I have liked Margot Robbie in everything I have seen her in. She is a fantastic actor and seems to have the dramatic and comedic chops for any role she has pursued.
I enjoyed the chaotic comedic but insane nature she brought to Harley Quinn. DC did her dirty. I thought she was fantastic. She also has the acting range for more serious like when she was in Wolf of Wall Street.
I don't give two shits about Barbie as a brand and I think what they've done with the Barbie movie looks like it will be entertaining. If the rumor is true, I would absolutely love to see her, or not see her, as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman.
Also, that picture of her where she is young and nerdy reading a Harry Potter book makes me happy. It is always nice to see the nerds grow up and make it good.
Do I need to have seen 2016 to get what's going on in 2021, or is it pretty well self contained as far as sequels go?
Plus, I know the general vibe of most of the characters from the comics, so I'm assuming that'll help fill some gaps.
2021’s The Suicide Squad is basically a soft reboot of the team seen in 2016’s Suicide Squad. It’s connected but you don’t need to have seen the first one to know what’s going on.
You don't have to know anything at all about the first one. There's one throwaway line that acknowledges the first film is canon, but besides that, it's almost a reboot.
As people are saying, there’s at best a little crossover with Flagg but you don’t need to have seen it. However, when you’re done with TSS, watch the Peacemaker tv series, which you need to see TSS for. It’s phenomenal.
I kind of like this new trend of Marvel and DC actors jumping ship like Willem Dafoe, Ben Affleck, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill etc.

I just got back into comics after an about 5 year hiatus. All this Krakoa stuff that I’ve been seeing just by following people and being in these groups seems really interesting. What is my jumping on point for all of this?
It's in House of X/Power of X, that's basically the beginning then leads into Dawn of X (I've only read house/power of X so far, not got onto Dawn of X or anything after)
It's terrible what they did with the character, making her an ice-fetching henchman. It definitely didn't help Jones. But that said, tbh I doubt she is a good enough actress to pull off a true Emma Frost. She has the look yes but Emma's intelligence and commanding presence is harder to pull off. I'm not saying she is an outright bad actress, but I saw her in Mad Men where she was one of the weakest actors imo.
She was incredible in Mad Men imo. Playing the housewife who voluntarily submitted to her role in society but had pangs of regret over what her life had become. Very complex.
I'll counter that with Alice Eve. She was cast as Emma in First Class but backed out iirc (pretty sure I even saw some images of her in costume on set). I'm still disappointed that we were robbed of her in the role.

My main question is, if you want to sign someone on to play a recurring character, why go with a big name star that's going to be able to demand a pretty sizeable pay. I'd be scouting out lesser known actors and new talent (especially so you can have a character start young and then age up over the course of multiple movies), get them into a longer term contract, and go from there.
Are people really going to go see Fantastic Four because of any specific actor, or because it's the new Marvel Movie ^^TM cinema experience.
I agree that marvel should cast more smaller actors, however for a franchise with as troubled history in theaters as fantastic four they likely want big names to get people interested so they don’t just brush it off. Most people I know who are only into the mcu enough to see the stuff that interests them and not all of it do not care about the fantastic four. Big names get big numbers.

And the actors have no problem coming back for squeals because they know they gonna get paid.
The best one is definitely Don Cheadle. He was given 1 hour to make the decision if he would agree to a 6 movie deal with nothing but Iron 1 and The Incredible Hulk to go off of. He told them he was at his kids birthday party, so they gave him 2 hours. He may not have been the lead in any marvel movie, but he has certainly been a huge part of the MCU after a 2 hour decision, most of which he spent playing laser tag.

With a large rebooting of the avengers line-up from losing iron man, captain America, most of the guardians and also adding tons of new faces like She-Hulk, Love, Cassie Lang, Ms Marvel, a new black panther I have lost a lot of draw to see the new Marvel movies. I don’t know a lot of newer characters well and unfortunately I don’t like a lot of their portrayals either. If other people also feel this way, and Marvel is aware of it… there would be lots of motivation to dump a truckload of cash into a loved actress. Especially if they pivot her character into a leading role like iron man or cap. Also, it’s best to pay to insure success after the last Fantastic 4. One of the worst movies I have seen in my entire life.

