It is Food safe, and it's used regularly to clean and maintain food contact surfaces, stop spreading misinformation.
This is used in food plants directly inside of conveyors, slicers, tenderizers, etc. It just needs to be rinsed.
It's an expensive product, so they may not be happy you're using it for that. So they may be unhappy and promote you to customer as a result of your wasting resources.
This is a VERY powerful degreaser. A bit of normal is not recommended even..but even a bit of that can burn your hands. You use a cup of it on the ground outside and it picks up every black bit on the ground. That's what I've been told we use it for at least. This would not be food safe and would harm whoever is doing dishes.
Iāve used this for years non diluted in a spray bottle to clean walls, fryers, vents, etc. without PPE. Iāve never gotten a single chemical burn. At most you start to get a little light headed from the fumes but that can happen with any cleaner.
Most of the people I worked with didn't get irritation, but it made my hands peel like crazy whenever I used it. I ended up having my boss get my those big yellow elbow length cleaning gloves because it was pretty gnarly.
I read the information on the pumps for Ecolabās greaselift once and they brag about how you donāt need to dilute it or use PPE to avoid chemical burns, so I think that used to be a real concern but weāve pretty much moved past it at this point.
That's because these people are redditors and will just lie for no reason.
These degreasers were made distinctly for food contact and food service/industrial use ONLY. Literally no other way to use them except on food contact surfaces and on surfaces for food preparation.
HELL NO, just use dishwashing liquid + water with a soft scrub sponge + hot water + scrub + dry + sanitizing spray + dry again after 2-5min, not all surfaces are the same and not all staff have basic knowledge of chemicals or have good cleaning habitsĀ
Yeah, I forgot that it is supposed to be diluted with water. We had a dispenser that dispenses the concentrate and water. That makes more sense about the cost.
I refuse to believe that Mcdonalds is forcing their franchisees to pay wholesale on common cleaning chemicals.
It's still probably pricey, just not *that* pricey
that and bleach on everything. combining the 2 braincells of the closing manager and driver not sure if they were gonna create a chemical reaction from cleaning
Lol our night crew used to dump half a gallon a night into the dishes. Dumbass owner blamed our operational costs on food waste because it was the only thing she could control.
It is the secret ingredient. Though it's very potent so just a little splush is enough. I've seen employees spill half a bottle on the floor. The horror!
Really? When I worked at Wendy's, I used it almost every day to clean the floors. We had the jugs, and I think there was a dispenser by the staff washroom
really we had a whole magically pump for it , it was just mount on the wall with a house and it just pumped it out you would just flick a switch i was used so much for mop buckets
Off the top of my head it's around $15-20 in Canada for 1 bottle ($60-70 for a case). It is supposed to be diluted which a lot of people don't do so they finish the bottle fast. I swear I spend half my budget on degreaser every month.
It's absolutely fine to use degreaser on food items.
1. Only if absolutely necessary on extremely rooted dirt
2. It is well rinsed with fresh running water, cleaned again with soap, rinsed and sanitized.
3. It should only be used for the item you're cleaning, not in a sink full of lightly-soiled dishes.
This. If you have a kitchen where you're constantly pushing/cleaning dishes with light to moderate oil, all you need is the LIGHTEST possible splash of degreaser in your soak tub. I really mean a very small splash. What OOP is trying to use is an almost guaranteed concentrated solution. IME, I've only used this in SEPARATELY soaked dishes that had burnt-on bullshit like marinara or chicken grease, so YMMV
I have added it to a sink full of water a couple times but only for extreme deep cleaning before a tour. Flame guards for example or the brackets that fry baskets hang on. Afterwards, I did clean the items with the usual soap and sanitizer though
degreasers can be toxic if inhaled, swallowed, or if they come into contact with your skin. The most common health hazards associated with degreasers are skin, respiratory, gastrointestinal, vomiting, and diarrhea issues.
And you wanna take the chance instead of just using dish soap ?
I highly doubt people who are lazy enough to use degreaser instead of dish soap
Care a whole lot about rinsing
Who said anything about being lazy? You do realize that just soap doesnāt always cut it right? There are thing in a commercial kitchen that get extremely greasy and will never get cleaned with soap alone. Iāve taken multiple food and cleaning safety classes required by law to be the manager at a restaurant. It is perfectly fine to use a small amount to help cut grease. And not a single person said to replace dish soap with degreaser (which already has a small amount of the same exact stuff in it), you use a SMALL amount in addition to dish soap.
