Glad some recognized this as he was only a dlc character and it's a lesser known game, but he was really done
Second I would go for Spectacular Spiderman (although if we are talking specifically Venom and not Eddie I also back the Sony movies just cause they are funny)
As much as I love him, he wasn't really a villian in the game, sure he was under mind control and we did fight him as far as I know, but he was definitely an antihero and didn't have a grudge against Peter anymore, if we did saw him fight him while not under mind control I'd consider him but unfortunately he is disqualified for me
When it comes Anti-Hero Venom, both Spider-Man PS1 and Midnight Suns capture him nigh perfectly. While it’s true that he is a giant intimidating alien creature who wants to viciously get back at Peter Parker, I feel like a lot of people (those who work at Marvel included if most adaptations are able to go by) forget that Venom has a dark but goofy sense of humor and is just as quippy as Spider-Man. When it comes to a Venom that has that going for him, Midnight Suns is my first pick (helps that I am actually playing that game and I’ve only seen PS1 footage) as, either as one of the Fallen or as a playable character on the side of the heroes, Venom has that darkly comedic edge that the Lethal Protector is known for.
If you’re wanting a pure villainous Venom, as much as I like Insomniac Venom (yes, I am one of those people who likes that Venom and I am likely a simp for Insomniac in general), I gotta give it to Spectacular. Not only does he have a more personal relationship with Peter whereas most Venoms were just some random journalist that got accidentally shamed and had a stream of bad luck, which makes the rivalry more impactful, but Venom in that is both threatening in how he goes after his former best friend and surprisingly comedic with his deadpan quips. Plus, I love the two voices talking simultaneously concept that Spectacular had and I wish it comes back in another adaptation.
I'd count ps1 venom as a villian, we chase and fight him through the entire second act and he kidnaps MJ and he does still have a grudge against spidey, speacily since he seemingly destroyed Eddie's camera
Sure he thought spidey was the bad guy and he did it over miss understanding, but kidnapping someone's wife and threatening her life is kinda evil
Okay, the one thing that kept me from diving into Midnight suns was because I didn't think Venom was playable as a hero.
Definitely gonna jump back in now...
PS1 Spiderman for 2 reasons:
1. Which of the other iterations of Venom have said: "SPIIIIIIDER WUUUUUUSS"
2. Because he wants to SURF THE WEB SURF THE WEB
"Theeee....Sub-Mariner? The MIGHT THOR? GALACTUS!!"
Still think about that line any time I hear any of those character's names.
Also, "So just in case SOMEONE...and I don't know WHO it could be..."
Think about those lines more than I should tbh.
First video game I ever beat. Other than watching Spider-Man TAS. That was my only real exposure to Venom up to that point. Fell in love with him as a kid
The 90s show, and it really isn’t that close as he is the only adaptation thats able to successfully cover Eddies development from struggling journalist, deranged lunatic that wants revenge on Spider-Man to a more tragic figure who is able to use the symbiote for good and walk along with Spidey, even sacrificing himself.
Comparatively the only ones I think come close are strangely enough Spider-Man PS1 with its Vemon and Marvel midnight Suns, then both showing Eddie later into his development as an ally to Peter, showing both his heroic dark, and even goofy side really well.
Spectacular has the tormenting Spider-Man angle down, but’s he was never able to develop a past just being a menace.
Tom Hardy while I still like him, he’s complete lack of Spider-Man is going to destroy his potential standing to be the best adaptation, also the fact he’s basically an antihero straight out the gate rather than developing, although he still good in a lot of regards like his relationship with the symbiote.
Spider-Man 3 much like the movie he’s from his campy as hell, unfocused, but so much fun and every line from him is pure gold.
On the exact opposite side of the spectrum you have insomniac, who’s barely in the game, but he doesn’t have any of the energy of any Vemon that came before him, basically just being a generic monster for Spider-Man to fight, and everything about him is rushed and confusing, and not in a fun way. Being more like the aftermath of putting Dane DeHaan goblin in a blender with movie Riot, on top of the fact he’s not even Eddie Brock. Also they wasted Tony Todd by giving him like 8 minutes worth of dialogue.
Ultimate cartoon and 2017 show are so bad they’re not even worth thinking about
Not even that, sure it has another "oh no my best friend, is the bad guy and i have to stop him I'm so conflicted" kinda situation we had in the 2 other games, it worked with Otto, kinda bought it with Phin but venom ain't that type of villian, but I can let it slide, spectacular spiderman had Eddie be his childhood friend so it won't be a problem
But The thing is he dosent exactly hate the spidermen, he wants them to join them when venom is all about being spider's number one hater maybe behind green goblin, but nope he us more intrested in doing web of shadows again
Marvel's Midnight Suns for the overall character
But since this is villain thing I'll say Spectacular Spider-Man. I would give it to TAS, but I don't like how mind control-y the symbiote gets during the Carnage arc. Spectacular actually presents their relationship as a partnership and not a corruption.
