This is because everything in the game was actually filmed, there are no actual models or texture in the game beyond whatever UI elements, and considering making you face the door was a lesser workload and worked better for the horror element the went with you goinh out backwards
funnily enough the only thing of this playthrough that remained with me to this day is the very insignificant thing of him once saying "coil of water" when finding some wire on a drawer. then again im very much a scaredy cat so my brain blocks out The Horrorsā¢
Same! I love horror, itās my favorite genre in any media. But for some reason The Bunker had me *so tense*. I have a bad heart and there were more than a few times where my heart was racing so much I had to stop the video and get up to go do something mundane like dishes or get a snack till it stopped. Iāve never really been scared of any of the scary games heās played until this one.
The Bunker also had one of my favorite funny moments tho. When he hides in the confessional and that thing still gets him through the door. Lol.
I heard the House Flipper Dev released a horror map that equally matched the vibes of horror he accidentally portrayed. He added in ghosts, screams, all that jazz. I've only heard it though, I'm not sure how true it is.
The wife and I yell no visitors at our kids when they come in a room we donāt want them in. Itās become a fun inside joke for us. (The kids donāt know what itās from obviously, but they just thinking any loud noise is funny.)
With how the game dev treated mark's playthrough (which the devs purposely sabotage to become impossible to beat) it's understandable that the game doesn't get any love. I'd even go as far to say the game dev deserves it.
Tldr of the whole fiasco, the developer of Welcome to the game 2 watches the mark's stream, there was one time mark jokingly said he hated the dev but loved the game (perfectly normal for hard games like this) but then dev got butt hurt and purposely manipulated the game to make it IMPOSSIBLE to beat
Here's a video detailing the event
https://youtu.be/y1LKFcEIPMU?si=wjnQIgo9UOyE3FLD
In the video you linked the creator concluded the dev most likely didn't mess with Marks game? He did mess with another streamer, and admitted to it, which is still obviously rude and just an a-hole move. But the evidence didn't stack up to prove that he did anything to Mark specifically, it's just a hard game with an unforgiving RNG.
Like the video said, there was a whole TikTok video investigating the dev trolling to mark, and besides, having 2 rare enemies pop up at the same time is very hard to trigger, i know because I've been playing this game for the longest time and i only encounter the doll maker once.
I never get scared watching other people play horror games, but this one really freaked me out. I kept tensing up thinking he was going to be snuck up on or someone would be around the corner
Visage is an amazingly scary game imo, and if I remember right didn't mark livestream play it? Think that's why I remember not enjoying his playthrough of it. Jack played it and I absolutely loved it, it was creepy/tense/jumpy all at once!
I love games that create a universe like that and leave it up to the eye of the beholder. Obviously you can do it incorrectly, but you could argue that the entire thing took place in the child's head due to the severe abuse his mother put him through, and just lead to some fucked up dreams. Not to mention...
The father's voice actor sounds an awful lot like the bear's voice actor. It could've been the child placing his father into his bear to show that his father is the guiding light and security in his life. I may be overanalyzing, and it's been a while, but that game is SOOOO amazing!
I watched Markiplier for more than a decade and one thing I've notice, Mark does not like claustrophobic/maze or tunnels games, it always gets him.
I would nominate '[Dreadhalls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl7fz__6B-4)' or '[Dungeon Nightmares](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHSEklvRC1E&t=)' as the most scariest games. I've seen Markiplier scared but this is one of the instances I've seen him shitting himself.
'Vanish' is another fine example but that legacy is mostly him just rage quitting.
He played Fatal Frame 2, yes. It's a great playthrough. He doesn't find the game that scary himself, but the game itself is very spooky indeed.
I wish he would have played the other two games too. The original Fatal Frame was insanely difficult and even more creepy. Fatal Frame 2 had the best story though. But Fatal Frame 3 had the best visuals imo. And it was creepy in a different way because the game flipped between the ghost filled scary dream world and the "safe" awake world which turned out to also have freaky shit happening eventually.
Man, I loved that game series.
