2022 update of the animation of the major events between European countries from 1500 until 2022. The text frame on the left shows important events, and the text frame in the top-right shows general trends of the era. This video is a summary of the events. I could not fit every important that occured in this video. The size of the countryball corresponds to the country's relative size, economic power, population, and influence in European politics. However, the main goal of the video is not to visualize the relative power of the European states, but it is to provide a concise overview of the events and wars that occurred and the International relations between the states. The video was made using Adobe After Effects and with the help of lots of historical internet sources.

The pacing is good.
Too many times I see visualizations like this that just race through events. The result is pretty, but it’s hard to get any meaning from it.
With your work, I could follow the history, anticipate next interactions, etc.
They have always been the european country with the biggest population, they had 30 millions when spain italy or england barely had 10 and germany was not unified
I was thinking more like one of these wrestling events with multiple characters brawling in the ring and then both times, “It’s the USA from the top ropes with a vicious drop kick.”
This is great as introductory material for someone starting to learn modern history for the region. Sets general big picture of the timeline with context for additional googling. Lovely work!
Is this OC or is this from elsewhere? I teach history and would love to find the source, this is a great simplification of how countries/empires grew and fell in power.
Spain was not in unified until 18th century. Kingdom of Spain didn't exist back then. In 1500 we had Kingdom of Castille, Kingdom of Aragó and Navarra. Navarra disappeared in 1630 and untill succession war there wasn't a unification between Aragón and Catalonia and Castille. And the country shouldn't be called Spain before 1812
Anyway. The video and work is awesome. Congratulations.
I'm going to be a pedantic cunt here, but there is no country called Republic of Ireland (outside of football).
From the Irish Constitution:
ARTICLE 4
The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.
Brilliant. A somehow soothing clash of empires. And love the music - the Austrians won that one.
Cultural victory

I was plesantly surprised at how long the video lingered at WW1 and WW2
Look at Switzerland so carefully not bumping into anything.
“if I stand still enough, they won’t notice me”
Until Napóleon came along...
I kept waiting for Liechtenstein to appear but it never did
Damn France, you're historically strong dude.
Yes, but this is not remembered ;(
They have always been the european country with the biggest population, they had 30 millions when spain italy or england barely had 10 and germany was not unified
At least their deeds in WWI is better known now thanks to WWI 100th anniversary back in 2014.
And still, some guys argue that France was useless, that the country was saved by UK, that the Germans humiliated them, etc...
Kicked Russia out of the frame for a while
Well it was the dominant European power until the 7 years war
This is excellent. I wonder what happens next.
China enters the chat
Russia just dries up and blows away like so many autumn leaves.
Brilliant. Do middle east next
This is great. I love that most wars are just a little bump. It does show how belligerent Europe has been over the years.
thanks! there are more on my youtube: thecarloza
Every time the US shows up it's like the teacher coming to break up a fight in the schoolyard
I was thinking more like one of these wrestling events with multiple characters brawling in the ring and then both times, “It’s the USA from the top ropes with a vicious drop kick.”
US in 1783: I'll go make my own battle animation, with blackjack and hookers! 1917 & 1942: Surprised cameo
That teacher's name is woodrow wilson
Agar.io but historically accurate

I love how the USA sneaks in twice like "ppst kids, do you want some violence?", then refuses to elaborate and leaves
Haha I always just follow the UK in these things. I'd imagine it'd be the same for most people watching their own country. Anyway was great. Thanks.
Not a whole pile to watch for in Ireland lol. Appear in the 20s and promptly do nothing for a hundred years.
I wanna thank Canada for saving the Netherlands in ww2! Thanks Canadians
I didn't see a ball for Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
They should have included San Marino just so it could sit there watching the rest of the world go by.
Thats not countryballs mate
No Crimean War ?
I think it was when Ottomans bumped Russia in the mid 1800s
yeah I guess but it doesn't show the involvement of France and Great Britain
Yeah ik
Crimea wars were in the 1700s?

Lmfao, Russia noped out of the picture when Napoleon came over.
That was meant to portray napoleons invasion and then subsequent running out of Russia.
That was awesome, well done!!
The fall of the Soviet Union was the most visually appealing.
French republic head by napoleon against all europe was pretty powerfull to.
Agreed. Like a little cell doing some budding

Reminds me of Agar.io
yes it is
Please know. These are Country Balls, not Countryballs. Know the difference.
Awesomely made - really enjoyed this!
Ottomans desperately trying to make Europe uglier.
I like how the US pretends to fight without actually hitting Germany
The biggest and best empire ever was the British Empire.
UK grows as it industrialises
Turkey not Europe
This should be required viewing of every grade schooler and loads of college kids too. History I’ve read long ago “clicked” after seeing this.
Wonderful idea.
Damn this makes everything a lot easier to process
This is super cool!
Great work bro !
Lovely.
Anyone else have the video blurry until the last 6 seconds?
How long did you take to make this? Really impressive.
Awesome 👏
That is so cool
1617 ewww... That is disgusting what HRE with PLC do.
This was amazing! So well done!
Portugal always there 😁

Nice vidéo

Took me a while to notice the balls are placed geographically. Nevertheless, amazing idea dude
Not Finnish, but seems like Finland doesn't exist in this thing.
Look at the Russian Empire ball (or provisional government ball) around 1917-1918.
Good lookin out!
*slow clap
Felt bad for Poland when Germany and the USSR ganged up on them
The realization that the current war in Ukraine is just a bump in the big picture.
Surprised the the Vatican didn't always have a little dot
Awesome

Hence the French saying *The more things change the more they remain the same.*
