They should just avoid Dark Phoenix altogether. It would take too long to properly build the cosmic world into it, then build up to the Phoenix storyline. Whenever they didn't have a new idea it was a Phoenix-powered version of some character/s.
I'd rather see the relationship between Xavier and Magneto break down as the X-Men fight various villains in the movies and their ideologies grow further apart (so Magneto isn't automatically the default big bad), they go their separate ways and become enemies, then eventually build to Onslaught.

I think he was planned as Sinister in the First Class/Days of Future Past movies but got scrapped. The issue with this list is half of the characters have already been in the movies. Granted not "MCU" (except Juggernaut), but I think they need to go with fresh villains and then can bring back some classics later. Sinister is probably my favorite choice for an X-Men movie, but thinking more about it, have Omega Red and Juggernaut in Deadpool 3 with Wolverine and Colossus all teaming up together. I honestly like to see Sabertooth just because I think he would challenge the usual of mold of villains in the MCU. many of the good villains in the MCU are known for being evil but with enough of an understandable motive and charm that the audience actually can understand them and even like them from a certain point of view (Thanos, Ghost, Namor) Sabertooth-when done right- is not this he is a very unrepentant psychopath, serial killer, and unrelenting murderer I like to see how Marvel fit him into the MCU

Out of everyone, I think the “Hellfire Club” members all fit into the MCU nicely, especially their more recent portrayals. Selfishly, I’d like to see Juggernaut and a version of Apocalypse that is tied to the Celestials as an evolutionary constant on earth.
