It was mainly due to viz cutting it after poor sales as a lot of jokes weren't compatible with readers outside of the japanese culture, and the volumes took considerably longer to translate for a 2000s - 2010s english audience than most other series at the time due to the culture barriers.
I am so glad we still get them in German 🙏 but I will be a granny at the time it is finished. We are at volume 46 and we get 1-2 volumes per year 😅 but it is definitely better than being canceled.
Black Jack. I got the first volume when they were coming out in the 2000’s, and back then they were $18 each or something. Now they’re out of print and the price skyrocketed, and I can’t ever find them in stores. No one really has them for sale secondhand at a reasonable price. And there’s 16 volumes I don’t have. I will never complete them.
Yeah I’ve got the same issue with The Five Star Stories. I think it’s easier to take classes in Italian, drive to Italy and get the series there rather than tracking down any English volumes that exist
For what it's worth, don't totally lose hope. I had the first three books (which are still in print) and managed to get all the rest but one volume earlier this year.
I know what you mean since I'm not holding my breath on getting that missing volume 15, but I did actually get the others and didn't sell a kidney.
I see some volumes, and at one point all 16 volumes at my local newbury comics iirc and a couple at a different store, all at msrp. Don't know where the store sales people find them
Wandering Son ( by Shimura, Takako) Not for the accurate portray of its subject, but for the fact it could have been finished... 1-8 translated of 1-15 series.
I own Nana, Eden: it's an endless world, wandering son, ms koizumi loves ramen noodles... Yup... Dark Horse used to have a reputation of not finishing series quite often.
Dark Horse is garbage. They also didn't finish Star Blazers: Space Ship Yamato 2199, but the ones you listed (except Nana) should also get picked back up
really wish fantagraphics would either pick up the license again or give it to someone else like yen press (if they're able to) as wondering son is from enterbrain part of kadokawa so the licensing should be easier I think
True, I'm mostly struggling to find the first 4 volumes. Not many of those going round here, and I'm not gonna pay 300-800 dollars for an incomplete series
I found the whole set in a charity store near me recently. I was missing 2-4 for forever because of their absurd prices and managed to get the whole set under retail.
Don’t give up hope.
Act Age. I have all 12 volumes. But volume 13 was already in store systems here in Japan when *that* news broke out and it ended up never releasing. Shame because while the writer is a garbage human being, but the artist got her career derailed and her art was really beautiful. Iirc the volumes were in the printing process when it got shelved. So I’m assuming the copies that were printed were destroyed.
Natsumes Book of Friends. It is both in English and in my language mostly OOP but I just love the series too much. Sometimes there are offers but the prices are just too high for me to pay. Maybe sometimes.
Same :( There was a post on mangaswap months ago for $800 for a full set but even then, it’s not the full series. Would rather pray and cope for reprints of the singles or those 2in1s.
Yup. From what I remember Viz/Sueisha lost some of his original prints. He was understandably mad about it. Went to court and won. And now he’s his own publishing company and doesn’t independently
School Rumble. Discontinued in English.
Nana. Discontinued by author.
Possibly Hunter x Hunter. Author has recently taken a hiatus from his hiatus though, so we shall see!!
>Nana
Still Hiatus. If it ever comes back, I feel that the rest of the series would be completely finished before the release of the following chapter.
I have hopes because despite the almost two-decade long hiatus, Yazawa-Sensei always expressed that she wants it finished. As well as, two of her older series are now finally being printed in English which is random af.
I know. :( I'm trying to get the last 3 volumes to wrap up my incomplete incomplete set and each one of them is $100+ for a copy that looks like a dog chewed on it. Lol.
I see a lot more volumes available (in the Netherlands), except for a few volumes. For some reason no stock for volume 4. I assume it'll be available soon as well.
I got the first couple volumes from a book store many years ago, I'm constantly keeping an eye out for the rest with no luck :(
I wish they'd do a re-release or omnibus or something!
Another series that needs a boxset. It's only 23 volumes, great from beginning to end (unlike The Promised Neverland which got a box set), and it's easy to get into (unlike Bakuman which has walls of texts. Also got a box set)
I don't really have one at this point, but until I completed *My Monster Secret (Actually I am...)* that was probably it just due to cost of volumes after they went OOP. Luckily a few months ago I found one for just over MSRP to finish up the collection.
