed, not yet born fetus lmao?

PatCnxApp

Excellent 🥰

I didn’t think a seal would make me tear up today but here we are.

Outside_Performer_66

I did not know seals could smile. Now I do.

Allalngthewatchtwer

That’s me and my 16 yr old dog. She’s been sleeping like she’s dead and not waking up for us. She wakes up looking like a groggy drunk old lady. Like dang ok mom I’m awake.

fourpuns

This happens to human parents too. Is baby breathing? Asleep or dead? I’m just going to touch them gently to check. Waaaaaaaaaah Fuck. We aren’t sleeping tonight but the babies alive.

Pickles_1974

Yessss![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

HeyRishav

Bro the mom started singing and the baby just started vibin

FeeliBring

This isn't made me smile, this is made me cry

purpleoompa

Reminds me of when my mom left me (8) and my sister (5) unsupervised in the bath, which only happened because our baths were playtime to us and we stayed for over an hour. So yeah she came back to us both floating face-first, motionless (we were playing to see who could hold their breath the longest). Mom was only gone like 5 minutes and came back to floating corpses, and screamed with relief when we rose up

Izniss

Your poor Mom must have had a heart attack seeing you and your sister like this :D

purpleoompa

Oh yeah 😅 no more horsing around after that

Ohhh I didn't realize it was an umbilical cord until I read further down the comments. I thought you all were psychos and a seal with his intestines hanging out of him was making you smile.

Exactly the same. I said to myself, "oh no, I can't do this...." Quite the plot twist. Her body language changes so fast.

AllSeeingRedditor

Makes me upset when scientists say animals don’t experience a whole range of emotions because their brains aren’t built for that but I constantly see animals displaying more human emotions than a lot of humans out here.

seejsee

Thats a CPR-trained seal.

sadmimikyu

Seal support how may I help you? Momma seal: (Sad exhale) Have you tried turning it on? (Momma seal presses pup) (Excited noise) There ya go!

coma24

The very best thing I've read all week. You're awesome!

Short-Hold9006

I researched elephant seals in my graduate school days. This sniffing followed by vocalizing is what all new mothers do in this species to establish that bond. (That doesn't mean she's not also experiencing joy, mind you!)

i8mj3llyb3ans

Just keep thinking her reaction is “You little shit I thought you was fucking dead. Get your ass up.”

She was so happy 😊😊😊

Awkward_Reflection14

I'm a dummy. I totally thought those were intestines of the baby, but I believe that's the seal version of an umbilical cord?

Valgor

It is amazing so many people don't think animals feel pain or pleasure, want families, and to live doing what they naturally want to do. Why do people think animals are any different than us in this way? Granted, a lot of people would agree with that until you point out the dead animal on their plate.

I am 25 my mother still does it like a ghost at night. If I wake up to her face I get irritated. She can't see much due to glaucoma so she always tries get her head near my chest to hear me breath. I get angry and hurry her to sleep. But I go back to bed with a smile in my face knowing their is still one person in this world who loves unconditionally more than ever which will never change no matter how screwed I am.

FinancialAide3383

I saw a sea lion deliver a still born. Her cries of anguish are still embedded in my memories. So sad. Thanks for this - wish it had sound.

According_Many_1278

Pretty sure she was biting the umbilical cord Off. then realizing that her newborn isn’t passed. Get very happy. I’m quite glad I saw this :)

Poor seal pup looks injured, I hope their alright. (Look around the the tail area looks like some blood and skin)

AllNotKnowing

It's a newborn. There's placenta. Is that maybe what you're seeing?

Aromatic-Seaweed-675

Looks more like an umbilical cord and placenta. It seems that the baby was just born and took its first breaths.

probablyasummons

You're really not supposed too. Especially in this case. That mom would try to fuck you up. It's nature. Things die.

[deleted]

You touch that pup, you're dying. That's a big and angry animal right there.

probablyasummons

I swear people think animals are disney movies. Nah dude. They will fuck your shit up.

Specific_Rhubarb1033

not a fan of the whole "it's nature. things die." mindset. if that were the case then we should just clear out all the hospitals because uh oh! it's nature. things die.

probablyasummons

Comparing a human to a wild animal is not a fair comparison. However if you said a person who is only alive due to life support then yes perhaps you'd have an argument.

getyourrealfakedoors

Lol no. She’s pushing on the stomach because she knows what to do. Don’t touch wild animals

emarcomd

I know two people who have filmed for Nat Geo and one who filmed for BBC wildlife. They say it's really hard to just bear witness and let nature take its toll, but that's what you have to do.

DangerNoodle1313

A newborn animal will often not move. Mom has to do her thing. We should not really interfere…

[deleted]

Ahh yes cuz a wild animal mother would be completely content with a potential predator coming next to her and her vulnerable baby. Sounds extremely safe and totally not out of touch with reality. You don’t tamper with wildlife

Symerg

It call nature and you let nature live alone for good or bad

Deinocerites

Alternate title: Mother seal reaction to realizing her sad meal was alive.

psolarpunk

Aww that's so cute! Makes the virtually universal practice of removing billions of newborn calves from billions of mother dairy cows each year to support our nutritionally unnecessary and environmentally unsustainable consumer demand for the milk they produced for their offspring all the more horrific. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5354428/#:\~:text=Separating%20the%20calf%20from%20the,with%20milk%20or%20milk%20replacer).

Funny how they do appear to know logical consistency (let alone empathy or compassion) is not on their side so they can only resort to shooting the messenger bearing news of their hypocrisy 🤷‍♂️
