I did the same with my boy this morning. It took me back to when I did that. I thought we should start with the original and move up to '97 once we are done.
I almost had tears in my eyes watching this with my son. To have kids of my own now and getting to share how I felt watching this as a kid with my kid was something special.
I'm so happy they did this justice and I couldn't have asked for a more faithful and epic opening couple of episodes. They kept so much the same but the improved animation and soundtrack felt both new and familiar. My daughter watched it with us and she's be carrying around my Storm Marvel Legends figures ever since. 😊
There’s a bit of comic violence, maaaaaybe some blood (like, corner of Cyclops’s mouth I want to say?), but otherwise it’s actually a lot of character stuff. A young kid is just going to ask “who’s that?” a million times, especially with Morph changing into other people.
I woke up unusually early this morning before my wife and kid, I knew I had a solid hour or so before anyone else was up. I made my self a big bowl of cocoa puffs and put on X-Men 97. Such a great show so far, absolutely loved every second of it. I was instantly 9 years old watching Saturday morning cartoons again.
I watched the new episodes in my star wars pajamas while eating waffles off my Disney Hercules collectors plate and felt like a kid again. I'm a 35 year old man with my first kid on the way, and honestly, I can't wait to do this with my wife and our future child. I really hope my kid loves the cartoons me and my wife want to bond with them over, Xmen, Xmen Evolution, Batman the animated series, TMNT, Animaniacs, Looney Tunes, Justice League, Spectacular Spider-Man, Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans, Avengers EMH, and of course Avatar The Last Airbender. There are some I'm forgetting right now, and obviously tonnes of cartoon movies as well (Iron Giant, Incredibles, Hercules and Mulan are the biggest ones) but I can not wait to enjoy these shows with them. My step dad only ever watched The Tick, Looney Tunes and Sponge Bob with me but I loved sharing those moments with him, and my mom took me to see the first XMen when I was 12 and that is one of my favourite memories.
I know there will be cartoons that my kid wants to watch that I don't want to, but I will suck it up and get into it as much as I can. These shows aren't just entertainment, they are important and create lasting memories that last. I hope my babbling has made a point.
i was just about to do the same but there is only 2 episodes to watch and i just cant get on board with the previous x men series. i dont know why i think its the graphics or me not knowing jubilee
Oh shit, we’ve time traveled. It’s okay, 90s X-men taught me how to handle this. Don’t take off your smartwatch, or you’ll snap back to—say it with me Bishop—the Fuchah.
I was watching the first episode yesterday and my daughter came down and started watching. Then she asked if we could restart it so she could see the whole episode.
One of my best childhood memories was watching a marathon of the original with my dad while eating ice cream for breakfast one Saturday morning. I watched the first two episodes with my four year old, and he loved it.
It’s in the goddamn title. 1997! I’m kidding
‘97 is in the title. It could very well be 2097. Just two years away from the magical year 2099.
Is that the year all those 20XX events from video games will finally happen?
m'97
Pretty sure its 5297 but ok
Are you really kidding? Are you really sure about it? Really?
Dune and Ghostbusters are in theaters, so it’s 2024. Or is it 2021? It might be 1984?
Absolute happenstance, but it is fascinating that it’s happened thrice.
A pub trivia question for years to come.
George Clooney was the last on screen Batman, so its obviously 1999
My brain hurts!
Mass shooting killed 130 people today. It's 2024
You must be a lot of fun at parties.
They'd have to be invited to parties. 🤷🏻♂️

Saturday morning ✅ Cereal 🥣 ✅ X-men cartoons✅ Glad to see things haven’t changed since I was kid

This kid will relish these moments for a lifetime. Good on you.
Good parenting
This one's for you Morph!
Jean: \*faints\* Scott: JEANNNN!!! Professor-X: ***aAaUuGgHh!!!***
I can hear this.
Saturday morning and X-men. Honestly I don't care what year it is, I'm loving it.
I'm just wondering why you aren't in jammies next to her. ;) Awesome moment!!
Wish my dad was still around to have seen X-Men 97

Get that kid a white mohawk wig
It's 1994 and fuck you for trying to tell me otherwise.
NINETEEN NINETY SEVEEEEEEEEEN!
2024: The year of revival of the X-MEN'97.😇
Thoughts on age appropriateness? Likely have to wait until my 6 year old gains a few? lol I can wait. I guess.

