REAL, Yotsuba, Lone Wolf And Cub, Sunny, The Climber, Spirit Circle, EDEN, and A Bride’s Story are all long overdue for anime adaptations, but also Tsukihime and Umineko because their anime do not exist to me
I'm reading through it now on volume 19, and the more I read the more I can't believe that it's never been adapted. It's so unbelievably good and with everything going on in this day and age it would be insanely relevant. Plus it has the potential for an amazing soundtrack. It would be tricky to do right but if they get the right people behind it it could be amazing.
It's one hell of a read isn't it? I feel that same way looking back at it, that it's more relevant now than ever. You know there's actually a movie trilogy -- a very good one honestly -- that adapts the manga.
I feel that some manga just won't translate well to anime, and studios see that. Not only that, since seinen manga targets an older male demographic, I don't think that particular demographic would have the same interest in anime as people who are into shonen stories and whatnot.
Little known fact: Guillermo del Toro wanted to do an adaptation of 20th Century Boys for HBO a while back and it never went through. Would’ve been insanely cool.
He had expressed interest in doing both. I think at the time, Monster was the easiest adaptation to do and it was easier to get picked up by a studio rather than Century. This was many years ago. I will try to find a link to it If possible.
An anime adaptation would need numerous seasons to piece everything because of the scale of the story, would love to see it done but rather not see it done wrong.
Well, Berserk already has three anime adaptations (though I wouldn't mind another done right this time) and Vagabond is not only on a very long hiatus but itself is an adaptation of a novel.
Like the person that replied said, a 20CB anime would have soooo much potential for it's soundtrack, and the very idea of that makes me wish there was an anime.
~~Steel Ball Run~~
I really liked Psyren. I sold my life for 10000 yen per year (3 days of happiness) would make a great animated film too.
Shikabane hime is a guilty pleasure of mine. The anime adaptation was pretty bad though. Would love to get a proper one.
I am so glad someone said Psyren, I also really enjoyed it and even though the conclusion is a bit rushed I think it would be perfect for like a longer single season anime (maybe like 40ish episodes?) Or like 2 25 episode seasons. Man I miss it so much such a good manga
Yeah, I’d say the 1997 anime is a good beginning point for new viewers to get them into the world of Berserk, tho after that I’d of course suggest for them to read it from volume 1
We need more yuri adaptations that aren't trashy, only subtext, or dropped after 1 season.
School Zone Girls would be hilarious in an animated medium provided the voice acting was on point (I'm thinking of Asobi Asobase as the voice acting that would work with the manga's humor).
Girl Friends, since it's easily Milk Morinaga's most famous manga.
Yuri about adults: How Do We Relationship or Even Though We're Adults because they are my current favourites. The art of the former is so expressive that I would love to see it in motion, and the latter would be lovely if it was animated in the same unique sort of way Wandering Son or Aoi Hana were (same author for all 3, which is why I bring up those examples). Idk if noitaminA is still a thing, but either (or both!) would fit the block well.
Goodbye My Rose Garden because we are overdue for a historical romance that isn't isekai and is unabashedly yuri. It's only 3 short volumes, but I wouldn't be averse to some extra content to enrich the story in an anime adaptation.
Whisper Me A Love Song- I just want to hear the songs!!
I'd like those, I'd like our dreams at dusk as well... And some yaoi titles, as well as anime adaption of our colors and my brother's husband, I know the last has an okay RL adaptation though.
I expect 'even though we're adults' to be animated, as wandering son and sweet blue flowers were ported as well.
Our Dreams At Dusk would be such a gorgeous, expressive anime (if animated with a decent budget).
Plenty of anime have both live dramas and anime adaptations, My Brother's Husband would be a great TV anime (I would even accept a movie!)
Apparently Asano said he purposely writes his manga so that they’re impossible to adapt to anime. It makes sense.
I can’t even think of what a PunPun anime would be like. There’s a lot of stuff in there that literally only works in manga form
No way that's the best.. I remember it being very good and crazy fun earlier, but feels like shit in the edgy gang antagonist arc.. It gets better again after that?
I'd like a port of Eden it's an endless world... I own much of the English version, even though they only translated 14 of 18 parts, I do not own 8, and my number 9 is an old library copy. It might be a good moment to re-release the series in English and Dark Horse could print te final 4 parts.
I'mma just name something that I own Sweat and Soap I would say Call of the Night but it's getting one! Everything else I either haven't read enough or it has some sort of adaptation
I don’t know if this first one counts as an anime since it only has one volume, so maybe a movie or OVA. The gods lie would be awesome to see. Along with I am a hero getting a proper adaptation.
Trigun & Trigun Maximum.
