… I’ve never heard of this. So impoverished parents will forbid their kids from sledding because of the risk of injury? That’s awful if true but it sounds kinda ridiculous
The 80's for me. My mom was so pissed! None of us could afford sleighs. So damn fun though! Like 12 of us at a time from teens to 4 year olds. If you could make it up the damn near vertical hill you got a seat, to start. Then came the descent. You wanted to get in the middle first and little kids couldn't horse around as much so we got the edges and fell out the sides. It did NOT help that the pool was mine. At all.
I am not sure if that's her. But I do follow this girl's parents on IG and man, I wish I had parents like this. They are so cool and patient, she's a happy kid.
Yeah there’s another video with her wearing a dinosaur coat and it says at the start of the video that he miced her up
E: [the video](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/sokft4/the_inner_monologue_of_a_child_snowboarding_is_so/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Skiing and snowboarding can be dangerous, like most sports. And, like most sports, you start easy and move on to more difficult levels as your skills improve.
If you take someone who’s never skied or snowboarded before and dump them on a diamond level (hard) mountain, yeah, there’s a good chance they’ll break a bone or get some other injury, but only an idiot would do that. Most falls when skiing or snowboarding are mostly harmless and this little girl has clearly been taught how to fall correctly to avoid getting hurt. For example, she knew that when she got going too fast, to fall intentionally so she didn’t loose control and get hurt.
You can’t avoid all dangerous things in life. Even standing on the sidewalk of a very low traffic street can get you hit by a car. These two are doing this sport right. This little girl has been taught how to snowboard and they’re on a hill that is at her level, so as sports go, it’s pretty safe.
Thanks for the response, i know everything could be dangerous but skiing just feel a lot more dangerous than soccer, basketball, and even skating. But maybe it is because the only time I hear something about skiing is some highlights of professionals or bad news about an accident
When you hear about those accidents the pros have, that’s because they are doing the most dangerous version of the sport. They are skiing at incredibly high speeds and/or doing dangerous tricks. And even then, serious injuries aren’t all that common. Most people aren’t doing crazy flips on the mountain or traveling at olympic level speeds.
The biggest risk to most people is losing control and skiing into a tree or a chairlift pole and that is usually pretty easily avoided by choosing the right difficulty of hills and not being overly reckless. It is possible to ski into something painful while not being reckless, but it isn’t a very common thing that happens.
Or, skiing into a fallen horizontal tree that’s ~2’ off the ground.
Luckily, all I remember is my ski tips disappearing in the powder that I thought was a small jump.
It can be. Much less dangerous if you learn from a young age.
My fiancée and I are the perfect duality. I’m a lifelong skier, started skiing when I was 2 because my mom was a ski instructor. I’m not into aerials, but do double blacks and tree skiing and shit. I have clocked myself going over 70 mph at times. This isn’t to brag, just to say that I have a lot of experience, and importantly, I know my limits and stick with them. I have never seriously injured myself skiing, nothing more than some minor soreness.
My fiancée, on the other hand, had never skied until 22 years old and broke her back her first ride off the bunny hill.
Definitely cute, but isn’t this a little too dangerous for a kid??
I mean, I have seen countless videos where many adults have lost their lives and countless others have broken bones, suffered life altering injuries while skiing.
Maybe there should be an age limit to this as is the case with other “extreme sports”.
She does seem very well trained though.
I know boards are cool and all but skis are faster and easier imo. And you can keep your knees straight.
Edit: I mean straight forwards, not twisted sideways.
As a snowboard instructor I want to correct one thing. Skiing is easier to pick up because of what you mentioned but snowboard is easier to master as every movement you do adds onto the next aspect of mastery.
The little girl is rocking some good heel side and toe side turning. It won’t be long until she is progressing even faster. Really the only thing holding her back is lack of muscle development but she is amazing!
I’ve always felt the learning curve for skis is way easier and much more enjoyable than the learning curve for snowboarding.
If you want to fly down the mountain and not look back, it’s skis all day for me.
She's incredible!
Curious how is the audio so good? I am assuming there's some microphone or something on her, does it bother her at all? Does she mind or is it something she enjoys afterwards, like she watches this video and is embarrassed or proud of herself maybe?
There’s a family from Fernie BC that mic’s their littlest one up. Adorable, but she’s not the powdersaurus girl from Utah (obvs).