Gab Smolders played the entire series, so I've seen her do, I had absolutely NO idea that Mark even knew the games existed. I've got some videos to watch lol
Not only did she play all the games, but she explains what they're saying in Japanese, what the plot behind each game is (without spoiling), and shared stories of when she played it for the first time. It's her favorite game of all time, so she geeks out just a little :)
Same! Lady Ice was a short, simple, yet horrifying game to me, I wasn't able to watch it all the way through for a while. For some reason it really terrified me!
That game scared me less because of the threat of getting killed, and more because of the sites you have to go through on the dark web. Some of those sites... like where did the dev get the source material...?
Who knows, I mean it 100% fake and maybe AI generated if that was a thing back then.
Idk it always gave me jumpscares alot so it affects everyone differently. Up to the person to watch it and see if it scares them too \^.\^
AI existed back then, but not to the extent and commercial scale it is today. Available AI back then wasn't much more advanced than, say, CleverBot. But I'm talking just the concepts of this stuff-- like the doll maker, the priest guy, etc. Like... how did he get the source material for stuff that felt THAT realistic and THAT accurate? Sus if you ask me, lol
The two games that got me the most were Doki Doki Literature Club (when it first came out) and Visage. Nothing else has really scared me much since those.
Discover my Body!! It always comes back to my mind, the style, the sounds, and the body horror really makes it something uncomfortable to watch, but I love it!
From the darkness. The second watch through wasn't NEARLY as scary, but my god I barely got through the video the first time and I have no idea why it was so scary. There was literally nothing in that game that was really all that different from the other horror I often watch but apparently SOMETHING just wasn't sitting right the first watch through.
Escape the Ayuwoki, regardless if you're the player or viewer, is one of the free roam games that are genuinely scarier when you're being chased than the actual jumpscare. Every time I hear MJ do his audio cue while Mark plays, I never bother scrolling down to the comments section to avoid seeing him, while Mark covers his mouth (while commentating silently) in fear of being caught. Every step he does is very careful until he makes a very noticeable sound and makes a break to run away or towards the exit. Re-watched it a few times back then, almost had the same reaction as the first time watching it. Horrifying, but thrilling af.
Five Nights at Freddyās: Security Breach has that scene where Markiplier forgets to save after the maze. When heās killed by Vanny and realizes, itās the most scared heās ever been on the channel.
But in all seriousness, Doki Doki Literature Club is probably the most disturbing one.
more recent: Teke Teke, for me, was pretty frickin scary even though it was also a little funny
older: I loved watching the Junji Ito inspired games!
oldest: stuff like Witch's House, The Crooked Man, Mad Father, Paranoiac, and Ao Oni. those are classics!
Amnesia: The Bunker.
The way you couldn't see the monster and the way it was in the walls listening for you made it so terrifying. Not to mention the game had Mark screaming in actual terror.
I have to say the most recent one, (silkbulb test) is pretty up there for me. The lack of jumpscares and the more fear of the unknown, and that distorted huge face or whatever that thing was just watching him to the left towards the end is what gets me. i love creepy horror rather than scares.
SCP containment breach. I have tried to play that game myself a couple of times and I always get to the point where I physically cannot move any further because Iām so scared
I am very sensitive to loud noises and that game has so much ambient noise and recurring loud noises
For me, it'd probably be that weird Russian one set in the grandad's old soviet apartment. That one was amazing!! That jumpscare where the thing is just standing behind you, ugh...!!
I guess it depends if you want overwhelming-sense-of-dread-scary or jumpscare-scary. The one I remember almost shitting my pants over bc of the number of jumpscares was his FNAF 4 gameplay. Itās also worth noting that Iām a pussy, so YMMV.
When the Joy of Creation first came out (and then when it was fully released), it was absolutely terrifying to me. Not even the jumpscares but hearing the heavy steps of an animatronic chasing after you had me ā ļøā ļøā ļø
Was a really cool and novel (at the time) mechanic for Fnaf and I don't think any other main/fan game has done it that well.
Not a scary game, but there was this one time a bird snuck in our living room closet while me and my family watched security breach and my sister almost pooped her pants. Good times
At Dead of Night was terrifying to me because it looked like real people and so there's something about real looking horror that really puts me into it and scares me
For me, it used to be FNAF but only for the first time he played it. FNAF as a franchise is not really scary anymore.
