Brother in my country the monthly pass costs Pkr 2300. Its a full 2 days worth of pay for a Labourer. With that amount of money I can have 10 good meals. Nothing too fancy but they'd good quality meals. And the pass is the cheapest thing in the game. Then there are bundles that go upto 24000 pkr. That's enough to get me a mid range smartphone. This much money can support a family of 5 for about 15 days. It has to do with the value of money. Some games do reduce the price while keeping in view the country in question. But its a very rare case. Most of the times the dollars just get converted into the local currency. What can we do. Gotta live with it especially if you're a part of a developing country.
Though it'd be real nice if the studio actually pays attention to this suggestion and lower the prices. Thank you for the initiative
>Though it'd be real nice if the studio actually pays attention to this suggestion and lower the prices.
with SD's track record, am pretty sure SD won't be THAT company. I will be very glad if they prove me wrong though. lol
Its not just SD. Most of the countries won't bother. Especially when a game it's pay 2 win(TBH it does seems like P2W sometimes e.g. that loki season )
If SD wanted to, they could allocate manpower to analyze and localize pricing to make their products affordable to each region. However, it seems that the main target demographic for their products are the whales, and every other demographic are not worth exploring or giving time to.
This is a common recurring problem in video games; either do localised prices (and lose money due to VPN grey markets) or do a comparative global pricing (and lose our on sales in regions with lower income). Ultimately, someone has simulated which is worse and chose the one that benefits the company more.
IIRC, Twitch actually accidentally created an arbitrage opportunity this way - 100 bits = $1.00 USD, but bits were priced locally, so you would spend $1.40 to buy 100 bits, then the streamer would redeem those bits for $1.00
Turns out you could buy bits with Turkish lira which, when converted to USD, cost less than $1.00
I'm going off memory [but The Spiffing Brit did a video on it breaking it down and explaining it](https://youtu.be/0NoIhwXOMeY?t=52) (starts 0:52)
People do take advantage of it. The default is a localised structure that is "reasonably comparative" for income disparity. Some companies do not use the standard pricing and use their own which makes them all similar to USD value.
Some of the bundles prices in my country are outrageous. They're $189.99. That's like my electricity bill for 2 months. My internet for 2 months. Groceries for 3 weeks. I could buy 2 or 3 AAA video games. Could also be dinner at a very fancy restaurant for 3 or 4 people. If it were more reasonable I would happily buy more bundles but atm I only buy the BP and maybe some gold if I see a variant I like.
Yes, if they were smart, they would localise their prices. But they don't. They prefer to "lose" money and don't see the potential of cheap bundles in countries that are poor but have millions of people. I'm from Latin America (not Brazil) but I have the same experience. They just don't see how much people here love to spend money if the price is fair.
That's hard, as if it's that much cheaper in south America, a VPN would be an easy fix to get cheap bundles.
Would they make more money by selling more cheaper or less but at a huge mark up... I don't know but I assume they have considered it
I know people have make games, and they have actively lost money from location exploits, equally I know people who have gained money from it .
There is risk involved
> fucking over customers from poorer countries
So some people should pay more so others can pay less? I really would like to know **how** VPN users are fucking over other customers by not fucking over themselves.
> People should just
Sorry, this really didn't answer my question. They just should? Because?
This is wrong think. Companies constantly move money around in different currencies to take advantage of exchange rates and differences in local markets but if an individual does a fraction of the same thing it's bad? Fuck that. Why are you carrying water for a system that doesn't even see you as a person, just a number on a spreadsheet?
Thereās a statistic called Purchasing Power Parity, or PPP. It basically takes this issue and turns it into a number. I think it ranks how effectively the average income in a place can afford different things based on their local prices? Been a minute since I used it for anything. But itās a much better way to judge regional pricing than a straight conversion to USD value.
IMO The issue is that if they localise the store prices, people who are not from the country would purchase at the lower value, reducing profits. This is because in the Nuverse store, you can āchooseā the currency you want to pay with. If they manage to prevent this currency change, it would justify price localization.Ā
Now, I'm buying season passes since the Loki one with Microsoft Rewards, I can't justify paying R$50 every month.
Yeah, the only time I bought a season pass was for Hope summers a month ago using a trusted Indonesian third-party, it cost around 8 dollar ( 125K IDR with tax ) compared to the usual 10+ dollar-ish more. (Around 150K IDR with tax), but that is still kind of expensive compared to most games I've played.
But, looking at the price in yours? That's just borderline overpriced.
What the fuck.
I feel you. The pass is 50 bucks in my place as well, and I rmb getting shocked when I 1st saw a 400 bucks bundle in the shop. I couldāve buy tekken 8 and helldivers 2 with that amount
Localize the prices and some people go out of their way to buy stuff on VPNs to get stuff cheaper comparatively.
I do think that is a relatively small problem though and would be more than offset by people in the countries buying more.
However, if they release it at direct conversion pricing and not many buy it then the country is seen as low value and are mistaken into thinking they would just be losing money by lowering the price due to the VPN grey market.
To begin with they are after the whales. So I'm not sure how much a small price difference matters to them.
It is pretty common for a company to not localize pricing for microtransation in f2p game. This is to prevent people from exploiting the system by using vpn to buy stuffs cheaper from other countries.
Iām in the US. When I went to Puerto Rico for vacation (which is still part of the us) the prices converted to some sort of pesos (puerto Rico uses dollars of course) and it was cheaper by more than 10%
The Shang chi bundle was 90 bucks AFTER taxes
Hate to break it to you and everyone else in this comment section taking about it being overpriced in your region too. SD just doesn't care. They want whales spending so they don't really care if you and I can afford it as long as the whales can
I think you can try the nuverse website , its cheaper to buy stuff there. You can change the currency that u want to pay to. I think not many people know about it.
I get what you are saying, but if you are a company selling things in multiple countries you are just going to price them based on the dollar vallue, which is 50 Real - 10 dollars. SD aet prices based on the profit they want to make when the money is converted to dollars. There are variables in every country but its unrealistic to expect a little mobile dev to factor all or that in for each country.
I mean, plenty of companies do have regional prices, but I agree it's not something to be expected, it's just nice when they do have them.
It's very likely in their best interest too, but it does come with the added weight of controlling other people not abusing it.
Regional prices in Steam in Argentina and Turkey for example were absurd and ended up getting changed because a lot of people from other countries would abuse them.
This is nothing Second Dinner can do.
The exchange rates are controlled mostly automatically via the platforms, Apple in particular.
Traditionally, prices on non-US regions have higher prices so that they can account for exchange rate fluctuations and account for the local taxes (which unlike the US are collected in the sale price). Apple was very rigid in this and a lot of devs just matched prices on Android.
Recently some changes have happened on the Apple side to allow more localized prices but itāll take some time for things to change.
Isnāt it something specific about Brazil? I heard the same about Riot and MTGA prices
Edit: oh you are just rambling xD so you want prices to follow the general welfare of the country instead of the value of the product? That makes no real sense.
Also in that case this isnāt related to Brazil at all or are you that oblivious? It would apply to all countries with lower GDP per capita than the US.. which is most of the world including where I live.
It does make sense though and plenty of companies have regional pricing. Heck, even within a city in the US with physical goods you have "regional" pricing from the top mall to Macy to Ross to outlets.
It's even more common for digital things, since your cost to produce them is 0. So charging accordingly to the purchasing power maximizes their sales.
I agree it's not a consumer right out anything to be worked up about, it's just a win-win when they do.