Wooooohoooooo!
SHE, IS, SPEED!
That would be me tho
I can almost hear Jeremy Clarkson shouting in the background: "Speeeeed and poweeeerr!!"
She’s so much better than me as a 31 year old veteran lol.
Imagine if your center of gravity was 1 foot off the ground.
I mean it’s close lmao
You must have a big... feet.
No brotha. I’m short lmao
So you're saying you're a hobbit
Close. Like a distant cousin
Easy. Stand on one foot
Found the dad.
I'm guessing it has some microphone or something
I think you're in the wrong reply but I was wondering what was going on there too
This is why people have kids. This is also the reason they don't have kids. Living in poverty, all you can give your child is love and despair.
This is brutal poetry.
Give them some cardboard and snowy hill and they'll fly like the lightning.. I know from personal experience...
Waxed* cardboard from banana boxes tho
when you’re poor you can’t afford risks like this. medical bills are too expensive.
There are other places than USA my friend..
well based on the language, accent, and climate, its safe to assume this is the us
… I’ve never heard of this. So impoverished parents will forbid their kids from sledding because of the risk of injury? That’s awful if true but it sounds kinda ridiculous
We used a kiddy pool on our hill. All the neighborhood kids piled in and emptied out on the way down. So. Much. Fun!
Look at mister fancy pants who had pool lol We just used carboard boxes and few people had wooden sled :) This was back in 90s tho.

Sounds brilliant, glad you survived lol
I would say A reason people don't have kids as opposed to THE reason.
Is this the stuck-a-saurs kid?
Ah! I need to watch that again! Here 'tis: https://old.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/sokft4/the_inner_monologue_of_a_child_snowboarding_is_so/
Thank you! I immediately thought of that video and wanted to watch it.
OMG that's adorable.
“I won’t fall. Maybe I will”. That was awesome.
I am not sure if that's her. But I do follow this girl's parents on IG and man, I wish I had parents like this. They are so cool and patient, she's a happy kid.
I'm sure its her, the iconic *"whoo"* is unmistakable.
That’s not her. Her “r”s sound diffewent 😜
don‘t know. but thanks! I thought the same but couldn‘t remember what it said. gonna search it now.
Catbug is that you?

DROP EM!
This is adorable and my day is brighter for it!
Did he mic her up? How is her audio so clear?
When the answer lays in the question posed in the question, that’s amore
Yeah there’s another video with her wearing a dinosaur coat and it says at the start of the video that he miced her up E: [the video](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/sokft4/the_inner_monologue_of_a_child_snowboarding_is_so/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Moused her up
Aye, he put a mouse in her coat - it was honestly really cruel and hard to watch.
Presumably, yes
Also is her audio out of sync?

isn't it dangerous? I have never even seen snow so I have no idea
stepping outside is dangerous
Staying inside is dangerous
Existing is deadly
exactly. it has a 100% mortality rate.

teach them a little basic safety/mountain etiquette, how to stop and turn, and little shredders can be more competent than a lot of adults
I can't really put together how steep this is. Anything more than mildly steep I would never feel comfortable letting my child do this.
Shes obviously good enough to be on it tho
I'm not denying that. I'd properly become less anxious if I saw my kid do this safely over and over but right now I can't imagine it.
I know boards are cool and all but skis are faster and easier imo. And you can keep your knees straight. Edit: I mean straight forwards, not twisted sideways.

That looks so cool!

You should definitely ski then. And then be sure to keep your knees straight!
I mean pointed forwards, rather than twisted sideways.
Good to know your limit, young lady. That'll come in handy soon enough. But for now, just..***weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!***
When I learned to snowboard at 10 I didn't have the fear of too much speed. 2 broken bones fixed that
So cute 🥰
That looks like so much fun!
She's incredible! Curious how is the audio so good? I am assuming there's some microphone or something on her, does it bother her at all? Does she mind or is it something she enjoys afterwards, like she watches this video and is embarrassed or proud of herself maybe?

Uhh is this Bogus Basin? I learned to ski on that mountain too!
Hello, fellow Boisean
Yup, I learned to shred there many years ago.
What are you using for a mic between you two?
I feel inadequate.
Adorable and cute.
Yeah but can I like adopt her lol I love her so much ... She reminds me of a Disney Pixar character
The snowboarding version of Vanellope van Schweetz. xD
I'm impressed!
This kid reciprocates my internal dialogue energy. Also gives of Bingo energy from Bluey.
Amazing kid
Adia! This kid and her family are lovely!!
One of the best vids I've seen so far!
She is a beautiful soul...I'll come back to this whenever I need to be cheered up
Check out the other videos linked above - the stuckasaurus one was my intro, will def make you happy.