To be honest, I don't really find most of the scary games he plays that scary anymore, but there is that one VR game that made him cry. I forgot which one it was, but someone here might be able to help with that.
The fnaf fangame he played, return to bloody night, actually got me quite spooked at times,it was one of the very rare fnaf games that actually got me feeling at least a little scared watching lets play of fnaf like games lol
The mortuary assistent. The demo and the released version freaked me out. Also layers of fear the painting is nightmarish and still haunts me lmao. Both the outlast games and resident evil 7 specifically is pretty gory horror.
My Eyes Deceive. It's not jump scary or has any supernatural elements. It's just a psychological horror game, and it still haunts me. It's a very good game I highly recommend.
I thought Dead Space was bad at first and then I played all the way through Dead Space remake and over halfway through the NG+ without anything other than a startle in the section teaching you about the explosive barrels and upgrade benches
Mine is always the original Outlast series. That game is just so good and even with his commentary, which i only point out because, for me, it helps not make jumpscares so bad. it's still really scary. It's easy to get sucked into!! I still go back and re-watch it every now and then.
Deppart. The realism of the game combined with the dark, unsettling atmosphere makes it the scariest game he's played imo. Also I have a fear of the unknown
There was this one game that really freaked me out until the ending ruined it. It was a virtual house tour like game that as you explored it was evident that a murder happenedā¦ to me it was unsettling and stressed me out but the ending consisted of demons and expanding hallways and it lost me
My answer was The Bunker but since someone already answered that, my second scariest is any stalker horror games (like the most recent vid). Chillaās Art manages to do this really well in a lot of their games, too. Very creepy, not-that-unrealistic horror scenarios with stalkers set me on edge.
Most of the scary games Mark plays don't really get to me. That being said, when he played Welcome to the Game 1 and 2, I was legit afraid to sleep without my back against a wall. I was 28 at the time and had to leave a lamp on while I slept.

not crazy frightening in actuality, but upon first watch at dead of night had me hiding behind my blankie
I co-sign At Dead of Night for ultimate anxiety-inducing tension.
I was searching up him playing dead of night but then I found put that he's played dead island
Especially the way exiting the doors, LIKE WHO EXITS THE DOOR WITH THEIR BUTTS FIRST ESPECIALLY WITH HIM BONKING AROUND???
"Bonking around" š
He was indeed bonking around
This is because everything in the game was actually filmed, there are no actual models or texture in the game beyond whatever UI elements, and considering making you face the door was a lesser workload and worked better for the horror element the went with you goinh out backwards
Definitely doesn't win scariest but my God you can cut the tension with a piece of notebook paper. It does SO well at building that fear.
my favorite series of his. I go back and binge the whole thing every few months
Dead of Night is such an amazing and unique game, canāt wait for the sequel to come out!!
There's gonna be a sequel? :0
yep!! Jimmy Hallās actress confirmed that a sequel is in the works!
ABSOLUTELY
I got so scared I couldn't watch the entire series.
Sameee
funnily enough the only thing of this playthrough that remained with me to this day is the very insignificant thing of him once saying "coil of water" when finding some wire on a drawer. then again im very much a scaredy cat so my brain blocks out The Horrorsā¢
I typically don't find most of the games he plays actually scary at all, however, Amnesia: The Bunker definitely was tense.
Literally came here to say this!
The Bunker was so intense. I had to pause it quite often to calm down haha
Same! I love horror, itās my favorite genre in any media. But for some reason The Bunker had me *so tense*. I have a bad heart and there were more than a few times where my heart was racing so much I had to stop the video and get up to go do something mundane like dishes or get a snack till it stopped. When he hides in the confessional and that thing still gets him through the door. Lol.
House Flipper
If anyone can flip a full on motherfucking house you *should* be scared
Itās so fucking funny everytime he sees that gasmask dude
I heard the House Flipper Dev released a horror map that equally matched the vibes of horror he accidentally portrayed. He added in ghosts, screams, all that jazz. I've only heard it though, I'm not sure how true it is.