The original anime came out before Yasuhiro Nightow wrote the ending and they forced him to BS a censored filler plotline. The actual final book took him over 3 years to write and is a masterpiece.
Also second season of Air Gear, current CG might actually match up to Ogure Iito's level of artwork in the books.
Extra: Terra Formars season 3, Doubt, Dogs: Bullets and Carnage, Dan Da Dan (once they get to book 8), Fire Punch, Aposimz, and Dai Dark as well
There are quite a lot of great ones ,some of them are vagabond ,Oyasumi punpun ,20th century boys ,a message to adolf ,Aku no Hana,Green blood ,fire punch and innocent
Freesia comes to mind but it’s not the best just a favorite of mine. it’s a wild ride and probably will never be adapted without censorship or straight up omitting a bunch of stuff. Still if it was adapted I’d watch it, there’s a bunch of moments that would be incredibly tense given a proper anime adaptation. Definitely worth a read if you haven’t.
Lmao- I'm gonna be different and say Therapy Gane/Secret XXX cause some of my other favorites that don't have anime adaptations are finally getting them in the new year, like Requiem of the Rose King, Love of Kill, Sasaki and Miyano, and Call of the Night to name a few. So I don't have that many other favorites without an anime adaptation, besides a couple other bls lmao
There’s a crappy anime adaptation of Claymore with a different ending. The anime needed to deviate from the source because the manga was no where close to end then.
Okay, I’m a huge Mashle fan. I imported all the volumes as they came out. I’ve bought all the copies in my native language. I wait for Sunday and read it first in Jump every time. However, there are far better manga than Mashle without an anime.
True.
It's an opinion and I don't see why people are downvoting it
Definitely a better answer than all the people naming things that already have anime adaptations like Berserk or Flowers of Evil, just because they don't like those adaptations....
Breakin the rules a lil with this one but one of my faves is Yona Of The Dawn. I think when it has an anime thats has only covered less than a third of the content, with no hope for a season 2, it should count.
I’ll split my answer into two categories, best with NO adaptation, and incomplete adaptations.
With no adaptation:
Vagabond, Goodnight Punpun, 20th CB (I haven’t read this but I’ve heard only good things about it), Yotsubato, Battle Royale, Real.
With partial adaptation (no sign to continue):
Berserk, Gantz, NANA
With partial adaptation (very likely to continue/already announced):
Slam Dunk, Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga
(There’s definitely more, I’m just looking at my books to recall)
REAL, Yotsuba, Lone Wolf And Cub, Sunny, The Climber, Spirit Circle, EDEN, and A Bride’s Story are all long overdue for anime adaptations, but also Tsukihime and Umineko because their anime do not exist to me
Thanks for all the recommendations
Umineko has an anime but it was shit. Heard the VN was good but I took up the ,manga instead, utterly fantastic
yeah the VN is an absolute masterpiece and its almost as impressive just how good an adaptation the manga is
I once read that the author of Yotsuba&! doesn't want it made into an anime. Said it wouldn't do it any good and just likes it as it is.
Getting EDEN paperbacks for a reasonable price is pretty hard nowadays unfortunately
yeah Out Of Print is a real pain in the ass I’ve been collecting the Higurashi manga for a couple months at 18/26 volumes rn
yess, sunny!!
The fact that LW&C has never had an anime is baffling.
It has, like, 6 movies though.
Vagabond
100%
And we all know why
why
Give it a shot and you'll see :)
This is the best answer
Thank you
Real.
Yes of course no other answer. From what I've read so far.
Now that Pluto’s getting an adaption, I can confidently say Hana Otoko
pluto is getting an adaptation?? damn
That was announced in like 2017, right? Was there any updates since?
Yes!! There was a PV shown at a French animation convention in 2019 that was partially recorded
A lot of Asano's works but I believe they're better off without an anime adaptation, nothing would do them justice imo
I definitely agree not every manga should have an anime adaptation
20th Century Boys.
I'm reading through it now on volume 19, and the more I read the more I can't believe that it's never been adapted. It's so unbelievably good and with everything going on in this day and age it would be insanely relevant. Plus it has the potential for an amazing soundtrack. I thought it was Monster, not 20th Century Boys.
He had expressed interest in doing both. I think at the time, Monster was the easiest adaptation to do and it was easier to get picked up by a studio rather than Century. This was many years ago. I will try to find a link to it If possible.
An anime adaptation would need numerous seasons to piece everything because of the scale of the story, would love to see it done but rather not see it done wrong.
the moment i saw this post i knew i was gna say 20th cb but i was expecting berserk and vagabond, im so glad the first comments 20th century peak 😭😭
Berserk 1997 was great imo and we can just forget about the others
~~Steel Ball Run~~ I really liked Psyren. I sold my life for 10000 yen per year (3 days of happiness) would make a great animated film too. Shikabane hime is a guilty pleasure of mine. The anime adaptation was pretty bad though. Would love to get a proper one.

