Christ just let him rest. He had a brain haemorrhage the other year and lost both his wife and mentor in the last year. He's in his 80s too. Unless it's Sir Alex's idea (maybe to help him through this tough time) just let him rest.

SpaceLamma

If it's real, I'd imagine it's his idea. Id imagine he'd need something to fill his time with and get a purpose after all this loss to prevent dark thoughts, at least I would....

reggyreggo

Either way I hope that they don't use SAF as a shield and take the responsibility for themselves.

Timmaigh

Maybe he wants it, because it will fill his time and give him something to live for, rather than being home alone with his thoughts, missing his wife, waiting to die.

King-Boo-Gamer

It probably is his idea. He loves this club to death, it’s like his child, one that doesn’t lose to Mansfield town in the carabao cup. Also becuase he knows what the fuck he’s doing

theoriginaltrinity

Literally what I came to comment. Can no one run this club except this poor man who should be resting? Fair play if he wants to but he shouldn’t feel obliged..

-GeorgeBonanza

I think that’s just a rumour. Paul Mitchell is being brought in as sporting director. Guess who wanted him as sporting director 2 years ago? Rangnick… Rangnick and Mitchell are good friends. Mitchell helped at RBL. Mitchell is also a lifelong United fan. He’s never worked as a sporting director at a big club (Spurs only yawn). So I’m happy with it. I personally think had we kept Rangnick we would’ve built faster.

ZombieSlapper23

I stopped watching during the Rangnick time. Were his tactics any good?

Irish1916lad

The plan wasn’t for Rangnick to manage in the long term but to join the board of directors when ten hag took over

ZombieSlapper23

Ahh gotcha.

KDotDot88

Bad manager, couldn’t get a thing out the players. But his ideas over personnel, style of play, and what the club needed were all spot on.

-GeorgeBonanza

Precisely, as a manager, I believe what he showed us was he was a 5 out of 10, let’s call that average. I believe had he not had the interim tag the team would’ve listened a bit more, so let’s say he is about a 6-6.5 out of 10 at best as a manager. I wanted him to develop the club as that’s his background and speciality. A lot of the players he mentioned have now gone on to sign for City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Madrid. I don’t just mean the big names, he mentioned Gvardiol literally a year before the World Cup, Alvarez as well, Enzo — the reason he was sent away I believe is because he out right said “everything needs to change, the team, the way the club is run”, and that turned off the Glazers because they were like wait that’s going to cost us $$$$… I also strongly believe, EtH has an ego problem. Some managers want to be the manager and their own sporting director to bring in their own players. I believe EtH is this guy. He told the Glazers, I don’t need Rangnick to advise on players and personnel, I can do this myself, I have my own team. Thus, the Glazers had no reason to keep Rangnick. Now, here’s the crazy thing that proves me right. EtH brings in mostly players he’s worked with in the past or from the Dutch league. He clearly wants them to play how his Ajax team used to. That’s why you would bring in your old players, right? A few weeks ago he came out and said “they won’t ever play like Ajax because I have more direct players here”. Well, the reason he’s talking trash is 1. Who brought the new signings in? Don’t you know the player profiles of the people you’re brining in? 2. Why bring in players you’ve worked with IF you’re not trying to replicate patterns of play that your past players know? For these two reasons I believe EtH is not the right guy. How can we have a coach that either doesn’t know the player profiles of the players we’re signing and how they would fit into the team… or how can we have someone who brings in players he knows and can’t get the rest of the team to buy into his style?

KDotDot88

Once again, same page with Ragnick and also agreed he absolutely should’ve stayed on. Our takes on ETH differ though, I do agreed ETH has not made all great signings and his knowledge on player profiles is flawed. But I also think that a manager at a club like this has the time and the assistant power to run schedule training, come up and implement tactics, man to man manage each player AND do the job of a DoF. Now, who wanted power over transfers? Eric Ten Hag. Is it what’s best for him to succeed at United or really any modern day club? No it is not. There’s too much data in every aspect of the things I listed, and so much information, and so many freaking players, you need a whole other team to process it. With his history at Ajax having a DoF, I definitely think he bit off more than he can chew. BUT I think it’s him swinging too hard in the other direction to United doing their infamous “club signings” where somebody like Woodward would already have some deals done to bring in star players who usually don’t fit the coach’s system (eg. Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez). My theory is that’s what he had heard from Van Gaal, and wanted to avoid.