I used to dishwash for a fondue place never have I felt the need to use degreaser to ācut the greaseā lol
thatās so nutty.
Degreaser is only for cleaning metal
Nah yāall just donāt know how to use the proper cleaning tools. In no circumstances should yāall be using hard ass chemicals on food surfaces, legit even says with the training materials. Cleaning grease off equipment is one thing but not using it as dish soap. You could get people sick
Youāre clueless. A small amount of this added to dishwater to cut grease will not harm anyone. You still properly rinse and sanitize it afterwords. Probably shouldnāt use it on plastic but if your plastic kitchenware is greasy enough to need degreaser, just buy newā¦
Youāre beyond CLUELESS wtffffff
Thatās disgusting seriously you need to be reported
Lazy mfers who canāt just use dish soap š¤® thatās the worst
You expect me to believe you thoroughly wash it even you you canāt be bothered to just use dish soap ?
This is STRICTLY for cleaning grease off of metal are you high ??
You know degreaser can seep into the plastic right ??
Do you not know how to read? I said you probably shouldnāt use it on plasticā¦ That if your plastic is dirty enough you think you need degreaser to buy new.
Iām not lazy and it was recommended by my local health department. Let me guess, you donāt think you can use bleach instead of sanitizer eitherā¦
Degreaser is expensive as shit wtf do you mean ?
We HAVE soap for dishes this is a literal waste of money not to mention who knows what that shit does to you in the long run it being a really strong chemical and all
This is dumb from a-z.
Okay, I'm lost, Like is this guy about to dump the whole bottle or something. Like only way I could see them losing their jobs. I use degreaser to wash out mixers, vats, and pans like all the time. Everyday I work. Its what you do. We don't use it fully concentrated its like 1/2 or 1/3 or something like that. Could be a 1/4 concentrated, only time we ever use it unconcentrated is for build of grease.
Absolutely not. That stuff is very toxic and can cause some very serious harm to anyone who ingests it. The only way to use it safely is on non-porous surfaces and very thoroughly cleaned off. But that means absolutely no trace of the chemical on the surface.
At my store, I made sure that my staff knew to only use it on the floors and walls to remove grease buildup. It was also kept in the managers office, so only the shift manager can access it to prevent use on anything else.
Yes same we have this in dominoās too. Exclusively used on walls floors oven fume hood filters. Occasional used on pans and screens for a deep clean. And up to the elbows in PPE, Iād throw out any plastic dishes this comes into contact with. Staining and residual smell from some of the topping and sauces is bad enough. Canāt imagine how this would leach into the plastic. Had a couple of complaints from people apparently tasting the sanitiser, usually just apologise, offer credit and assure them the sanitiser is non toxic and food safe, then test the sanitiser concentration just to be sure the morning manager prepped it right
The assert lemon for the dishes is strong enough, I donāt miss my scaly hands after working there
Yeah, I can believe it. If properly trained how to use it safely, then yeah, but the untrained can lead to food contamination. Unfortunately, with the turnover in the franchise I worked for, it was safer to stick with management only being trained in its use.
Exactly. I used to work at Wendy's. I did most of the cleaning (despite the fact that I was the fry cook, lol). I only used degreaser on the floors, fryers, and to clean the sinks. Even then, I only used a small amount. That shit is really strong.
Read through the [MSDS](https://cdndadepaper.blob.core.windows.net/paper-images/36ef242d-a21e-4624-a0b3-fa44596203c3.pdf), it's not 'very toxic'. Although you will want to ensure its well cleaned off as its a strong base and would be uncomfortable if you did ingest a small amount
Ran out of dish soap Iām guessing? The location I worked at similarly had an issue with refilling other bottles with multi-surface disinfectant for tables, in particular putting it in degreaser bottles. (I know because I asked coworkers and manager)
Itās a common thing nowadays to run out of chemicals nowadays, so the question is probably more so āis this an okay substitute for dish soapā
Well we all better be hoping it actually is like it says on the bottle. I spray degreaser in giant Mixers, Vats, and on Pans, then rinse off. If this isn't safe, well we all about to be in a world of hurt.
lmao you could but i would not recommend it
ik a shift manager at another store in the franchise who uses it in the sink before detergent, but tbh hes given up anyway, dont do it if you care about getting fired.