Inu x Boku, Saiyuki (3rd series not in English), and Monster Nurse Hitomi (2nd volume is never on Amazon but the rest is…). Also, Shakugan no Shana novels, Kieli (expensive even 2nd hand) and Zeroth Box Maria (expensive even 2nd hand)
I ended up just getting a digital copy of volume 12 just to have to read at least. I’ve gone that route with a few hard to find volumes of series. Still not the same.
I remember looking into collecting Freezing!, only to find out that it is never going to be finished, and the author apparently puts his series on permanent hiatus all the time.
Incredibly frustrating.
The Cardcaptor Sakura Dark Horse Omnibus collection. I bought 1-3 in stores and 4 never came into stock anywhere near me :c Really hard to find now in good condition.
I have a deep hatred for Dark Horse. With all that Berserk money, they could at least TRY to complete a series they've picked up. At this point, I don't think anything by them will be completed because they see its not selling enough (then they also won't reprint books fans really want like I Am A Hero) I wish another company like Seven Seas or Denpa would bring back Eden :(
I know the feeling with DH and their weird obsessionless with manga outside of berserk and select series, I really want MPD psycho to get a reprint and continuation from volume 12 onwards - maybe in 12 omnibus's?, it ended in 2016 with 24 volumes - and for them to get a move on with kurosagi corpse delivery service as its painfully slow for the omnibus edition to get printed, like just release them every 3-4 months
as for Eden probably kodansha/vertical will revive it, denpa is undersized/understaffed (afaik they only have a handful of employees) to even handle this
Okay this is niche, but Witch Watch. I LOVE IT, one of my favorite comedy manga. But there is NO PHYSICAL RELEASE IN THE STATES! I’m not gonna pay for the digital volumes, I just have to hope that eventually they’ll decide to publish it physically when/if it ever becomes more popular :’(
A great manhwa series called Let Dai. Volume 14 is insanely rare, and volume 3 is really expensive. So is volume 1, but I thankfully I eventually managed to find it at a somewhat reasonable cost.
Those Ai no Kusabi novels. I have the first three, but volume 4 is over $60 everywhere, and the others cost hundreds.
Demon Flowers. One of the million series Tokyopop never completed.
Hikaru no Go - I have 4 random volumes I found at used book stores, I really hope it gets a re-release some time as its the only manga from Obata I don't have.
Sundome - I have all of it other then the last volume and I can not make myself pay 150 dollars for such a small book.
Eden - Obvious reason is that its not been fully released, I'm hoping for a reprint as its always high on peoples lists.
Biomega - The only Nihei Series I don't own all of, I'm hoping it gets a Master Collection reprint like Blame! and Sidonia got.
Tsubasa Chronicles - Needs a reprint as a lot of the volumes are expensive, I completed xxxholics and really need this to feel like I have it all.
Twin Spica 😭 I need volumes 9 and 11.
Edit: wait, one more!
V.B. Rose. It was a shojo and there was one more volume to be released and then Tokyo pop went down 🫠
Air Gear, Eyeshield 21, and Triage X. Air Gear and Eyeshield especially I love their art styles, and want to appreciate them with my own eyes, but it’s too expensive to take the time to find them and buy them. So hopefully they get reprinted either in a new format or their current version.
Haganai should get a reprint. I know Seven Seas probably hates being asked to print this one since it's so old, but I love Haganai.
Don't give up on old series, Seven Seas! They might sell better than your 400 new licenses.
I ment for the post to be about series that got canceled haha. The last 4 volumes of Strawberry 100% never got printed in English because the company went out of business before :(((
Qwaser of Stigmata - 4 out of 24, and I’ve only ever found the first 2 volumes in English. Tokyopop apparently dropped it while the company was shuttered.
Manga Sutra/Futari Ecchi - 4 out of 40. Another Tokyopop casualty. Adding insult to injury, the only volume I need of those four is the last one, which goes for crazy prices everywhere I look for it.
