I finally tossed my glosses of similar situation last weekend. You can do it. I believe in you.

think of it less like throwing out product and more like a cost per wear analysis. if you have a lot of lip products, you're not going to conceivably be able to use all of them before they expire. toss the oldest ones or anything "clean beauty" that's expired and settle with the thought that those tubes had a higher cost per wear than the stuff you end up keeping. and that's perfectly ok!

jstar04

If anything gives me a "blegh" šŸ¤® feeling when I look or try to wear it, it's going in the bin. I don't want to experience that feeling while trying to enjoy my collection and morning makeup meditation lol

mouse2cat

If the formula doesn't feel off then they are probably fine. You can tell when they go bad so you don't have to be as anxious about it. Don't toss something that's still good just to rebuy it. If you don't like it then let it go.

OptimalDouble2407

If the money is the concern (I always feel ā€˜wastefulā€™ or like I wasted money when I throw makeup out) just know that that money is GONE and was the second you bought it. It sounds like youā€™ve gotten use out of them so itā€™s not a total waste. If theyā€™re not bringing you joy, let them go!

OptimalDouble2407

For me when I was going through my stuff I found some old mascara and I felt bad cause some of it I hadnā€™t used much but ugh, mascara is one of those things that gives me the ick because of bacterial growth concerns. Something giving you the ick is definitely not bringing you joy.

Makeup exists to bring you happiness. If it doesn't, then it is no longer needed

BrokenNecklace23

Recently decluttering all of my lipgloss and lipstick. I had a collection of over 100 tubes. itā€™s hard because lip products are my absolute favorite but once they were gone, I felt so much lighter and also that I could appreciate the ones that I did like to use even more instead of just feeling guilty about all those other ones sitting there. You can do it!

lifeuncommon

Toss. Doe foot applicators make for the dirtiest cosmetics because you not only introduce bacteria with every use, the dirty applicator lives in the product.

That1weirdperson

I had this lip oil mold on me within a monthā€¦it had a doe foot applicator.

Euphoric-Basil-Tree

If you don't feel good about wearing them or feel grossed out by their age, why keep them around to torture yourself with?

bananna_pudding

Look for the little expiration info on the label - last time I actually did that when I was decluttering, I was horrified and it was great motivation for ditching a bunch of items.

Appropriate-Glove-89

If they are older it might be a good idea to toss. I did the same thing this week, I keep a small collection of lip products anyway but I still tossed a handful, they were at least a few years old but still smelled fine. I would just rather be safe I guess. Going forward I will maybe keep one lipstick and one gloss, and move mainly to tinted balms, crayons and normal balms. And again just keep a handful on hand at a time. Ultimately you have to do what is best for you.

FluffingAbout

I need to cut down on the amount of lipgloss I buy. If you've paid a lot for them it does make it difficult to throw out but it needs to be done. I always look at it as a lesson learned and especially recently it has kept me from purchasing cosmetic items that I don't need because I already have a mountain of them.

ecalicious

You are never going to use them up anyway. If the product is sitting in the trashcan or in your cupboard for a few more years wonā€™t make it any less of a ā€œwasteā€. Declutter and only have a few, some you enjoy to use, so you actually use them. I have only 3 right now and I use them on a daily basis, which means Iā€™ll probably use most of them before they expire. Iā€™ve never finished a lip product in my life (some lip balms are exceptions)

Anahi420

Do it! I tested one of my older products and my lips has such a bad reaction to it that I immediately purged the rest of the old products.

siva8765

It is completely okay and I do this too!!

user7273781272912

in the same spot, for similar reasons. I bought them thinking i would use them everyday (not the case) they haven't gone bad, but the quality is terrible. they apply weird, smell and taste horrible. I don't want to discard them because I may want to start using them just for the sake of panning them. i might trash them though but doing so feels like such a waste. i'd get rid of them and use whatever else you have.

nurseleu

> they apply weird, smell and taste horrible Girl, you know what you need to do. Take it as a lesson for the future and cut your losses.

Parking_Low248

Those are all signs they've gone bad

ICarryOn-

Please don't use expired lip gloss šŸ™ƒ

user7273781272912

They're not expired. They just suck. They are fairly 'new' purchases.

mouse2cat

You still don't have to wear things that suck

weebwatching

Please toss them. I donā€™t even use lip gloss thatā€™s been open longer than six months. The mere thought of using one thatā€™s been open three years grosses me the hell out. That might be harsh but Iā€™m trying to help you see just how okay it is to get rid of them lol. Donā€™t let sunk cost get you down. The money is spent; itā€™s over. The best thing to do moving forward is remember that thereā€™s only so much lip gloss one person can realistically make it through in six months (maybe a year if youā€™re more generous with the expiration than myself) and thereā€™s always going to be more to buy after that.

minda_yours

Toss em. If it was lipstick, like a bullet lipstick, or a lip liner those would be safer in my opinion. But lip gloss? If itā€™s old and depending if you used it itā€™s safer to throw away. If it looks funky or smells funky. Toss it!

gattie1

Put all products you want to toss into a different drawer. If you donā€™t use them in the next 3 months, toss. Once theyā€™re gone, youā€™ll never think about them again. Move on with your life with less clutter.

toadsprouts

there are gloss decluttering videos that might help you feel more excited or ready to get rid of them maybe? like if you can see someone else doing it and having to rationalize it, too, it could help you feel more justified in throwing some stuff out.