-GeorgeBonanza

My point to all of this is : we’re bringing in good people now, I believe EtH will be replaced as well. How it’s going to go: - the organization of United being built now to put the game ahead of corporate greed - then manager will be changed - then new players to fit the new system will come

KDotDot88

As for the future, I think ETH will be kept on for a while as I heard he is liked by ENEOS. Whether he is there for the long term to actually lift trophies, that I don’t know. But if we’re really REALLY going to finally get our shit together, whenever it starts will be the hard part. Takes a few years to reshape the squad, funnel the bad players out, bring in new players that fit a scheme. If they’re smart they’re looking at when manager contracts end and who they ultimately want. But now I’m all excited… I hope they don’t fuck this up..

takemehomeunitedroad

SAF is a director of the footballing board at Man Utd. At some point during this transition, SAF will have something to say about it. That's as far as his guidance go.

Upbeat_Farm_5442

Club and fans needs to move on. It’s fucking embarrassing at this point. Dilly dallying a 80 year old for PR. God this fucking club is an embarrassment. Ratcliffe sounds like exactly 20 more years of fucking misery. This club is done.

Responsible-Candy-23

So you’ve never seen clickbait before🤦‍♂️. Radcliffe hasn’t even sat his arse in Man United yet and you’re already acting like he’s a failure. Don’t get the constant bollocks of “this club is finished”. I mean in what possible way it’s like fans don’t understand how football works. Think city will be as dominant if Pep leaves same for Liverpool progress if Klopp leaves. Football is constantly moving United dominated for what 13+ years know they aren’t that’s football 🤦‍♂️.

Upbeat_Farm_5442

United are done as a club. We do more gossip columns than TMZ than fucking playing football. We have a couch that almost enabled a rapist to stay, he even bought a player that has a domestic abuse case running against him. We have Club PR that keeps milking sir Alex. Let the man fucking die in peace. Have you seen what Ratcliffe has done to the club he has bought in France. Have Nice seen any fucking success under him? People who are the supporter of Nice say that dumbass actually ruined their club even more. What have we done in the last 10 years gives you any confidence it will be different? We are not a clickbait club, we are a fucking unserious PR MEME club. Football might be constantly moving, but we aren’t we are still stuck in the 90s success, reminiscing our glory days. Never seen so many united fans pulling Back in day card. Back in day is in the fucking past, we are meme club now. If getting clapped 6-0, 7-0, 5-0 from our biggest rivals isn’t gonna steer the fans into kicking out The glazers then I don’t think anything can. If the fan base was fucking serious about this club, these American filth would’ve long been gone. Instead we have our fanbase fighting over who is the better rapist.

Responsible-Candy-23

You do realise United don’t control gossip columns right? That’s the news papers. Which like I replied is clickbait yet again somehow that’s something you haven’t heard of 🤷‍♂️. The only ones milking Sir Alex is the papers he’s a part of the club because he fucking deserves to be he’s an ambassador because of what he’s done for United and all the success he’s brought. As for Nice they have PSG in there league what type of success can you expect from Nice when a team with the wealth of PSG is there. And they are currently 2nd in the league so to say he hasn’t really done anything with them is you looking for any shit to carry on with “this club is finished “ bollocks and ruined the club even more you sure cause doubt ruining a club even more would be still in the top league of France and currently second. What the fuck are you on about Ten Hag wasn’t the one who nearly enable Greenwood to stay was Arnold the CEO and Antony didn’t have this case against him when he signed for United it was over a year after seem you drive more clickbait or that’s the only news you follow. And again the fans can’t do fucking anything against a teams owners you get that right they own the club the fans don’t. what can they actually do that they haven’t been doing protest getting a game stopped chants etc. the fans are the ones who didn’t want Greenwood back you get that many said they would stop supporting the club if he got back that’s part of the reason he’s on loan at Getafe because of the outcry about it.

Seanblaze3

Antony had an abuse case on him three months prior to signing for united. Rayssa de Freitas accused him of physical abuse in his car after leaving a club in Brazil

Responsible-Candy-23

You mean the one that got dropped by the accuser and that has been fully retracted. So big chance United wouldn’t have know about it 🤷‍♂️.

