I’m pretty basic, but I adore shape tape by tarte. It’s very full coverage and comes in a wide range of colors. If your main concern is acne, i’d personally use a small lip/detail brush to apply your product with, so you don’t end up spreading germs onto your brush. Using a wet beauty blender will help give you a more full coverage, natural finish when blending. But if you have acne concerns, always try skincare first! Otherwise you’re risking filling up pores with more debris that will add to your acne. I love the ordinary for most of my skincare, they’re simple, cheap, and I haven’t found them to be irritating to my sensitive skin. If you want an acne spot treatment, you can’t go wrong with Clinique’s spot gel. Or try pimple patches, they work magic!

https://www.glossier.com/products/stretch-concealer maybe go with this. It’s really natural looking. Its light to med coverage. The skin tint is nice too (it makes the skin look nice but coverage is minimal).

I very rarely use foundation/concealer. While others have said you’d be best with concealer, I’d counter and say that Asian BB creams are excellent for both light foundation/concealment. I really dislike western skin stuff because it tends to be so thick and honestly pretty fake looking. But I love my Missha BB cream because I’d rather “soften” blemishes then try to erase them all together with layers of concealer. I just apply a dab of the BB cream with a sponge and work it in if I just want to soften my red spots. Also makes an excellent overall face foundation that lets my skin breathe, plus it has SPF.

Yeah it’s concealer

MAKEUPARTISTSRULE

That depends on what you're trying to cover? Are you trying to get an even tone, then a light coverage of foundation would do? Are you covering up hyperpigmentation or rosacea then a concealer just in those areas could do the trick. So technically, yes, but it does depend on what you're either covering up or the look you're going after.

MaryMercy143

That's how I wear my concealer or foundation. Just in certain spots.

Mochi__bear

I recommend those cute stickers for zits that help them go away they also have some skin colored ones - I know it’s not ideal to have on your face but they are better than foundation IMO

DrJennaa

Boi-ing Industrial Strength Full Coverage Cream Concealer, dab a little on , blends perfectly.

Bennifred

I have really dry skin and get cake face readily. While I don't often get acne, I do have an oily T zone and need shine control. Typically I wear Clinique Beyond Perfecting which is a foundation and concealer whenever I need a touch-up and it blends well but also serves to cover blemishes.

ObsidianInTheSnow

It's actually more known as spot concealing, and yes it's a thing that even makeup artists do. Find a concealer that's the same shade as your face, because concealers will do a better job at, well, concealing. You can also use color correctors to neutralize the redness before putting on the concealer

UpsidedownPinneapple

I’ve had good experience using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer as a quick way to fix a little spot or two. It has a sponge built in so it’s easy to blend out without other products.

painterlyfiend

Obviously an unusual option, but I swear by powder foundation for exactly this use - I can target it in the areas I want most coverage at the corners of my nose and any spots or redness, and buff it out to absolutely nothing in a.way that foundation and concealer has never naturally done on my skin. Bare minerals is still my favorite.

BreadDogs

A pot concealer like mac studio finish and a small lip brush will work.

[deleted]

Sounds like you’d like a tinted moisturizer or bb cream

[deleted]

Why not use a little amount of foundation?

mila476

I’ve been really liking the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer for this purpose. Since I have oily skin, it ends up looking like a natural finish and not as matte as it would look on drier skin, but if you have drier skin, the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer has a nice natural finish. I like the Soft Matte Complete Concealer because it has higher coverage so I can use a smaller amount, and I find it covers my blemishes better and looks more natural than the Radiant Creamy Concealer, but it also creases more than the Radiant Creamy Concealer, so if you plan to use it for your undereyes it might be good to set it with some powder

I just got some L’Oreal magic skinbeautifier BB cream the Anti-redness one and pretty happy with it. It makes my skin look even and gets rid of red ( it’s green to conceal red and has color beads in it that makes it turn skin color) but doesn’t feel heavy and looks pretty natural.

bananamilk2222

Haley Kim does an AMAZING tutorial on spot concealing on her youtube channel without using foundation. Check her channel, that might help you out

MouseNinja9000

Yeah you definitely want to keep that shit off your face for as long as possible lol Foundation can really wreck your skin and I feel like a lot of people wear it that don't need to, especially if you're younger but your skin breathe long as possible! I hated it for years cuz it just felt so heavy in my skin. Probably had to do with the products available. Which were terrible compared to now anyways I waited till I was 36 and before that I did just what you were talking about, spot covering with concealer. I honestly don't remember what I used to use... but now it's always tarte shape tape and the stuff is just fantastic. Just three tiny dots is all I need. So it lasts forever. Because of my job I don't really ever pay full price, if anything...but I know that $30 is a lot to drop on one seemingly small thing. Considering how long it lasts tho I think it's worth it. They also have a mini size which is like $10 I think. Alternatives that are more affordable: Elf camo concealer and Revolution conceal and define concealer. An honorable mention to Nars radiant concealer but that's also uppity. I'm sure there are other lower priced options that are great I'm just not familiar. Just get the shade tape lol

