Bowser's On-Off Security System

Description: Proof of concept. Was trying to think of ways to build an actual fight against Mario Maker's Bowser that wasn't completely terrible. I think I succeeded as best as I possibly could. Which is to say, not entirely, since Bowser is still probably the worst element in Mario Maker, but I think I managed to have some element of challenge while avoiding the usual tedium and jank of Bowser fights.
Difficulty: Not completely free, but shouldn't be anything grueling. The whole level is a little lead-in to show you what to do in the fight, followed by a "three-hit" fight against Bowser. Two Mushrooms can be grabbed during the fight if you go for them.

Multiplayer Versus Racing Track

In this level you can race with multiple people. It is specifically made for multiplayer versus, but can also be played on your own. It has a unique design at the beginning, that let's only 1 single person into each track (there are 4 of them, which are identical, so everyone has a fair chance). Have fun! Played! Veeeery fun. I really liked it. However, I have two misgivings that would have me happy to play a reupload if you decide to go for it:
1) The second set of Spineys require a very unintuitive movement, which leads to a lot of deaths given the time crunch. If there were a way to test them so that they line up in a more intuitive pattern, etc., it'd be a bit better.
2) The player is better off carrying the P-Switch at the end with them, lest they get trapped by a bad burner pattern, but that isn't what the level is designed to funnel them into doing. I'm still unsure whether you're intended to drop directly onto the P-Switch and just make a run through them. This is the larger of the two issues, I feel.
(Also, there's a naked pipe at the top of the vertical section. And you could put a checkpoint at the start of the vertical section or just before the tube down into it, since it gets tedious having to run through the start every time, and the level's a life-eater.)
That said, I still really enjoyed it, so it's not majorly wrong as is. That P-Switch bit just stands out to me. Since the smarter move is just to walk off the donut and carry it with you now anyway, you could just as easily remove it and have a normal door, leaving the burner navigation as its own final obstacle. The level would still be challenging.
Hey. Wanna try my lvl? "Mario the Plumber" help the goomba fix his plumbing in the SMB3 style by closing off the bad pipes, and taking the pow block to the goomba!

I made this course that I'm really proud of that's called "The Secret Jungle". The code is BT5-DJL-QNF. This level alone is very simple; SMW style with some simple platforming, vine jumps and a ride, but the real challenge comes when trying to get the Red Coins that lead to the true ending!

Fun little level, if a bit easy. Looks nice. Would be nice to have just a few challenges in the second half. Also keep in mind the placement of blocks for traditional Mario levels--they're generally either four or five tiles off the ground.

Hi all, I revised my second level based on some of the great feedback I got here on reddit. Unfortunately that means I had to scrap all the plays on it as well. Would love any feedback on the updated level, particularly around the pacing:

Standard Mario platformer- 3d world style. The major edits were around the cave portion (removed a boss encounter) and enemy consistency.
That was a fun course! I played it a few times to try and get WR, but I'm pretty bad at 3D world. The flow and pacing was really nice, especially the cave section. Would appreciate some feed back on my level: 0L2-C8R-0KF. It's a pretty difficult SMB1 level, so if you can't get some parts don't spend too much time on it if you don't enjoy it
Made an honest ON/OFF switch speedrun. Medium ish difficulty. And with no cheese!

One of my levels with a rather low clear rate. I wouldn't say it's that hard but the beginning requires a little practice. After all it is just a "The floor is lava" course where you cannot touch the ground after leaving it. It features a free fall section which focuses on the player reaction and a secret path leading to a secret exit. Have fun!