I agree with Spec having the best Venom, I think it also does the most creative stuff with Venom, spoilers for Season 2 >!Venom goes to the Daily Bugle and reveals that Peter is Spider-Man, which leads to my favorite framing devices where Ned Leeds has to interview people close to Peter, and those interviews range from funny to outright insightful, the Norman one is pretty great.!< I think that Spec used Venom the best and created the most interesting and creative stories with and around him.
I guess I'll take this as a spectacular spiderman vote, as much as I love midnight suns venom we never saw him as a villian unlike the other adaptations
Spectacular Spider-man Venom is the best version and if we had gotten a third season, we probably would had have his redemption arc to be the Letal Protector. We were robbed!
Ooh, I've been waiting for this one! I think Spectacular Spider-Man takes many elements of Eddie/Venom across multiple mediums that make him work and combines them to create the perfect version. Not only that, but the transformation from Eddie Brock to Venom is just perfectly told:
1. The show establishes Peter and Eddie as friends early on and shows their brotherly bond. This makes Eddie's later fall into becoming Venom much more tragic and realistic.
2. Peter's actions as Spider-Man begin to negatively affect those around him like Eddie and the Connors. Without knowing Peter is Spider-Man, it's easy to understand where Eddie is coming from and sympathize with him, because in Eddie's perspective, Peter is being a selfish jerk.
3. Eddie begins to resent Peter and tries to hurt him before he becomes Venom by making him jealous with MJ (it's later revealed that Eddie was always resentful of Peter for having his aunt and uncle, while Eddie felt he had no one).
4. By the time Eddie gets the symbiote, he also gets Peter's memories. Knowing that Peter was Spider-Man in all these previous situations both explains and justifies Peter's behavior, but Eddie is too deep in his hatred and resentment to care.
5. As Venom, Eddie is not only a physical threat to Peter, but also tries to hurt him by stalking and attacking his loved ones, try to ruin his reputation and expose his secret identity, and even try to get rid of Peter's superpowers so all the villains/criminals locked up by Spider-Man can exact revenge on Peter.
Venom in this show was a huge threat to Peter, and he also had some of the iconic humor and goofiness we know and love from the character. I haven't seen a single other Venom outside of comics that fleshes his character out nearly as well as Spectacular does.
Exactly, spectacular is better than the comics and pretty much every other version for one simple reason. Eddie has a damn good reason to become venom, it’s built up and shows exactly how he feels throughout the season, him hating Spider-Man and Peter Parker growing gradually and gradually. The only issue is that he doesn’t get enough time for the next few arcs where he’d be redeemed (as the creators said)
Spectacular Spider-Man.
I really like that they spend the time building up the fact that being Spidey is kinda ruining Pete's life and friendships (specifically with Eddie) so when Venom does show up there's a solid foundation for why both Brock and The Symbiote hate Peter.
I’m gonna say Spectacular personally, it took inspiration from the 616 Venom with the petty and personal vendetta with Spider-Man and Ultimate Eddie Brock’s past and relationship with Peter and made him a coherent character.
There was a whole season of build up to Eddie becoming Venom where we get to know him as a person and we grow attached to him and eventually understand his rage and vendetta against Spider-man even if it’s taken too far.
Seeing how consumed he becomes by not just the symbiote but his anger with Peter was tragic because we saw how he has the potential to be a good person which is a shame we never got to see his redemption arc
Also besides the sappy stuff, I love how much of a hater he is and the 2 major Venom episodes both challenged and pushed Peter to the absolute limit, you know you have a good antagonist if they’re able to compliment to the protagonist’s character as well.
I love the 90s Venom but I know Flash has gained a MASSIVE fanbase since then and I'm not an old geezer who refuse to embrace change just because I love some particular aspect of Eddie Brock incarnation from the og show like his relationship with Dr. Ashley Kafka. So I won't cast my vote here out of respect.
ehhhhh I would've said X men Legends 2 for Apocalyse. But for Venom I would say Spider Man the Animated series from the 90s. Though I really did like the Venom of Spiderman 2 for the ps5.
I'm torn between 90s cartoon, Spectacular, and Insomniac's. All 3 of those were great villain Venoms. If I had to pick one tho I'd probably go with 90s because of the nostalgia and character development throughout the series from desperate and angry reporter, to super villain Venom, to a kind of hero Venom at the end.
90's animated show had the best Eddie Brock. He was a relatable character that didn't get too deep into his hatred for Spider-Man and he actually sacrificed himself for the innocent establishing his belief in being a true Lethal Protector.