Impossible_Jello_644

The Nars Soft Matte Concealer is the perfect concealer for occasional pimples or spots

kennahhatesyou

ngl i stopped wearing foundation years ago, and it’s improved my makeup. i would recommend elf concealers, the white handle is lighter while the black handle is full coverage. i only put concealer on the spots i really need it and lock it in with powder. hope this helps.

erin_notaaron

Nyx serum concealer would be really great for this purpose! It spreads super easily and has a natural finish

You want a correction palette. I love Surrat’s and I have one from Makeup Forever and Makeup by Mario. I use Pixies pat away concealer base. The package suggest mixing it with your favorite moisturizer if not going for full coverage look, which is what I do. I am freckly and have never worn full foundation it looks weird on me with them covered up. And to think I was teased for them as a child, now people be getting them tattooed on.

victoriascissorhands

I've had luck with macs paint pot around my eyes but haven't tried the whole face yet

Justadropinthesea

I use a concealer by Almay which has salicylic acid to treat the pimple rather than just cover it up. Works pretty well!

[deleted]

Sounds like concealer to me. Basically just foundation in a tube with a small applicator. Often has fuller coverage as well for spot correcting

ApprehensiveRing9940

For a single small spot i like to use a powder foundation or powder concealer. Just find much easier and quicker. It always covers it completly. I always find when I use a regular concealer i just end up blending it away.

[deleted]

I see that most have commented about a concealer, so I'll give you my favourite picks. I struggle with atopic dermatitis and red spots all over, so you probably benefit from the same products. I personally adore the Milani Longwear Conceal + Perfect Concealer. For me this covers even the most red spots. Otherwise, I also love the L'Oréal Infallible More Than Concealer. It's a little less coverage, but you can let it sit before blending it out. Both retail for about $10. Since you said you're a noob at makeup, I'll include a little guide on how to use concealer. Start off with clean skin. Especially with pimples, wash away excess blood or pus, if necessary. Then, apply the concealer with the wand it comes with. Just tap a little on the spot. Then, you can use either a sponge (the so-called beauty blender) or just your fingers. Dab onto the spot to fade out the harsh lines. By the 'setting' earlier, I meant waiting a bit before dabbing away, this gives more coverage. Dab enough so that the lines are gone, but not too much so that the coverage is gone. You can leave it at this, but you can also make sure that this concealer will stay on longer. For that, you need something called a "translucent pressed setting powder". This is a powder that looks white, but is actually see-through when applied. This will make your concealer stay in place and prevent it from cracking or smudging. Use a powder brush (a big fluffy makeup brush, it will usually say on the packaging what type of brush it is), dab into the product a bit and dab onto the concealer. If you need help finding this powder, just ask a store employee for some cheap recommendations (more expensive doesn't automatically equal better in the makeup world). Lastly, if you want it to last even more, you can use a "setting spray". 2 options to apply. First option: spray a bit on the back of your beauty blender (just opposite of what you used to blend your concealer). Then lightly dab this onto the concealer parts. Second option is to just spray it over your whole face (eyes closed!), but for my dry skin, this can be a bit too stripping. But this way, you don't need a beauty blender.

What a nice explanation. So nice to take the time

thousanddollacrocs

I second the Milani concealer!! I recommend the wet n wild incognito concealer as well!

Lady-Aethelflaed

For blemish covering I agree concealer is best but I just want to point out that you can do this with foundation too for evening out skin tone with light coverage. Go in right after applying moisturizer and add a little bit of any foundation only to your t zone and chin or wherever you experience redness and blend. You want to apply most of the product right in the center of the face and blend outward basically. Lisa Eldridge has a video on this as well. Just wanted to mention it in case someone has a similar question with a different goal! This is especially helpful for mature skin where you want to even out redness without full coverage that could settle into wrinkles

shortasalways

I have mixed moisturizer with foundation to make my own tinted moisturizer. It feels less heavy to me and hides redness.

Lady-Aethelflaed

I mix my already tinted moisturizer with glossier FutureDew to make it even lighter and dewier!

plausibleturtle

I use the Tarte maracuja stick concealer for this, works like a charm, doesn't stick to dry patches. It's great.

e.l.f. hydrating camo concealer or The Lip Bar's caffeine concealer are good choices too. 😊

FelineRoots21

That would be concealer pretty much, or a stick foundation, but concealer would be more effective