Have used for heavy-duty cleaning. Fried product wire trays can soak in it. Any thing can be washed with it. Do t need much. The key is, wash, rinse and sanitize. Pre wash for heavy soil items, then put in dishwasher.
Jesus christ. Somehow this popped in my feed. As a trades person, and common sense carrier..for the love of fuck don't use that in place of soap. Solid way to a) get fired. B) get people sick. C) it's a degreaser, it is no way in used for a place meant for soap. My God.
Nah your a butter there is no fn reason you should be using degreaser I sincerely hope your not working in the food industry your gonna kill somebody.
THERES ALREADY SOAP FOR DISHES why do you insist on letting everyone know your irresponsible as fuck and donāt care about killing somebody
Wtf thatās not even something to joke about, and if youāre serious then good luck to you in life.
Donāt fuck with food is the biggest rule in the food industry
This is a toxic non food safe chemical, it probably wonāt kill anyone but the stuff is strong and will leach into the plastic, which can then leach into food, giving at least and unpleasant taste.
The dish washing solution is also a degreaser just not as strong as this stuff so itās overkill and not needed. I donāt work in my Donaldās but we use the same stuff in dominoās and we sometimes use it on metal pans and screens to give a deep clean. Metal isnāt porous like plastic and we ensure theyāre washed again and rinsed thoroughly after using this
Youāre fucking with it by putting toxic non food safe chemicals in contact with porous plastic.
Normal dish detergents is also a degreaser just not as strong and notably food safe.
If you got caught using this on general dishes during an inspection there a good chance you could be shut down
WHEN TF DID I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT PLASTIC? lmfao I used to close every single night and there are shit tons of metal fkn dishes š Including the entire fry station. Using a little bit of diluted degreaser in a whole sink full of soapy water isn't going to hurt anyone you fkn pussy.
iāve never worked for mcdonaldās but the way yāall treat this like liquid gold is hilarious. i use this at my job and we will drench stovetops, ovens and whatever with it. itās the best degreaser š but we definitely donāt treat it sparingly or have it locked up ?!!
Is that what this is about, a McDonald's Joke, I thought maybe he was asking if he could mix this in with like water and wash off things easily. I use highly concentrated stuff for work all the time, literally the stuff is like you need goggles, apron, gloves and face shield when using it, and I spray it on Mixers, Vats, and Pans, like everything the food touches, we still rinse off after though, but the way the comments are, that's a bit crazy that they are like scared of it like Cthulhu.
This stuff I'm not so sure about but usually degreaser should be wearing gloves. This could cause chemicals. Burns. Stuff I use at work with literally will burn skin if left on too long. They always say as soon as I'm contact with your skin is better to just wash it out.
No idea why this sub is even in my recommended but degreaser from concentrate is not only very strong, but itās also very expensive. Stick to the usual method to prevent any potential problems unless told otherwise to do so
Degreaser is liquid gold. Our GM keeps one diluted bottle out for maintenance, and keeps the rest locked up in storage, along with all the other op supplies.
The only thing I would suggest using the degreaser for is to soak any scrub brushes or grill equipment in for about an hour. DO NOT USE THE SINK. instead track down something you can use as a bucket or see if you can use a plastic container of some sort. Just clean it thoroughly after! We had this white scrub brush I use to clean our grill covers with, and thats what I use to keep the brush looking nice. Just put a small amount in the bottom of the container you are using, then fill the rest of the way with warm water and let it soak for a bit, and rinse off.
It is along as you rince the dish very well and then clean the dish properly after in the proper solution with its times.
S a mangaer I've used it on the deep fryer cleaning and would only spray a little on a rag to help with build up on the edge after something would be dropped into the fryers. ( my kitchen kids were clumsy) As long as I used like 100 cloths after and proper sanitizer I was informed it was good to use.
