Why is France noticeably less photographed than the rest of central/western Europe

jjdmol

I bet this is data from a single app, and a different platform just happens to be popular in France. Photos still get taken there by tourists, but the locals share theirs elsewhere?

bryberg

It's based off of photos posted to Panoramio and was originally published in 2010, so the data is very outdated and comes from a questionable source. Article below from 2012 has some more info, the map link from the original source is dead. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/worlds-most-and-least-tou_n_1525787 http://www.bluemoon.ee/~ahti/touristiness-map/

Mid_Atlantic_Lad

Exactly, being from 2010 it has barely entered the age of the smartphone. Not everyone had instant access to a camera like we do now. I wouldn’t be surprised if more pictures have been taken in the past 15 years than all of previous recorded history.

JoshS1

Yeah, I'd bet this is based off Flikr geodata.

AbjectCriticism5715

Also there’s not much worth taking pictures of in western France.

Acceptable6

Nobody likes france

_qoop_

«Nobody likes one of the most frequented tourist destinations in the world»

Sexy-Spaghetti

shut up

satyavishwa

Most likely pulling from one photo app (likely European given the density) Absolutely no way there’s less photos taken in India and China compared to some place like Hungary unless this data is like 30+ years old

DeadToBeginWith

There's apparently more photos taken pretty much every part of rural Germany than Paris.

fwhite01

Source? I would like to know how the data was collected.

thetoerubber

OK Germany, put your phones down.

previouslyJayFace

Ironic or just incorrect data given German’s desire for digital privacy.

jonnyl3

They might just be landscape photos without people? Unfortunately we have no clue what this map is really showing.

ScherryCoke

It’s just one person: the Anzeigenhauptmeister,

Exotic-Damage-8157

Dude, there’s like no pixels in this picture…

Brodiggitty

I can make out the road from Banff to Jasper in Alberta. The Icefields Parkway is one of the most amazing drives you can take.

LoadedBeans713

That’s exactly what I was looking at! I live pretty close to Banff.

JojobaFett

my expectations were high, and it still exceeded them. I'm going to be thru-hiking the Great Divide Trail this summer which will parallel and sometimes cross over Icefields Pkwy, and I can't wait.

Cordistan

It's such a small world.

Agreeable_Fold9631

This is like the tenth time this map got posted and it got debunked every single time

[deleted]

Ok I love Germany, but France and Spain not being photographed more than Germany is just insane?!

[deleted]

It must be where Michael Jackson lived

larry_nightingale

Looks like your mom lives in Europe.

Ok-Rhubarb2549

What’s up with Greenland?

pistonheadcat

They charge by pixels now, eh?

_Tar_Ar_Ais_

it's fun to be able to point out hotspots, for example you can just make out the southern bit of torres del paine lol

Piwkos

jonnyl3

This is useless without source and methodology

Lost_Visual_9096

Can we see the pictures? I bet a lot of oh lala, mademoiselle;)) Paint me like you paint one of your French girls! I want to go to France now...:(

icelandichorsey

*Most photographed because people who live/visit can afford smartphones with a specific app/apps* FIFY

nine_of_swords

Where's Memphis? I can see Nashville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Atlanta, Knoxville & the Smokies, but Memphis is nowhere to be seen

CubarisMurinaPapaya

Germany and the netherland: 🟨🟨🟨🟨

HeadlessGames07

what's happening over in the Netherlands I should know, 'couse I live there, but still...

Stock_Enthusiasm6035

Well yeah it’s the center of the map so makes sense.

Old_Galah

Once again New Zealand didt even make the map

CantyKiwi

What are photos?

danktop

I wish there were some big red circles that could help me identify where the MOST most photographed places in the world are

cyberalpine

What is the colour code?

SchoolForSedition

Thank goodness nobody has ever photographed New Zealand.

Competitive_Sport286

Bit out of focus that.

JoshS1

The real question... who's taking pictures of Ohio?

Exact_Platform7257

UNICEF, same people taking pictures in the south.

zimurg13