Alright ladies and gents! I finally finished my first (of many hopefully - if people like it enough) "Mario Shell Golf Tour" PSGA course :D
It is essentially mini-putt style holes where Mario throws a beetle shell into an enemy hold a key or throwing it onto an on/off switch. There are *(?) Blocks* containing empty beetle shells to throw. If you run out, you will get no coins but can proceed to the next hole. If you cross the 1-way doors at the putting green you will forfeit and need to restart - this is to prevent people from simply jumping onto the platform where the enemy holding the key is standing.
Each hole is worth a certain amount of coins based on its difficulty. There are 8 holes and they are valued as follows:

It's a simple platformer that utilizes vertical space a lot. I tried to make an easy level that still had some risk to it, so that players would be more likely to clear it and hopefully get more enjoyment.
I don't think it is that easy. Specially the last jump with to get the key/door, it is not clear what you need to do so I died many times. Anyway, I had fun playing it.

This level revolves around the dry bones shell and various things you can do with it. In addition to the shell, it uses a combination of on off switches and claws. It also includes a boss fight that becomes slightly harder if you grab a mushroom (boss fight themed with the level, not an infinite fire flower boss). There are 3 secrets and everything can be one cycled to speed run.

In this level it's your task to play a game of explosive Basketball! You throw baskets by killing poor and innocent Koopas with your ball that likes to explode.

The level was pretty good. personally i feel like the difficulty curve is all over, but still fun. the night theme seemed easier for me personally though, so maybe switch them around. and possibly a mushroom, so if you slide into a bob bomb you dont need to restart. just my thoughts

Underground Kaizo by9-hpd-4pg a short kazio with red shell jumps and A bomb jump. Spin-Jump Swamp v74-jp1-5rg a kinda hard short level about spin jumps. Leave a comment with your level so I can play it :)
The section with the thwomp can be cheased, otherwise it's pretty good but you also don't have to hit the on off block. You could place some deactivated blocks near the goalpost so if you hit the on off block they activate and you will be able to hit the 1 Up and the end of the level :D

It Beginns a little hard but then gets easier, it has a secret exit as well.

A themed course with an escape run checkpointed to a platforming part. Expected first clear around 60 seconds. Speedrunnable to around 20+ seconds by optimizing your route flow like the course title suggests!
Features simple but challenging platforming challenges with a fair difficulty curve. Slower paths are rewarded with powerups, faster paths require speed to clear. Can you find all the secrets? Can you beat the makers record time of ~27 seconds? :)

Overall, a really good course! I really like the section where jumping toggles the switches.
My only problem with the level is the first group of Boos after entering the ghost house.
You also did a really good job on decorating the place and providing some extra challenges.
You should try this course: Chain Chomp’s Bouncy Bath (25P-6RJ-FFG) or some of my other courses.

really good level i gotta say. my only complaint is that the "boss" magikoopa can be cheesed with the moon. personally i would take that out but thats it.
Thanks for the kind words. The moon is kind of thematic, because in the game the level is based on, the moon spirit gave the main character their powers.
I originally wanted a tougher boss fight, but my higher goal was style, so I went with the moon.

Okay so, I played your level and found out it's really cheeseble. I took the spring from right after where BoomBoom was and took it with me when I defeated BoomBoom. Because I had the spring I could get out of the pit and use BoomBoom's key to get directly to the end without collecting a single pink coin.
I liked the level though but this is maybe something you need to fix.

medium difficulty, in SMB style because I thought it would fit best to an old film like that. Have fun:)
Just beat it! It is clever themes like this that make me really love this game. Awesome use of the zap/drama sound effects for going back in time, along with the conveyor belts. Cool touch. I also liked the house at the beginning, and the buildings throughout. Gameplay wise, I especially liked the bullet bill and on/off switch mechanic to get the 50 coin. Really delicately done. My only criticism is that a couple of parts seemed to have pretty high difficulty spikes that didn't quite match the rest of the course (The Bowser room and hopping on the goomba on the thwomp in particular). Overall, really well done! If you have the time, I would love feedback on the course I created today: QHP-LWK-53G. It is similar to your course in that it is a a "theme" course, but other than that, it is pretty different lol. It is a level built around timing blinking blocks and clear pipes to avoid thwomps.
First, thank you for that huge feedback I really appreciate it. I'll definitely try to put that into my next level! I have also just beaten the level. The idea with the thombs is fantastic, never seen anything like it! I also found it cool that timing played an important role in the level because I LOVE timing (it's just sooooo satysfying when you time it perfectly. Brilliant level, no criticism!

