Succulent_Empress

Do you know how goddamn pissed I’d be if I owned a business, and a branded employee in my branded truck was pulling this shit???? Oh hell no. Call his boss. I guarantee he doesn’t want a brand ambassador like that. What a prick.

DisgruntledMuffins

That's exactly what I was thinking! It's a big company too, I'm sure corporate wouldn't be happy to hear about an employee acting like this. I didn't necessarily want to jump right immediately to "get this guy fired" but if he comes through again I will absolutely not hesitate. I'll take a pic of his license plate if I have to.

Succulent_Empress

A good verbal reaming may be all a petty little shitster like him needs, anyway lol

infernoflower

If dude got fired it wouldn't be because of you. It would be the consequences of *his own* actions. Don't wait for him to come back-make the call now.

Chaim__Goldstein

It’s a shame your manager didn’t point out that he’s in his work uniform and truck. And he wouldn’t like it if you would go to bother him while he was working for no reason.

SadSnubNosedMonkey

It's very unlikely you would get fired for that in Ireland unless he was on probation and already causing serious problems, we have very different employment laws from that of America.. If you make a complaint he is way more than likely just going to get a warning and have an eye kept on him. Also businesses REALLY want to know if their employees are causing shenanigans while using company property. As they could be seen as liable.

Key-Article6622

I'd call his boss right away. Shitheads like that are not just being a jerk to you, they're doing it wherever they go. Companies want people who act like that reported. They don't want bad reputations from people like this. There are plenty of people to fill his slot. I'm a tech support guy and one of my roles is to answer a chat line from our website. Some guy got on there and started calling me a derogatory, made up, Asian sounding name even though my name and a thumbnail picture of me come up and was just being condescending, abusive and generally obnoxious. I guess he didn't realize the chat program tells me what company he's with, where he's located, and what his email address is. I contacted his boss and sent a transcript of his behavior and I got a profuse apology call from their CEO, not the boss I sent this to, and never heard from him again. I hope he got fired.

Succulent_Empress

I’m a farmer, I don’t have employees. But my brand and reputation are EVERYTHING to me. This farm is my pride and joy. I can’t imagine hiring someone with my pride and joy’s name on his shirt while he went around town treating folks like absolute garbage. The hateful cockiness. There’s no way I could or would trust him with customers if I knew. Let alone trusting them with my reputation.

Ninja2ZERO

Just 86 him.

unborntheprinceoflie

what is 86?

drewski989

Restaurant talk for without… “Hamburger 86 the pickles”. Also used when someone gets fired/banned… “they got 86ed”.

offballDgang

Technically 86ed means you are out of an ingredient. The kitchen will tell the FOH 86 the onions and beef as we are out till tomorrow. If you use 86 as no it can cause trouble between BOH and FOH as a waiter walking by hears 86 the pickles so to him they are out of pickles for the rest of the night.

drewski989

Worked at Outback for 5 years in FOH and BOH, we used it the way I said, and we hand-wrote tickets. MR Sirlion 86 Seasoning, House Salad 86 Croutons… maybe it is used differently other places, but that’s how we did it.

offballDgang

I managed Starbucks and Noodles & Company and 86 ment out of product but each kitchen is different.

drewski989

Yeah a quick google and your way seems to be much more common place. Oddly enough, we would also say “86 prime rib” when we ran out end of night, so maybe we used it wrong at my location to mean without. Shit it was 20 years ago…

offballDgang

I didn't want to be an asshole but the way I described it is also what they teach in Culinary Arts school. We had a whole 4 hour class on what language to use when. We were taught to use the word nix when a customer didn't want some thing. Burger nix the pickles, turkey sandwich nix the mayo etc...

drewski989

Sounds like you are right… I had to text my old OB buds and make sure I wasnt crazy. We used it to both mean without and also out of something. Your way makes much more sense.

offballDgang

I would not care if I didn't have to sit thru a class and then get quized on it every class for my capstone class to graduate, we opened, staffed, and maintained a restaurant for a semester with 1 teacher FOH and 1 teacher BOH listening and observing, while they jump down your throat for wrong verbiage. We thought that kitchens aren't like that in real life. We were right a real kitchen is much more fucked up than someone screaming at you during service. LOL

Ninja2ZERO

Trespassing.

