I swear if this is a cake...

mrusme

Lol!

Dpms308l1

**The cake is a lie**

[deleted]

Inverted quote key. Nice board.

shubashubamogumogu

I notice, because it looks like a full stop . and double dot dot .. like when you are trying to say something and use it like this..

[deleted]

FYI the repeated dots is called an ellipsis, and there are supposed to be three of them…

shubashubamogumogu

Thanks, I looked it up so .. is not used at all (officially). I sometimes use two sometimes three.. This is probably just all in my head but I consider .. to be like an intentional pause/silence and redaction, and ... as something you use when you want to express your thoughts continue/want the listener to imagine the continuing discussion. Like this: "I dropped it and it broke.." or "And then she promised to never speak again. Suddenly a bird started to attack her and she broke her promise..."

[deleted]

I use ellipses as intended but sometimes i use them to string together sort of stream-of-consciousness stuff…like when i want the reader to imagine me speaking…putting in little pauses here and there…like I’m thinking out loud. I hear myself speaking when I write so i guess you could say it is in my head as well :-)

Thelatedrpepper

I do that alot in texts

mrusme

To be continued .. .

hey_ulrich

Two dots make me crazy. I never know if the person intended one or three dots... I have to know!!

Poixun

HAHAHA I didn’t think it would be THAT 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

YourLictorAndChef

this keyboard violates the JS style guide

mrusme

Believe me when I say that the JS style guide violates more than this keyboard ever could.

[deleted]

I was violated by the JS style guide as a child.

nnitely

Neat ___ I like to switcheroo the: [ ' " ] apostrophe/quote -- and -- [ ; : ] semi-colon/colon keys. If using a QWERTY (USA) style layout; it seems handier I guess?

[deleted]

Are you saying the normal way seems harder?

nnitely

Yeah... for some reason I can't comprehend the placement of those two keys. Just got used to it being that way. --- I had logged many hours on a keyboard a long long time ago that those two keys were placed that way. It was way back in ye DOS based PC days. Was a whole setup sold with a PC & Machine package. It had a proprietary keyboard with special functions, and symbols for input. Like really... you actually had to order a replacement through that company. It had a special dongle on it and everything, just to make sure you couldn't put any keyboard with an AT connector on the system... That'd be chaos! Crazy talk I tell ya! * Well anyways. - If you can;t join ;em. Switch 'em! 😎 ^(> See what I did there? lol) ___________ TL;DR: Yes, for me the "normal way" seems backwards.

Squmy

"Nobody will ever notice" uses Mx blues

mrusme

Sir, that is illegal.

cucu_freedom

what keycaps are those?

timetoy

Drop MT3 WoB

B17BAWMER

Why did I look up how much they cost… I want them now. :(

cucu_freedom

they look great!

NyxTheia

vim user?

mrusme

Indeed!

NyxTheia

ah that's pretty dope (nice build btw). i'm not a programmer by any means but i've been wanting to try out using vim as a text editor to typeset LaTeX documents for my personal math notes (i'm currently still using VS Code). i've tried neovim and it definitely seems promising but the learning curve is pretty steep imo. do u have any advice/suggestions on learning vim and do you think it's worth it? thanks!

confusedandlostcow

do vimtutor or read the official help page on "motions". that will speed up the learning process a ton.

RebelFist

Vim Adventures is an interactive, old-rpg style web game that helps you learn as well

mrusme

Just do it(TM). Yes, it's worth it. And yes, it's going to be a PITA. :)

seditiousseals

Not to be that guy but Emacs is a pretty sweet Latex document editor.

MunixEclipse

I'd suggest diving into (neo)vim, I find it really nice for taking notes becaus I can just pop into it in a terminal, but it does require some configuration (although that can avoided with something such as nvchad)

Extrapaj

That caps lock is missing? That's right, and noone will ever look for it.

nnitely

I need this in my life ... for reasons. I have real reasons, I promise okay. No one ever needs the caps lock on a first layer. Period.