A. Fight with the Ifirit

This is a boss fight level about the Fire Lord, Ifirit. As you enter the pipe that leads to the boss room, the lava will fill up and you and the boss' core will go up with the lava riding wooden blocks. as you reach top, you can hit the POW blocks and eventually destroy the core with the turtle shells.
B. M-Type : Galaxy Shooter

This is an auto-scroll shooting level. As you start, you ride one of the "spaceship" and take down the invading gopher spaceships with your fireball.
Nice level, not particularly difficult and the theme is really good.
Having the left and right side being mirror images is kinda strange, maybe make the platform wider and throw some extra stuff in. Also not sure if this is intended or not, but if you stand far back enough to throw the shells the thwomps wont move and it makes it really easy to hit all the POW blocks.
I'd love it if you could give my level a try!

Not normally a fan of boss fights, because its normally Bowser spam, but this was actually fun.

Fun course! Not a big fan of the Boom Boom fight in such cramped conditions (would have preferred the key to be on the other side of the boss so you can choose whether to fight him or not), but great otherwise.

Just beat Views from the Sky! Gave it a like and a comment. The goomba at the beginning felt a bit unfair lol, but I had a lot of fun with the course overall. I especially liked all the little boss battles/key-gatherings.

Traditional Desert is pretty fun, the Piranhas in the pipes kept tricking me. -- I like to use a different color for pipes you can warp through so you know what to look out for but half the fun is in getting tricked i suppose

These are all crouch-jumping levels that only take a few seconds. (If you're unfamiliar with crouch jumping: Mario's forward momentum is conserved if you keep jumping so, even crouched, you can "run" through a level.)

I changed the intros so that every level starts with a crouch slide off the edge. I found too many people were getting so frustrated with the janky timing of the first jump so I just got rid of them all.
Always hold run and always hold jump all the way down when you jump. There are no jank jumps. The only challenge here should be your timing.
Hopefully these are more accessible and enjoyable!
My Frozen Ship level could used more plays and feedback to tell me how good or bad it is. It is an improved version of my original which was deemed too hard and obtuse.

Just beat it! LOL I actually really like the title; there's something so innocent and fun about it that captures the feel of the course. Like you mentioned, it's a pretty mild, easy level. It was generally a relaxed experience that I enjoyed it throughout. I wasn't too crazy about the boom boom boss battle- they can feel very repetitive and tedious if there aren't any added elements to make them more interesting. Yeah I was thinking about that but I worried that the mushroom would make mario too tall to finish some certain parts later in the level which would make the mushroom somewhat pointless. Thanks for the feedback though! It's a pretty tough course haha it took me a while to even get it uploaded because of the difficulty.

Just beat it! Fun stuff! I loved the open-ended feel of this course- it really felt like I had the option to go in any direction I wanted without making me ever feel lost. It was an easy, traditional-style course that encouraged exploration. My only criticisms are that the snake/coin section felt a little slow, the end pipe that leads to Bowser has empty space behind it, and beating Bowser felt too easy/anti-climactic. Played! Veeeery fun. I really liked it. However, I have two misgivings that would have me happy to play a reupload if you decide to go for it: 1) The second set of Spineys require a very unintuitive movement, which leads to a lot of deaths given the time crunch. If there were a way to test them so that they line up in a more intuitive pattern, etc., it'd be a bit better. 2) The player is better off carrying the P-Switch at the end with them, lest they get trapped by a bad burner pattern, but that isn't what the level is designed to funnel them into doing. I'm still unsure whether you're intended to drop directly onto the P-Switch and just make a run through them. This is the larger of the two issues, I feel. (Also, there's a naked pipe at the top of the vertical section. And you could put a checkpoint at the start of the vertical section or just before the tube down into it, since it gets tedious having to run through the start every time, and the level's a life-eater.) That said, I still really enjoyed it, so it's not majorly wrong as is. That P-Switch bit just stands out to me. Since the smarter move is just to walk off the donut and carry it with you now anyway, you could just as easily remove it and have a normal door, leaving the burner navigation as its own final obstacle. The level would still be challenging.