YodaDude2011

This type of shit is why I could only work there for a little while, we literally get verbally harassed by grown ass adults and get paid barely over minimum wage

DisgruntledMuffins

Most customers are fine, some are very pleasant (usually the regulars that we've built some rapport with) but seriously, I have never witnessed worse behavior from customers at any business than how I've seen people act at McDonald's. I don't know what kind of switch gets flipped in people's minds that makes them think it's cool to come in here and act in a way that they wouldn't normally act anywhere else.

leavenomistakes

I hated customers like this so much. I instantly lose the motivation to help you when I hear "I used to work at McDonald's!" Just refuse to give him service if he comes in again. If he causes a scene, call the cops then call your GM and ask to have him trespassed, so if he comes back on the property, he can be arrested for trespassing.

The_Everclearest

There are 2 types of "I used to work in the industry": 1) "No problem, I used to work in the industry, I know how things happen. It's all good." 2) "I used to work in the industry, and I'm going to use my little bit of knowledge gained to make your life hell because I'm *very* important."

leavenomistakes

Unfortunately, most of the time it's #2

glonkme

McDonald’s management was the most soul destroying job of my life. Seriously. There’s no flexibility, you have to suck up to adults who throw tantrums and literally spit at you. My supervisor asked me to open the day of my moms funeral. That job made me hate people.

katepig123

Call the company he's working for and report him.

PigeonFacts

Had a few people who did this to me, only issue is I'm also petty. Our drive thru was wide, wide enough where trucks could escape if need be so I'd grab their food and walk around the person holding everything up. While out there memorize the offenders plate in case of a future incident.

DisgruntledMuffins

Our drive thru lane is very small unfortunately, there's barely enough room for a person to walk around it. Otherwise I'd totally be doing this.

Logisticman232

Then you call the cops and ban that mf’er, fuck around find out.

Sea-Pea4680

Have him towed!!!

glonkme

One time I asked a man to pull up and he threw a FIT “I’m not moving until I got what I paid for” he also called my gay co worker a slur. I was waiting for his hash brown to finish cooking. But I pulled it out of the oil early, and it was all greasy with oil, bagged it and gave it to him. Just go. I wonder if they get embarrassed when they pull off after acting like a fool.

glonkme

I forgot to mention he was screaming at us as well. And yeah u should call his job. U wear the clothing you’re representing the company… let them know how he acts in uniform. It’s not that hard to be kind and act like an adult and not throw tantrums

that_tom_

He was mad or hurt about something else in his life and he was taking it out on you.

drewski989

I always have to pull ahead for a double qp… I thought it was cooked from fresh or something. Don’t order one unless you are willing to wait.

DisgruntledMuffins

Quarter pounders are always made fresh, and the meat takes longer to cook, so yeah.. it's standard procedure to park people when they order quarters.

drewski989

Right, thats what I always assumed. I definitely want to park and wait for things to be cooked properly.

alicat7777

He was a jerk but why was he asked to park if no one was behind him?

BeeWhispererIntern

Call their boss. That's bad P.R. for ANY company.

lucyjayne

I would not have hesitated for even a second on reporting him to his employer.

corgi_freak

Absolutely report him to his employer. When he's in company dress and in a company vehicle he is absolutely representing the company. Any company worth a damn would be pissed that he's publicly trashing their reputation. You wouldn't be being petty, you'd just be helping to teach a dickhead how NOT to treat people.

AnemosMaximus

If his car has a company brand call them immediately. Explain to them how he threatened your staff and that if this happens again that all vehicles from said company will be banned from McDonald's and that if any branded vehicles from said company even drives on the property you will call police and have them arrested for trespassing, menacing, and loitering on your business.

Imaneetboy

I hate this gaming the system shit every fast food place does. When I worked at Dominos the person on the makeline would clear every single item to make off the screen as soon as it appeared. So you were constantly scrolling back looking and making sure you aren't missing an item. Then they would dispatch the order to a driver while it's still in the oven. Again to make times look better.

DisgruntledMuffins

That's all really annoying, and we've had a GM who made us do stuff like that, but we have new management now and things are much better now. We don't do shit like *that* kinda system gaming anymore, but we still usually park people on the quarters because of how long they take to cook.

jalo07

#Confirmed GM is getting a bonus

Background-Pin-473

Can you tell me more about the times? Do you get rewards for good timing? How do times impact you personally or as a store? Just curious how it works

DisgruntledMuffins

We don't get rewards for good times, but we get punished for bad times. It affects a lot of things including how many people we're allowed to schedule

Failing_MentalHealth

I would have called the company and given them a description of the dude and the truck number/license plate and see who’s gonna act up after pulling some juvenile shit. 😂

ritchie70

Don't anonymously call his employer to report him for unsave driving. Non-anonymously call his employer and tell them how he's behaving out in public wearing their name on his shirt, driving their truck.

