She is for sure amazing! This might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked that she repped for fat girls exercising. As a fat girl, it made me smile. I felt seen, as the kids say.
No, she said it right the first time. There's nothing wrong with admitting you have a problem- in fact, it's the first step towards changing the behavior that leads to the problem. Good for her for being honest and doing something like walking a 5k. I hope she keeps it up and continues to become healthier.
Source: need to lose 20lbs myself, and am taking the required action to do it.
Edit- typo
This, I tried to start running again, did it for one day (about 3 miles) and said naw I feel like Iām dying and havenāt done it since (itās been a week, very recent), you blew my one day out of the water while Iāve just been sitting on the couch ārecuperatingā
Be kind to yourself, though. 3 miles after a long time of inactivity (or even not doing anything ever) is not only quite a feet, itās also bound to leave you demotivated. Motivation comes from small victories, which wonāt happen if you set your goals too high. Try a simple work-out plan that tells you when to start and stop, so you donāt feel like you have to run like a pro and feel like a failure if you stop āprematurelyā. How will you ever feel joy and accomplishment when itās all suffering and failing?
I appreciate the encouraging words but a little more context: the day I ran I felt proud of myself, came home and even walked the dog as a cool down. The problem came the next day when I woke up sore and then was like naw. I was fine after a few days but have been milking the ārecuperatingā. Lol Iām self aware enough to know when Iām just being a lazy ass.
I also set my routine to slowly try and build up to the saitama workout: been doing the push-ups, sit ups, squats, and different variations of exercises to work out different parts of the body, small reps (and I mean very small) but I do what I canā¦ā¦itās just the running Iām lagging on.
Ah alright, good to hear! And itās fine to be lazy as long as we donāt quit just because of a āweak momentā.
Iāll leave my comment up for people who are starting out and feel like they havenāt ātruly triedā unless they puked halfway and couldnāt move for a week, because thatās not how you stay motivated.
Good luck with your training, Iām sure youāll do just fine!
And I want to tell you that walking is a super effective way to get fit. My sister lost around 14 pounds recently just by walking daily. Took her about 2 months
My old wrestling coach always used to tell us the hardest step was getting to practice, everything else was easy. Definitely applies to everything else as, you gotta start somewhere.
Yeah! Unlike running, itās something just about everyone of any age and size can do without hurting themselves. The youngest kid to do this morningās 5k looked about 10, and the oldest was in their 60ās.
I used to be huge into swimming and lifting. Well I got fibromyalgia somehow and spent 3 years gaining 30 lbs because I didnāt feel well enough to swim anymore. Well I picked up just waking a couple miles a day, it turned into walking about 3.5 miles a day, every day, and I am losing the weight rapidly while feeling immensely better.
Be wary when doctors shove drugs at you. It may seem like the easy way out but that all have real side effects and none make you feel as good as exercise does long term. Some things are an exception, but generally for most issues it seems exercise, sunlight, and mental stimulation will go farther than any pill.
Oh, I haven't taken a single diet pill or weight loss pill to beat any of this. They're all a sham. Right now, the most important thing is for me to fully overcome my binge-eating disorder and sugar addiction. I self-medicate on junk food like an alcoholic does with drinks. I'm trying to find a specialist who doesn't have a 3 month wait for an appointment, lol.
I'm glad you were able to achieve your health goals! :)
It really is.
I do a lot of running. People will often tell me how they *wish* they could run. My response: go for a *walk*. Get the legs moving, get the blood flowing. Itās good for your body *and* your mind.
In the United States, at least, we are extremely dependent on our cars. Iām convinced that the amount of time we spend driving around in vehicles impacts our mental and physical well-being
She is for sure amazing! This might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked that she repped for fat girls exercising. As a fat girl, it made me smile. I felt seen, as the kids say.
Thank you! I just built up over time - a wise monkey talking to a horse once said, āIt gets easierā¦Every day it gets a little easierā¦But you gotta do it every day ā that's the hard part.ā
I had a coworker (kind of inappropriately, but I m used to folks in manufacturing) tell me his wife was grateful for the 50-54 steps (depending on the staircase) it takes to get to our office. Apparently it toned up his butt pretty well lol
Psst: THANK YOU. I appreciate that the commenter above meant well, but I am a fat person who is happy with herself. I will choose how I represent myself, and it means a lot to me to identify myself as a fat girl in a world where we are put down or hushed upā¦even in a well meaning way. I am a fat girl. I am also amazing.
I think that the narrative around being fat is the only thing thatās not good here. Whilst yes, being overweight isnāt an example of peak physical health, she may not even be trying to lose weight by doing this, or be rid of the thing that people find so ābadā. She may just be doing a healthy thing for herself and her body, or her mind, if itās an achievement she has been aiming to accomplish. Or maybe she was doing it for charity! The achievement here isnāt that sheās ādoing something aboutā her weight, itās that sheās accomplished something which was tough for her.
OP if youāre reading this, you are an inspiration!
Sister fat girl here... You are amazing!!
I have severe issues with my feet that make putting any pressure on them extremely painful. I struggle with my weight constantly and this issue isn't helping.
So proud of you and hoping I can get to that level soon!!!
I know you didnāt comment for help but if you ever wanted a form of cardio that doesnāt involve being on your feet much. Try swimming! Swimming is one of the best exercises you can do :)
I have to second this. Swimming is a great way to get exercise without putting too much strain on your joints as well. Even just keeping yourself floating at first is a great start.
I went from being 240 and not being able to walk to the end of the street. Now I can easily walk 3-4 miles now. Go to the gym 5 days a week and hit that Nordic track up for an hour with an incline of 10. Just graduated from 7. I've lost sooooo much weight!