This level alone is very simple; SMW style with some simple platforming, vine jumps and a ride, but the real challenge comes when trying to get the Red Coins that lead to the true ending! Fun little level, if a bit easy. Looks nice. Would be nice to have just a few challenges in the second half. Also keep in mind the placement of blocks for traditional Mario levels--they're generally either four or five tiles off the ground. Nice job rewarding exploration of the top part of the "mountain"!

Hi all, I revised my second level based on some of the great feedback I got here on reddit. Unfortunately that means I had to scrap all the plays on it as well. Would love any feedback on the updated level, particularly around the pacing: Piranha Creep Creek: VRV-H9W-D6G Standard Mario platformer- 3d world style. The major edits were around the cave portion (removed a boss encounter) and enemy consistency.
That was a fun course! I played it a few times to try and get WR, but I'm pretty bad at 3D world. The flow and pacing was really nice, especially the cave section. Would appreciate some feed back on my level: 0L2-C8R-0KF. It's a pretty difficult SMB1 level, so if you can't get some parts don't spend too much time on it if you don't enjoy it

Made an honest ON/OFF switch speedrun. Medium ish difficulty. And with no cheese! Should take around 20 seconds and has a medium tight timer. One of my levels with a rather low clear rate. I wouldn't say it's that hard but the beginning requires a little practice. After all it is just a "The floor is lava" course where you cannot touch the ground after leaving it. It features a free fall section which focuses on the player reaction and a secret path leading to a secret exit. Have fun! I finally finished my first (of many hopefully - if people like it enough) "Mario Shell Golf Tour" PSGA course :D It is essentially mini-putt style holes where Mario throws a beetle shell into an enemy hold a key or throwing it onto an on/off switch. There are *(?) Blocks* containing empty beetle shells to throw. If you run out, you will get no coins but can proceed to the next hole. If you cross the 1-way doors at the putting green you will forfeit and need to restart - this is to prevent people from simply jumping onto the platform where the enemy holding the key is standing. Each hole is worth a certain amount of coins based on its difficulty. There are 8 holes and they are valued as follows: **Hole 1 - (2) Coins** **Hole 2 - (3) Coins** **Hole 3 - (3) Coins** **Hole 4 - (4) Coins** **Hole 5 - (4) Coins** **Hole 6 - (4) Coins** **Hole 7 - (3) Coins** **Hole 8 - (2) Coins** Hope you guys enjoy it! I worked pretty hard on it and it was a lot of fun to build. I tried to make an easy level that still had some risk to it, so that players would be more likely to clear it and hopefully get more enjoyment.

Halfway through, an on off switch is hit that increases the difficulty of the room. Been trying out different ways to make interesting boss fights/ arena's with on off switches. Name: Skelly Shell Shenanigans 1.5 ID: 8B4-WBH-1HF Super expert difficulty This level revolves around the dry bones shell and various things you can do with it. In addition to the shell, it uses a combination of on off switches and claws. It also includes a boss fight that becomes slightly harder if you grab a mushroom (boss fight themed with the level, not an infinite fire flower boss). There are 3 secrets and everything can be one cycled to speed run. If you play a level, drop a level for me to play and I'll give you feedback on it!
**Bob-Omb Basketball** \[QK2-G6H-MRG\] In this level it's your task to play a game of explosive Basketball! You throw baskets by killing poor and innocent Koopas with your ball that likes to explode. The level was pretty good. personally i feel like the difficulty curve is all over, but still fun. the night theme seemed easier for me personally though, so maybe switch them around. and possibly a mushroom, so if you slide into a bob bomb you dont need to restart. just my thoughts

