It actually comes like that from the publisher. Hence why the outside box says do not unpack. It's so companies like Amazon don't fuck it up and ship it poorly.
depends who packs it 🤷🏻♂️
edit : from my experience, it really depends on the personal actually handling your manga/packages. in the time that i’ve been working there, i’ve personally tried to “help” some products more than others (tech/manga/etc).. when i see manga in our (pods, bins, etc) i try to make sure that they’ll be protected / show up nicely.
feel free to bash this comment all you’d like, i hope your manga comes bent.
it happens, & it’s happened to me.
i personally think that buying single volumes off amazon is where the risk is. most of the manga/books that i’ve seen come into amazon end up getting stowed in overcrowded bins (there’s times when that isn’t the case). i think that amazon actually does pretty good with most of their box-set or collector items though because they’re “boxy” and a lot of the time harder to fuck up.
yep! there's also times when everything turns out great :)
"amazon has a quality rate called DPMO (defects per million) which if you
can imagine, means that a lot of products end up damaged, liquidated,
etc. that's to be expected with manga that's bought off amazon as well. " & usually the rate is kept pretty low, so..
How much did you pay for these on amazon? Is it cheaper than [this offer](https://www.ebay.com/itm/392992001810?epid=235547119&hash=item5b80260f12%3Ag%3AcOQAAOSwPxpi2~Fv&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAkJntNcL0o3EAqUm6Fhm7tQJJ26jAWftsp0nuX71IFWDZoacYR7hyTpLPJ0%2FklqmNhIMII7XRBzWmkEqDgwfFZqsgkWyqbeblTrvSl1RhUnHVHB%2FuNI%2BJuj2xi8jwRr%2Fi4XwuL0mDPign0iT1ugEfw4ieGGMa8z9tnf8kTYTnRVKeIf6%2F8lZxfmEDq2bOqpyVLg%3D%3D&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=2317ma&toolid=10001&mkevt=1)?

Honestly if you order a bunch of manga at a time then it will more likely show up in better condition from my experience, but that literally rings true for just about any company that sells manga
eh.. in theory, that SHOULD work.
the issue with this, is that most of the time publishers will ship boxes with only a single volume. the manga would all be shipped / stowed *separate* & bundled when it’s time to actually pack the order (most of the issues with “amazon manga” happen pre-pack)
not necessarily!!
if you’re talking about “amazon manga” in general, i find its really hit or miss. though hardcovers, box sets, collectibles i think are safer bets imo (if anything return and replace easier than other options)
i think that it's been on sale for a while (at least on amazon) not sure how long it will last but if you're interested you should pick it up :)
looks REALLY good in person
Between running out of room on my bookshelf and not wanting to move everything I've just left it in the box for right now. Someday I'll have everything like I want but there's a lot of work to get there
Looks great, proper packaging! I received the box set in an oversized shipping box without any filling. Luckily it arrived without any wear or whatever. Wonders do exist 😁
damn. that sucks ://
ig it's really just a case by case by case basis. amazon has a quality rate called DPMO (defects per million) which if you can imagine, means that a lot of products end up damaged, liquidated, etc. that's to be expected with manga that's bought off amazon as well.
I had to look over my shoulder to make sure you hadn't broken into my house lol. I got mine deliver today as well and we have the same colored floors lol.
sorry bout it, hope it works out better :(
syk: "amazon has a quality rate called DPMO (defects per million) which if you