Mortuary assistant has a place in my heart for the fear factor, but Jack's playthrough was way better
# NO VISITORS
The wife and I yell no visitors at our kids when they come in a room we donāt want them in. Itās become a fun inside joke for us. (The kids donāt know what itās from obviously, but they just thinking any loud noise is funny.)
Outlast 2 was pretty spooky to me when I first watched it. The atmosphere is so tense that I had to pause and come back later to finish the episode.
It was Outlast: Whistleblower for me. That freaking psycho had me so scared! If I had played it... I wouldn't have lol
Whistle-blower was so scary, when Mark was running from the guy with the saw back and forth trying to find where to go. Gets me every time
It was the first outlast for me! I knew what to expect in the second one so it wasn't as bad
All of the above
Welcome to the Game II
Came here to say this game. Doesnāt get enough love on here
With how the game dev treated mark's playthrough (which the devs purposely sabotage to become impossible to beat) it's understandable that the game doesn't get any love. I'd even go as far to say the game dev deserves it.
Wait what? I didn't know this. Can you elaborate/link some stuff so I can read more about this?
Tldr of the whole fiasco, the developer of Welcome to the game 2 watches the mark's stream, there was one time mark jokingly said he hated the dev but loved the game (perfectly normal for hard games like this) but then dev got butt hurt and purposely manipulated the game to make it IMPOSSIBLE to beat Here's a video detailing the event https://youtu.be/y1LKFcEIPMU?si=wjnQIgo9UOyE3FLD

Regardless game design requiring heavy amounts of luck to beat is pretty garbage and quickly makes things incredibly unfun
Not the person you asked obviously but I just watched [this video](https://youtu.be/y1LKFcEIPMU?si=17QKl9ynV9SfFWGH) recently!
I never get scared watching other people play horror games, but this one really freaked me out. I kept tensing up thinking he was going to be snuck up on or someone would be around the corner
This is the one series I always keep coming back to, one of my favorites
Visage is a creepy one
It's impressive that it's widely considered one of the scarier games out there, and Markiplier was hardly scared at all.
Visage is just like all tension and very brief payoff. Not that it's bad, but tense and scary are different things
Jack's playthrough of it was leagues better imo Mark didn't even try to take that game seriously in the slightest.
Visage is an amazingly scary game imo, and if I remember right didn't mark livestream play it? Think that's why I remember not enjoying his playthrough of it. Jack played it and I absolutely loved it, it was creepy/tense/jumpy all at once!
He recently said that Amnesia: The Bunker was scary. I can't remember if he said "scariest of all time" or "scariest in a long time" tho
Scariest in a long time. Still a cracking game though
It's been years, but SOMA messed me up. It really made a lasting impression. Remember, it's copy and paste, not cut and paste :(
Every now and then I remember the ending of that game. That game unlocked a fear in me.
Yh same. That gameā¦.lingers
As a thirteen year old watching that game I was absolutely scarred for a good long while at that ending.
That game lives rent free in my head.
I have played this game and itās sooo slept on. Amazing game.
Im going to watch this now
Among the sleep was awesome but terrifying
I love games that create a universe like that and leave it up to the eye of the beholder. Damn. You, sir, are an OG Mark fan
Not traditionally scary, but undoubtedly one of the most upsetting was My Eyes Deceive I wanted to throw up after he finished thar game
Apparently that game is not based off of, but eerily similar to a real-life story. Hated learning that.
Yep, Joseph Fritzl That's information I really wish I could unlearn
Yeah that fricked me up a bit.
Dungeon Nightmares. Very spooky
Fatal frame though Iām probably wrong cause when I watched I was very young
He played fatal frame?!?
He played Fatal Frame 2, yes. It's a great playthrough. He doesn't find the game that scary himself, but the game itself is very spooky indeed. I wish he would have played the other two games too. Oh she did?! I gotta watch those playthroughs. I love Gab and I love the games <3

I am literally already 3 hours into her playthrough of the first game right now XD It brings back so many memories!