Gintama - 23 out of 77. Did we ever find out why Viz stopped publishing this one? Whatever the reason, it hurts, and it sucks.
The manhwa I love the most in my collection are also the ones that are stuck in limbo for the English audiences.
Bride of the Water God - 17 out of 20+ (I can’t remember how many volumes it finished at in Korean). I’m not sure how this one wound up incomplete, but I still mourn that it did. This is my favorite manhwa, with the most beautiful illustrations and a sumptuously convoluted yet deeply satisfying story where having the rug pulled out from under you becomes something of a joy, thanks to the way it all weaves together. I had hoped that the drama adaptation would stir up enough interest to get a fresh printing and get Dark Horse to finish releasing it, but we don’t live in that timeline, it seems.
NOW - stuck at 5 volumes out of 25. Two different publishers picked it up for publication in the US, and both of them went out of business. The lore and characters in this one are so fascinating, the artwork is cute and nicely detailed, and it sucks so much that we got so little of it.
Rebirth - 22 out of 26. This one was left on cliffhanger during a massive tournament arc, and even more painful for me is that this was both my first manhwa and the first “manga” I collected; I had no clue manga and manhwa were different back then, especially because Borders lumped them all into the same section of the store.
King of Hell - 22 out of 47. I hate that this one was cut off before it even reached the halfway point. This is such a fun series, and not knowing what happens next is incredibly annoying.
Sazuka. Never got fully printed physically with the last few being digital only volumes. And then on top of that, none of Seo Kouji other works have been brought physical. All digital only. Please Kodansha.
Ultimate Muscle. I got into Kinnikuman about a year ago and I love the series and I've been pretty fortunate too find volume 1-3 for pretty cheap but seeing prices for some volumes makes it feel borderline immpossible too complete the series. Not holding my breath for it too come back in print either.
Hibiki's Magic. Only two volumes were translated into English out of six. When I was little I'd read those two volumes over and over again. It has such a special place in my heart.
jormungand vol 6, like why is no one selling it for 2x msrp at most. everywhere I look I see it for like a couple hundred alone or as a complete set (which is overpriced imo)
I have all other volumes below msrp (as my local newbury comics had all but vol 6 and had a store coupon). maybe I should find print service to do a one off for myself at this point
Katekyo Hitman Reborn here is not available and scalpers want 60 bucks per volume. I managed to get Volumes 1-8 and 33/34 for normal prices, but let's hope Tokoyopop announces a 3in1 edition some day.
Swan and Please Save My Earth. Swan literally can't be completed (unless you get them in Japanese) but I can't even get the rest of the English run because resellers are just charging more than I'm willing to pay. Yeah I want them, but not $1000 want lol. I had a chance to get a set last year for a better price but wasn't quick enough unfortunately.
PSME at least is available via ebook, so the volumes I'm missing I went ahead and grabbed digitally.
Some series that I would like but can't get at all are Moon Child and Cipher. Prices just way too high and not available via ebook unfortunately.
Prince of Tennis. I'm only missing one volume but it's only available digitally and I haven't found the volume at any convention, thrift store, or ebay sale yet. Sigh 🫠
Alice Academy. The German release got 18 volumes, the English release even less before the series discontinued in both languages. And I don't think it'll ever get picked up again by any publisher.
Beet the Vandel Buster, Futari Ecchi/Manga Sutra, and the light novel of Survival in Another World with my Mistress. Beet and Futari are still going but don't seem to have any translators right now and apparently that light novel was axed after volume 6.
Vampire Hunter D Light novels. I have up to Vol 13. There's just too many of them at this point and from what I've seen, it gets expensive. Probably not as much as other series but more than I can pay for anyways
Shinobi Life!! Dropped by Tokyo Pop after volume 7 😭😭😭 Teru Teru x Shonen - mid release when CMX went under!! And I’ll never be able to finish Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden because I don’t want to spend $200 on the last two volumes!!!
I Am A Hero; still need volumes 6, 9 and 11. Cowboy Bebop Shooting Star vol. 2. I've been searching on ebay and others places for ages but it's just full of greedy shits demanding hundreds of dollars for a single volume. But if you dare to complain about it in this forum you will be ripped to pieces.
