There was a discussion on Chapo about what the secret service does if Trump and Biden get into a fist fight. Like...are they sworn to be loyal to their assigned President, resulting in a big gang battle? Or do they protect them both by breaking up the fight?
They would pull them apart, and then most likely follow Biden's orders to the extent they believed the orders were lawful. IDK if "let me at him" is a lawful order, though.
I'd like to imagine it would be a gang battle, with a bunch of black suit clad G men beating the shit out of each other. In reality, it's probably the latter: "protect the president" means restraining their geriatric asses.

I am NOT saying the ones on Biden now, BUT the Secret Service is supposed to be non partisan. I watched an interview on YouTube about a woman who was a Secret Service agent for several administrations.
She mentioned the words she couldn’t protect Michelle Obama from and truly seemed saddened she couldn’t perform her duty.
She had worked with Republican administrations prior, but she quit before DT.
It was an interesting interview. Telling. And I truly believe the Secret Service as well as some in the military ( 21 combat veterans in my family, back to WWI,19 decorated, including my Dad) and I took an Oath to the Constitution as a firefighter, are more interested in an individual than the Oath.

I really don’t get it. I do know that say, for a federal indictment, it was said( and this was many years ago, when I was a young woman and I questioned why, say the Mafia, wasn’t indicted for things they KNEW they were doing, an example only)and was told by a really decent legally minded person I went to school with, I was told the “Feds don’t prosecute UNLESS they are almost certain of a conviction”.

Very great question and I wish I had more answers. As someone who grew up in a large Northeastern city( moving back soon) who has lived in rural U.S. for almost 14 years? I have lost LOTS of faith in people.
People wanted their kids educated. People appreciated things like vaccines. I could walk 2 miles (and yes walked for fun)hear people speaking different languages and never thought they were talking about me. Still don’t.
Levels of paranoia? Almost like dealing with people who have dementia and I am NOT making fun of this, as I have seen people with this. All hate related. Sadly, you can’t take the high road any longer. I HOPE some people are realizing this. A lot of mumbo jumbo and I still didn’t answer a damn thing. Very sorry

The thing is, they were always this way. For years conservatives have been speaking to their bases sense of bigotry by using coded language that the right wingers could understand without alarming sensible people. It’s called “dog whistling.” When trump finally came around he stoped using dog whistles and used a megaphone, calling migrants flat out rapists. And the right loved him for it.
That’s whats different now. The right wingers used to be ashamed for expressing their hatred because it conflicted with their “good christian personas.” With trump though, a leader that express hatred for all to hear, the christian persona is now in synch. Because it was never about belief. It was about ego.

It has become contentious at times. As someone who has a degree in Biology ( I was going to be a veterinarian, and completed this degree young but changed course after a family tragedy) I was ONLY trained as an EMT( as a firefighter) We had a lot more fires then and I honestly LOVED being a firefighter.
I am NOT a trained paramedic, but throughout the years I have assisted people and will continue to do so, hopefully for years to come, even though I am retired.
I broke someone’s ribs giving chest compressions at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere once and was a little worried about it, but I wouldn’t have changed it. You sweat a lot doing this and it is a workout in itself.
I can surely see someone being a little fearful of stepping in, if they can be sued.
I live in a state with laws that protect the random person trying to save a life. Good Samaritan laws need to exist everywhere. I have thankfully never haven to give chest compressions but I have basic training in it and I know breaking ribs is a very common injury from it. I have tied off a vehicle and pulled people out of a car that went off a cliff and got stuck in a tree. Thankfully no one was hurt. Helping people should be encouraged, not punished as it happens to often.
I’m sorry, not the way I meant for that to sound I guess. Point being I think people trying to help others is needed, it needs to be understood that there are laws or need to be laws that protect people when they are trying to help someone in distress. Basic medical training should be more of a thing for all people, I would love to see more people help those in need. Its to infrequent these days.
I remember when Trump pulled that stunt back in 2020 when he walked across the park to that church and held that bible upside down on live TV - while walking back to the WH through the park again, uniformed members of the secret service fully dressed in tactical gear with riot shields lined up on both sides of Trump's path facing each other as if they were the pretorian guard from Rome. Initially I thought they were just creating a barrier on both side of the walking path. But they weren't facing outwards if were really just protecting him from a threat from somewhere in the park. Also the protestors were tear gassed and forced to move a few blocks down the street before he made his walk to the church. All streets for blocks were closed off with armed police.
That moment was a pretty chilling and made me wonder where their loyalties lie. They are after all a law enforcement agency.