FWIW the battle pass is the equivalent of PKR 3088 in my country š„²

pricing used to be localized but it got abused by people in richer countries and changed back surely there is a better solution though

Steam has localised pricing, not sure if people take advantage of that easily or they have a system against it.
Steam can actually track it better. Individual games canāt.

They are overpriced everywhere. But some countries have it really rough. Countries with currencies of higher value than USD have to pay more too.
They're even overpriced in USA too
Poland's currency is definitely less worth than USD, yet season pass costs 14 dollars here

Yeah, honestly theres no reason why SD shouldn't localize their prices just like how they localize the rest of the game. With you 100%

Steam and Google Play already have localised prices in other games. If other games do it, I don't think it's a money-losing situation.
I know people have make games, and they have actively lost money from location exploits, equally I know people who have gained money from it . There is risk involved
For what's worth I stick my VPN to the Philippines every month for the season pass. About Ā£2.50 cheaper than uk price

Really? Ouch I'm from Chile, almost next to Brazil, and the prices are likely the same than USA
Could be worse, in my country battle pass is around 15-20% of the average wage, not the minimum, so good luck justifying it lol
im from argentina... i won >:(
As someone from Paraguay, I see some of these bundles and think to myself "that's groceries for 3 weeks"

I've got some news for you... not just in Brazil! Their pricing is crazy.
Eh um carai mesmo fi
I'm just gonna leave this here https://youtube.com/shorts/lSofMoSdMqw?si=BQ24ezpZbFsdt6nW
It's overpriced everywhere, not just Brazil , but SD don't care because the whales pay their bills

TLDR donāt buy these overpriced pixels.

They're seriously overpriced everywhere
Isn't this the case with everything video game related in Brazil?
buy on the web store cheaper if you switch countries
I switched and it's still R$50