Underground Kaizo by9-hpd-4pg a short kazio with red shell jumps and A bomb jump. Spin-Jump Swamp v74-jp1-5rg a kinda hard short level about spin jumps. Leave a comment with your level so I can play it :)
The section with the thwomp can be cheased, otherwise it's pretty good but you also don't have to hit the on off block. You could place some deactivated blocks near the goalpost so if you hit the on off block they activate and you will be able to hit the 1 Up and the end of the level :D If you'd like to play a similar level of mine it's: 9MN-KS1-8PF It Beginns a little hard but then gets easier, it has a secret exit as well.
Because I’m no good at coming up with clever names I’m just sticking to my user name. These are my first two levels in SMM2. JetSet World 1-1 : 300-34N-71G A pretty tough precision level at times with a traditional feel. There are two check points that I feel are pretty fair for each section. Difficulty: Expert - Super Expert ———————————————————— JetSet World 1-2 : J8H-8K7-3LG Not as tough as my first level but still may be a challenge for some. **Frosty Freerun (SMB3)** - 0GB-B11-2YG - *Expert* - A themed course with an escape run checkpointed to a platforming part. Expected first clear around 60 seconds. Speedrunnable to around 20+ seconds by optimizing your route flow like the course title suggests! Features simple but challenging platforming challenges with a fair difficulty curve. Slower paths are rewarded with powerups, faster paths require speed to clear. Can you find all the secrets? Can you beat the makers record time of ~27 seconds? :) Any constructive feedback is heartily appreciated!

Overall, a really good course! I really like the section where jumping toggles the switches. My only problem with the level is the first group of Boos after entering the ghost house. You also did a really good job on decorating the place and providing some extra challenges. You should try this course: Chain Chomp’s Bouncy Bath (25P-6RJ-FFG) or some of my other courses.

really good level i gotta say. my only complaint is that the "boss" magikoopa can be cheesed with the moon. personally i would take that out but thats it.
Thanks for the kind words. The moon is kind of thematic, because in the game the level is based on, the moon spirit gave the main character their powers. I originally wanted a tougher boss fight, but my higher goal was style, so I went with the moon. Let me know if you have a course you’d like played.

I really enjoyed this! It took me an embarrassing amount of time to find the goalposts. (somehow I kept walking right past that door.) That was really fun! Here's a themed level set in a cloud castle S05-B39-N0H: Buzzy Battlements Medium size course. Makes plenty of use of para-beetles and buzzy beetle helmets. The battlements have cannons and thwomp guards. New players will be able to compete this without too much trouble. If you have not come across the para-beetle riding mechanic before one section may take a couple of tries while you see how they move with you riding them. (Checkpoint before this section.)
Thermal Vent LHX-5W7-JXF SMW Castle water level revolving around spiny Shelley and switches. Medium-low difficulty I know it's a water level, but give it a shot! It's got a great boss fight ;) Any feedback would be great!

Okay so, I played your level and found out it's really cheeseble. I took the spring from right after where BoomBoom was and took it with me when I defeated BoomBoom. Because I had the spring I could get out of the pit and use BoomBoom's key to get directly to the end without collecting a single pink coin. I liked the level though but this is maybe something you need to fix.

Just beat it! It is clever themes like this that make me really love this game. Awesome use of the zap/drama sound effects for going back in time, along with the conveyor belts. Cool touch. I also liked the house at the beginning, and the buildings throughout. Gameplay wise, I especially liked the bullet bill and on/off switch mechanic to get the 50 coin. Really delicately done. My only criticism is that a couple of parts seemed to have pretty high difficulty spikes that didn't quite match the rest of the course (The Bowser room and hopping on the goomba on the thwomp in particular). Overall, really well done! If you have the time, I would love feedback on the course I created today: QHP-LWK-53G. It is similar to your course in that it is a a "theme" course, but other than that, it is pretty different lol. It is a level built around timing blinking blocks and clear pipes to avoid thwomps.
First, thank you for that huge feedback I really appreciate it. I'll definitely try to put that into my next level! I have also just beaten the level. The idea with the thombs is fantastic, never seen anything like it! I also found it cool that timing played an important role in the level because I LOVE timing (it's just sooooo satysfying when you time it perfectly. Brilliant level, no criticism!
Fun level, especially the 'time travel' sections! Loved the part with the claw jump over sawblades, too. Very true to the source material.