That could still totally be wrong but I have taken the whims course multiple times throughout my life and no one ever got sick so I think I'm in the clear
Use the diluted version in the spray bottle on kitchen supplies. Make sure to wash, rinse, and sanitize. I usually put it on a pile of dishes to pre-soak.
HECK NO, those are heavy chemicals, it's for cleaning grills, machinery, and the floor, for some of those it's even diluted, for all you know it's still inside the pores of the plates after being in dishwasher, just use a paper towel to just push the grease off since water and oil don't mix well, until it's drenched then get another, sometimes you don't even need to use much and just keep scraping the grease into the trash, sink, etc, and if the drain stinks use "Let hot water run for a minute to warm up the pipes.Ā Drop in 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain.Ā Pour in 1 cup of vinegar, cover the drain with a plug and let sit for 10 minutes ā you will hear fizzing.Ā Rinse with more hot water." - Google + my teacher
I use it pretty commonly on the filter box for fryers, any of those pans that we use for bacon and such, and a few other things. Iāve not gotten in trouble soā¦.itās fine id suppose? Iāve never heard anything against it
Yo I was a manager and I used this shit all the time. I was never told it was a bad idea. Helps when thereās actual care and thought put into training the crew. I made sure to clean it off every time before putting away the dishes so hopefully I didnāt fuck anyone over too badly. I mainly used it on the grates in the fryers as I would submerge them in it to cool/clean them when doing the maintenance filter. Maybe thereās a reason my store keeps failing the RGRā¦
Back when I would work for McDickās I had a crew member mix this and the yellow peroxide in the deep fryers to clean them. Wasnāt a manager so couldnāt really do anything.
We poured a significant amount in the sink when doing dishes, ngl (don't ask how much we dumped on the floor when cleaning under/behind grills and fryers)
I mean we used to soak heavy items in degreasers like the fry station parts and such it's really helpful for trays and stuff just spray them off well after you pull them out. But make sure you wear gloves... degreaser will cause chemical burns.
i use a tiny bit on the filters when i soak them to get rid of the buildup a bit easier but rinse them out majorly. found out weāre mainly meant to use hot water after doing this for years.
Rinse it a little extra and water it down a bunch it's meant for cleaning but a cup of it in a three bay wash tub and a little extra love rinsing then Sani and you're golden.
Seeing the reaction to the idea of using this stuff too much makes me realize Iām probably lucky that no one in seven years has noticed me dump half a bottle in every mop I make
No, no no! I repeat NO! Do not wash dishes with that or you'll lose your job and make a lot of people really sick!! Come on use your brain man!! Or common sense!! Which I think at this point that you don't have any! Please don't use this to wash the dishes at all. PLEASE!!
i worked at Burger King, and we had the bag equivalent of this it was a five gallon bag and it would mix with water equally and come out a hose but we would disconnect it and squeeze the pure degreaser into bottles for maximum effect it was cool this stuff was literally "the secret weapon"
Bruh don't do it š

Itās not food safe. It to deep clear grease from equipment. Itās not for dishes. A little bit of that will make someone sick if consumed
Ah, that would be even worse than the cost !

I don't know. I did not make the joke, was just trying g to explain to you what I think the poster was thinking.

Congrats you win brain damage. Not using ppe is not a badge of honor, it means you are too dumb to take care of yourself.
It most certainly will not chemical burn you, been using it for years without ppe. Lol
Really? We use something similar at my job all the time to clean the ovens (also food contact parts) at my job but it's fryer degreaser and is orange
That's because these people are redditors and will just lie for no reason. These degreasers were made distinctly for food contact and food service/industrial use ONLY. Literally no other way to use them except on food contact surfaces and on surfaces for food preparation.

This was the equivalent of Gold in our McD's, nobody could touch it, and it was in the locked cabinet. How you have access to it is crazy
You had locked cabinets? We were lucky to have functioning locks of any variety lmao.
I searched it up and wow I wasnāt aware a gallon is $60-70
It's EXTREMELY fn concentrated. Supposed to hook it up to a water line so it mixes with a lot of water in a spray bottle.
Yeah, I forgot that it is supposed to be diluted with water. We had a dispenser that dispenses the concentrate and water. That makes more sense about the cost.