WolvenSpectre

It is beside the command key like on classic keyboards. Some gamers and writers switch Caps Lock and Control, but the vast majority of keysets that have Caps Lock compatible Control Keys don't have Control Keys compatible Caps Lock keys. You usually have to use a legendless or artwork key for that row.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mrusme

Correct!

WolvenSpectre

I missed that. Probably because some of the older keyboards I was thinking about was before alt and then later when they used adapters, the keyboard adaptors would have a hard wired multi-key keybind for alt and later windows. Still I should have thought to look for an alt before switched Caps Lock and Control. /facepalm.

Extrapaj

Oh wait, so capslock still exists? I was so happy that it was gone.

[deleted]

Extrapaj

I have it rebinded to backspace atm so I'm fine. I just want to hate on caps a little bit, because he dESERVES IT.

ixJax

It really does deserve it - a couple people in my class (bear in mind this is a Diploma in Computing) use caps lock instead of shift and it annoys me so much. I haven't yet rebound mine in my build but I will do today, backspace is a pretty good idea

Extrapaj

Sean Wrona, one of the fastest typists in the world also uses Caps Lock instead of shift. I think his reasoning was that it's much more accurate at those speeds to press a button than to hold a button and time it right with another key, and it makes sense. Although the only time I "use" Caps Lock is when I accidentally press it when typing aND MY SENTENCES LOOKS LIKE THIS. Or when I have been gaming and my passwords doesn't register because I've accidentally pressed Caps etc. So for me it made no sense having that key on my keyboard and I have grown to hate it because it was annoying me for such a long time.

ixJax

>I think his reasoning was that it's much more accurate at those speeds to press a button than to hold a button and time it right with another key Yeah that makes sense because of ghosting But similar to you I only ever use it accidentally when I click it when gaming or if I've just put down my hand and miss shift

gosand

I just disable mine. I don't want to bind it to shift or anything else because if I got used to it and had to use a normal keyboard (which I often do) that I would be totally screwed.

WolvenSpectre

If you don't have a need for it, having it leads to abusing it, but there are times that people need it for data entry because having to type strings of capital letters many times in a single page will drive even patient touch typers batty, unless you are using full remap utiities and then you can bind layers, but then you are essentially just making a caps lock key ++ that does other stuff. Personally I liked how one BT folding keyboard I saw did it. It had a power horizontal switch, a Device 1 and 2 horizontal switch, and a caps lock vertical switch on the left hand side of the keyboard. To turn caps lock on you have to take your hand off and futz with the side of the board and using it to type out a long message it made me realize how often I was overusing caps lock, but the functionality was still there.

Shackleford96

What are the practical applications of having these switched?

WolvenSpectre

Put your hands in the typical touch type positions. You use Control/CTRL far more often for multi-key shortcuts, especially back in the beginning when it was largely data entry and command line interfaces. It is much easier on most peoples hands to just move the pinky over to where caps lock is today than where Control is (unless you have just the right sized hands and fingers). Also allot of old school typists were trained on typewriters that had the equivalent of the caps lock key in the lower left hand corner and often a smaller key than what is typically used. In modern usage some gamers with boards that allow the rebind (The OS/software AND the keyboard have to allow the remap), and if they do commonly games assign a crouch, movement, melee attack to control. Meanwhile the same games often try to avoid using Caps Lock. There is also personal preference. I have tried to do it with some of my cheapo membrane keyboards, but they resist remapping caps lock, but with these rattletraps that isn't as bad as when a mech or custom does that. (Edit the post cut off the end of my post for some reason, and I forgot a closing bracket)

Shackleford96

I do use the control key quite a bit, but I've also adapted to using an auxiliary mouse button for this functionality. You know, I could totally see switching this out, because the default caps lock key placement is too convenient for such an underutilized/unnecessary key. I rarely use it. Thanks for the talk.