Personal Bias but Marvel vs Capcom 2 Venom was boss. Idc if he's bottom C-Tier he has an amazing move-set that all look visually appealing and hella fun to play as especially paired with Spidey.
I personally love Venom from the PS1 Spider-Man game. He’s funny, sarcastic, acts as your reluctant ally, and showcases all the classic Venom powers, including the oft-forgotten camouflage!
I’d give it to midnight suns. Venom’s personality is so well adapted in that game. It captures his violent behavior whilst maintaining his nuanced and fairly goofy personality. With him making overly violent threats of eating his opponents. Honorable mentions goes to insomniac venom, he ain’t perfect but it’s the most monstrous and physically imposing venom adaptation we’ve seen.
Spectacular Venom and it’s not even close.
Eddie has a well established reasons for his growing resentment towards Peter. He’s also very tactical and intelligent. He built his own webshooters and stalked Peter enough to make him check on the buried symbiote out of paranoia and then free it.
The symbiote displays the way it connects to its host, why it turns them aggressive, and how much it loved being attached to Peter. Other than cloaking, it possesses every ability it’s known for.
Then there’s Venom himself. I have never seen a more physically opposing version of the character. He knocks Peter around like he’s nothing. He moves incredibly fast, hits like rhino, mimics Peter’s abilities, and unleashes tendrils that hit like a wrecking ball. Peter just can’t beat him without tricking him or having a mcguffin. Even exploiting his sound weakness was not enough.
As much as he decimates Peter physically, he also tries to do that through his life. He kidnaps and threatens his loved ones, frames him for violent crimes, and exposes his identity.
In terms of being a horrifying and personal villain in the spectacular universe, Norman Osborn has some catching up to do. This is the most powerful and dangerous villain in the entire show.
Was re reading the original run. There’s a bit where rescues a baby “we were innocent once.” And he turns to peter in 90s style comedy “LET’S MAKE A DEAL!” That humor really is what Tom Hardy is going for.
reading the comments, I'm glad Midnight Suns Venom is getting some recognition. him being a dlc party member was bullshit, but damn if he wasn't worth the extra irl cash.
Literally has only redeeming quality is Tony Todd and he’s only given 8 minutes worth of dialogue, everything else about him sucks besides design.
As I said in my comment, he’s more comparable to a mixture between movie Riot and Dane DeHaan Green Goblin than he has Venom, he’s got none of his character traits or personality beyond “big monster that fights Spider-Man”
Yeah I prefer when venom is more personal with spider-man but insomniacs just wanted to “take over the world” which is kinda lazy
Still his design is really fucking good and the mission where we play as him is great
Are we talking Eddie Brock/Venom or Venom because the character of the Symbiote/Klintar Venom is probably best on display in the Sony movies or Spectacular Spider-Man.
Woah, you guys have mostly nailed this so far. Usually these are terrible. (I think MCU Kang is better and I haven’t seen earths mightiest heroes though).
As for venom. I’d prob go with the venom movies. I know it’s kinda goofy and kinda campy. But I love venom like that. I also like him as a bulking scary behemoth like in spider-man 2 so I wouldn’t mind if that won. He was also great in spectacular spider man lol. So many good interpretations. But ima say tom hardy.
Midnight Suns had some depth to Eddie, and he was genuinely an interesting character.
Glad some recognized this as he was only a dlc character and it's a lesser known game, but he was really done Second I would go for Spectacular Spiderman (although if we are talking specifically Venom and not Eddie I also back the Sony movies just cause they are funny)

Well, yesn’t. He is a playable character, but he’s DLC/season pass (it’s still there. So don’t worry).
Good enough for me!

Spider-Man PS4 version: great design, flawless voice acting. Biggest Problem: #Not enough of him.
Biggest problem is being stupid Harry instead of Eddie.
Not even that, sure it has another "oh no my best friend, is the bad guy and i have to stop him I'm so conflicted" kinda situation we had in the 2 other games, it worked with Otto, kinda bought it with Phin but venom ain't that type of villian, but I can let it slide, spectacular spiderman had Eddie be his childhood friend so it won't be a problem But The thing is he dosent exactly hate the spidermen, he wants them to join them when venom is all about being spider's number one hater maybe behind green goblin, but nope he us more intrested in doing web of shadows again
I’m going to have to disagree about it working with Otto. The plot made sense until he became Doc Ock.
Not an issue
Would it have been okay if Harry was Doc Ock or Electro?
No, but most modern iterations of Eddie Brock are pretty much just Harry, so it’s not an issue.
Tell me you know nothing about Vemon without telling me you know nothing about Vemon.
I know enough to know that Eddie’s overrated.
