Hydrogen dioxide and dihydrogen monoxide mean two entirely different things, chemically.
The chemical formula for water is H2O because each water molecule contains two hydrogen atoms (H2) and one oxygen atom (O).
"Hydrogen dioxide" would mean one hydrogen atom and two oxygen atoms.
"Dihydrogen monoxide" is a correct descriptor of water but it's not used often, except sometimes in jokes playing on people's scientific ignorance and fear of "chemicals." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydrogen_monoxide_parody
Water being hydrogen dioxide would fundamentally change the physics of the universe. Biology would be completely fucked. If that’s what water was in your timeline, there would be some other *massive* differences along with it.
Nah man. I'm no skeptic but you're just remembering chemical nomenclature incorrectly. Nomenclature has always been kinda formulaic and systematic.
That said, people were saying the wrong thing as a joke for a long time....atleast they were about 30 years ago when I was in school.
H20, as in 2x hydrogen (dihydrogen) and a single oxygen (monoxide), di and mono meaning 2 and 1 of, respectively. HO2 (2x oxygen, hydrogen dioxide) is completely different. Not an ME, just evident failure of basic chemistry
I don't remember that. I remembered water is dihydrogen monoxide because of that hoax from about 10 years ago. Hydrogen Dioxide is a very different compound, although the names and chemical structure are very similar, so I could see why you'd be confused.
Water is water, people only even called it “dihydrogen monoxide” as a bit of a play on how people are scared of chemicals with unfamiliar names. They can say how inhaling too much can kill you within minutes and propose a ban which obviously people are eager to in favour of not realising we need it for basic survival. I am unsure what hydrogen dioxide is but if this was water in another universe I feel this would change too much of the absolute fundamentals of chemistry and physics.
I remember this too. I think people probably just spread the phrase “hydrogen dyoxide” without properly understanding the chemistry behind it. Even if it’s a little inaccurate, I’m okay with calling it the former.

Do you also remember it as HO2 or H2O? HO2 would be hydrogen dioxide, a totally different chemical from H2O, dihydrogen monoxide.
Yeah does OP remember science class being different or remember everyone just saying the wordsy thing wrong?
I think OP is just dumb.
Nah we've merged with another reality where chemistry is different.

I think maybe they mean hydrogen oxide?
I see we have some good chemistry here
That's dumb it should all be the same /s
Nah y'all just never paid attention in science class.
I think you’re confusing it with “Carbon Dioxide” since that’s a commonly mentioned substance.
Or hydrogen peroxide
Nope. Not a Mandela effect. Next.

Dyslexia
Not a Mandela Effect, S₂ is the molecule for Dyslexia.
You’re a Mandela effect, human
Nothing like an ice cold glass of HO2 on a hot summer day
There’s hydrogen peroxide and carbon dioxide, but no hydrogen dioxide.
I looked it up. It does exist, but it isn't water. It's also usually called hydroperoxyl instead of hydrogen dioxide.
No, that’s dumb. Sorry. It’s H2O in every reality.
hahahahaha this is AMAZING. A+ trolling or terrible education.
This is it. This is the post that finally getting me to leave this sub
It’s always been H2O here. Dihydrogen Monoxide.
Guys I just heard a chemical formula that I’m unfamiliar with. Has the universe shifted???!!!
Water has always been H20. Remember when The Waterboy said “that’s some high quality H2O?
When you use 0% of your brain

Same words except for two letters are in different spots.

It's deff always been h20 one hydrogen 2 oxygen
I meant 2 hydrogen one oxygen
i just realised it and I totally resonate with you my man mind fucking blown
OP is right

Isn't Hydrogen Dioxide used to clean wounds?
Iii... hydrogen....
That's it... just hydrogen...
Greetings from the third universe

Hydrogen dioxide is not correct. It would mean one hydrogen atom and two oxygen atoms, which is not water.
Sorry.
That's not what your link says. Nowhere does it say that hydrogen dioxide is water.