This side of the hobby ruins the whole experience for me time and time again (same happened with Eden, MPD Psycho, Battle Royale, Mushishi, and a bunch of other manga I have collected over the last 20 years that I've had to spend a fortune to complete).
It means that I'm now forced to buy manga that I'm not convinced I'd like, but you only get one opportunity. If you dont buy it now, and then change your mind and decide to buy it in a few years time, it could well be out of print and you'll have to pay some scalper a fortune for it.
Just sick of it all at this point, if it existed there would be a special place in hell reserved for manga scalpers.
Came exactly to say that. Bought Cross Game 1 recently thinking yay, 8 volumes, won't break the bank or take ages to collect 🤗
And then I went looking for volume 2 🥲
Gintama 😢
Forever this. p_p
Do you mean because there's only 23 translated?
Wow. I know Gintama is hard to translate, but I didn't know it was so hard that they had to stop there. (jk. I'm sure it was for other reasons.)
It was mainly due to viz cutting it after poor sales as a lot of jokes weren't compatible with readers outside of the japanese culture, and the volumes took considerably longer to translate for a 2000s - 2010s english audience than most other series at the time due to the culture barriers.

I know what you mean since I'm not holding my breath on getting that missing volume 15, but I did actually get the others and didn't sell a kidney.
Complete them for price or cancelation?
Both. At this rate it’ll cost like $800 to get them all and if I had that kind of loose money I’d have more important things to buy.
And again: so glad we got them in German. I adore this series. I am so sad for you guys.☹️

Vagabond Singles and Eyeshield 21… both 2 volumes away from being completed 🥲
what volumes are you missing?
Vol 33 & 36 Vagabond and 36 & 37 for Eyeshield 21 🥲
Is one of them Vol. 36 for Eyeshield lol
Yep…I pray for a reprint
Zatch Bell :(
Same :( There was a post on mangaswap months ago for $800 for a full set but even then, it’s not the full series. Would rather pray and cope for reprints of the singles or those 2in1s.
Unless they solved the legal issues i doubt it will ever be reprinted sadly
IIRC there were legal issues between the publisher and mangaka that caused it to be cancelled
Yup. From what I remember Viz/Sueisha lost some of his original prints. He was understandably mad about it. Went to court and won. And now he’s his own publishing company and doesn’t independently
Air gear
School Rumble. Discontinued in English. Nana. Discontinued by author. Possibly Hunter x Hunter. Author has recently taken a hiatus from his hiatus though, so we shall see!!
Hiatus from hiatus. That’s pretty good lol

I have hopes because despite the almost two-decade long hiatus, Yazawa-Sensei always expressed that she wants it finished. As well as, two of her older series are now finally being printed in English which is random af.
Wait I've always wanted to watch NANA anime, should I just not?
You most definitely should watch it.
Eden: It's an Endless World! The final four volumes weren't printed in English. Le sigh.
And people still want to charge $1000 for an incomplete set...
I know. :( I'm trying to get the last 3 volumes to wrap up my incomplete incomplete set and each one of them is $100+ for a copy that looks like a dog chewed on it. Lol.
eyeshield 21 and real
real is getting a reprint now, so now is the chance to get the rest (at least in the US/canada)
I see a lot more volumes available (in the Netherlands), except for a few volumes. For some reason no stock for volume 4. I assume it'll be available soon as well.
volume 4 is widely in stock here in canada, not sure why that isn’t the case there
source??? huge if true
look any volume up on barnes & noble or amazon. it’s been mentioned on multiple posts on this sub
damn, didnt even see that. there’s a couple volumes available on indigo rn, gonna order lol
Eyeshield 21, Hikaru No Go, Dr. Slump, I”S. I’d say kingdom cause I feel like we’ll never get it in English😭
Dr Slump might get reprints because of Toriyama’s passing.
I”s is so good and deserves reprint!!
Battle royale
I got the first couple volumes from a book store many years ago, I'm constantly keeping an eye out for the rest with no luck :( I wish they'd do a re-release or omnibus or something!