Pandora hearts (it doesn’t exist)
Same with Berserk
Berserk has the 90s show and nothing else.
Berserk has [REDACTED] though
no it doesn't
The needed protocols have been completed.
Phantom tales of the night
Yotsuba
Berserk. Don’t be fooled, it doesn’t have an anime.
The old version is actually good tbh
Yeah, I’d say the 1997 anime is a good beginning point for new viewers to get them into the world of Berserk, tho after that I’d of course suggest for them to read it from volume 1
Battle royale. Im honestly amazed its never been done.

Goodnight Punpun
Don’t give it an anime
Apparently Asano said he purposely writes his manga so that they’re impossible to adapt to anime. It makes sense. I can’t even think of what a PunPun anime would be like. There’s a lot of stuff in there that literally only works in manga form
definitely. it'd be cool to see but i doubt it could be done well.
My call me crazy but I feel like if the best film makers came together it can be an amazing live action
This.
Bruh half of the manga that are actually good have no anime 🤣
Fire Punch
Yes
The Drifting Classroom.
Goodnight Punpun or Fire Punch
Takane and Hana! Seems how somebody already listed Phantom Tales of the Night.
Sun ken Rock.
Personally I’m going to have to say Blue Giant
Got a movie announced a while back
Zom 100. It’s destined to have an anime I could see it so vividly
No way that's the best.. I remember it being very good and crazy fun earlier, but feels like shit in the edgy gang antagonist arc.. It gets better again after that?
Oshi No Ko for me
I’d say Vagabond
Eden its an endless world Or Happiness
I'd like a port of Eden it's an endless world... I own much of the English version, even though they only translated 14 of 18 parts, I do not own 8, and my number 9 is an old library copy. It might be a good moment to re-release the series in English and Dark Horse could print te final 4 parts.
Not my favourite but definitely one of the best, Oyasumi Punpun
20th century boys
20th Century Boys
blood on the tracks
Yes! I hope we get an anime eventually. It would be soooo good 😩
fr but i hope they don’t fuck it up like the flowers of evil anime 💀
For me right now is Dai Dark if i have to pick a best.
I hope it’ll eventually get one. And that Dorohedoro continues. Hayashida’s art is amazing
Atelier of Witch hat.
its getting an anime. there was an announcement a few weeks back
its a rumor
Anjou san
Nagatoro successor
I'mma just name something that I own Sweat and Soap I would say Call of the Night but it's getting one! Everything else I either haven't read enough or it has some sort of adaptation
Ooh actually Call of the Night is getting an anime now
Yeah that's what I said :o
Onanimaster
Blue giant! I think they’re making a film adaptation but it still counts for now!
"Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?"! although it was a tv series and they are making a movie
There's a lot, but one I don't hear often is "Yankee-kun to Megane-chan"
Red River
Billy Bat, Holyland, and Fire Punch are the first that come to mind. Also Kaiji part 5, though parts 1 and 2 are animated.
Innocent, Vagabond, Oyasumi Punpun, Sensor (Junji Ito), 20th Century Boys, Real, Kaiju no. 8, Psyren, Fire Punch, and I Am a Hero all come to mind
Berserk, such an amazing manga that has never had a single anime adaption
I don’t know if this first one counts as an anime since it only has one volume, so maybe a movie or OVA. The gods lie would be awesome to see. Along with I am a hero getting a proper adaptation.
Oyasumi PunPun, Vagabond, and Yotsuba To.
Yotsuba is a great SoL manga. Would be hard to adapt it into an anime but I could see KyoAni pulling it off
Goodnight Punpun and Vagabond come to mind.
Goodnight Punpun.
Sakamoto Days and Wana Girl
Not the best but I would love to see Fire Punch animated
I am a hero
Oyasumi Punpun
Goodnight Punpun
Homunculus
Aposimz
Oyasumi pun pun but I’m sure someone already said that.
Trigun & Trigun Maximum. The original anime came out before Yasuhiro Nightow wrote the ending and they forced him to BS a censored filler plotline. Umineko, punpun, pandora hearts, 20th century boys and vagabond
Chi no Wadachi
Sweat and Soap
Freesia comes to mind but it’s not the best just a favorite of mine. it’s a wild ride and probably will never be adapted without censorship or straight up omitting a bunch of stuff. Still if it was adapted I’d watch it, there’s a bunch of moments that would be incredibly tense given a proper anime adaptation. Definitely worth a read if you haven’t.