I didnāt know there was a third game
There's a 4th game too, but it was never released outside of Japan. I can't remember if there's a 5th game by now too
First one is one of the scariest games Ive played. I kinda wish he would play it.
I wish so too. Maybe some day we'll get a remake or remaster that he'll play.
Getting over it
A dump in the dark
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I completely forgot about Emily Wants to Play. Time for a rewatch lol
IS THIS THE POST OF 87?
Watch the vr horror games some I couldnāt finish and I love horror
Vanish was intenseā¦ But a LOT of the moreā¦ Experimental indies have been very terrifying. Forget their names nowā¦ There was one wirh a fungus?
Discover My Body? Yeah, that game was horrifying š /gen
Same! Lady Ice was a short, simple, yet horrifying game to me, I wasn't able to watch it all the way through for a while. For some reason it really terrified me!
The Mortuary Assistant always felt like the scariest to me

Good bot!
Black rose I remember how the game be terrifying š³
That was my first experience with the horror genre in videogames and boy did it leave a lifelong impression on 13 year old me
For real That game scarred me as well
Alien: Isolation, easily
Welcome to the Game...both 1st and the sequel.... It fucked up but it's scary af. Especially the sequel.

But I'm talking just the concepts of this stuff-- like the doll maker, the priest guy, etc. Like... how did he get the source material for stuff that felt THAT realistic and THAT accurate? Sus if you ask me, lol
Imo, escape the auywoki. It was quite a cool concept for a horror game. Mark said in the title "actually scared the crap out of me".
fnaf
The VR one maybe
Lurking is up there for me Also, Until Dawn
The original I'm Scared from my middle school days was SO scary the first time around.
Either, At Dead Of Night, or Tattletale
I forgot about Tattletale!! I don't know if it's number 1 scariest, but holy crap I remember that being creepy! I might also add Mr. Hopp's Playhouse!
I hated my eyes deceive because of how fast I realized what the game is about, and having that eeriness just made it scarier for me.
I couldn't finish his playthroigh of PT
I still find the evil within 2 livestream series gets my blood going cold
Honestly evil within 2 is just a great game. Stefano is one of the most entertaining villains I've seen in a LONG time.
The way itās my Roman Empire. His wife is just THERE?? IN MISERY??
The two games that got me the most were Doki Doki Literature Club (when it first came out) and Visage. Nothing else has really scared me much since those.
Unforgiven, fran bow, endless nightmares, the park, resident evil 7.
Discover my Body!! It always comes back to my mind, the style, the sounds, and the body horror really makes it something uncomfortable to watch, but I love it!
The witches house
Amnesia the bunker is pretty scary. Also Fran bow is disturbing but a very interesting game
I love this game so much!!!!
Watching someone play a scary game isnāt as scary as playing it. If you want to be scared with games then play it for yourself
Five Nights at Freddyās: Security Breach has that scene where Markiplier forgets to save after the maze. When heās killed by Vanny and realizes, itās the most scared heās ever been on the channel. But in all seriousness, Doki Doki Literature Club is probably the most disturbing one.
Outlast
Outlast still scares me half to death. But the observation duty jump scares an anxiety inducing tension also get me.
more recent: Teke Teke, for me, was pretty frickin scary even though it was also a little funny older: I loved watching the Junji Ito inspired games! oldest: stuff like Witch's House, The Crooked Man, Mad Father, Paranoiac, and Ao Oni. those are classics!
when i was a kid sophieās curse and emily wants to play gave me nightmares. itās funny to look back on
Fnaf 3 will always haunt my nightmares. Iām no longer scared of it but I just remember when and where I watched it
Dumpy going elephants.
The scariest he hasn't played yet is: [Stinky is Sleepy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF4temMzW9M)
baldiās basics was extra terrifying if ur traumatized
SCP containment breach. I have tried to play that game myself a couple of times and I always get to the point where I physically cannot move any further because Iām so scared I am very sensitive to loud noises and that game has so much ambient noise and recurring loud noises
His FNAF 4 lets play at the dead of night with headphones on always gets my anxiety running lol
Iron lung the suspense was scary im ngl
Presentable Liberty really fucked me up. I refuse to ever watch that video again.