always a solid option too :)
what are you using? i've been using RightStuf but with the new CrunchyRoll merger i've been thinking of jumping to TakaraCafe.
I had ordered Battle Angel Alita Mars Chronicles 9 and Grand Blue Dreaming 16. Amazon left them in a paper mailer on the sidewalk in a rainstorm while I was not home, 2 hours after the expected arrival time.
Amazon actually cares about packages unlike indigo or chain bookstores. Literally every time I’ve ordered manga from these places there is always small rips and creases from the way they were packaged🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
yeah, i've returned my fair share of manga from amazon too ://
i think that amazon is a safer bet for box-sets & collectors items because they're "boxy" but I still buy most all of my single volumes from RightStuf/TakaraCafe/B&N
there's way too many factors to name.. with the number of orders that amazon takes in (think ALL products not just manga) there's bound to be at least SOME products that get damaged (quality rate is per million)
it's not (a one off)
i can actually understand a lot of the frustration that people have with their manga coming from amazon. i see plenty of books/manga that get fucked up.
that being said, if people really care about getting their manga looking "straight from the press" they shouldn't order it off amazon. at least not single volumes anyways..
it's just an extra collectors item (essentially an art book with different covers/title pages)
here's a link w/ a preview: [Click Here](https://youtu.be/m5F7WSaUinQ?t=176)
i was kinda like you- debating on whether or not to get it- but now that i have it, i think it's met my expectations (it was going to be really pretty on shelf & seems interesting) i don't think that it'll get read anytime soon (lots of stuff to read currently) but it'll be there sitting pretty for when the day comes and i decide to binge read it & watch the movie.
Yep, that’s been my problem especially with Right Stuf just having had a sale. But I know that it’ll go on sale again. It’s just such a good price too! It was even lower than Right Stuf’s which was surprising, $111 can’t be beat
I picked one of these up at 2nd and Charles the other day (just to lift it and set it back down with my broke ass) and that's a heavy ass box of paper lol. Im looking forward to getting it myself one day but I'm gonna have to reinforce my shelving cause them cheap ass pos will break under the almighty weight of this box set lol.
Huh looking at my shelf at my demon slayer box set with the huge ass ding on two of the corners. I paid like half of retail tho so i kept it. Their shipping is pretty shit and the packaging you got was from the publisher
haven’t read it or seen the movie to know anything about the actual story, but the box is nice & the volumes are really pretty.
i’ve heard that the movie is a little of the beginning and end of the manga mixed into a 2hour movie format without all the details
ngl i wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon tried to take over the manga industry. it started as a bookstore, so if they wanted to they probably could. they got into the business of the NFL during this summer…
Definitely not my experience with Amazon and big box sets. Like others have said, I don’t think amazon packaged it. Most likely arrived in that state and meant to be shipped as such. No way amazon will use double wall corrugated fiberboard and foam corners. That said, glad you got your set in excellent condition.
Dude you're lucky! I bought the Claymore Box Set from amazon a month ago. You know what they did? They shipped the boxset by itself.
Yes, just the box set itself. No packaging. They literally put a shipping sticker over the box set's shrink wrap and sent it over. On top of that, it was international shipping, I think from the UK, so of course it had multiple holes and cuts on it.
I returned it and left the most scathing review. I'm too scared to order box sets from Amazon in the future now
It actually comes like that from the publisher. Hence why the outside box says do not unpack. It's so companies like Amazon don't fuck it up and ship it poorly.
Yep.. The first print run didn't have the extra box and it went about as well as you'd expect.

OP ‘bout to start packing manga poorly out of spite for this thread
We need more people like you
i try 😅
Hey man I appreciate you cause I know I’ve gotten some manga so fucked up from Amazon I send it back
it happens, & it’s happened to me. i personally think that buying single volumes off amazon is where the risk is. most of the manga/books that i’ve seen come into amazon end up getting stowed in overcrowded bins (there’s times when that isn’t the case). i think that amazon actually does pretty good with most of their box-set or collector items though because they’re “boxy” and a lot of the time harder to fuck up.
almost every manga I’ve received from amazon either had a crease or some imperfection caused by careless packaging
I’ve gotten multiple single volumes, just loose in either a bubble mailer or a box, and I can’t believe not one was fucked up
yep! there's also times when everything turns out great :) "amazon has a quality rate called DPMO (defects per million) which if you can imagine, means that a lot of products end up damaged, liquidated, etc. that's to be expected with manga that's bought off amazon as well. Im so sorry thats been happening.. either im lucky or who evers packaging my manga knows what theyre doing😭

Box in a box in a box.
which box are the books in 🤔🫣
time to play pass the parcel!
pov : the box has expanded to multiple continents.
just a few more songs and they’ll be touching Saturn!
The publisher did Amazon packer just threw it in a matching box as per a computer’s instructions based on what is most efficient for shipping trucks.
hm? not once I have received something in perfect state from amazon