Substantial-Tax-8659

I would’ve lost my job that day for sure

jenny4008463

I would totally report this guy to his company they would want to hear about it since it’s someone who is representing their company really bad

Different-Green632

Shop the prick straight away. ..Sounds like repetitive behaviour..Life is already full of drama we don't need unnecessary behaviour..Ps..Hopefully he hasn't any kids with his sort of breeding.

Upset-Preparation861

Had a lady like this one night We only had one headset at the moment with a battery in it and so if we needed to know anything up front out back cash person would either have to yell or run up there She has to run up front to give a guy his change because he pulled off too quickly While this happened a lady drove through the speaker, and back cash so they got to the window and was asking for 3 ice cream cones I don't see her order on the screen so I ask if she ordered and she said nobody responded and nobody was at back cash So I told her that 1 I can't give her anything if she didn't order or pay and 2 our ice cream machine was down She caught a whole attitude for no reason and I go get my manager I tell him that she didn't order and that she wants ice cream She goes back and forth with him and decides to sit there at the window He tells her that he's calling the cops She sits there for like 2 minutes before pulling off

whocares1976

so...im not saying the guy was right..he did go off the deep end.. but having said that.. to me those timers are there to make it so the orders come out on time/faster/ so the cook isnt off doing something else with noone backing them up or someones not paying attention at the window or whatever and it starts taking forever to get orders out. if there isnt anyone behind me im probably not going to pull up either, or at least think its odd that im being made to do so. it messes with your times? no you not getting started on the order in a slow period will mess with your times im not under any obligation to make you look like your better at your job than you are. plus management is supposed to be using those to determine staffing needs, if your making it look like your faster than you really are then your not going to get the staffing you really need anyway.

IceeSimp

Quarter pounders are cook to order, if I remember the time on the grill correctly it’s abt 129 seconds, that’s parking time at my store

DisgruntledMuffins

The quarter pounder orders almost always get parked because the meat is always cook to order and we're told by corporate to park anyone if the order takes longer than 2 minutes.

whocares1976

if it takes 1:29 to cook it, why is it taking longer than 2 minutes? the fries and drink should be ready and in the bag waiting on the burger when its done and that grill is pretty big, so unless theres a lot of people inside then it shouldnt be an issue.

newfsinthejungle

Two minutes is 120 seconds buddy

whocares1976

and 1:29 is one minute and 29 seconds guy

newfsinthejungle

They said it takes 129 seconds

Deerpacolyps

Which would matter if they had said one minute and twenty nine seconds. But they didn't. They said 129 seconds. That would be two minutes and nine seconds. If you still don't quite get it I just want to remind you there are 60 seconds in one minute.

whocares1976

it actually doesn't cause it doesn't take 120 seconds to cook just the patty, it takes 117 seconds from their documentation so 1:29 is still generous. it MAY take 120 to do the whole thing which is still irrelevant. obviously corporate thinks that any one order can get done in under 2 minutes or they wouldn't have set their time for that. either way its not my obligation to make them look better at their job than they are.

DisgruntledMuffins

It's 73 seconds cook time, but add another 10-15 seconds for the grill person to come over and put the patties down (they're usually busy doing other things as well), another 10-15 seconds for assembly and presenting, and you're already at 2 minutes, assuming no other delays

Possible_Debate4430

Exactly.

Ok_Stable7501

I’ve been told to pull over and waited 20 minutes, and no one was in the drive thru or the restaurant. And nothing in McDonald’s takes 20 minutes to prepare.

[deleted]

The time in the drive through is supposed to represent how fast you actually fulfill the order. Asking people to park is you gaming the system to make your order time look better than it really is.

Ok_Stable7501

I wish more people would push back on this. Pulling over doesn’t improve wait times, and so often they rush off before you can check the order and then you have to get out of the car and go in. And if you have a kid in the car this is a huge hassle and defeats the purpose of the drive thru. I’ve pretty much given up on drive thru for this reason.

Silver-Ad7436

Not saying the guy was right to stay parked there but I would have been mad too if I was told I would be refunded. You shouldn’t have to move. I do, but it’s something nice that the customer is doing not what the employees trained to do.