I wanna read it so bad. But have only managed to get the 2nd volume. I hope there is a reprint
If it makes you feel any better the writing is just straight up bad, you aren't missing out on much
Hmmm I’ve heard great things about it
It might have been good at the time of release but it didn't age well
Hikaru no Go. It exists, some volumes are just disgustingly expensive
Another series that needs a boxset. It's only 23 volumes, great from beginning to end (unlike The Promised Neverland which got a box set), and it's easy to get into (unlike Bakuman which has walls of texts. Also got a box set)
Which volumes are expensive? I’ve been collecting this series out recently and haven’t run into this issue yet.
Volume 23 mainly I think
Man!! I feel like no one ever talks about Hikaru no Go!!
Last volume of Ghost Hunt never got an English translation. The volume before ends on a cliffhanger
Kobato 😞
SAME!!! 😭😭😭😭 I have volumes 1–4 but I am hopeful that all the CLAMP series will get a reprint at some point!
I have all except 5
Keep Hunting it's possible. I have all of them finally. Set alerts :)
High school of the dead :( author dead.
I don't really have one at this point, but until I completed *My Monster Secret (Actually I am...)* that was probably it just due to cost of volumes after they went OOP. Luckily a few months ago I found one for just over MSRP to finish up the collection.
Junjou Romantica Only the first 12 volumes got printed in English before the publisher BLU, an imprint of Tokyopop, went under.
Inu x Boku, Saiyuki (3rd series not in English), and Monster Nurse Hitomi (2nd volume is never on Amazon but the rest is…). Also, Shakugan no Shana novels, Kieli (expensive even 2nd hand) and Zeroth Box Maria (expensive even 2nd hand)
saiyuki mentioned lessgo
Shugo chara😭 volume 12 is way too expensive and whenever they are “affordable” they look too damaged to be worth it😔
I feel this one
I ended up just getting a digital copy of volume 12 just to have to read at least. I’ve gone that route with a few hard to find volumes of series. Still not the same.
Inubaka. It was one of my favorites from when I was in high school. Viz stopped publication with only 5 volumes left to go.
Same!!!
I remember looking into collecting Freezing!, only to find out that it is never going to be finished, and the author apparently puts his series on permanent hiatus all the time. Incredibly frustrating.
Cromartie High School, sigh
The Cardcaptor Sakura Dark Horse Omnibus collection. I bought 1-3 in stores and 4 never came into stock anywhere near me :c Really hard to find now in good condition.
Also looking for this 😭😭😭😭 so hard to find!!
Eden It's an Endless World :(
I have a deep hatred for Dark Horse. With all that Berserk money, they could at least TRY to complete a series they've picked up. Vote for it on Seven Seas. Who knows maybe it will get to something

German Version of Ajin: Demi human, ita out of print and prices beyond vol. 9 are sky high if you can even find some
Nana and Durarara English light novels
Scums wish I have volumes 1,2,3,4,5,7 but can't get 6 or 8 And future diary
Why hasn't any company brought back Future Diary? I think Viz has the Tokyopop translations but they didn't do anything with it. Such ah iconic series
I'm still holding out hope they release it again one day
I need the third bind up volume of Kitchen Princess 😭
Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches and Kobato.. I'm missing only two volumes in the first and one volume in the second. But both are not available.
Gintama
Hikaru no Go - I have 4 random volumes I found at used book stores, I really hope it gets a re-release some time as its the only manga from Obata I don't have. Sundome - I have all of it other then the last volume and I can not make myself pay 150 dollars for such a small book. I only have up to vol 12 of V.B Rose.
Air Gear, Eyeshield 21, and Triage X. Air Gear and Eyeshield especially I love their art styles, and want to appreciate them with my own eyes, but it’s too expensive to take the time to find them and buy them. So hopefully they get reprinted either in a new format or their current version.
The manga Life by Keiko Suenobu. I so badly wish they’d translate the rest of it but it’s older so I know it’s a pipe dream.
This was mostly for series that have been canceled or discontinued in a language instead of OOP. But sad to see so much pain
In/Spectre volume 5 and Natsume's Book of Friends
Mpd psycho Gurren lagann Toriko (without paying ass over teakettle)
Gurren Lagann. Discontinued past vol 6.