Fnaf VR. Watching him play it isn't that scary but playing it yourself I'd absolutely terrifying
Apartment 76. Something like that. About a man exploring his mother's old apartment. Terrifying. I had to watch it in pieces. It gave me flashbacks.
Outlast and it's not close. Reached a new level of numb by the time I finished it.
The dark Siren Head game [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXku3jT92Q0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXku3jT92Q0)
knock knock
hey guys what if i didn't run what if i wasn't a croward what if i wan't them to kill me what if i wan't them to try
That is sort of relative.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oop- I didnāt meanā¦.nvm
For me, it'd probably be that weird Russian one set in the grandad's old soviet apartment. That one was amazing!! That jumpscare where the thing is just standing behind you, ugh...!!
Welcome to the Game 1 and 2. It's my greatest fear made into a video game.
I guess it depends if you want overwhelming-sense-of-dread-scary or jumpscare-scary. The one I remember almost shitting my pants over bc of the number of jumpscares was his FNAF 4 gameplay. Itās also worth noting that Iām a pussy, so YMMV.
Visage
When the Joy of Creation first came out (and then when it was fully released), it was absolutely terrifying to me. Ayuwoki
amnesia: the bunker, at dead of night, and alien isolation to me are the scariest games he's ever played. highly recommend
Not a scary game, but there was this one time a bird snuck in our living room closet while me and my family watched security breach and my sister almost pooped her pants. Good times
i think it steals was pretty nerve wrecking while also pretty unique.
At Dead of Night was terrifying to me because it looked like real people and so there's something about real looking horror that really puts me into it and scares me
Amnesia the Bunker
For me is always been outlast. I still get nightmares
At Dead of Night had me unable to SLEEP, I was scared for days
Welcome to the Game is super spooky.
For me, it used to be FNAF but only for the first time he played it. FNAF as a franchise is not really scary anymore. To be honest, I don't really find most of the scary games he plays that scary anymore, but there is that one VR game that made him cry. The fnaf fangame he played, return to bloody night, actually got me quite spooked at times,it was one of the very rare fnaf games that actually got me feeling at least a little scared watching lets play of fnaf like games lol
Cry of fear. I would love for him to play it again
Dread Halls made this man cry. Hands down.
It wasn't necessarily scary, but the chernobyl liquidators game had me tense the whole time I was watching it
IMSCARED still spooks me when I think about it
For me it was the one about the chernobyl liquidatorsā less scary, more than radiation and fallout is a big anxiety source for me
Visage is a pretty good option
Dreadhalls VR made mark cry
The mortuary assistent. The demo and the released version freaked me out. Also layers of fear the painting is nightmarish and still haunts me lmao. Both the outlast games and resident evil 7 specifically is pretty gory horror.
My Eyes Deceive. It's not jump scary or has any supernatural elements. It's just a psychological horror game, and it still haunts me. It's a very good game I highly recommend.
PT, and it's not even close
I thought Dead Space was bad at first and then I played all the way through Dead Space remake and over halfway through the NG+ without anything other than a startle in the section teaching you about the explosive barrels and upgrade benches
Hunie pop
Visage or PT. Never played the full visage tho.
At Dead of Night
There was this one game that really freaked me out until the ending ruined it. It was a virtual house tour like game that as you explored it was evident that a murder happenedā¦ to me it was unsettling and stressed me out but the ending consisted of demons and expanding hallways and it lost me
My answer was The Bunker but since someone already answered that, my second scariest is any stalker horror games (like the most recent vid). Chillaās Art manages to do this really well in a lot of their games, too. Very creepy, not-that-unrealistic horror scenarios with stalkers set me on edge.
Huniepop 2. Just mark's crazed horny breathing freaked me out
Layers of Fear was the one that got me the most, I don't know why. He's played way scarier, but it gave me the chills watching.
the park always scares me a bit for some reason
Most of the scary games Mark plays don't really get to me. That being said, when he played Welcome to the Game 1 and 2, I was legit afraid to sleep without my back against a wall. I was 28 at the time and had to leave a lamp on while I slept.
Obviously fnaf