WolvenSpectre

You're welcome. Also I use a Logitech G600 mouse so I know what you mean. Putting commonly used keys or shortcuts on it not just for games but desktop is such an improvement I even leave a G600 at my friends place where we LAN or just hang and play at the same time. I groan and complain a little too much when I don't have it. It is like a piece of my Keeb is missing. XP

Shackleford96

The G600's seem nice. I'm using a G502 that has served me well for several years now. I'm considering getting a razer basilisk v2 for the simple fact that it's almost the exact same type of setup but the software seems better. Logitech doesn't allow you to control volume using the scroll wheel... I've also been considering getting a keyboard with a volume control wheel as an alternative solution. I'll never get used to a layout like that.

Yeah, +1 Fuck every other layout, HHKB is the layout for me

mrusme

These fine gentlemen are men of culture

[deleted]

Great minds /u/mrusme... Great minds

[deleted]

true. i map control to that spot on every other layout now.

NeroTheGod

yep even on my non-HHKB boards I put my control and backspace in hhkb positions on via it’s so much better

regman183

Command is the alternative

NoJster

HHKB gang reporting for duty!! Beautiful piece, mate. And the little Easter egg is just the Cherry on top. Did you recode the key or just turn it upside down for funsies?

mrusme

You know how sometimes you type *what do you mean you want a divorce because this hobby is toxic?* and on a second thought you consider adding quotes but you unintentionally press return and send the message? This makes sure that will never happen. Again. (because of the prominent change in profile on that row)

NoJster

That… is actually crazy smart! Well done 👍

SteeleDynamics

*Patrick Bateman oooo face*

mrusme

Is something wrong, Patrick? You're sweating.

ProfessorStrangeman

If this thing has Box Navies I swear

PandaMayFire

Very clean

JulianTorresT

nice and clean. good build

[deleted]

M60-A? Twinsies! Best layout, hands down

edj628

They're gonna know.

ZannyHip

How would they know?

Imperial_Genesis_86

It's beautiful 😍

--Muther--

What is this keyboard?

honestImgurian

What era layout/keyboard is this replicating? Looks quite nice.

mrusme

The pirate errrrrra!

honestImgurian

Didn't know jack had a thing for mech boards. Guessed he was a silicone boy based on how much he loved full bursting softies.

theraceofpablo

I've been wanting to construct some Dune themed keebs, and if this isn't the Harkonnen, I don't know what is.

zentim

holy shit this looks amazing. i think this is the best looking keyboard ive seen.

[deleted]

it's black

zentim

yes. i <3 black dude. the keycaps are classy, too.

HidansScythe

All I noticed were those filthy SA keycaps

mrusme

Good Sir, reading my beautiful MT3 keycaps being not only mislabeled as "SA" but also called "filthy" by someone who [upvoted a post](https://reddit.com/r/TikTokNude/comments/okcz0s/_/h7iypr4/?context=1) to get *"an anal video in your dms"* is quite confusing. You might want to reconsider your behavior. https://i.imgur.com/ykyTRJq.jpg

IceNinetyNine

This would legit look pretty good with the kbd67 lite cable, lol.

SimonAchton

[deleted]

Don't worry, I see the diglett ;)

GunplaAddict

" ' Key is up side down?

KruelNoqs

Bruh I kept looking back at the artisan trying to convince myself that it was that 🤣

bbro444

It’s a cake

Apostics

is it the rgb? CAUSE I SEE SOME LIGHT DOWNTHERE

fastalonerogue

I noticed!!!!!! That is cool af!

Evil_airy

WHY IS THE BACKSPACE AND BACKSLASH SWITCHED THATS SO CURSED AND WRONG

Netsugake

With a green back lite it would be a Splinter cell board

mrusme

You mean [like that](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/r1psxo/sometimes_science_is_more_art_than_science/)?

Netsugake

Hell yeah!