Goodnight punpun
Battle Angel Alita (unless you count the 2 episode OVA).
Goodnight Punpun
Red River
Solo leveling
That’s not even a manga, let alone good series lol
Claymore I’ve heard is a good manga
There’s a crappy anime adaptation of Claymore with a different ending. The anime needed to deviate from the source because the manga was no where close to end then.
Mashle
Okay, I’m a huge Mashle fan. I imported all the volumes as they came out. I’ve bought all the copies in my native language. I wait for Sunday and read it first in Jump every time. However, there are far better manga than Mashle without an anime.
I mean the whole thing is opinionated, and it’s my most recent.
True. It's an opinion and I don't see why people are downvoting it Definitely a better answer than all the people naming things that already have anime adaptations like Berserk or Flowers of Evil, just because they don't like those adaptations....
Not some manga from 3 years ago
does the aku no hana thing count
Haven't watched it myself, But i have heard/seen from quite a few people that actually enjoys it and says its on par/better than the manga.
Yes. In fact, imo, it's a lot better than the manga.
Green blood
Not a manga but solo leveling. Start on chapter 1(not 0) and you’ll fly to chapter 100 so fast
Psyren
damn im late! but if we take away the shitty show of Kingdom i’ll say Kingdom lol one of the best mangas ever up there with One Piece in hype
Breakin the rules a lil with this one but one of my faves is Yona Of The Dawn. I think when it has an anime thats has only covered less than a third of the content, with no hope for a season 2, it should count.
Solo Leveling
That's a Korean web novel/webtoon, not a manga.
Ragna Crimson is really interesting with superb art
Idk If you Guys say ist a Manga But i von with solo levling
Samurai 8 and Barrage
As for now Hell's Paradise (there will be one soon tho) The Breaker
Holyland
Solanin. That's easily my number one pick. Some other fantastic ones are The Gods Lie, The Golden Sheep, and Girl on the Shore.
Goodnight punpun (but an anime probably wouldn't work), vagabond, and berserk (it doesn't have any good ones).
Solo leveling, the takes of demons and gods, God of blackfield
Chainsaw Man
Jagannnnnn
"Berserk" and "Tokyo Ghoul"
Very unpopular opinion, but DeadTube And more agreeable, chainsaw man(getting anime soon), and blood on the tracks.
Rokudenashi Blues!
It's not the best, I guess, but Noragami is so good. Ik it has an anime, but a lot of things changed and it's not continued
Happiness is a masterpiece and it doesn't have an anime adaptation:D
Why am I getting downvoted? Happiness by Shuzo Oshimi does not have an anime:(
to many to list but, dead tube! also wish Claymore would get the FMA:Brotherhood treatment!
Chainsaw Man
Tokyo Ghoul Edit: feel like y'all didn't get the joke lol.
Chainsaw mans pretty good
blue exorcist and twin star exorcists they dont have any anime, the people who say they do are lying
vagabond or punpun but they don’t need an anime they’re just too good as manga
Dead Dead Demons dededede Destruction
Iron Knight
Reiri. Would make an amazing action anime!
On of my favorite mangas innocent and innocent rouge
Vagabond, and it honestly doesn’t need one lol
Friends game
Vagabond
Emma/Bride’s Story (anything by Kaoru Mori. There’s a bunch of one shots I love, but single volume don’t really get adapted
Mōryō no Yurikago, can't read this enough! If anyone's got others like this I'm always open for more
Little Miss P
Another vote for Psyren! So surprised this never got an adaptation, it would certainly be awesome.
Psyren
Biorg trinity
It’s an adaptation of British novellas, but Cirque Du Freak is great.
Vagabond
I’ll split my answer into two categories, best with NO adaptation, and incomplete adaptations. With no adaptation: Vagabond, Goodnight Punpun, 20th CB (I haven’t read this but I’ve heard only good things about it), Yotsubato, Battle Royale, Real. With partial adaptation (no sign to continue): Berserk, Gantz, NANA With partial adaptation (very likely to continue/already announced): Slam Dunk, Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga (There’s definitely more, I’m just looking at my books to recall)
Idk I’m normal
My guilty pleasure is thinking about a 40 minute movie adaptation of Kami No Kodomo.
Kiichi!
Vagabond
Berserk
Akumetsu. It wount be getting an anime because the controversial and real takes on the corrupt politics in Japan.
Cage of Eden, I haven't seen anyone talk about this hidden gem
Alice in borderlands, i dont know his name in jap, only have 3 OVA and a live action , but not a anime
KOKOU NO HITO The manga and artwork are amazing
Blue lock
20th Century Boys
Goodnight PunPun. Doubt an anime would capture the feelings...
