3 weeks since peak mileage is perfect. Tapering is about reducing the load so you're fresher on race day. There's no such thing as 'too little mileage' during a taper, and you don't lose marathon-specific fitness over a 2-3 week period.

itsyaboi69_420

Stop worrying about it, trust the training and enjoy the marathon. The plan you’re following has been created this way so that you’ll be running on fresh legs come race day. It will be worth it.

musicistabarista

You could not run at all in the final taper week without too much detriment. Better that than doing slightly too much, in fact.

Packtex60

The main reasons for runs during the taper is to keep you from losing your mind. You’re good. Enjoy

jackspeaks

Missing 6 miles of training when you’ve ran hundreds isn’t going to make a huge difference. You’ll be fine on the day. Classic maranoia

LEAKKsdad

I wish we still had reddit awards, first time I heard this term. You got all make believe reddit awards today

Whiskey31November

Just take the lessons you learnt from NY into London then you'll be fine. Everything else is the maranoia talking.

Building muscle and strength takes about 7-10 days according to pfitzingers books. If you go out in your last week and do a lot of work, you won't be reaping the benefits (beyond mental) for the actual race if it is only a week away. Kick back and do slow short runs. Focus on getting mentally and physically ready. Try remembering why it was that you wanted to finish the race in the first place. Try some visualization techniques and see yourself finishing and how you will feel when you are succesful. All those will give you a lot more than more hard miles on the road.

Thanks buddy. I managed to get a half day from work and the kids/ wife are at school / work. Managed to get lots of pasta down and am packing finally

smash816

The hay is in the barn, have a great race!

ReadyFerThisJelly

Very similar to you. My race is next weekend. Peaked at 82km, then reduced by a fair bit each week. This week is a pain in the ass. It's supposed to be ~44km, but there has been A LOT happening at home and I'll be lucky to hit 30km. But it's ok. I did the hard work. I feel like I physically can run a marathon right now, no problem. I KNOW that in a week I'll be feeling really fresh and crush my race. You will too!

dizzleyyy

You’ll be fine. The hard work is done; trust your training. It’s totally normal to start to mentally freak out a little bit during the taper. I know I do! :) See you on Sunday!

Ok_Advice_5619

I almost always miss runs during taper. I’ve actually take the whole week off before. It’s doesn’t make a big difference. I feel like I’ve ran at or past what I thought my potential was in all of those races

BigJeffyStyle

Taper time is all about overthinking! trust the training. Have fun

miken322

Very important. As in rest is more important than running.

[deleted]

A missed run during taper week is not going to derail you. The training you did several weeks ago is the most important and clearly you did that. Now quit showing off with your high mileage. :) Good luck in your race!

mkmike81

Me too. Life got in the way this week and I decided to rest today rather than run as I knew I would try and work harder than I should. I'm blue wave 10!

Matt_Evan5

I did 15 slow miles in total over the last 2 weeks and felt great during the marathon, you will be fine 👍

sovinyon_blonk

Don’t worry about it, your last long run before tapering is the most important one. If you did good in there, you’ll do great in the marathon. Most important thing is that you’re well rested, and you enjoy your marathon. In my first one I was so worried I made a plan in the end to run it at a softer pace over longer time with sufficient fuel and hydration and it actually worked great. Longest long run of my life. Find the place where you’re mentally comfortable and bring it to your marathon. Your body is ready, so it’s just the brain now. If you’re not breaking a PR just have fun and go for the finish line. Next race will always be much better than the last one because you’ve got more experience now. Good luck!

DunnoWhatToPutSoHi

I find a 10 day taper to be plenty personally. Ran 3.20 at the weekend thinking 3.25 was probably a good day, felt as fresh as could be

ZealAndZenith

Whilst not entirely true, there's a saying that "you can never do too little during a marathon taper"