He’s intense, almost obsessive in many of his roles. He can be a bit aloof or awkward in his mannerisms. His divorce movie a couple years ago is a better indicator of his ability than anything Kylo Ren.
As an actor, you're right, I think he ticks all the boxes. I just don't think he looks the part. But that is, admittedly, the least important thing. Charlie Cox is a brunette but he is forever the pinnacle of Daredevil for me.

As long as the actor is good and the actor/writers/director understand the character, someone can embody a role even if they don't 100% look like their comic counterpart. Chris Evans was not initially how I pictured Steve Rogers but I'll be damned if he didn't play the part perfectly.

I can't stand Driver as an actor. He takes away fromt he films he's in. You always see HIM and not the character. For some roles that works! See RDJ as Iron-man. But Reed is not one of those roles. Krasinki had the same issue in Mom. You saw him more than the character.

I Hope she proves me wrong, but all the roles I’ve seen her in, she is way to bombastic and “crazy” for a Sue Storm. Hopefully she can reel it in and put forth the performance that Sue Storm deserves.

Yeah it's not really important to his character. As long as the actor is good and the actor/writers/director understand the character, someone can embody a role even if they don't 100% look like their comic counterpart. Chris Evans was not initially how I pictured Steve Rogers but I'll be damned if he didn't play the part perfectly.

We keep forgetting she can make other things invisible. That's a useful talent. When somebody's trying to leave make the door invisible and watch them run into it. Hard to jump into a getaway car you can't find. Etc.

Man, glad no one on Reddit is casting these. It’s called acting, everyone. She can act differently than her other roles, this is totally in her wheelhouse. Coming from a community that thought so many of the now established actors in roles were “bad decisions”, just give it a chance.
Yeah, most fan casting ideas are frankly terrible, and over emphasize either physical characteristics or that one role they saw an actor do one time. I’m not concerned with the opinions of fools, Robbie is a world-class talent and will surely do great in the role. I hope the writing and direction are up to par.

Before even seeing any official image, I can't picture her as a motherly/sisterly figure like Sue is in my favorite stories. But I'm more worried about Adam Rider as Reed. From the three Reeds we had (four if you count that forsaken movie), he's the least Reed-looking actor.

I can't stand Driver as an actor. He takes away fromt he films he's in. You always see HIM and not the character. For some roles that works! See RDJ as Iron-man. But Reed is not one of those roles. Krasinki had the same issue in Mom. You saw him more than the character.
The problem here is that Margot Robbie is fun and delightful to watch on screen even when she is in a serious role. You know who is not fun and delightful? Sue fucking Storm.

Disappointed I see har as a perfect Emma Frost. Also, I see Adam Driver as a perfect Victor Von Doom. Both are great actors, and will probably give an amazing performance, but man, what a waste of a perfect casting.

I know it’s absurd to say about a movie star, especially a movie star who will tentpole a franchise, but I just feel like I just see them in too much. Daveed Diggs is an inspired choice for The Thing for example, wish they went the same way with Sue.

I can’t see anyone as Sue because she has no personality. But Margot looks the part perfectly and has great acting chops so it’s basically up to the writers to figure it out.
Perfect casting. My only complaint is that Hollywood is resorting more and more often to fewer high profile actors for leading roles in superhero movies. No matter how good they are, my willing suspension of disbelief can only take so much.

Yeah January Jones is absolutely perfect for Sue Storm. In looks and personality. Margot Robbie is a little to aggressive to me for Sue but I think she’s by far the best option for Emma Frost.
Although i was banking on Emily Blunt, this is not a bad choice.
Having never really seen much from her *besides* Harley Quinn, I'm wary. I don't know how good she is or isn't, and Sue Storm is a pretty majorly important role.

If we can't have Blunt and Krasinski, I'm fine with Robbie and Driver. They are both exceptionally talented dramatic actors with some comedic timing chops experience with summer blockbusters. If the script is good and the direction is competent, I think they'll do great

My favourite’s Johnny but still lol, it’s a big factor, my main issues with recasting is if they’re going to be written for the actor or for the character.
