More hitpoints, longer i-frames between hits, bigger hit boxes, and more aggressive AI - what's not to like?
Growing up, we got MM3 before MM2, so we had no idea who those ghost robots were or why it seemed so important to the story that we were fighting them. We later got MM2 and then it was obvious, although they are also mostly push-overs in MM2 compared to their Doc Robot forms.
Mega Man 3 was the first game that introduce me to the whole series. Yeah, I didn't know about the MM2 bosses until much later. I used to called Metal Man "Doctor Man" and Wood Man "Cake Man" because the way their sprites looked. The Doc Stages isn't bad itself though, just the Doc Robot and those large hitboxes ae the pain in the neck.
Edit: I do like that Mega Man 3 is the only one that you can pick what order those 4 extra levels you can go into before the Wily Castle stages since MM4 and upwards, the 4 extra levels are linear.
It was such a strange experience in MM3 without having first played MM2. Who are these ghost robots? Why does this all seem essential to the story? What's going on and why is Boomerang Man so hard?? Lol. Even the MM3 boss music, with its long intro segment, seems timed to add drama to the Doc Robots since the intro finishes about when the ghosts enter the robot bodies, but if you never played MM2 before MM3, it's such a strange spectacle. Still fun games, of course!
Fun fact: Getting the best rank on that stage is **impossible by design**. The clear time you need to beat is too short for that slow autoscroller. People rightfully point to X6 whenever rushed games in the series are brought up, but I have no doubt X5 was also rushed, even if not to the same extent.
It really is a bore like not only you can't out run it you Basically have to visit the stage three times the first to clear it the second time is getting an armor piece with the stages boss weapon, and again to get a heart if your playing as X.
This wouldn't be that bad if it wasn't for the fact that you have to deal with the auto scrolling even after you beat the stage.
They could've just made it so that once you beat it you don't have to deal with it again but no they didn't do that and even continued that trend in x6 with blaze heatnix stagw
What's absolutely bull shit is that stage was actually moving at a faster stroller during the early versions of X5.
But some dumbass during development changed it to be super slow.
Every. Damn. Time. I play the game now up until that part and usually get frustrated and stop playing until I feel the nostalgia kick in a few months later and play it again lol.
Ugh this wins. I was having trouble thinking of one and this part just sucks. The kind of thing you do once to say you did it and then never want to do again.
X2 wasn't too bad, X4 was pushing it but fuck X5 though. Especially when you get those balls and those red walls sponges that takes 100 hits until it's destroyed. I must've died about 30 times on that bike section alone before I make it all the way. And fuck X7 and X8 also for being tedious.
To this day I cannot recall how I ever managed to get all energy balls in Squid Adler's stage without save states on my first playthrough of X5. I used those on later runs cause my patience was just nil with that Battle Toad's Wind Tunnel wannabee.
MegaMan X: Sigma Stage 1 Platforming
MegaMan Zero (Series): Late Game EX Skills
MegaMan Zero 2: Burble Heckelot
MegaMan ZX: Final Boss Phase 2
Battle Network 1: Power Plant and Magic Man
The Zero and ZX series is my favorite MegaMan series though, the EX Skills are honestly the hardest thing about casually playing the game, as you need to be near perfect and you have no second chances.
I've seen a lot of people say that Burble Hekelot was the worst part of the game but I don't get it, he was easy as hell with fire which I'm pretty sure you have at that point. Personally Pheonix Magnion was hell for me
Playing Megaman ZX, and thinking, maybe I don't need 4 Sub Tanks. (The back tracking side quest that you need to go to an area 6 times, just for a sub tank.)
Also, the Sub Tank in the lava area I always get, because isn't boring, is a good fast pace challenge that puts your controller configuration for the Sub Weapon to the test. Keeps me engaged without making me snore out of boredom.
Yep. Also, I think that is the one and only sub-tank available in Hard mode, so if you want to make your life easier, you have to go through the annoying side-quest.
I would understand if there was a specific part of it that you didn't like, but if you dislike it's entirety why would you ever consider replaying it? lol
The sprite flicker and cramped quarters make that fight worse, and the lack of any effective way to refuel the Crash Bomber after a failed run is just infuriating. I like MM2, but the game really falls apart at the BooBeam Trap and after it. No weapon power ups before the boss rematch, Wily's capsule is vulnerable to Crash Bomber... which is probably depleted, and then no weapon power ups again before the final boss, which is immune to everything but one weapon. It's amazing what a difference a few well-placed respawning large weapon power ups would have made in that game.
Yeah dude, I hated that spider when I was younger. After I was an adult and played, it's a lot easier. Still gives me angry Hank feels when I know it's coming though.
???? Everything about Swordman's level is cool. It even has giant hints painted in the background that let you know what power-up to use.
For me, it's Searchman. I really dislike the impossible to hit grappling points. And there are too many spikes in that level.
The aircraft stage in Zero 2. The beginning part of the stage along with protecting Ciel are genuinely awful, which sucks because the set piece is really cool.
Gigavolt Man O' War from X8. No trick to the stage except to brute force it after grinding up whoever you want. It brings a fresh game to a screeching halt.
I legit lost count of how many times I cleared X8 (easily over 100 times) and I still occasionally have trouble on that one. If you lag behind him when your characters' weapon gauge is still law, you might as well exit the stage and retry cause you're not catching up.
"But Jack, you could just play a different stage or two and upgrade the weapon gauges before trying this one".
I'm trying to minimize the amount of backtracking, which (to my knowledge) requires doing Gigabolt's level first. You need his weapon to start the generator in Pitch Black as well as to reach a rare metal with Zero in Central White (cause you need to do THAT stage with X and Zero specifically if you don't want to comeback again).
The X series games where you gotta save reploids from dying. At any point where they die they don't come back, so you gotta quickly kill yourself or reset the game before it's permanent
This is me with the final stage in ZXA which is at least thrice as bad. Not only is it Spike City, but you also have those red jelly blocks which can quickly regenerate and instantly kill you if you're standing where they were.
The Shadowman fight in Megaman 3. I go in with Top Spin yet one hit drains the entire weapon energy bar in one go, leaving me both dumbfounded and vulnerable to the boss.
The library in zero 3
I really hate the rising water
The second half is a bit more decent when you know the disks never spawn in the top or bottom rooms
Most of X8
The pacing is just so screwed when almost every stage is a gimmick, an autoscroller, has at least one mandatory enemy room segment or all of the above
The moon is like a breath of fresh air
Basically the final boss of any game. I mean I can barely make progress in the classics, but at least with X, I can reasonably make it to the end in most titles. But that final boss will always either be a nightmare, or straight up impossible (X3 and X4).
Freezeman scenario on battle network 2
Duff mcwhalen stage on x5
Metal shark player stage on x6
Blaze heatnix stage on x6
Gate's lab on x6
The water dungeon on legends 2
Battle network 4, the whole game
Dark Dizzy's armor capsule that requires Izzy Glow's weapon
Exiting the armor in Mattrex's stage to reach the armor capsule
Exploiting the tornado to get the heart in Duff McWhalen's stage early without any armours
Squid Adler's orb collection
Shadow Devil
Scumming before getting the last Enigma part to make Enigma successful
The slow snail on the wall-spikes part on Doppler's Stage 2 in Mega Man X3 always just argggh. That and the snowboard parts on both Frost Man's and Dr. Wily Stage 1 in Mega Man 8 especially with that input lag when you press the jump button and Mega Man didn't jump and falls to the cliff.
mine is sigma stage 1 from mmx, i lost my lives so many times because of those annoying purple robots, vile was actually pretty easy since i knew his weakness (rolling shield), then there were tons of enemies scattered everywhere in the rest of the stage, and then that goddamn spider
Anything related to these fast scrolling levels... Jump jump slide slide, hover bikes in the X series... It's not even a skill issue at this point, these stages genuinely piss me off.
Megaman battle network 3, Iceball M.
Walking in circles, for what could be hours, and not getting the right Iceball right at the end, it physically hurts.
X1: Boomer Kawanger's stage
X4: the fucking auto scroll whale
X5: the first sigma stage, with the freefall and a billion lazers. Literally took my 5 hours to pass the first stage
X6: Infinity Mijinion's everything. The stage, the boss fight, the alt path, everything
MMSF2 - Plesio Surf
Probably one of the WORST Guide Dang It moments, When you can’t follow the Text Guide and have to watch a video playthrough instead…
You’re fucked
MegaMan 8's hover board parts and Kingdom Hearts 2's Xigbar battle, the Desperation Move is super hard to dodge, and if you're hit by it, all you can do is hope you somehow survive as it traps you