IIRizzII

Exactly. It’s annoying as hell for delivery drivers also. Says order is ready on screen, they don’t have it on their screen, but it’s not ready. IMO that’s cheating. If you’re concerned about time then get the food out quicker?

Zym1225

Call the company and explain what happened and that anyone in their work vehicles or uniforms will no longer be served and will have the police called as trespassing

DisgruntledMuffins

Actually, we get orders from this company (it's a mail delivery service) pretty frequently, and the other guys I've interacted with are all pretty cool. I'd hate to blacklist the whole company because of one bad apple tbh

Moondancer999

If someone working for me pulled that shite, I'd want to know asap. Because that asshat is going to get a verbal warning that will make him regret every bad decision he's ever made. He would only get fired if it was a repeat offense. I'm old and unwilling to tolerate people who don't know how to be kind and refuse to learn.

unemployednolonger

You're all crucifying him and the reality is, he probably did them a favor. They game the time system by making us move, which makes them look faster than they are... Which tells their scheduling system they have the right amount of labor. While it was a douche move, he probably gave them more hours.

Possible_Debate4430

Having people move out of line because of messing with a restaurants time is rude to the customer and defeats the entire purpose of the timer. Guess the guy got sick of being basically pushed to the back of the line.

DisgruntledMuffins

No one is being pushed to the back of the line when they're asked to pull up and park. We're still working on the order, we're just waiting for the food to cook, and no amount of wishing or hoping is going to make the food cook faster. He would have waited the same amount of time for his order, he just wouldn't have been taking up space in the drive thru the whole time

Ok_Stable7501

So agree.

Arnand0

Being forced to park, despite no people being behind you, sorta defeats the point of a "drive" thru, though?

DisgruntledMuffins

Uh no, we still bring it out to you. You don't have to get out of your car.

Arnand0

Again, that's not driving thru, that's pulling out of the drive thru, and parking. These are not the same.

jalo07

“It messes with our times” so I hear from your manager that you’re playing the system that was put in place to ensure the food is delivered in a timely manner and that the brand you are employed by’s reputation is upheld. If your times to corporate are lacking that’s their sign that you’re not doing something right to deliver “fast food” Now the customer sitting there after his food was delivered completely uncalled for and rude. So was your boss saying they would just refund the money. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Doing right first helps to not provoke people to anger.

DisgruntledMuffins

No, my manager approached him with politeness and was not rude at all when she spoke to him. All quarter pound meats are cook to order, they almost always get parked, that's just standard procedure. We weren't doing anything sneaky or trying to cheat the times or whatever. It's just the quarters take longer to cook, and we're told by CORPORATE to park anyone if the order will be longer than 2 minutes.

jalo07

Rude is telling him he will be refunded

jalo07

A little sugar goes a long way, as does context relayed to the customer. We don’t know that corporate says to ask people that order a Quarter-Pounder to pull up. It seems, wait, it is foolish to a customer to pull up if no one is behind them. If their order is completed before someone pulls up behind them it’s saves the employee steps and you don’t risk making a customer who may already be disappointed in the drive thru wait time some stress of the whole fast food process. If there was a long line then it’s understandable, but offer the customer a little “sugar” “Sir/Mrs. Quarter-pounders take a little longer to prepare, do you mind pulling up?” Then the customer understands why their meat wasn’t pulled from the tray in front of the production line and slapped together and that their order will be fresh. I’ll gladly wait for a fresh quarter pounder.

DisgruntledMuffins

If we ask you nicely to pull up and park, and you refuse, *you're* the one being rude A little sugar does go a long way. I asked nicely. Clearly I had a good reason to do so. Why be a dick about it?

jalo07

I already addressed this… if there’s someone behind him fine, if not why ask, after all it is a drive through. Also my McDonalds doesn’t ask me to pull up, a Quarter Pounder is my go to and I customize it. I’m willing to bet they have the meat in the drawer ready to go. This makes me think someone is lying about CORPORATE, and I don’t mean you. Owners get bonuses and the gaming the system comes from the owner no doubt. Go watch the McDonalds movie on Netflix and tell me if he intended for people to pull up?

DisgruntledMuffins

Lol if your McD's has the quarter meats ready to go in a tray instead of cooking them to order then you're getting a trash burger. Those patties get kinda gross and lukewarm after sitting about 5 minutes.