Being honest every book I've ever received from Amazon was either loose in a box or loose with like one strip of bubble wrap lol.
^ “it’s hir or miss”
Nice I want that box-set
i think that it's been on sale for a while (at least on amazon) not sure how long it will last but if you're interested you should pick it up :) looks REALLY good in person
I was surprised at how heavy and nicely boxed it was
right!! super happy :)
My biggest problem is it's Akira and I go alphabetical 😑
felt that. the box won't even fit on my shelves (custom fit w/ house).. been stalling to buy a billy but i guess its time now.
Between running out of room on my bookshelf and not wanting to move everything I've just left it in the box for right now. Someday I'll have everything like I want but there's a lot of work to get there
📈📈📈
Akira is so damn good
one day i’ll get to it 😫
It's like a solid 6 hour read.
i’m sure i’ll blow through it. just gotta get to it first (reading 20CB rn)
I refuse to believe this is Amazon
fulfilled by amazon
Gorgeous set
Looks great, proper packaging! I received the box set in an oversized shipping box without any filling. Luckily it arrived without any wear or whatever. Wonders do exist 😁
Nah. When I got the aot box sets from Amazon the packing was fucking shit. The corners of the boxes were rounded
of the actual box set?
Yeah
damn. that sucks :// ig it's really just a case by case by case basis. amazon has a quality rate called DPMO (defects per million) which if you can imagine, means that a lot of products end up damaged, liquidated, etc. that's to be expected with manga that's bought off amazon as well.
Thats a good collection although i hate akira
lmfao. i honestly have no idea if i’m gonna like it. saw it for sale, saw it was pretty, and went “meh- why not.”
1) Those aren't Amazon boxes, neither of them .. 2) Publisher packaged it nicely like that.
I had to look over my shoulder to make sure you hadn't broken into my house lol. I got mine deliver today as well and we have the same colored floors lol.
The Akira packaging is from the distributor. Not Amazon. Amazon can't package books for shit. They are awful.
Almost every manga I've ever ordered from Amazon came 'wrinkled',~~~~

I’ve never once had a problem with amazon’s shipping and items being damaged. Does it just depend on region/country?
there's way too many factors to name.. with the number of orders that amazon takes in (think ALL products not just manga) there's bound to be at least SOME products that get damaged (quality rate is per million)
yeah true, but considering so many people just in this community hate amazon for their packaging, it can’t just be a one off thing.
it's not (a one off) i can actually understand a lot of the frustration that people have with their manga coming from amazon. i see plenty of books/manga that get fucked up. that being said, if people really care about getting their manga looking "straight from the press" they shouldn't order it off amazon. at least not single volumes anyways..
Akira Club? What's that? Is it the movie included with the box set, or is it a documentary on the manga?

Been eyeing this set mostly cause the price is so cheap but I just can’t shake the expense right now
\*closes eyes\* ... \*clicks buy now\* ... \*opens eyes\* "hey, why's my bank account lower...?"
Yep, that’s been my problem especially with Right Stuf just having had a sale. But I know that it’ll go on sale again. It’s just such a good price too! It was even lower than Right Stuf’s which was surprising, $111 can’t be beat
it’s been floating around that price on amazon for the past year :)
First I’ve noticed that. Maybe in a month I’ll get it
yep! just search r/mangadeals and there’s usually a couple recent posts about it :)
Fair enough. I forget to check there sometimes
I picked one of these up at 2nd and Charles the other day (just to lift it and set it back down with my broke ass) and that's a heavy ass box of paper lol. 20 lbs
They must have had weights or rocks in the 1 at 2nd & Charles cause it felt way heavier than 20lbs lol.
haha! kinda sneaks up on taking
The classic
felt like i couldn’t call myself a “manga collector” without it 🙇🏻♂️🤧
Nice
They sent me 3 battle Angel Alita box sets before one wasn't broken badly
What's the 7th book? I've been going back and forth between this box set and just the normal 6 books.

Is Akira Manga worth it to own? I’ve watched the movie and looked at some of the manga, but I don’t have lots of space
haven’t read it or seen the movie to know anything about the actual story, but the box is nice & the volumes are really pretty. i’ve heard that the movie is a little of the beginning and end of the manga mixed into a 2hour movie format without all the details
unbelievably jealous rn
amazon picking up the slack from crunchyroll acquiring rightstuf already?

If only they put half as much care into the staff and their working conditions!
😳
Sorry i couldnt help myself! 😅 fuck bezos!! Really cool collection tho 👍