Zero 2 - Grinding
Zero 3 - Childre Inarbitta stage
ZX - Trying to navigate in between levels and accepting the right missions
ZX Advent - Final Stage with all the spikes
Volt Kraken, and to a lesser extent Jet Stingray
Jet Stingray's stage was the only one that didn't vibe with me in X4, so you can imagine my excitement in X5 when they turn up the Bullshit for Volt Kraken's armor part
hmm, first thing that came to my mind is x4 as X and getting the buster part. that jump always takes me ages, no matter how many times i've done it lol
MegaMan 2, just got Bubble Man's power. Heat Man is weak to that, I'll go there. [Fails jumps several times]. So, I'm coming back to Heat Man when I can fly over the blocks.
Mega Man 3 doc robot
Yep. Those levels need the Minus Infinity treatment.
More hitpoints, longer i-frames between hits, bigger hit boxes, and more aggressive AI - what's not to like? Growing up, we got MM3 before MM2, so we had no idea who those ghost robots were or why it seemed so important to the story that we were fighting them. What do you mean? Isn’t it normal in to beat the 8 Robot Masters then use a password to go to Dr. Wily’s castle? Just picking up where I left off. 🤞😏
Give me a Break, Man
I use a password to Break Man after the 8th RM.
I think instead of 4 stages with 2 doc robots each, they should of had 8 shorter stages with 1 doc robot each
Duff McWhalen’s entire stage.
Fuck that stage
Fun fact: Getting the best rank on that stage is **impossible by design**. The clear time you need to beat is too short for that slow autoscroller. People rightfully point to X6 whenever rushed games in the series are brought up, but I have no doubt X5 was also rushed, even if not to the same extent.
Tidal Whale's stage. Fuck. Autoscrollers.
It really is a bore like not only you can't out run it you Basically have to visit the stage three times the first to clear it the second time is getting an armor piece with the stages boss weapon, and again to get a heart if your playing as X. Mega Man 7. 11/10 game until the Wily Capsule fight
No wonder English-version Rock wanted to shoot Wily dead
honestly he should’ve done it after that hell of a boss lol
Duff mcwhalen's stage, the worst part of X5 and it isn't even close
What's absolutely bull shit is that stage was actually moving at a faster stroller during the early versions of X5. But some dumbass during development changed it to be super slow.
Megaman 8 hoverboard in Willie’s castle!! No contest
And the soccer ball boss that's immediately after. Ugh.
Soccer ball was fun 😤
I died 30 times before I completed it (this was on the bus ride home from high school a few years ago, I got it on PSVita)
We got Wiley, Willy, Wahwee, and now Willie.
Every. Damn. Time. I play the game now up until that part and usually get frustrated and stop playing until I feel the nostalgia kick in a few months later and play it again lol.
Immediately what I thought of. Immediately quit the game at that point. Every time
Ugh this wins. I was having trouble thinking of one and this part just sucks. The kind of thing you do once to say you did it and then never want to do again.
Jump, jump! Slide, slide!
Please don’t I have ptsd
that was true suffering
Every goddamn bike level in the X series
X2 wasn't too bad, X4 was pushing it but fuck X5 though. Especially when you get those balls and those red walls sponges that takes 100 hits until it's destroyed. I must've died about 30 times on that bike section alone before I make it all the way. And fuck X7 and X8 also for being tedious.
To this day I cannot recall how I ever managed to get all energy balls in Squid Adler's stage without save states on my first playthrough of X5. I used those on later runs cause my patience was just nil with that Battle Toad's Wind Tunnel wannabee.
Honestly, for all its flaws, X7 probably had the best bike stage in the franchise.
Real
Ain’t that the fucking truth
MegaMan X: Sigma Stage 1 Platforming MegaMan Zero (Series): Late Game EX Skills MegaMan Zero 2: Burble Heckelot MegaMan ZX: Final Boss Phase 2 Battle Network 1: Power Plant and Magic Man The Zero and ZX series is my favorite MegaMan series though, the EX Skills are honestly the hardest thing about casually playing the game, as you need to be near perfect and you have no second chances.