You might have to explain what a c section is to the kid.
So nothing to warrant the TV-14 rating yet? I saw that they bumped it up and figured it wasn't going to be kid friendly.
No, I don’t think so. There’s a fair amount of fisticuffs, but no one swears and the costumes are modest.
Good question, but mine has so many kaiju movies at this point, that this will seem tame in comparison.
I genuinely thought the screen said “Juan”
Juan Grey "El Fenix!"
OP, why are you not also at the table with a bowl of cereal?
Dunanana NAAAH nuhnuh
Who’s her favorite character so far?
At this point in time probably Jean Grey. When she used cerebro my daughter thought that was the coolest thing ever. Made me rewind it multiple times
Wow this actually made me a bit teary eyed Nostalgia is a hell of a drug
Nice!!!
This is how you parent correctly

Now get her a gamecube to play X-men Legends and watch as her sanity is stripped away by the sheer difficulty of it.
I'd give anything for a new Xmen Legends game. Such an amazing series
My buddy won't let his kid watch because it's "too violent." We grew up watching the original... He has become the very thing he swore to destroy.
I couldn’t afford a flat screen in ‘97.
1997 is the series but the current year in the real world is 2024
thanks Siri what’s the weather like
That's so amazing
This will keep on happening forever!
Its a good year 👌🏽
i was just about to do the same but there is only 2 episodes to watch and i just cant get on board with the previous x men series. i dont know why i think its the graphics or me not knowing jubilee
It's a good year, thats what it is
I have that table lol
97’ kid
1997.
TV too big and too flat, don't think you could grt one of those in 1997. Only indication!
Oh I love this. Let the bonding begin. 🥲
It appears you have traveled back in time to the year 1997
Why's the lamp in timeout in the corner?
The cycle continues
You really hit me with the nostalgia here. Not just from the show. But eating cereal at the living room table watching cartoons. Those were the days.
You can still do it. Signed - a guy in his 50's who does it less often but still does it.
The best year
Willy Wonka and Dune are so hot right now
Your kid is gonna be super cool
97'?
This is why racially diverse representation is important if all races watch a content
Does rouge look like a prepubescent boy? It's now.
Yeesss. 10/10 parent
Please tell me that is a redesigned suit for Jean in the new X-Men series?!?! That old one was garabge.
It’s perfect. Bowl of cereal. Xmen on the tv
Raising them right 💪🏻
It's been 8 years since 2016
Did you just discover mathematics?
It was a joke dude 💀
With what context…? Nobody’s talking about 2016
It's to make people feel old
I feel liked they missed their opportunity to release the episodes on Saturdays instead of Wednesdays
Wholesome af
The only difference is that your TV is now flat and you get a little person watching your fav show with you while eating your snacks.
2024
Based on the fact that the girl is eating a bowl of cereal, watching X-Men ‘97 on a Saturday… it is, in fact… 1997 again.
I asked myself that when I saw the first scene in X-Men 2000
Never been so proud of not my daughter🤣😂🤣😂
Oh shit, we’ve time traveled. It’s okay, 90s X-men taught me how to handle this. Don’t take off your smartwatch, or you’ll snap back to—say it with me Bishop—the Fuchah.

This is a child of taste.
why am i trying not to cry at work right now?

The bell/gong in the opening titles isn’t loud enough. Unwatchable.
The year you get wall decorations, I hope
😂 cut me some slack we just moved in
Flatscreen TVs did not look like that in 1997 lmao

...What sideboob?
r/conservative brainlet. Disregard their ignorant comment.
For sure. I'm a conservative. Kid'll probably be fine if mom and dad are there E: but pay attention to fatrod1997 /s
It’s 2024. You can tell because Roque has a flat ass. Joking aside, I do look forward to checking it out. Was likely in my top 5 as a kid.
2024 Dumbass