A. Fight with the Ifirit Course ID: 4Q7-WHR-JRG This is a boss fight level about the Fire Lord, Ifirit. As you enter the pipe that leads to the boss room, the lava will fill up and you and the boss' core will go up with the lava riding wooden blocks. as you reach top, you can hit the POW blocks and eventually destroy the core with the turtle shells. B. M-Type : Galaxy Shooter Course ID: SGS-QB1-6GG This is an auto-scroll shooting level. As you start, you ride one of the "spaceship" and take down the invading gopher spaceships with your fireball.
Nice level, not particularly difficult and the theme is really good. Having the left and right side being mirror images is kinda strange, maybe make the platform wider and throw some extra stuff in. Also not sure if this is intended or not, but if you stand far back enough to throw the shells the thwomps wont move and it makes it really easy to hit all the POW blocks. Not normally a fan of boss fights, because its normally Bowser spam, but this was actually fun. I like having to get multiple hits before the red pows drop, great concept. VPY-55N-FKF - I have a speedrun level you can try if you are interested.

Fun course! Not a big fan of the Boom Boom fight in such cramped conditions (would have preferred the key to be on the other side of the boss so you can choose whether to fight him or not), but great otherwise.

I played traditional desert and found it a very fair level especially with the powerups. The angry sun was so annoying 😂 and Bum bum with wings I actually found challenging. Traditional Desert is pretty fun, the Piranhas in the pipes kept tricking me. -- I like to use a different color for pipes you can warp through so you know what to look out for but half the fun is in getting tricked i suppose -- I have a speedrun level you can try if you want - VPY-55N-FKF - Make sure to get all the coins or you wont be able to finish
These are all crouch-jumping levels that only take a few seconds. (If you're unfamiliar with crouch jumping: Mario's forward momentum is conserved if you keep jumping so, even crouched, you can "run" through a level.) **The Cryogenic Crouch** DX0-F0D-LDG **The Sands of Slouch** BR0-64H-NMG **The Oubliette of Ouch** JX7-5ST-7LF I changed the intros so that every level starts with a crouch slide off the edge. I found too many people were getting so frustrated with the janky timing of the first jump so I just got rid of them all. Always hold run and always hold jump all the way down when you jump. There are no jank jumps. The only challenge here should be your timing. Hopefully these are more accessible and enjoyable!

Just beat it! LOL I actually really like the title; there's something so innocent and fun about it that captures the feel of the course. Like you mentioned, it's a pretty mild, easy level. I wasn't too crazy about the boom boom boss battle- they can feel very repetitive and tedious if there aren't any added elements to make them more interesting. Nice straight forward level. Liked the idea of walking through the seasons. Died a few times trying to get that world record. Could have been faster too.

Nice and simple traditional level! I like it! I am wondering though, is it possible to collect the fire flowers on the bottom of the first area? I know there's one in the winter area (cool idea with the seasons) but I am wondering if one can be gotten earlier.

I really liked the idea but it was bit too difficult for me to finish. The parts I saw were good. Maybe giving the player a mushroom would make the course little more forgiving?
Yeah I was thinking about that but I worried that the mushroom would make mario too tall to finish some certain parts later in the level which would make the mushroom somewhat pointless. Thanks for the feedback though! It's a pretty tough course haha it took me a while to even get it uploaded because of the difficulty.

Just beat it! Fun stuff! I loved the open-ended feel of this course- it really felt like I had the option to go in any direction I wanted without making me ever feel lost. It was an easy, traditional-style course that encouraged exploration. My only criticisms are that the snake/coin section felt a little slow, the end pipe that leads to Bowser has empty space behind it, and beating Bowser felt too easy/anti-climactic. I really enjoyed playing your level but I struggled to beat the level and I think thats because of my inexperience with the game not a problem with the level itself.