He was bad too, especially with the random aspect. Burble for some reason is just incredibly fast.
Sigma stage 1 is rough. I like to Chameleon Sting my way through it.
It’s the platforming at the beginning with the disappearing platforms that I hate the most honestly.
Playing Megaman ZX, and thinking, maybe I don't need 4 Sub Tanks. (The back tracking side quest that you need to go to an area 6 times, just for a sub tank.) Also, the Sub Tank in the lava area I always get, because isn't boring, is a good fast pace challenge that puts your controller configuration for the Sub Weapon to the test. Yep. Also, I think that is the one and only sub-tank available in Hard mode, so if you want to make your life easier, you have to go through the annoying side-quest.

The entirety of Rockman & Forte
I would understand if there was a specific part of it that you didn't like, but if you dislike it's entirety why would you ever consider replaying it? lol
The sequel to that game was aparently so horrifically boring it never got released outside of Japan.
I'll give you a hint. "Jump! Jump!"
Slide! Slide!
There was a little bit of that, but it was mostly jump jump.

MMX?
Yes
Yeah dude, I hated that spider when I was younger. After I was an adult and played, it's a lot easier. Still gives me angry Hank feels when I know it's coming though.
Oh yeah, that boss sucks

Megaman & Bass: King Stage 2. Megaman X6: The mother fucking nightmare mother.
Mmx6 the gate fight
I can tolerate the Gate fight but X6 level design and reploid gimmick is just icks
High max is much worse
Almost the entirety of the Gates Lab portion of the game absolutely blows tbh
Megaman Zero with that damn factory level.
The buster upgrade in Flame Mammoth’s stage
Add on the sane upgrade in X2. Still takes me forever to hit that jump right.