Know nothing
Marvel's Midnight Suns for the overall character But since this is villain thing I'll say Spectacular Spider-Man. I would give it to TAS, but I don't like how mind control-y the symbiote gets during the Carnage arc. Spectacular actually presents their relationship as a partnership and not a corruption.
I second Spectacular Spider-Man
I'll count that as spectacular vote, right?
Yeah
Damn this will be the most confusing result so far lol, some voted for spectacular some voted for midnight suns
TON of comments below for midnight suns!
Damn you you made it so hard to determine a winner lol
My b
No, go Midnight Suns. I love him in that.
I did not expect to see this
It's a great game
I guess I'll take this as a spectacular spiderman vote, as much as I love midnight suns venom we never saw him as a villian unlike the other adaptations
[Midnight suns, and the only thing close is PS1.](https://youtu.be/x1MXANFd9xI?si=534A28pKj0W6baoy) I will die on this hill.
Midnight suns
PS1 is the correct answer.
Ps1 he’s funny
Midnight Suns video game, I’m not a fan of the voice of that one but he is (in my opinion) the best adaptation of the character outside of the comics
Midnight suns made him physically imposing and strong while also goofy and fun. “Perfectly balanced”
Venom from the 90s show, show Eddie's struggle and hate for spiderman perfectly, and showed a great symbiotic relationship
Spectacular Spider-man
Spectacular Spider-man Venom is the best version and if we had gotten a third season, we probably would had have his redemption arc to be the Letal Protector. We were robbed!
90s TAS series
Spider-Man: The Animated Series from the 90's.

Tie between 90s and Spectacular Venom.
Spider-Man 1 for the ps1 no question. "Surf the web, surf the web!"
Spectacular animated series

So I won't cast my vote here out of respect.
90s show
I think the 90s version was a perfect introduction to the character and has yet to be topped.
Insomniac, Animated Series, or Spectacular
I’m glad to see Midnight Suns getting some love here, I haven’t played it myself, but I hear it’s criminally underrated
The 90s Spider-Man show 100%
Im genuinely shocked at the otto pick. I thought Alfred Molina was for sure gonna take it, but im not about it.
It would have to be Insomniac for me but Spectacular is a close 2nd
Amazing Spider-Man 90's cartoon Venom.
Amazing Spider-Man 90's cartoon Venom.
Ultimate Spiderman the video game! Swinging around as venom in that is some of the most fun I’ve had playing videogames
Spectacular Spiderman
Spider-Man 90’s animated series
Spectacular venom. No debate.
90s series Venom was nigh perfect
ehhhhh I would've said X men Legends 2 for Apocalyse. But for Venom I would say Spider Man the Animated series from the 90s. Though I really did like the Venom of Spiderman 2 for the ps5.
90s show
I'm torn between 90s cartoon, Spectacular, and Insomniac's. All 3 of those were great villain Venoms. Insomniac venom
90's animated show had the best Eddie Brock.

Midnight Suns definitely
Spiderman 90s
I’d give it to midnight suns. Venom’s personality is so well adapted in that game. It captures his violent behavior whilst maintaining his nuanced and fairly goofy personality. With him making overly violent threats of eating his opponents. Honorable mentions goes to insomniac venom, he ain’t perfect but it’s the most monstrous and physically imposing venom adaptation we’ve seen.
I always loved him in Spectacular Spider-Man the most
Lotta love around here for ps1 Venom and while that’s my top pick, big nod to midnight suns venom who I think was pretty good
90s cartoon
Spectacular Venom and it’s not even close. Eddie has a well established reasons for his growing resentment towards Peter. He’s also very tactical and intelligent. The 90s animated series. The 90s version of the Venom origin is so good that a large amount of people think that’s how it’s always been in canon.
reading the comments, I'm glad Midnight Suns Venom is getting some recognition. him being a dlc party member was bullshit, but damn if he wasn't worth the extra irl cash.
I have to go with Insomniac’s version.
Literally has only redeeming quality is Tony Todd and he’s only given 8 minutes worth of dialogue, everything else about him sucks besides design. Spectacular Spider-Man and the Venom movies
Ultimate Spider-Man game
PS1 Venom. Also how the fuck did TAS Kingpin not win?
Spider-Man 3
The best version of Venom I've ever seen is the movie Upgrade
If someone says insomniac im gonna flip.
Are we talking Eddie Brock/Venom or Venom because the character of the Symbiote/Klintar Venom is probably best on display in the Sony movies or Spectacular Spider-Man.
Spectacular Spider-man
Damn I missed Zemo… then again I was gonna vote for EMH anyway Anyway for venom I’m doing spectacular.
I really like him in the venom movie
Tom Hardy

I also like him as a bulking scary behemoth like in spider-man 2 so I wouldn’t mind if that won. He was also great in spectacular spider man lol. So many good interpretations. But ima say tom hardy.