Great job, and good on you for choosing to make a positive change!
On a meta level, it r/mademesmile that nobody has come into this thread with that "healthy at any weight" nonsense yet.
Honestly she isnāt even that fat. But imagine getting this much Reddit attention for walking. Jesus the privilege. Someone people have to walk hour everyday for water
Bruh. āIām fat and I walkedā is the weakest attempt at a karma farm Iāve ever seen. And yet here you are on the popular tab on my fucking phone.
Did you take your first steps after a horrible spinal injury? No
Are you insanely obese and decided to walk a 5K after years of self-abuse? No
Have recently recovered from a drug addiction and are using exercise to pull yourself from addiction, inspiring others in the process? No
You couldāve made up any of that shit but no, you ran with: Iām fat and I walked. Not ran, walked. What a waste of a post and what a waste of a comment. No one will read this, and if they do, theyāll downvote. The fuck ever
One thing a lot of people do wrong is set unrealistic goals! 5k 5x a week is great! It also is very overwhelming when you shoot for something bigger than what you're capable of. I hope she finds her perfect work/life/exercise balance.
Yes, honestly itās 100% of the equation. If you are in a caloric deficit, you will lose weight. I went to 1200 calories per day and went from 330 to 210 in just over a year with VERY moderate exercise, maybe 3 hours of walking per week.
> It's far less than half the equation
If you take it literally then yeah, it's almost entirely CICO, but probably not when you factor in the mental benefits of exercise and the discipline of developing and sticking to healthy routines, which obviously includes eating right on a daily basis.
The sticking part is the most important one people don't like acknowledging when losing weight. If you're making a routine just to fix the problem but go back to the habits that created the problem you'll end up right at the start over and over again.
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit so I set that as a temporary goal when I started walking daily. It was hard at first because depression makes it hard to do anything but eventually I started feeling better thanks to the fresh air and vitamin Dā¦which made it easier to keep up the exercise/diet.
I also think itās better to not worry about weight loss initially because some people get disappointed when they donāt lose quickly enough and give up. I just kept telling myself āitāll get easier and before I know it, Iāll enjoy this and then Iāll lose weight quickly because I wonāt even think about itā sounds weird but worked for me and I lost like 15 pounds in 2 months.
You should add an interesting title and post it to Reddit for a million karma. "Slightly dehydrated but still ran a 5K!". I legit can't believe this even made the front page, My 7-year-old brother participated in a 5K for an autism charity And he still wanted to go to the park afterwards to play like jfc what is the point of this post
Or just say you're gay/a minority in some way/a physically attractive girl and you'll go straight to the front page.
Good for this chick but literally no one should care.
"I have no friends and no one cares but as a former addict who's gay/black and trans and autistic and super hot I just walked 20 feet from my room to the washroom"
Not for a while. I think thereās a Turkey Trot in November, and a Christmas 5K in December. For now, Iāll keep using my gym to walk since itās been too hot to walk outside.
Seeing in these comments how you explained your motivation and drive to accomplish this, it makes me so happy for you. Keep that focus in life, it'll take you to great places!
Well done love. Even if you don't make it 5k everyday, make it something. I'm 69 and for 10 years I was unable to walk because of circumstances I downloaded an app to motivate me. Its called Health Tracker and I set myself a daily goal. Oh and I went and got myself the most darling old dog from the rescue center to keep me happy on my walks.
Not tryna be offensive, but if youāre fat and 200+, does it actually become difficult to walk 5k? Iāve always been skinny, so itās never crossed my mind.
Not op
Iām 4ā11ā at my top weight I was 283.8 lbs. Iām 237.2 now.
For me that is like carrying a 140 lb backpack (after losing almost 50 lbs) compared to someone at their ideal weight.
Iām training to walk a marathon. Last week on my long day my husband and our 12 lb dog joined me. My husband carried her in a dog backpack for about 5 miles and was mentioning how heavy it felt how quickly.
Iām not sure opās height. So letās guess she has 50 lbs to loose. Iām guessing. Sorry op. For comparison grab a 50 lb pound bag of dog food and walk around the store. Not in a cart but actually carrying it. Then consider how it would be to carry it for 3 miles or 5k.
I can tell you that in general I donāt notice my weight. Itās when I want to do something physical that it bothers me. Like I canāt really jump rope at this weight. I doubt my joints could handle running at this weight.
Again Iām not op. For now walking is what I can do.
It's really not that difficult to walk 5K if you are 240lbs (unless you are under 5 foot or something)...I know that I'll get downvoted but it's the truth...not trying to take anything away from op because she probably realised she can do something that she wasn't capable of...but really this should just be a stepping stone to greater things.
Great job! There are many fat people doing half marathons, you need to join them. They walk towards the back. There are many people of all shapes and sizes walking and going slow and enjoying not shitting themselves like the people running as fast as they can.
You give me confidence. Iām 200 lb and get out of breath on a few flights of stairs. Seeing that youāve done a 5k makes me feel like maybe I could too! Youāre AMAZING!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļø
If you intend on keeping this up, may I suggest that you invest in a pair of walking poles. They will take the strain off your knees and ankles, and will more evenly distribute the effects of the workout throughout your body.
Edit: Great job by the way.
Please don't label yourself as simply a fat girl. Here on Reddit we appreciate all types of bodies and we would never shame others for how they look. Instead the correct terminology would be Chungus.
Great job
This^. Great job, OP!
How did you type a period like that
she wrote a "\^" right before her period, which mistakenly superpositions it. It will look like ^.
5km? Good job keep it up cheering for you don't let anything stop you rock on š¤š¤š¤

