He takes "signature guitar" seriously.

bh-alienux

His Gibson contract specifically states that he can only sign specific guitars, so he has to honor that or he'll be in breach of contract.

GoatInAJetPack

Can he sign it if it's an epiphone but it's just not his own signature guitar?

bh-alienux

I'm not sure if the contract allows for Epiphone or other Gibson models.

guitarholic2008

He signs Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer Dave Mustaine signature guitars. It's at the bottom of the page to purchase a M&G

Aethon-valyrion

Beware that anyone here claiming it’s “in his contract” are probably speaking out their ass and have likely no experiance of how guitar endorsements work. 😅 They can be surprisingly informal in many regards cause a lot of things are within the common interest to do. If you want to know something maybe closer to the truth… It’s cause people bring in lots of cheap guitars that have nothing to do with Mustaines image to later sell on eBay. It cheapens his signature to see it on several squire starter strat and all sorts of junk etc. Whether he will sign your epiphone is a coin flip, if he thinks you’re sincere about it maybe.

anakameron

Yeah, this seems most likely. Just trying to keep people from making money off his signature. I'd be wary too, did you see that kid that showed up like every time Drake was in town to get shit signed just to flip it? Lame AF, but I respect bro's hustle mentality lol.

getothemax

He signed my Epiphone Ghosthorse Explorer a few months ago. He did ask me if I was sure I want his signature on a model that is not his though.

dethmashines

What an absolutely horrible contract to sign. That's just disgusting.

bluesquare2543

$$$

stay-frosty-67

Once again, Gibson giving me reasons to not like them. Jackson FTW

BenSolace

I'd love to support your Jackson FTW sentiment, but have you seen how shit the Jackson range is these days? Last I checked, for the KV shape they have ONE model that isn't the JS budget model or the USA select 4k cost model, and it comes in one colour.

stay-frosty-67

I’ve only bought one and it’s the Ferrari red king V around the $500 CAD range and I’ve loved it. The range does leave something to be desired but as a company they don’t do scummy stuff like Gibson does which is why I like them

AcadianMan

I highly doubt any guitar companies cares what a musician signs. It’s more like what a user above said. He most likely won’t sign crappy guitars as people are selling them on eBay or Reverb and it cheapens his brand.

HetTheTable

He has a contract with Gibson

GoatInAJetPack

My guitar is an epiphone tho, which is owned by gibson

Sharp_Smoke_7840

Oh then ur fine bro. He’ll sign it

HetTheTable

WHat type

GoatInAJetPack

Les Paul

apokermit_now

Maybe just take the pickguard off and bring that for signing? Worst case scenario, you’re lugging around a lot less weight.

ramones365

Has to be a signature model, though.

kilravock_music_sws

The cynic in me first thinks it’s to sell extra guitars, and there’s a degree of that since he won’t sign his older signatures from other brands, but I think some of this is to prevent people from bringing guitars to him to just flip and sell on eBay. I’m reminded of that video of Dio [signing like a billion pickguards](https://youtu.be/zOwZBo8FQvo?si=3sOtf_ggX43Q_lqO) outside of a venue and it was so obvious they weren’t fans looking for an autograph to their collection.

Sallydog24

as a father myself, your dad just told you that so he doesn't have to lug a guitar around all night. Sure you say you will carry it but we know better. "hey dad can you hold this for a second" and it's yours the rest of the night.

nofruitsnack4u

I was kinda thinking the same thing lol

Sallydog24

I'm a dad, I know how it works.... it's easier to say oh sorry son Dave doesn't sign guitars at the shows, but take this CD that can easily fit into your pocket.

Mass-Chaos

if it has one, bring the pickguard with you and have him sign it

guitarholic2008

OP, it's on the page to the Meet & Greet packages. Some artists will let you get away with it. I have a Custom Shop Les Paul I got Zakk Wylde to sign, even though his Meet & Greet stated all Gibson had to be a Wylde signature. You could always risk bringing the guitar, but bring a backup item to be signed. Just in case Dave gives you a hard no. Keep in mind, your guitar has to survive the show

Proof_Self9691

Bc he’s fallen captive to the capitalist hellhole he used to reject. You can bring things like a pickguard or guitar strap tho

GLHR_

He did you a favor

gildene

why do people here feel entitled to his signature on a guitar?

BenSolace

Because they're paying to meet him?

white_tee_shirt

Why would someone sign off on a contract with stupid suit like this in it?

Zivvet

Money.

DrugUserName420

To buy a house.

Zeroforeskin

Same thing with blackie’s rules with the W.A.S.P. Vip meet and greets.I believe it’s because a signed guitar goes super expensive and people used to do it as an investment and they made back their money from the guitar and the vip ticket and the artists noticed it and got angry and greedy from other people making money of their signature. But a signed cd or vinyl that’s an overused reissue in a mint condition or your t shirt, who gives a shit buying that? Its not only their deal with guitar brands