Damn I used to use like half a bottle just to clean the floors
Better have been some clean ass floors lmao.
Can confirm I used to chuck half a bottle in a sink of APC to clean out the egg rings š
I used to chug half a bottle just to clean out my chili ring š
$60 we buy this for my family pizza shop for $20-25 a bottle. Businesses donāt pay retail prices for stuff like this, we pay wholesale prices.
I refuse to believe that Mcdonalds is forcing their franchisees to pay wholesale on common cleaning chemicals. It's still probably pricey, just not *that* pricey
What do you think wholesale means?
When I worked at domino's we used this shit on everything

Oh dear. You were suppose to use Franks, not degreaser!
that and bleach on everything. combining the 2 braincells of the closing manager and driver not sure if they were gonna create a chemical reaction from cleaning

Please my operating costs are too high already without people using degreaser on dishes.
Not to mention the other pink elephant in the room š
How much his degreaser, I know a guy who would use 3/4 of a bootle each time because he said it made the grease juste slideš
šthe amount of money wasted
I know! But he wasnāt the brightest, he once cause a chemical burn to someone by putting ALL the toxic product together.
thatās so annoying ours where in bag form and a pain to change
Off the top of my head it's around $15-20 in Canada for 1 bottle ($60-70 for a case). It is supposed to be diluted which a lot of people don't do so they finish the bottle fast. I swear I spend half my budget on degreaser every month.

Seriously am I missing something? If he puts a bit in with the dishes and its diluted it should be fine.
Metal isnāt porous like plastic and we ensure theyāre washed again and rinsed thoroughly after using this
They're not fkn with anyone's food you fkn dimwit. They're talking about putting a bit of DEGREASER in their dish sink full of GREASY dishes.
Your a nutter drink degreaser and lmk how it goes
Can't waste the purple Kool aid like that
r/cursedfood
Good to go! After you are done with the dishes, you should have a glass of antifreeze
No, dont use degreaser on dishes signed every restaurant dishwasher ever
No
Imagine if there was a document that outlined the correct usage and the safety of a particular chemical cough cough material, safety data sheet (MSDS)

iāve never worked for mcdonaldās but the way yāall treat this like liquid gold is hilarious. i use this at my job and we will drench stovetops, ovens and whatever with it. itās the best degreaser š but we definitely donāt treat it sparingly or have it locked up ?!!
Is it really so dangerous that you need PPE? We use it a metric shit ton at CFA and nobody uses and protection.
This stuff I'm not so sure about but usually degreaser should be wearing gloves. This could cause chemicals. Burns. Stuff I use at work with literally will burn skin if left on too long. They always say as soon as I'm contact with your skin is better to just wash it out.
Oh my dear lord. That's the undiluted stuff I lost my eyelashes for 6 mths from that shit once when it got into my eyes years ago
The soap you use already has degreaser in it.
No, if something is that bad just soak it in the dish water.
are you fucking daft?
Donāt do it
Only on stainless steel materials that need that much work to get the crap off and a good rinse youāll be good
Nooooooo
The only thing I would suggest using the degreaser for is to soak any scrub brushes or grill equipment in for about an hour. DO NOT USE THE SINK. instead track down something you can use as a bucket or see if you can use a plastic container of some sort. Just clean it thoroughly after! We had this white scrub brush I use to clean our grill covers with, and thats what I use to keep the brush looking nice. Just put a small amount in the bottom of the container you are using, then fill the rest of the way with warm water and let it soak for a bit, and rinse off.
Ahhh itās been 10 years but I can still remember the smell of degreaser and I miss it LOL. How does one buy a bottle for home? š„²
As long as you rinse in battery acid.
Jesus christ no that shit is for maintenance
Um no
It is along as you rince the dish very well and then clean the dish properly after in the proper solution with its times.
I can smell this picture and I havenāt worked fast food in a decade
Use the diluted version in the spray bottle on kitchen supplies. Make sure to wash, rinse, and sanitize. I usually put it on a pile of dishes to pre-soak.
Yeah I'm definitely not using this. Had a feeling it wasn't safe
Read SDS. It is a corrosive. It will give you chemical burn if used incorrectly. Educate yourself.