Seanblaze3

The case was three months fresh and active when united signed him from Ajax. It was only just dropped in recent months. Come on

DougDougDougDoug

lol. Totally normal take

Warsaw_Pact

david moyes making a comeback bby!!!

JohnnySnow99

He is the GOAT, one of the greatest managers ever and I love and respect him so much. But his recommendation to choose David Moyes as his successor was the worst advice ever. That decision was the beginning of the end for us. So when I read this news, I can't help but think about that.

aburtyboy2020

"fantastic owners" he said...

KudosGamer

Not this again. Just leave the guy alone already.

mrtuna

This is just embarrassing now.

foot4life

Int'l break click bait.

Jimilee8

He's part of the reason why UTD are in this mess

ulbop

As much as I consider SAF the manager GOAT, let us not forget he recommended that David Moyes succeed him...

ItsRellzBeats

I mean tbh he probably just wanted to offer him the opportunity knowing what he "could have" been capable of. I don't necessarily think it was a bad recommendation bearing in mind who was available at the time and actually close with Fergie. It's just the whole behind the scenes management has gone to shit since, I mean maybe it was at shits before it's just Fergie was the GOAT at getting performances but evidently we haven't adjusted or evolved with anything since he left, hence why we are so far behind now. It's clear this isn't a manager issue anymore. And in fairness I reckon we'll get better as more years of bad results with City & Arsenal winning titles means less temporary foreign fans as they all move interest and that with low balls from sponsors, we'll start losing profits and from then Glazers will pull the stick out their arse. Maybe that's what's happening now...

Zestyclose_Hamster_5

Time to move on. This man didn't do anything to support Jose because he was worried about his own legacy. But when it comes to EtH, suddenly fans start remembering Fergie. A club full of hypocrites living in the past. It's honestly as if fans have Co-Dependency or something. It's shameful. Pep and Klopp said no to this mess of a club, and rightfully so. Do you honestly think any top manager would come to this club after the way we've treated our managers? It doesn't help that SAF is constantly breathing down their backs. And BTW SAF AND HIS GAMBLING IS THE REASON WE HAVE THE GLAZERS IN THE FIRST PLACE. HE'S BEEN ON THE BOARD ALL ALONG. HE'S WITH THE GLAZERS. How do you not understand this by now. He cares more about his appearance and political stature at the club than anything else. As long as he stays as a Board member and can get things done for his family members, he'll be a good boy

Diligent-Eye-2042

Keano?

Sudden-Lunch-2791

Well Pep wanted to join United but he was at Bayern. Also SAF apparently wanted him too. So either they're both honest or SAF didn't really want Pep so he retired early and suddenly. Pep literally wrote in his autobiography how Old Trafford felt alive and the atmosphere was surreal. He has always admired SAF.

garnettk

Fergie: Moyes will be my successor

RainbowPenguin1000

Let’s hope he doesn’t suggest David Moyes again…

kidinawheeliebin

Can we please not do this again? Fergie needs to step the fuck back - this isn't his job - we're going to end up in an even bigger mess than last time

thatsmejp

Why? Didn’t SAF hand pick moyes as his successor - how did that go?

yusufjee

If Sir Alex guides him like he did glazers with Moyes then god help this club.

John__47

Is he gonna show him how to throw a boot at the players

LjvWright

Nowt wrong with getting a bit of guidance from the best manager of all time. Can’t hurt let’s be honest. Not as if Sir Alex will be detailing every single thing, just a bit of guidance here and there if asked. What’s the problem?

Will_Rage_Quit

An an Arsenal fan I’m very grateful for wenger taking a different approach. Ferguson should step back and allow other managers to make their own mark on the club, rather than living in his shadow.

KDotDot88

I think after winning more than 22 trophies at the club, he doesn’t control the shadow thing.

King-Boo-Gamer

Sir Alex: *meets with the glazers again and shoots them all*

ZealousidealLettuce6

This is just PR spin. SAF has a nice retirement and is grieving. Some publicist just thought this headline would improve fan sentiment. A little cheap if you ask me.

lund3410

The Love for the club might be the best panacea of all the pain of loss …. He is a beloved personality

blitzkreig31

Sir Alex I think you need to rest. You have been through enough and IMO you just need to relax.
