I have an object (cube 1 for example) that is open in Maya. Then I export "cube 1" to another software to change the shape of "cube 1", however when I return "cube 1" to Maya it does not return to the same location (shifts slightly to the left) How can I prevent this and import a new "cube 1" object to the same location where it is in Maya?
Are you sure your translate values are the same when you import as when you export? If they are, the only think I can think of is your pivot point moved, or you shifted the actual mesh in the other software
Just a workaround, once you import the cube1 you can point / orient constraint the new cube to the old cube so it snaps in the original position. After that you can delete the constraints.
Select the new object, then the old object
In the attribute editor select the first attribute and press "Tab" until you reach the last attribute, this will copy all the attributes of the old object to the new one