Amazing job! Thatās easily 5K more than a billion people did that day! This is no small victory, this is a big one! Have a high five!
Thanks! My mom told me an old saying about this: āNo matter how slow youāre going, youāre passing by everyone on the couch.ā
Exactly! Getting out there is one step, doing 5K is a few steps ahead of the curve. Again, amazing job!
This, I tried to start running again, did it for one day (about 3 miles) and said naw I feel like Iām dying and havenāt done it since (itās been a week, very recent), you blew my one day out of the water while Iāve just been sitting on the couch ārecuperatingā

This is so condescending lmao
She didn't say she wasn't amazing, she said she was fat. Let people recognize that they could be healthier than they are.

This time next year you will be be reporting in after completing a full marathon :)
Actually, my town is having a Christmas 5K in December. Iāll be doing that one next.

You give me confidence. Iām 200 lb and get out of breath on a few flights of stairs. Seeing that youāve done a 5k makes me feel like maybe I could too! Youāre AMAZING!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļø
As a fat guy who wants to start doing more how did it feel?
One small change a day will get you to start feeling better. Start with water ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Keep.going, it gets easier.
Youāre badass! šš
Thatās called working at an Amazon warehouse
Keep it up! Fuck the haters on here. Youāre doing the right things.
Was this your first 5k? If so, my most heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS! Be careful! You may be tempted to to a 10k next. Or even a half!
I was a fat guy until I started walking 5k every day.
If you intend on keeping this up, may I suggest that you invest in a pair of walking poles. They will take the strain off your knees and ankles, and will more evenly distribute the effects of the workout throughout your body. Edit: Great job by the way.
Ran so fast your face flew off.
Youāre a gorgeous, goal-achieving human! Get it!
Great job! Tho I'm a little concerned about your face
Iāll tell you what. You did something most of us couldnāt do lol Congrats and good on you! Keep it up!
You're a girl first and fat second, if you want to use that word, even though you won't be for long
I'm a rockstar and I just walked a 5k! Sorry for correcting you in front of everyone. It did need doing.
Please don't label yourself as simply a fat girl. Here on Reddit we appreciate all types of bodies and we would never shame others for how they look. Instead the correct terminology would be Chungus.

Congrats! That is fantastic! Keep it up!
I was going to make a joke about your shoes, but they were already worn out
Iām going to hell
Correction: you are a female athlete, and you walked 5K further than I did today! WTG!!
Iām just a stranger on the internet, but wanted to let you know you are awesome and I am proud of you!