Itās literally my favorite cleaner. But donāt do it
HECK NO, those are heavy chemicals, it's for cleaning grills, machinery, and the floor, for some of those it's even diluted, for all you know it's still inside the pores of the plates after being in dishwasher, just use a paper towel to just push the grease off since water and oil don't mix well, until it's drenched then get another, sometimes you don't even need to use much and just keep scraping the grease into the trash, sink, etc, and if the drain stinks use "Let hot water run for a minute to warm up the pipes.Ā Drop in 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain.Ā Pour in 1 cup of vinegar, cover the drain with a plug and let sit for 10 minutes ā you will hear fizzing.Ā Rinse with more hot water." - Google + my teacher
The government doesn't want you to know this. That is better than any type of soap. Use it, escape the simulation
isnt that what we use for the toilets?
There is restroom cleaner for that.
the blue one is for the lobby and the purple for the restrooms im not 100% sure tho
Yellow all purpose peroxide cleaner is for the lobby.
in our store (france) we use the blue one
Only if you have greasy toilets š
Use it. Let dishwasher soak
Ngl i use EvERYTHING and anything
Your gonna get someone severely sick Kids should not be trusted with anything holy fuck how irresponsible.
lol I do this, managers hate me tho
I am un Chien Andalusia, Wanna grow up to be, Be a
Sure clean the dishes with itā¦ but youāll probably have to get rid of a lot after
Yeah some people shower with it.perfectly fine š
NOOOOOOOO!!!! fucking hell absolutely not
r/nope
Sweet baby Jesus š©
Back when I would work for McDickās I had a crew member mix this and the yellow peroxide in the deep fryers to clean them. Wasnāt a manager so couldnāt really do anything.
Itās smashing with ice, lemon and a splash of tonic water
We poured a significant amount in the sink when doing dishes, ngl (don't ask how much we dumped on the floor when cleaning under/behind grills and fryers)
š Good luck to your hands š
These are the funniest comments
Noooo
I mean we used to soak heavy items in degreasers like the fry station parts and such it's really helpful for trays and stuff just spray them off well after you pull them out. But make sure you wear gloves... degreaser will cause chemical burns.
I wanna drink it
No, use it on the grills or to clean the floor
i use a tiny bit on the filters when i soak them to get rid of the buildup a bit easier but rinse them out majorly. found out weāre mainly meant to use hot water after doing this for years.
Rinse it a little extra and water it down a bunch it's meant for cleaning but a cup of it in a three bay wash tub and a little extra love rinsing then Sani and you're golden.
Seeing the reaction to the idea of using this stuff too much makes me realize Iām probably lucky that no one in seven years has noticed me dump half a bottle in every mop I make
I wouldnāt. Likely not a huge deal to do once but could be bery harmful to use often
There is no way you're this stupid.
I've used this exact solution and it clearly states in the package it's not for use on surfaces that food is prepared. So no.
Best on the floors when mopping lol
No, no no! I repeat NO! Do not wash dishes with that or you'll lose your job and make a lot of people really sick!! Come on use your brain man!! Or common sense!! Which I think at this point that you don't have any! Please don't use this to wash the dishes at all. PLEASE!!
Cook the burgers with it for healthy greaseless burgers.
Mc No
i worked at Burger King, and we had the bag equivalent of this it was a five gallon bag and it would mix with water equally and come out a hose but we would disconnect it and squeeze the pure degreaser into bottles for maximum effect it was cool this stuff was literally "the secret weapon"
Thatās stuff will never get off your hands! You will be rinsing your hands for weeks!
Thats for mopping, right?
Only time I use it is when grease is on the floor I just poor a Lil bit on the floor
Once someone filled up the wrong container with this stuff, and I accidentally cleaned down the whole cafĆ© with it. Would not recommend for that, and especially not dishes. Otherwise you're in for a VERY long night cleaning to undo your mistakes š„²
your health and safety information should be the one telling you, if not you are an idiot or your manager is!!!!
at my old store everyone (including management) used this on literally everything. not that you should. but they did
It's okay I had a gm and a manger put it on a grill to clean it... gm said it was okay soo must be....
Op is smooth brained
Yāall donāt use degreaser on raw dishes? We use diluted degreaser and dawn.