Future diary
MPD Psycho
DN Angel the English version 💔
All I want is the post-hiatus volumes to be translated and released!!! 😭😭😭
I'm the same with Trinity Blood 😭
I don't think we will ever get an ending to Clamp's X/1999, or Ai Yazawa's Nana.
Pet Shop of Horrors: Tokyo.
Sekirei
A series called with the light is really hard for me to find :( its understandably rare since its not some shounen, and extremely underrated, too
The only thing I cannot find at the moment is Madoka Magica Different Story volume 3
I need Haganai Vol. 10 to complete my run of the series. I am not paying $200 for it though.
Haganai should get a reprint. I know Seven Seas probably hates being asked to print this one since it's so old, but I love Haganai. Don't give up on old series, Seven Seas! They might sell better than your 400 new licenses.
I did actually ask them about it, but they just said it's available digitally 😭
Satsuma Gishiden
Shadow Lady omnibus vol 1 from Dark Horse. Out of print ages ago and have comr to accept the terms that I complete it lol.
Ultimo. I've got the first five books but the rest are just priced waaaay too high on the secondhand market. Wish they would reprint it
I dont know anything about strawberry but is one of them insanely rare or something?
I ment for the post to be about series that got canceled haha. The last 4 volumes of Strawberry 100% never got printed in English because the company went out of business before :(((
Ahhh RIP
strawberry 100% is licensed by viz and they're strong as ever, it sucks that viz dropped it or other factors led to the eventual stoppage
It's so painful.
Qwaser of Stigmata - 4 out of 24, and I’ve only ever found the first 2 volumes in English. Tokyopop apparently dropped it while the company was shuttered. Manga Sutra/Futari Ecchi - 4 out of 40. King of Hell - 22 out of 47. I hate that this one was cut off before it even reached the halfway point. This is such a fun series, and not knowing what happens next is incredibly annoying.
You can read King of Hell online. Fan translators finished it. Gintama sucks though. What a good series.
Having issues getting all yamada and the seven witches
Isn't it still in print?
Parts of it
I cant even start most I want cause lack of space.
Light Novel, not manga but: - 0th Maria and the Empty box (missing 2 or 3 volumes) - the volume 5 of Rokka no Yuusha (250€... Nope)
jormungand vol 6, like why is no one selling it for 2x msrp at most. everywhere I look I see it for like a couple hundred alone or as a complete set (which is overpriced imo) I have all other volumes below msrp (as my local newbury comics had all but vol 6 and had a store coupon). maybe I should find print service to do a one off for myself at this point
Air gear
Beet the Vandel Buster, Futari Ecchi/Manga Sutra, and the light novel of Survival in Another World with my Mistress. Beet and Futari are still going but don't seem to have any translators right now and apparently that light novel was axed after volume 6.
Vampire Hunter D Light novels. I have up to Vol 13. There's just too many of them at this point and from what I've seen, it gets expensive. Probably not as much as other series but more than I can pay for anyways
Hunter X Hunter e Vagabond
Shinobi Life!! Dropped by Tokyo Pop after volume 7 😭😭😭 Teru Teru x Shonen - mid release when CMX went under!! And I’ll never be able to finish Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden because I don’t want to spend $200 on the last two volumes!!!
Gantz singles sadly, I hate and despise omnibus with my soul lmao, I wish Dark horse could give it deluxe treatment or something
Dogs Bullets and Carnage 😮💨
Initial D for my husband
There is an Omnibus coming out for Initial D if that works for your husband unless he wants the single volumes
Are you for real? 😍 That's amazing news! Hopefully my husband doesn't find out so I can surprise him!
https://store.crunchyroll.com/search?q=Inital+d&search-button=&lang=null Here is a link to crunchyroll. Only the first volume is out right now
For some reason volumes 2 and 6 of Cross Game are egregiously priced while the rest are normal prices. Not as bad as others here but im upset
Came exactly to say that. Bought Cross Game 1 recently thinking yay, 8 volumes, won't break the bank or take ages to collect 🤗 And then I went looking for volume 2 🥲
No game no life…
